I do want cars, motorbikes etc but I think they must have fuel and require regular maintenance. Even if it's just like 5 separate parts that can break and all you have to do is get a new part and press F on the car to fix it, that would do for me. If they don't then I don't want them. No infinite fuel. Same for horses. If you don't have to feed and water them (although granted they'll mostly take care of feeding themselves if left on grass) then they shouldn't be in the game. You also shouldn't be able to right them at full gallop indefinitely. You should be able to ride them to death if you try that (sort of similar to how I resent the fact that you can run at full sprint across the entire map... can't wait for that to end.)

I agree but I think a compromise needs to be reached because plenty of people are just going to up the gamma regardless. If, on a fairly clear night, it's quite bright outside and you only really need to use your light inside or under the forest canopy, it might encourage a few people not to mess with their gamma settings. I'm with you though, I love it being pitch black and being forced to walk in the dark and only use my flashlight when I have to (in case someone spots me). I looted Elektro using this method. Only switching my light on inside buildings and trying to keep it away from windows so I wouldn't be seen.

2 Ways To Make Bloodbags Useful/Increase Teamwork
Nicko2580 replied to [email protected]'s topic in Suggestions
Are the blood test kits single use? If so then just make them reusable and spawn in hospitals fairly regularly. It's not like they're a game winning item, so having a few of them laying around won't matter as much. You can make IV/Blood bags less common to compensate. I've found a crazy amount of full medkits in my travels and I've only been playing a few days. -
Ha, that's awesome. Have to watch out for cutting yourself though. Could do some serious damage with that method.

What, in your opinion, is the most important item in the game?
Nicko2580 replied to Elidor's topic in General Discussion
Food & Water. If you don't find some you're dead within 30 minutes of starting no matter what you do. -
What is the purpose of the carry handle? Aesthetic only?
-
I don't think we're going to get digging or tree building. They're good ideas, but I am not sure they'll be supported by the game engine itself. I think we'll be limited to building basic structures and fortifying existing ones. Sleeping is also off the cards I think. That's simulated already by logging out of the server.

Hardcore: Sawed-off shotty to the chest kills guy who shot my brother
Nicko2580 replied to consortiumczar's topic in Gallery
So the guy tells you he's going to move on and leave you alone and you both hunt him down and kill him? Dog act. You don't deserve Betsy. She's too good for a bandit like you. -
No one can stop hacking in any game. Period. That'd be like saying you could write an uncrackable program. Mitigation is the only thing you can do. Hell no. Played BF4 recently? If it's beyond ridiculous how come there's plenty of people that haven't seen hacks, myself included? The OP even says he's got 300 hours up and only seen one or two... Hardly ridiculous.
-
Doubt it. It's not YouTube's responsibility to be the hack-police for video games. There's far worse content on there that they do nothing about. As to the OP it COULD have been a lucky shot. If he's seen you running into the bush he could have fired at roughly where your head would have been and got lucky - it's a shot I'd probably take. But that being said it still sounds pretty suss.

For the drawing - no. It will just be penises every-fucking-where. For the diary yes, definitely. But I don't think that everyone should automatically get one. I think you should need to find at least a pen first, even if it automatically records events after that. And I don't think it should be mandatory. You didn't put that option in your poll so I didn't vote.

Server Hosting Without Paying Or Singleplayer/Lan
Nicko2580 replied to rayman672's topic in Suggestions
I think Dean actually said that without loot or players they could have upwards of 4000 zombies at once. I think around 1000 - 2000 is what they're aiming for once everything is optimised. -
Sawn-off shotgun stashed in my backpack is my sidearm of choice. ;) But that being said I haven't found a pistol yet. I did find a chest holster, so when I do find one I'll have two sidearms. :P I like the idea of the FNX. My shotgun packs enough close range stopping power to compensate for not having the magnum (plus shotty ammo seems to be pretty common), and the larger clip size of the FNX swings it for me.

