  1. Cities I think you've got more chance of finding a friendly, especially if you're more inland. Cherno/Elektro are definite hotspots on populated servers. I tend to think of the major coastal cities as endgame areas to come when I'm geared up, since that's where a lot of players seem to head. But even the smaller cities closer to them like Dubky and Novoselky I think you'll find the odd friendly.

    Start with knife

Most houses have already been looted (lore wise) so finding a knife in that situation might be harder than you think. I don't think you should start with anything personally. The flashlight I suppose is a necessity if you start on at night, but I usually just ditch it and keep the battery.

    Information Vs. Immersion

Yeah I know I just thought I'd add it because it relates to the topic, even indirectly. :)
  4. Ah well, heat of the moment and all that. Airstrips are generally considered kill zones anyway so it seems. I think you'd be pretty lucky to run into anyone friendly out there. I am a friendly and I'll help anyone out if they don't shoot first, but even I keep my weapon up and ready when heading into military bases/airfields.
  5. He shot first. That instantly absolves you of all responsibility for the situation in my opinion. Self defence.

The concept of killing has changed in SA

People equate survival with killing everything in sight. That's what the biggest problem is. It's actually the opposite and would result in your eventual death in a real apocalypse style situation. You'll last longer with friends and helpers every time. No body wants to work together because that means taking a chance and developing trust and that's genuinely hard. People like things to be easy, so a bullet does the job better than a few words.
  7. I don't think this is true at all. Certainly not of a majority. It's not hard to find stories of entire communities pulling together after a disaster with only a few instances of anti-human behaviour. Look at Haiti after the earthquake there - yes, there was trouble. There was looting, violence and children being kidnapped and sold into slavery but this was all done by minority criminal groups who were already doing this type of shit anyway and a minority of others. Looting a supermarket in a disaster to feed your family is also not really comparable to looting electronic stores or jewellery stores etc. No reasonable person is going to have an issue with people grabbing some food and no reasonable person is going to be worried about looting sellable things when they've got a family and friends to take care of. The average person on the street either moved to a shelter area and attempted to survive or pitched in and helped out to rescue survivors, clear rubble and begin rebuilding. So many human stories came out of that disaster and people from all over the world rushed over there to help. The government response both inside and outside the country was abysmal, but that's pretty much governments for you. I think this is true of almost every major disaster you care to name. In my country we often get hit by massive tropical storms which devastate towns and cities. The community effort and the genuine, heartfelt humanity that shines in these situations far outstrips the minority that use a disaster for their own personal profit.

States should display icons, not text/annoying sounds

Well, that's why I said 'very likely' you're bleeding. Unless you're kitted out with body armour I can't see any real situation where you take a serious wound from a bullet and wouldn't be bleeding so maybe that needs to be addressed. As for pain, I think it's a good thing that people discover you because of the noises you make and correct me if I am wrong but pain also is shown by excessive screen shaking, making aiming very difficult. I'd be happy to remove the moaning and leave the shaking for pain, but again I haven't got any issue with people discovering me due to that effect. If you're hurt badly enough to be in pain you should be trying to move away from a combat situation anyway to heal up and if you're in the 'heat of combat' the last thing you're worried about is bandaging/taking pain meds unless you can get yourself to a spot where you're going to be safe for a few moments. If someone is close enough to hear you bandaging up, you're likely dead. This is a good point but easily solved by just checking yourself over in the inventory. Since you can't sit down and look over your whole body in a game this is a decent approximation. As for always knowing you're bleeding, that's not true. Plenty of times I cut myself, or scrape my leg or whatever and don't realise I'm bleeding until someone tells me I have blood on me, especially if I happen to be working at the time. A cut or scrape isn't always accompanied by enough pain to let you know you may have broken the skin. And many times I've told other people, "Hey man, you're bleeding there." and they may not have realised. Granted that if the injury is serious enough you're going to know about it, but again getting shot or hit with an axe is going to be your first clue that you're probably in need of medical attention. Most of the current status indicators in the game are entirely obvious without the need for the text updates or the icons in the inventory. The only ones which aren't are hunger and thirst. Even sickness as it currently stands is obvious - if you've eaten something bad or over eaten/drunk too much you're very likely to be sick. I might take your advice Infiltrator and start my own thread. Once again if the devs do go with icons and an overlay, I do hope it's as polished as yours.

