Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

Did you even buy the game? And if so, can you try and transfer it to someone that will actually appreciate it? Someone smart, maybe? P-E-R-S-P-E-C-T-I-V-E. Say it with me, kiddos. PERSPECTIVE. If you really think that this interview with Rocket is comparable to the Sim City release, the fool is YOU.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

Dean "Rocket" Hall: I'm still the project lead of DayZ, and there are currently no plans I'm aware of to replace me in that role. -emphasis his What needs to shatter is the perception that I am responsible for everything DayZ related: that is not true. There is a very large team now working on DayZ, and it's the studio that collects the "cash" not me. This is used for hiring more people and investing in the concept. -emphasis mine That money goes to the studio which is used to fund development - as it should be. This is used to hire really skilled and awesome people - it's those people who develop the game and I've been working with those talented people to realize the vision. Saying that my departure from a lead position will not deliver on the promise is directly saying these people do not have the capability to deliver. Say what you want about me, but the team does not deserve such hateful comments. While I appreciate the sentiment, It's rather insulting to them to suggest that without me the whole project would suddenly implode. The community, Bohemia, and myself have plenty of time to make plans for the long term development: but whatever happens I want to be back with my family in 2015. ********************************************************** I really could just go on and on, as these are simply lifted from his reddit feed. If he's blowing smoke up our asses, that means he's not the genius dev you wanted. If he means what he's written, as I believe he probably does, then take him at his word and stop stressing about the game. Jesus H Christ, this really isn't that hard to figure out.

But the masses have already soiled themselves, assembled, and gathered weapons and torches. You can't fight that with your reason and logic. Haven't you ever read Frankenstein?

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

I just don't see what the Eurogamer interview has to do with your desire for the ULTIMATE zombie game, nor do I see much relevance to any of the things I've read here and on the DayZ subreddit. In fact, it's even worse over there. Stuff like that almost makes me ashamed to have gaming as my hobby. I'd chalk it up to kids and teenagers, but I know that adults gamers are often the worst of the bunch. "I have a job, so now I know everything and expect companies to kiss my ass." On the plus side, this really shows you which of us are the dumbest: None of you are getting Christmas cards from me this year.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

Let me summarize this thread for everyone: 1) Dean gives a four hour interview, and Eurogamer picked the juiciest, most controversial thing out of it because JOURNALISM. 2) Everyone goes ape shit and acts like retarded children, throwing the entire concept of THIS IS ALPHA out the window. "He's abandoning us in ten months, so the game will fail!" Bonus points if you've told other people "sorry, but alpha!" in the past. *speculative* 3) Dean walks away from the industry in disgust, spending a year (or more) climbing the majestic peaks and rock faces of Greenland instead of making us more goddamn games. This is why we can't have nice things, people. You guys just shit all over everything.
  6. It's not the nicest attitude, but neither is the latent "you're wrong if you don't own this software." Everyone seems like kind of a dick on this one, except for the well-intending OP.
  7. This is exactly the kind of crap I'm talking about when I say use the banhammer instead of closing "toxic" threads. I couldn't have made up a better example. OP seems like maybe a bit of a shit-stirrer, don't get me wrong, but you're supposed to find a creative and comprehensible way to point that out, not suggest they're a mass murderer in waiting, whether the suggestion is facetious or not.

Why are you against many military items in game?

Not to denigrate the armed forces of the United States, or defend a Hollywood portrayal of anything, but this stereotype is only partially untrue, and is probably partially true of basically any military force. If you look up "soldier" in the dictionary, one of the alt-definitions for the verb form basically says "pretend to work hard while accomplishing very little." Rank and file soldiers have been associated with poor-folk for hundreds of years, and the recent conflict in Iraq lowered recruitment standards in the US until basically last year, bringing in all sorts of fine people. Trust me, there are plenty of stupid, uneducated bloodthirsty rednecks, and dirt-poor desperate people, that joined the military because they didn't have any other options. That's not the norm, but there's enough of them that you can't help but notice it when you're in. In particular, the southern racist a-hole is only ONE of many types of horrible person you'll encounter while serving your country, and far from the worst. Smiling, charming sexual-assault guy is the real one to watch out for, and is impossible to identify through profiling. Basically, what you said is kinda like complaining that Hollywood always shows pirates drinking and whoring. Sure, maybe that's not what they always did in real-life, but you can't exactly say that the reputation was pulled out of thin air.

