    Play as infected

    This will probably not be a thing for the main game. Reason is on the one hand, that our player characters are immune to the infection that turned the rest of the population into the infected. The infected are not "resurrected undead", meaning both human and infected die from the same wounds. Second, if players were able to control the infected, they would most likely try to help their living friends. Meaning they could just decide to run with their friends, making the entire thing very ridiculous. But if a modder is interested in some form of the idea, feel free to do it. 🙂

    Very sorry to hear you feel that way. But lets just clarify some stuff: Please don't victimise yourself, we don't want to have any personal conflicts here. If gorvi had the impression that you hate the game, it's probably because of your recent comments clearly suggesting that idea. It's sufficient to explain him that you do not. We said that once the engine-development is finished, we would be able to develop and iterate at a much faster pace. Which is true, and you will see that updates in this year will happen way faster than the updates we had between 2016-2018. The mistake on our side was probably not to manage expectations accordingly, to avoid too exaggerative expectations. With the technology changes (which are still not completely done, but we are not using that as an excuse) for major parts behind us, game development still did not become a magic wishing well, nor will it ever. You are right with that, it would be nice to just have all the features and content. But as you mentioned as well, the 1.0 version we released was not up to the expectations of many, even though we included base building and returned the first vehicle. Those introduced new issues, such as the persistence not working and the infamous flying cars. We could discuss now what's more important to all players, the entire persistent gameplay experience or getting fish and throwing rocks. But the team has already made the decision on that. We've explained it countless times, with every update we have to prioritise. And compared with what's in the game right now, the other features are secondary. This again is connected to both technology changes and necessary improvements. Also you are clearly mistaken if you call the inventory and server browser "trivial", as they are the most necessary mechanics for DayZ to access and play the game. The main point you probably want to make is that you finally would like to see all the missing content return to the game. It has taken too long, and calling the December release 1.0 was a disappointment to you. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. Reality is, we will always have to work within certain restrictions (as every developer has to) and it will take time to rework all the missing features and balance the game accordingly, as I already explained above. We understand doubts and frustration caused by this massive delay in the development and the complexity of software development, which is difficult to explain to players. But our work is continuing, and we still intend to deliver.

    The most up-to-date storage files plus two fail-saves (which are used when one segment is corrupted) are stored in the data folder, taken 30 seconds apart. The backups (complete snapshots stored in the backup folder, taken every 30 minutes, frequency can be tweaked manually by you as the server owner) are for manual restoration. To clear the other point, this is not the place for technical support, neither is it troubleshooting. You are currently trying to force technical explanation on PC server files in the Xbox New Player Discussion. Please refer to the right topics in the future.

    Reporting issues is not about proving a point, it's about locating and resolving your problems. You appear to have quite good access to your server data, so the most efficient way would be for you to contact the Feedback Tracker, providing the files causing problems for you (in this case the backups only happening every 30 minutes) and asking for help or a fix from our side. Everything else can cause confusion, resulting in delay, which is not helping anyone.

    Your "vision" is focused on both the availability (or better - scarcity) of food-sources and diseases. The first is split into balancing of the existing mechanics as well as the loot distribution, and the implementation of missing mechanics, such as fishing and snare traps. We are already on our way with the balancing - new mechanics will be implemented when we can give them the priority. So far they are flavour, "just another source of food gathering", while they are without a doubt very atmospheric. Meaning, there are more decisive factors for DayZ gameplay and connected issues, which have to be prioritised at this point. Diseases are also on their way, with Cholera, Salmonella, Kuru and the function of the immune system receiving refinement. More diseases, poisoning options and ways to cure them will follow. "When" you will feel very comfortable in terms of "survival vs nature" again, is difficult to say, it depends not only on development progress, but also your luck or misfortune in the game. But when it comes to the development of the two factors mentioned above, rest assured that we are constantly working on them to move DayZ slowly towards the desired experience.

    Have you verified your game files before playing? And just to confirm, you mean it's not possible to pack a tent that has already been erected? Was the tent put up before the update?