That you're wet? I don't think so. If you're assessing things like wet/bleeding/sick/hungry in combat you're doing something wrong. All of that can be left until after the few minutes it takes for combat to resolve in this game. Besides, anything combat related you're going to know about immediately anyway. Get shot? Very likely you're bleeding at minimum. Got a broken leg? You can't stand. In shock? Your vision lets you know. In pain? You have the shakes bad. These are already in the game and do a fine job of letting you know what's happening without breaking immersion and most of them don't have those sounds you don't like related to them (except pain I think). Again, I don't want to sound like I'm being rude but to me this all just sounds like hand holding. Why can't you take the three seconds it takes to look over your body to assess whether you're wet or bleeding? If you run through a creek, obviously your boots/pants are going to be wet. If you're sitting in the rain for hours, obviously you've got a good chance of getting sick. I really don't understand how I need an icon to tell me something that's so obvious.

    Finding a stashed backpack

So last night when scouting out an airfield, I found a backpack that looked like it had been stashed by a player. Full of gear, laying in long grass in the trees just inside the airfield wall. Stocked with a ballistic helmet, food, water, can opener, ammo etc. Is this definitely a pack someone has left there while heading off to loot? Or do packs stay after someone's been shot? I waited around for a good 20 minutes to see if someone was gonna come back for it (was going to try and have a friendly interaction, seeing as I didn't touch any of their gear but could easily have taken all of it) but no show and I ended up moving along.

    Finding a stashed backpack

It's on the cards for me if/when I really start playing this game seriously, but at the moment I can't be arsed running all the way back from the coast if I do happen to get shot. I'd rather just start again from scratch. Too much exploring of the rest of Chernarus to do. :p

    AKM or the AK-47?

AK-47. The game is set in Russia. It's the most iconic Russian weapon and also the most iconic weapon in existence. It's the most widely known assault rifle on planet earth. I think it's a bit weird that it wasn't the first rifle they put in the game, personally. It doesn't make sense that AK's are not in the game as it stands. "Of all the weapons in the vast soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947. More commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It'll shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assault_rifles

I really don't think there needs to be an indicator for rain. Or for when you get wet. Look down at yourself. If you have water dripping off you, you're wet (fairly easy animation to just have some drips coming off you as a status indicator). If it's raining it's going to be pretty obvious anyway. Have an indicator upon inspecting clothing, "This is a worn tattered red shirt. It is damp. I need to dry it or I might get sick."

    Compass Lid Closing

Mine went from worn to ruined with one hit from a zombie while stashed in my pack. Not sure if that's supposed to happen or not. My new one is Pristine and hasn't degraded at all even though I use it constantly and I don't think I've ever closed the lid.
  15. I really hope that server type permadeath is never implemented.. I don't have a huge amount of servers to choose from in my region in the first place... I'd be unable to play within a few weeks. :p :(

    Holy Ground

Eventually, when base building and more persistent things are added to this game, players will create their own safe zones, with people guarding for bandits etc. Let's not have any magical ones yeah?

    Psychological Effects

Still, all of these aside from hallucinations are better ideas than in the other thread. They're not really psychological though, lol. Blurred vision, lethargy and illness are all physiological effects caused by lack of food/water and I hope to see them implemented in some form. I don't think hallucinations are really needed though. I believe the devs will tweak water/food consumption at some point. It's far too easy to get hydrated and energized and stay like that forever at the moment, even after sprinting flat out for 100kms. That will change eventually.

    Rust

I'm down for this. You can already find the Weapon Cleaning Kits and I think they should be reuseable for cleaning your weapon all the time, rather than just used to upgrade the condition. Weapon Cleaning Kit = removes and protects from rust. Cleans barrel to restore accuracy after you've put a bunch of rounds through. General maintenance. Kit works forever. Weapon Upgrade/Repair Kit = Upgrade the status from whatever it is to the next level (excluding Pristine). Single use.

Death stories & what you lost?

Got capped at an airfield last night. I lost: My SKS (Pristine) My Sawed-Off (Pristine) 2x FNX's and mags and ammo enough for both. 1x Magnum (no ammo) Mostly military clothing including a Ballistic helmet that was one of the first things I found while scavenging the coast. Food & Two full pristine canteens. Medical supplies including saline, antibiotics, charcoal tabs and water tabs and a defib. A chest holster (don't think I'll see one of them again for a while :( ) M4 accessories & full double clips that I was hoping to trade along with one of the FNX's and the Magnum.