Does feeling bad about killing players in DayZ make me a pussy or a morally sound individual?
Nicko2580 replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I don't get why everyone assumes if you're wearing a helmet or decked in military gear you must be a bandit. I just don't get it. Why would I sacrifice my own safety FROM bandits, by not wearing the best protection available? Masks and stuff, sure, that looks a bit bandity, but a guy just running around in military kit with a ballistic helmet on? C'mon, he could be anyone. He could be a medic! (We need a lootable red cross armband. :p ) -
Server Hosting Without Paying Or Singleplayer/Lan
Nicko2580 replied to rayman672's topic in Suggestions
I don't think it's appropriate for this game. There are tons of single player survival/horror games out there. State of Decay is a great one if single player zombie stomping is your thing. LAN would be good, which I suppose would function as a single player mode because you could just log on to your LAN server without any other players. But I don't think you should be able to bring that character over to a public internet server. I think that an option for paying server customers to limit the amount of players on a server to say, 5, is about the best they should consider implementing. -

Nicko2580 replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
It's a game. I don't think any game reflects on your morality as a person. I try not to be an asshole in DayZ but that's because I think player interactions beyond KoS are the best and most fun part of the game. However, I beat the fuck out of hookers with a baseball bat in GTA and push grandmas into oncoming traffic for laughs. It's just a game. Do what is most fun for you. -
You're missing the point. Even if they were to lock gamma in the game, there are still many other sources of gamma outside the game to adjust to get the same results. It would be pointless for them to lock the gamma in the game, because I can still adjust it on my monitor, TV or whatever else I play it on. I can also download 3rd party programs to give my direct control of my gamma at all times. So having the gamma locked is redundant and a bit pointless. After that initial adjustment and locking, I can still adjust it via other means anyway. It simply won't work. It's a problem that the developers cannot solve. If people want to up the gamma because they're too lazy to use the flashlight or NVG's that's what they'll do. Anyone who plays without their gamma turned up will have to accept the disadvantage and play far more cautiously at night (which is what I do). I think the best solution is to actually greatly increase the amount of light that the stars/moon provide. That way, when people mess with their gamma inside buildings it would look fine, but as soon as they step outside it would look as shit as high gamma during the day.

Books that give you abilities, skills, and animations while in inventory
Nicko2580 replied to THE_T_V1RUS's topic in Suggestions
I don't either, trust me. I don't want this to become the Frostfall mod from Skyrim, with guns. -
Poor choice of words! :p Kill with a single swing? Yeah that's a bit harder. Incapacitate? Bloody easy with a heavy axe like the splitter or fireaxe. One good blow to the back or side of the head and you will be out like a light. Turn the blade sideways and hit them with the flat and it will work even better.
-
I'm just not sure it would be necessary. What would be better is scaling the respawn rates of zombies based on how many players are on the server. So if a small city has 50-100 zeds in it that spawn every 30 minutes, with a full load they now respawn every 20 minutes or something...?
-
I'd be down with that. Not sure how complex the devs are thinking of making crafting, but as far as I am concerned, the more complexity and interactions the better. Could start with something as simple as a piece of flint, a stick and some duct tape/rope to make a crude axe etc.
-
Why are we pandering to these type of players? The onus is on them to discover the mechanics of the game, either through playing or through reading up beforehand. We don't need to babysit people like every other damn game released lately.
-
Oh sure, if you meant it as just cosmetic inclusions in the game... like laptops laying around in peoples houses that you can't interact with or can maybe only cannibalise for parts for other electronics, then sure I have no problem with that.
-
According to lore all survivors are immune to the virus, so they would not come back as zombies because they can't get infected. Plus the zombies are not undead, they're infected living people. Fairly certain the devs have already said this isn't going to happen.

Books that give you abilities, skills, and animations while in inventory
Nicko2580 replied to THE_T_V1RUS's topic in Suggestions
I think, if books and skills are to be implemented in some form, that for things like hunting it should just increase the amount of meat/hide/bone whatever you successfully harvest. So in essence, you can perform every skill at a basic level and reading a book just gives you a permanent buff to your chances of success. So you can still do an IV, but the chances of giving someone an infection would be slightly less if you'd read a medical book. I wouldn't like to see any skill stuff implemented, but if it has to be that's how I'd see it not completely ruining the core feel of the game.