    Dear Survivors! We've just released the PC Stable Update 1.01 on Steam (both game update and server files). This is the first in a series of Platform Updates that we will publish throughout the year, with the focus this time being on stability, fixes, server performance improvements, and the introduction of two new firearms. New firearms With each Platform Update, we're aiming to expand the variety of content available in the game. Our choice for 1.01 were two classic 7.62x39 rifles previously available in the legacy builds: the SK 59/66 and the CR-527, also supported by the re-introduction of the Hunting Scope! SK 59/66 A ten-shot semi-automatic rifle fed from an internal magazine. It is an older model, but still reliable, using 7.62x39mm rounds. Can be equipped with a PU scope and an improvised suppressor. CR-527 A bolt-action hunting rifle, fed from a detachable magazine. It's light-weight and accurate when used at intermediate ranges. Uses 7.62x39mm rounds. Can be equipped with a Hunting Scope and an improvised suppressor. Persistence fixes Undesirable persistence wipes were definitely among the most annoying issues reported in 1.0. With 1.01, we're introducing a system of Persistence Backups that aims meant to prevent problems with saving of the persistence data on the servers. This system will be available to both official and community owned server. We've seen some pretty good results on the Experimental branch so far. In any case, we will still be closely monitoring all incoming reports should any loot, bases, or other persistence data get deleted after server crashes/restarts. Server Performance Optimizations Good server performance is critical to ensure an enjoyable DayZ gameplay experience. In 1.01, our programmers have made some solid progress on that front. Official vanilla servers running at full capacity with 60 concurrent players should no longer be witnessing flying cars and other shenanigans on a regular basis. As far as community/modded servers go, please understand that increased player counts may and other modifications to the server setup have significant impact on the server performance, and problems may occur. We will continue with further optimisations over the upcoming updates. The most curious of you can take a look at the report on this topic by our Lead Programmer, Mirek Maněna. Voice communication improvements The voice chat in 1.01 is using a completely new codec that bumps the overall quality of the Voice over Network sound - especially with a high quality microphone. We've also added a mumbling sound filter for players who try to communicate when their speech is restrained with a rag. New status indicators & damage tweaks As a first step towards balancing the health and damage systems, we've added new icon status indicators that better communicate bleeding damage and the effect of medication (for example, the vitamins will now boost your immune system). We've also made some adjustments to the player damage, with the most visible example being the reintroduction of a bleeding damage penalty when walking barefoot. Furthermore, we removed the chance variable for bleeding damage dealt by bullets. Now, every bullet scratch causes bleeding 100 percent of the time. TrackIR Support TrackIR is a head tracking input device that allows you to use freelook independently from your mouse controls, and 1.01 now fully supports this input method. Popular and proven in Arma, introducing this input method was pretty straightforward for us, so we made that option available already.     What counts for players is having a persistent gameplay experience. If that is ensured by a working backup system with an intended maximum loss of what was done in the last 30 seconds, it is still working. If you encounter issues with persistence not working, we ask you to report to our Feedback Tracker. Locked, as the initial posting is based on uninformed grounds.

    Respan togheter with a friend

    We've had this suggestion multiple times, but it is not something we want to do. DayZ is based on the concept of permadeath, meaning players shouldn't have any control about their respawn location and have to team up as they would do with any random player. Searching for your friend can be an opportunity, as you can meet other players on the way without being enclosed in only "your group".

    First of all thank you for taking the time writing all this. We really appreciate it and will try to reply adequately. Just to quickly debunk the one theory, Steam does not have any authority to force developers to release a game from Early Access. Neither does Microsoft or "the law" (all kinds of gossip around that has been popping up). The decision came from our side, for various reasons, which we have been talking about for the past months. We are aware of complaints about the release decision and what it means for the representation to the outside. It is not only our job (meaning we spend the better part of every day with it), but foremost our dedication and passion in every branch of the dev team to make DayZ the best game it possibly can be. While we try to explain development processes and decisions as well as possible, there's always a line beyond which we cannot talk about topics, or where it becomes difficult to understand why situations are as they are, if you are not necessarily following every development update with previous background knowledge in game modding/development. So we completely understand that there are doubts in the community and that those doubts also reach our most passionate players. I guess every one of us had a kinda different vision of what the DayZ 1.0 would look like. However, regardless of the version number we currently have, and if there are warnings being displayed before starting the game, the team is working on improving the game and providing further updates. This is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new phase, namely post-release development. We are happy to hear that you agree that progress has been made, many are denying this reality while facing their doubts and frustration, as legitimate as those might be. You saw the first results with the Stable release of 1.01 just last week, and more updates will follow throughout the year. Some new bugs may appear, some issues might take a while to get fixed, but we are on a one-way street forward, even if it is a rocky one. We are reading all of your feedback and will act on it, while staying true to our vision of DayZ as a game and platform for content creators. Those are all aspects that did not change with the 1.0 release. Again, thank you (all of you) for your constructive feedback and sharing your doubts with us in a reasonable manner. There are several ways to play DayZ and both the Vanilla and modded versions still have a lot of iteration ahead of them, to unfold their true direction and potential.     Thank you for the details. Can you please confirm that you did not have any mods active and did not play on a modded server when this happened? Mods can have influence on regular weapons/items as well. So far we haven't been able to reproduce the issue with these items on Vanilla settings.

    Some feedback and questions

    Hi and thank you for your feedback/suggestions, I will try to give some details on our stance on those, as most have them have already been discussed internally. 1. Stamina: The issue is caused by modders implementing infinite stamina. Meaning we would have to do major changes to the stamina system to make this work. Currently, this is not a priority, as we still have many features/content to implement for the base game, before being able to provide advanced assistance for better mods. Gradually decreased walking speed is not easily doable with the current animation implementation, as we would require again way more sets of different animations to fit different walking/jogging/sprinting speeds. 2. Nights: This light configs are still being looked into, but I can't give any details on how it will be balanced in the future. It is true, that the night sky and moon should provide a certain amount of additional lighting. 3. Infected: While them breaking down doors might be part of a later implementation, the feeding on dead bodies is more of an optical design decision. We forwarded it to Peter. 4. Food poisoning will return in a certain form eventually. However, an advanced cooking system was not promised so far from our side. Meaning it would be an additional commitment to pursue on top of our already quite extensive backlog of features and content that needs to be brought into the game. So do not expect something like this to be in our focus anytime soon, as much as it fits the setting.

    If I see correctly, KillinZedz runs several mods on their server, also influencing base building. We'll keep an eye on reports on the issue, but as long as we cannot see it on Vanilla servers, we have to take into consideration that it could be an issue caused by a malfunctioning mod. Which clothing are you wearing, which weapon were you using? Are you playing on a modded server? If you don't know, can you give us the IP or server name? We are looking into that one. Do you have any more details on that one? In what situations does it happen? Screenshots/videos would be optimal of course.

    Private servers are still planned, but we haven't announced any specific dates for it yet. Yes, there will be a complete wipe with the 1.0 Update for Xbox.
