Books that give you abilities, skills, and animations while in inventory
Nicko2580 replied to THE_T_V1RUS's topic in Suggestions
I think, if books and skills are to be implemented in some form, that for things like hunting it should just increase the amount of meat/hide/bone whatever you successfully harvest. So in essence, you can perform every skill at a basic level and reading a book just gives you a permanent buff to your chances of success. So you can still do an IV, but the chances of giving someone an infection would be slightly less if you'd read a medical book. I wouldn't like to see any skill stuff implemented, but if it has to be that's how I'd see it not completely ruining the core feel of the game. -
Why the dayz formula will ultimately fail

I can agree with this. Even in a fully populated server I pretty much had Dubky and Novoselky to myself and they're only a click away from Cherno. Found plenty of good loot (including military boots and a couple of ballistic helmets). Head further inland and you'll find even more. -
Persistent storage is in the works. Read some of the upcoming features threads.

It's in the works. The whole crafting system is in the works. You should read a few of the stickied threads and use the search feature before posting this type of thing.
-
You should, because you don't know what you're on about.
-
Let's keep all these sort of systems out of the game. All of this should be player generated, not forced on us by arbitrary systems. If someone acts as a hero, the community will label them such and vice versa with bandit.

It is Skyrim where you cannot see the pins, not Oblivion. Oblivion you have to bounce the pins into the right position. Skyrim you have to rotate the lockpick to the correct position.
-
I think you mean Skyrim style... And no, it's not really that hard. I never bother with lock picks in Skyrim because I can pick any level lock from the start of the game without breaking a pick if I concentrate. There's a trick to it that makes it very simple. Oblivion is even simpler. I literally can pick every lock in the game with the first lock pick you find in that game.

Yes I totally agree - but as I said earlier I think that the straps should reflect the quality of material used. For example a strap made out of rags would start out as pristine but quickly degrade to ruined after a few hours of use etc. That way, you could craft one in an emergency but upgrade your straps as you hunt/find better materials. And yeah, guns should have a chance of spawning with all sorts of different quality straps. Rifles on farms might spawn with a good leather strap... Military might have high quality nylon etc.

You can already get a chest holster. I found one.

Nice story. Even if he wasn't going to shoot you (you shot first) he still should have responded. Acting the way he did is asking for a bullet. Hope to see you out there sometime when I'm in trouble Doc.

Yeah it'd be a bit weird spawning as the only player on the server and having no zombies in a city. I'd rather there be a static amount with large numbers in areas you'd expect them to be such as cities and towns and less out in the country side. They need to be able to walk around though, rather than just standing still like they do now.

This is a problem that, regretfully, there is nothing anyone can do about. No matter what the devs do, they can't control how the gamma is set. They can remove the setting from the game altogether and make everyone use the same setting and people can still change it outside the game. I refuse to up mine at night and stick with my flashlight, even if that puts me at a disadvantage. It's just the way I like to play. Some people are sooks and have to have night vision or whatever advantage they can take outside the game itself.

The less indicators and GUI interrupting the game, the better. The messages down the bottom are good enough. It could just say, "Argh, I think I've broken my leg." or something. But nothing more than that.

I don't want any electronics in the game that don't rely on battieries - or at the very minimum some exceptionally rare devices. What use would a laptop be anyway? No internet. The GPS, walkie-talkies, radio transmitters and other such devices are okay as long as they're battery powered and require replacements. iPods and stuff - no please. Just put music on in the background if you want to listen to it. Vending machines - as someone said above, just smash it. The water thing - yes. I think you should be required to drink fairly regularly, especially if you're travelling long distances and the faster you move the more your hydration and energy levels should fall. Alcohol? Sure why not? I've also heard the devs mention cigarettes, which I'd really like to see in game. Hostile animals and seasons and stuff - yes to all and I think it's already in development.

Not sure why a shot to the head should ruin loot in any other area of the body regardless of what you use? Otherwise it all looks pretty good to me.

I would really like it if there were not 'skills' or 'levels' or 'abilities' added to this game. That would ruin pretty much everything for me. Why would I need a book to learn how to tackle someone or improve my shooting 'skill'? Needing a manual to repair complex equipment isn't a bad idea at all though. Same for learning more complex first aid. Administering an IV for example isn't as simple as sticking a needle in someones arm, neither is drawing blood. But really, I would prefer it if skills and things did not come to Day Z. I get enough of that with other games, Day Z is refreshing precisely because it doesn't have all that stuff. -
I'm all for more cosmetic additions to Chernarus. The cities and the towns feel a bit devoid at the moment... No corpses, no skeletons, no signs that they've ever really been inhabited. I think this will slowly change as the game progresses, but yeah, any cosmetic additions and little human touches and surprises are welcome.

I think things like this should be left to the players to organise on a server basis. Eventually things like currencies are going to develop in this game (ammo, food etc) especially when the zombies are harder and the loot is rarer and people can build communities and bases and such. Leave it up to the players to organise - don't put systems for this type of thing into the game. I think it will ruin the atmosphere somewhat.
-
Vines was just an example. Like I said it could nearly be anything and depending on the material you used would determine the quality. Crappy straps made of rags should deteriorate on their own with use. Good straps made of leather or a proper military strap should last pretty much forever etc.

I don't like the term casual, so lets drop that. :p I wouldn't mind minigames provided that they: Were realistic and fit with the atmosphere of Day Z.Were not easy.Did not behave like Elder Scrolls lockpicking (I can pick every chest in Oblivion and Skyrim without ever breaking a pick)I would like to see minigames for crafting that relied on skill to create items of better quality. But again, I'd only like to see this if and only if it can be done without being gimmicky and easy to cheat. Very easy to learn extremely hard to master must be the motto of any minigames. And finally, no pausing or anything while you're doing a minigame. If you're in the middle of picking a lock or whatever and someone walks up behind you, bad luck.

I don't think the animations should cancel. If you've got a rifle slung across your back, you can't make it instantly appear in your hands no matter how much you wish you could. You need to drop what you're doing (yes I agree you should be able to cancel eating/drinking and the item should drop at your feet but it should not be instant), unsling your weapon and aim. I don't want that to change personally. I could live with a setting that allowed you to unsling and point the weapon by default, instead of having it pointed at the ground. That would be okay, but I think the animations and the time it takes to draw your weapon all need to stay.
-
I think as the game development progresses and more items are added, it will get easier to find a very weak melee weapon at the beginning of the game. I personally love starting off with just a torch. I don't see why I can't bean zombies in the head with it though... gotta be better than fists.
-
Yeah you could use rope. Anything. But why limit it to just rope? I am really hoping for a large and complex crafting system. That's what survival is about, improvising with what you have. It's a strap, you could make it out of a lot of things.

So what you're telling me is that you're basically a butthurt idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about? What game development experience do you have? People aren't allowed to be proud of their creations? Why don't you go and play something else if Day Z is so utterly, utterly terrible. No one here is going to miss you. Suuure you are...
