Most 3pp players will switch to 1pp rather than uninstall the game. If realism and immersion still matter, there is not much choice in which perspective is to be removed, if any. Does 3pp invite the kind of crowd that prefers exploring the code for glitches over searching buildings for loot? Does that mean they are useful to a degree?

What does the 3pp pov help drive?

DayZ isn't a niche game atm. It's a loot & shoot (with "zombies"). Is the current game what made it popular? Or is it the promise of something unique. According to Dean, zombies are infected people that are not dead (yet). Granted, I wouldn't mind suspending disbelief on that issue.

I don't want my character to have emotions for me. If I'm scared, my control over the character will be influenced. Suppose someone just shot your mate. Unless you're a complete psycho, that will affect your (the player) state of being. Isn't that enough?

It exists because someone had a good idea that filled a niche at the right time. The idea proved economically viable when it was still an arma 2 mod. If the effect of the hype is that the devs lose sight of the niche, they can coast on the hype itself for profit but they will have lost the games raison d'etre. It will no longer be DayZ but just another shooter.
