Any skill system will be abused to get the best build. It's that simple. DayZ does not need skills or to become another generic MMO.
-
Easy to fix - When the respawn happens have it effect a whole town or zone on the map. Have it reset the whole town; doors close, zombies and loot respawn. Once one house has been looted or a few zombies killed, it could just start a 2 hour timer on that area of the map and reset once the timer runs out regardless of how much has been looted. Make the timer pause if there are players within a certain distance of the town, so if Cherno has been looted and there are still players hanging around you don't magically see all the doors close and the zombies respawn. It may reduce realism slightly, but it's essentially the same as a server restart only on local scales.

Approximate percentage of female DayZ players
Nicko2580 replied to elLoCo's topic in General Discussion
It worries me that people are so obsessed with how many gurlz play DayZ. This is the only reason I am leaning towards being against nudity in the game - you just know that every single female toon (whether a girl is controlling it or not) will be held up and forced to strip at every opportunity. It will make playing a female avatar pretty much impossible.- 101 replies

Any skill system will be abused to get the 'best' combination of skills. It's that simple. Anytime you put skills into a game there is always a statistical best way to play. DayZ should not take that path.

implement nudity/scat/piss. : THE DISCUSSION
Nicko2580 replied to gangrenetvp's topic in Suggestions
I don't particularly care about this discussion or whether any of this is implemented but I did want to point out that being offended at something is entirely your own choice. As the legendary Stephen Fry put it: So if nudity, scat and urination offend you I have to ask... well, so fucking what? -
It's definitely implemented. Last time I got sniped by someone, they broke my legs first and put a second bullet in me while I was trying to crawl to cover. If it works for the Mosin I can't see why it wouldn't work for other weapons?
-
Yeah sure, it's outside the game itself so it doesn't bother me. As long as nothing pops up while I'm playing (achievements or any of that crap) then any of this type of thing is cool.
-
Yeah I thought about a few things like that. For simplicities sake the current energised/hydrated icons and their progressive colour changes are fine for me, I'm just hoping we don't see too much more of that type of thing.

This. On a fully populated server I managed to find a Pristine Mosin and PU Scope, ammo, food, firefighters axe and better clothing all at small villages not even that far inland.
-
I would support this completely. It sounds like a fantastic solution to take away the advantage that 3pp gives, while still letting people view their characters and run around in 3pp. While there are other considerations than just whether or not you can see another player/zombie, this does eliminate a large portion of the problem.

I've now found every weapon in the game and I have to say that the Mosin is now my favoured weapon. I was running the SKS, but I like bolt action rifles. I also don't mind the Blaze. Randomly, as a fresh spawn I found a Pristine PU scope sitting on the table in a civvy house and then a Mosin in the piano house just down the road all on a high pop server. The advantages of not sticking to the coast! As for other weapons I keep a sawed-off in my pack as a holdout and if I can find another chest holster like my last character, then I'll also keep a sidearm there. Without the chest holster though, I'll stick to my sawed-off over a pistol. At the intended ranges (within 20m) I think the Sawed-off will outperform a pistol 9/10 times.

Cheers. I'm going to upgrade my mobo soon anyway. Current one can only socket AMD processors. Going to change to an i5-4670k most likely.

Someone 'Gollumed' me last night. I spawned near a factory on the east coast (I think). Saw another player running around and he wandered over and we were chatting a bit, trying to figure out whether we were gonna stick together or what. Next minute he goes "Holy shit look out!" and all I here is THWACK - You are unconscious. Then dead set, Gollum's voice comes over the comms - "HISSSSSSS... MINE! GET AWAY FROM US! IT'S MINE!" me and the guy I was talking to were laughing so hard I thought I was going to choke. This guy sounded exactly like him, I swear. So I lay there unconscious for a few seconds while he's hissing and spitting and then I'm like, "Okay, well I'm going to respawn." and all I hear is, "NOOOO! Don't leave us precious! Don't go!" goddammit I nearly pissed myself laughing. So wish I had of had Shadowplay turned on. If you're going to kill fresh spawns... at least make it hilarious. :P

Heaps of things to do for an imaginative player: Lone Wolf it up to the mountains and find a patch that you like, settle down and protect it. Head down to the coast and PvP in the cities. Bodyguard fresh spawns from bandits. Become a bandit. Load up on medical supplies and become a travelling doctor. Find a pen and paper and leave cryptic notes all around Chernarus in places players will find them.

Nice post man, I pretty much agree with all of that and good ways to model hunger and thirst in there. The thing I have problems with is how you tell you've eaten or drunk enough without icons? That's the main part I have trouble with when it comes to nourishment. As for perspective, I intentionally didn't mention it here. I am completely against 3pp but that's a complete discussion in itself and requires it's own thread (and I believe there's already a heap of them).
-
I think, before anyone answers the question, you need to put forward a compelling argument as to why KoS needs to be deterred in the first place. Threads like this one start off with the assumption that KoS is something that needs to be deterred or controlled in some way, but never actually put forward the reasons why this is the case. Not having a go at you or accusing you of being anti-KoS I just think that if you expect reasonable answers then you have to make that compelling argument first.

See it's funny because I have a better processor and more RAM at a higher clock speed than you and I never get above about 30, same GPU. I'm going to say it's because my processor is AMD and yours is Intel - that's about the only real difference I can pick and it seems like people who have Intel processors are getting slightly higher FPS.
-
Then you're going to have to either find a player to help you, or find a way to suicide. Zombies are a good option. If you can see buildings or anything crawl towards them. If you can find a ladder I believe you can still climb them with a broken leg and then you can throw yourself off a roof.
-
I think it will be hard for you, for sure. I don't think people pay as much attention to the text as they do to someone talking. As for the ass shooting you - he was just an ass... probably just a kid.
-
If you could take it right apart then yeah it would be cool. Otherwise no. I keep a sawn-off in my pack as a holdout, which I feel is reasonable. If someone tries to rob me and makes the mistake of turning away even for a second after I've put down my primary, they're getting an ass full of buckshot. A fully functioning M4 would be a little much imo. Mary Poppins backpack.

30 in the wilds, 20 in cities. I can deal with it but I do hope they sort it out a bit better soon. Was playing Battlefield 4 last night and the smoothness of 60+ FPS made me realise how annoying it does get sometimes when playing DayZ.

Haven't noticed and I carried the SKS for ages. Granted that I never had the 10 round clips, just loose ammo. I didn't even know that it showed up in the context menu - I assume that's only the speed clips? The solution would be to just limit reloading to the inventory screen as it is with everything else. I don't think it's unrealistic to have to open the menu to get your clip if it's in the pocket of your pants or whatever. It takes about a second and a half for me to open, drag rounds onto my (shiny new) mosin and click load.
-
lol. I don't have an issue with it being in the game, but I don't think it's really that necessary.

Too much food. I wan't to feel the NEED to eat rotten food, or die of starvation.
Nicko2580 replied to WolfgangErikson's topic in General Discussion
Yep definitely. I believe temperature is going to play a fairly large role in survival shortly, along with the weather changes. I'm sure I read that somewhere.
