    Loot grinding

"yet never sees anyone" Must. resist. open. door. Oh forget it: A lrs would prolly sort that. "everything you do is apparently geared towards avoiding the only real threat in the game" There is a famous useful book written on the subject by some Chinese fellow you should read. (speaking of pestle and mortar)
  2. I can often see items with the naked eye that "vicinity" can't seem to pick up on unless I put my cursor on it. Would a bigger detection area around the cursor help? Having to be anal about it slows down game play.

    Loot grinding

""safe and boring, go hand in hand."" In what universe is looting nwaf solo, safe. I agree it's less suicidal than what you are suggesting. ""Besides, being a new spawn is when you should care the least about dying, you loose nothing."" I don't like that attitude at all. It is very un-DayZ. Besides, I'm not a fresh spawn. Don't you read?

Coincidentally, that's also the fastest way to get killed. I'd rather loot nwaf solo, thnx.

    Loot grinding

Alright, I guess most if not all have cast their votes by now. Most people seem to agree "grinding" (and by that I mean spending large quantities of time doing repetitive, relatively uninteresting stuff) is necessary. I agree because the game setting requires it. Second most voted on was "fun". While I agree finding items you need is fun and some effort is required to achieve that feeling of accomplishment, I don't think excessive grinding is fun. In third came "What this game is all about" This worries me because i think spending large quantities of time doing repetitive, relatively uninteresting stuff is boring and frustrating. I hope you are all referring to the survival aspect and the necessity to hit town now and again. I can agree to that. Fourth, surprisingly, was "Like a box of chocolates". You clowns. Trailing in 5th and 6th came "a bore" and "way to time consuming". Wanna start a clan?

    Remove disable shadow

Don't twist my words, mate. I said relatively important. I've got time. Shadows are an important aid to camouflage. It also helps with realism / immersion. This is fact. ""people all over the forums screaming "fix loot" / "fix zombie" / "ololol shit gmae!"?"" Obviously preference must be given to the less articulate members of this mature and balanced community.

    Remove disable shadow

""it's not necessarily about having an advantage."" It allows for one and that's enough for me to disable shadow as well. The obvious fix would be to put some effort in this relatively important feature (talking about camouflage) to make it less of a drain so low end computers can run the simplest setting.
  8. I don't want to have to rely on mods to get a finished game with all the trimmings. I would not be satisfied if the final product is a mere platform for modders. I expect the devs to go the full 9 yards. I want them to anticipate obvious mods that are in the spirit of DayZ and leave those that aren't to the modding community. It might be wise to have the community play 1 game instead of 1000's of variations for the first year (or so) after release to reduce splintering. That will also give you more time to develop DayZ ll. If it is possible to give modders a way to test their mods without being open to the public, this proposal would give them more time to refine their mods and perhaps show them to the devs.

    ultra rare katana

I've got 2. 1 decorative, 1 functional. I wouldn't mind seeing some swords, even katanas in DayZ. Comparing a machete to a katana comes imo very close to sacrilege btw.

    Remove disable shadow

    Make it so.
  11. ""It doesn't matter what you can see, only what the physical model of your character can see"" I understand. The physical model of my character could see the item from a distance but not up close. I play 1pp so I can see what my character sees. ""This is a working-as-intended feature."" It is, but it is not working smoothly enough to our liking. A slightly larger detection area around the cursor should fix it, right?
  12. I already knew the item was there because I could see it from a distance. Like you said, 3pp has no issue so that's an easy fix atm., but I would like to see a slightly bigger detection area around the cursor to keep the spirit of the mechanic but not it's current awkwardness. I think this thread would be better suited in suggestions, come to think of it.
  13. I noticed sometimes I get 3 hits with 1 click as if the axe was suddenly set to burst. Other than wanting to say it annoys me, I wondered if it was a feature or a bug.

Now do that 16 times without finding that lrs and tell me that's not boring.

    Loot grinding

Yeah, I don't spend my time on the coast. Too many kids with guns. I died twice so far in DayZ. The first time within a couple hours because I was friending on sight at night. I was in the process of taking out my flashlight to shed some light on the situation when he / she shot me in the head. That cured my curiosity to a degree. The second time I was fully geared and was strolling along the coast to see if any fun was to be had there. I encountered another fully geared player that quickly took cover behind a building while I was saying "" friendly, friendly"". Then I had to turn around to kill a Z and he / she took the opportunity to cross the road. I tried to switch to my rifle while taking cover and that was a mistake. I took 5 bullets in the chest and that was the last time i saw the infamous ""you are dead"" screen. I've been fairly careful and encountered 4 players that I know of since then.

    Loot grinding

""Obsessing on a particular item will turn the game into a 'grindfest'"" Ikr. ""If it helps, rumor had it the devs will be adding binoculars soon."" That does help. I hope it has magnification equal to or better than the lrs. That would double my chances of completing my vision quest.

    Loot grinding

""it's exciting "looking" for items in buildings while fending off zombies and potentially other people"" Even more exciting is finding the item. Not finding the item for a long time is not exciting.

    Loot grinding

""After 100 hours I'd be tired of it also"" Yeah, when scavenging turns into grinding, fun is lost. I think that's all I wanted to say really. Oh yeah, (long range) vision is important to me in DayZ. imo it's no luxury but necessity.

    Loot grinding

""I really have a hard time understanding the problem here."" It's easy. I'm lazy and have limited time. Over 100 hours of looking in the right places for the right scope is to much imo.

Items you refuse to pick up?

masks shoes chest holster head torches defibrillator green bandages helmets sticks rocks rope flahlight gas gas light cooking pot pens paper books duct tape handcuffs keys rasputins disinfectant rotten stuff scopes of quality worse than worn firearms of quality worse than pristine weapon cleaning kits tools other than can opener (but I'm sure that'll change) clothing that isn't at least sort of camo (hats and boots included) melee weapons doing less damage than the one I own magazines / clips smaller than the ones I have backpacks that have fewer inventory slots than the one I'm carrying clothing that has fewer inventory slots than what I'm wearing
  24. As long as they put their efforts in hardcore mode first or hire a second team to adapt it to casual. And then I guess we will see who the real DayZ players are.
