Need Fixing: Axe swinging, Filling Canteens, Disappearing loot
Ultra7 posted a topic in General Discussion
1) Axe swinging: this animation needs fixing. At the moment it looks like a 2 year old girl trying to swing an axe for the first time (a left-handed, short jabbing motion). A right-handed, full-on baseball bat type of swing is much needed. 2) Filling canteens: This is a nightmare at the moment (unless Im missing something?). Once equipped into your hand, you get only one chance to bring up the 'Fill bottle' option. Missing this (which is infinitely easier than it sounds) means you are only left with the "Drink water" option. Switching to another item and then back again gives you anther chance. Or you can fill plastic water-bottles and transfer the contents to canteens (still a pain in the ass though). 3) Disappearing Dropped items: I was in the 'bar building' and needed to shuffle my inventory to make room for a tin of beans. I moved my ammo box to the left-side of the screen so I could open it and re-organize. The next thing I know my box has vanished. After searching I find it in the counter and eventually have to give it up for lost.. I don't mean to exaggerate; but losing this much ammo and the -rare- ammo box was soul destroying. I was properly gutted (300 rounds is a lot of ammo for a lonewolf newbie like myself). . -this game has given me some incredible, adrenaline-filled, highs (my first firefight... which ended up being an 'Enemy at the Gates' style sniper duel, to name but one), but this was a horrible low.... 4) Water-purification tabs: In their description they state "One per bottle" (correctly). I had a packet of 9 and they disappeared after purifying one canteen. 5) Falling 2 feet (less than a meter) and dying..?!.. -A blue whale with matchstick legs would survive higher falls than I do in this game -please fix.... -keep going DayZ devs. This game is an unpolished gem that has the potential to be an all time great :) -
Really? "No body wants to work together because that means taking a chance and developing trust "... what are we supposed to do? -bring food and weapons to the bambi's and then all go skipping off into the sunset, holding hands and singing lullabies to each other? Perhaps we should be forming large communes and spend our time hunting down the simple to kill and almost harmless NPC zombies?! The simple truth is that the zombie threat isn't large enough to warrant 'team work'. Until the dev's create more content what else do you expect a bunch of kids (who are armed to the teeth) to do? Personally I quite enjoy the game the way it is -admittedly its more "Hunger games" than "Day of the Dead", but Im sure that will change in the future? (giving us the option to play as zombies would create a common enemy, and create an 'Us v Them' element to the game). *EDIT* Sorry, have no idea whats going on with my formatting?

Instead of the dreaded log-out timer how about this: If a player attempts to logout while within a certain distance of a military facility they receive an onscreen message warning them against doing this again (this might extend to police and firestations?). If they logout again from the same location (on a different server) they receive an on-screen message informing them that they have been "Found guilty of looting military installations" and are teleported to some remote corner of the map as a punishment. They will spawn in one of the (wild-west style) "outhouses" found in the game, which will be located on top of one of a series of specially selected hills (in the middle of no-where and devoid of cover, but with forest surrounding the base of the hill). Over time these locations will become known -resulting in the looter becoming the target of waiting snipers... To prevent combat logging, trying to logout while bleeding will prompt a "If you log out now you will be penalized" warning. If they proceed they will face the same fate as the looters... an outhouse in the wilderness and the possibility of waiting snipers... (also: if you try to logout while bleeding you will remain on the server for 30 seconds -an EVE style countdown that leaves you unable to defend yourself, but able to cancel if you want). Teleportation and a long walk may have been suggested elsewhere, but I thought I'd suggest in case they haven't?
-
No, I suggested an on-screen logout timer of 30 seconds *sigh*. Teleporting loggers provides an additional deterrent. Not only are they sitting ducks for 30 seconds, they also have a very long trek ahead of them (if they don't have a compass -they have serious problems). Remember this is primarily to counter looters. Im pretty sure you're just trolling now, but in case you're not, please explain how this "isn't thought through"?
-
Look Einstein, I realize you're struggling to keep up here so I'll explain real simple for you ok?: If you log off from combat (i.e. while bleeding) -you get teleported to the middle of no where. That means a VERY long walk (10 minutes if not more?), also on busy servers you're likely to get taken out by snipers. Perhaps you can argue that the current system is more of a deterrent, if so -please do....
-
Jesus- alright man! -that was just a minor after thought. What about the teleportation idea?!

Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)
Ultra7 replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
I might be wrong, but isn't optimization the final stage of a project like this? -
-I like this idea (Im thinking Bambi games), it worth its own thread?
-
Do they actual prevent/absorb/deflect damage -or are they purely cosmetic? Aslo, if they do: how does the chopper pilots helmet fare compared to the infantry 'lid' -thanks
-
I hear a loud 'static' (white noise) sound when equipping my magnum. Is it just my files or does this need reporting?

This logout system seriously needs to be deleted

Peoples definition of "Works fine" clearly varies. Im still trying to work out why you can server hop in first place? -
I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
Ultra7 replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
-make a rollie (or a joint?) or just play using my mouse and not have the hastle of having to have my left arm extended and using the keyboard constantly -take your pick... -
-How is it being "ultra-lazy"?!! that's as insulting as it is insane. Fact: we have to use pennies and what not to hold down the key as it now. Why not save us the trouble of having to do this?!! (its just NPE madness). Its take hours to run from N.E. spawn to the S.W. of map. Why make us hold down the bloody key the whole time -its just insane. This will prove to be a 'put back on shelf' for a lot of folk once it hits general release... there must be some sane folk on the dev team who can see this?
-
The dev's don't want one. -if you can understand their logic you're a better man then I am (I have to use a dice with scissors finely balanced on top to keep it pressed down) -its just madness
-
-Thanks, I tried looking but could only browse your last 5 posts/threads... unless Im missing something? What I really want to know is if theres much difference between the Motorcycle lid and the ballistic one? I know its shallow, but the motorcycle helmet looks pretty cool with the gasmask poking out through the front of it

*Sigh* Another fanboy. Why are you making excuses for the dev's?!. Not having an autorun key is blatantly ridiculous with a map this big. There's no vehicles yet, so why the hell shouldnt we have one?! I cannot, and will not EVER understand the logic to your thinking. Stop being a sheep and grow some balls. Please devs, for the love of God, give us an autorun key.... For the "its not supposed to have one, its not an arcade game" people: It just to save you having to hold down the key for bloody hours, where's the harm in that for Christsake?!!! -its just a computer game?! -
OK- Ive reported it

Ultra7 replied to dokibaxxi's topic in General Discussion
-no it doesn't. At the very best it is a deterrent: it doesn't solve combat logging, and doesn't stop determined looters (just slows them down). -

I agree: learning to navigate the different servers (day/night/reg/hardcore) is a nightmare when you first start-out, and there's nothing more frustrating than having to stare at an on-screen countdown (I stare at them thinking: "Thats my life ticking away and I'll never get that time back"). But whats the alternative? Until somebody comes up with something better we're stuck with it (logging off to avoid combat/ to spawn new loot is a major problem). The only two solutions that spring to mind are: -no server switching (not sure why you can tbh?) -loot spawns that are specific to the player and followed across server (-But this would be an absolute nightmare to implement in real life, will introduce realism issues, and doesn't solve combat logging). I'd imagine the Dev's are only to happy to listen to any good ideas... -

Critical Unplanned Update of 0.34 to Stable 7 February 2014

Ive clocked up 57 hours since I bought the game last Friday -will be weird not playing in 'slideshow mode'. Hopefully they'll fix the disappearing floor/wall bug next? -
When would you fire first as a friendly? ( scenario and poll)
Ultra7 replied to thelonewarrior's topic in General Discussion
KOS* Ive only come across 7 or 8 people so far. They've all tried killing me, except for one guy who I ambushed and shot in the back. This game is all about PVP for me. Zombies are nothing more than an annoyance, and are easily dealt with with any blunt object (or even fists). The real skill and excitement comes from stalking other humans. This game would be ridiculously easy/boring without it. *note: I would never shoot an unarmed newbie or anybody else who came across as friendly. But in my 42 hours of playing Im yet to come across this (except maybe for that one guy, and when I was searching his body he did have a gun, and if its good enough for London's Metropolitan police, its good enough for me). -
Whats up with all the Battlefield comments? -this game would be ridiculously easy/boring without the PVP element. Anyway, collectable Dogtags are a bad idea. They would promote killing for the sake of killing (camping the beach for easy kills etc). That would be a very bad direction for DayZ to go in. My idea (which got moved to this thread, and I have deleted and replaced with this 'reply') is this: When searching a body it will display "Hours survived" and "Number of kills". Personally I would want my killer to see this info. I want him to know what he has achieved (if that makes sense?). It also adds a layer of narrative that is currently missing. Aesthetically this info could look cool on a Dogtag (again, making them collectable is a very bad idea).