These M4 kids need to be dealt with.

This kind of nonsense is so prevalent that I forgive you for spouting it. For all but the worst jams, an AR15 variant can be broken down to pin and bolt, and completely restored to firing condition, in a matter of seconds. It's like the LEGO of firearms, and was intended to be that way. The vast, vast majority of misfires are from the bolt not returning entirely to it's proper position, which is instantly fixed by slapping the "forward assist." No surgery required. If the bolt closes on the round and pierces the casing, you have a problem, but that's true of any weapon with a damaged live round stuck in it. They're far from perfect weapons, but judging by the internet, you'd think we'd have won Vietnam if we'd have just used Winchester rifles and old Colt revolvers instead. It's all a bunch of crap.

Summary of dev Q&As from streams

I suspect that wolves in a post-civilization world would have a very different relationship with humans than they do now. Wolves are no danger to humans in most cases, at this point in human history. There's a reason we fear the dark, and it isn't monsters.

    Zombies killing each other?

As long as it isn't too gamey. If I'm barreling along at top speed and hit a zombie, the damage should be based on the car smashing into a sack of meat and bones, not from being punched in a hitbox. I'd rather they underdo than overdo vehicle vulnerability, especially if they inevitably explode like most video game cars.

It would be really awesome if someone could pin this. It answers a lot of questions that people ask.

Invisble player is not a hack.

    And in DayZ, too
  14. First off, there are multiple military lootspawns on the map, that are NOT airfields. I can think of three off the top of my head, and there could be more. I really don't know. One of them is absolutely massive, is hardly ever visited, and has a hospital to boot. You could probably hit the roof with a golfball IRL, if you were in Balota. And you don't even really need to go to those places, unless you use the M4 and want fancy parts and magazines, Even the LRS can be found elsewhere, and isn't even a guarantee in airfields anyway. This is an opportunity for you to either walk away and give the game some more time to develop enough to please you, or change your tactics. Getting angry just leaves you angry.

    Musical instruments?

Yeah, hopefully google will get around to that one soon (lol), but some of the Animated Music Video people may not like the results of that.
  16. McGarnagle

    Musical instruments?

Well, without getting too fancy, a lot of pieces for guitar and harmonica would be public domain at this point, though I'm not sure Western folk music makes much sense in...wherever the hell Chernarus is. That doesn't bug me, but I'm not a roleplayer, at least not in that sense. Simple percussion (drumming the nearest surface with your hands, feet, or a pen) would just be a cool animation to have in general. If instruments ever did make it in (which is a ginormous IF), it would be a simple matter of ensuring that all of the animations and sounds have the same number of beats per minute. Boomboxes and mp3 players (headphones) aren't terrible ideas (aside from the fact that it would usually result in your own death), but I highly doubt they'd really be able to get around all of the copyright issues, even if it's "upload your own." We've all seen how well that does and yet doesn't work for YouTube. They get away with it by making music videos or lyrics videos, and even then all it takes is a request to shut a video down. Companies don't like legal grey areas, and Bohemia's probably no different. Though the song from this video should make it in the game, if possible:

I hope they remember to fix the lootspawn up there, too, since that was what made it well-known in the first place. Heck, they really could just disable it. That building doesn't need another weapon and ammo spawnpoint.

    Client-side Zombies

It's taking everything in my power... No, everything you wrote sounds good to me, and it seems to be the direction the game is already going, based on the placeholder items we have.
  19. McGarnagle

    Musical instruments?

I like the harmonica idea particularly, and the idea of stuff to do to keep your character sane in general. All games need stuff to do aside from the core features. Keeps it fresh for far longer. In Final Fantasy VII (perhaps not the best example), I spent way more time snowboarding and racing chocobos than actually saving the world, and it was all lore-friendly for that game.

    Dear combat loggers...

I never have a problem with combat loggers, but if I lose sight of an enemy, I disengage and go on with my day, instead of going on a relentless crusade to kill, kill, KILL! So, if someone logs on me, I never really know it. I just assume they've escaped. If I have someone "trapped" on a second floor, I slip away. Why the hell would I follow them up if they have a gun? As a "survival" scenario, that's just dumb. So, basically, my point is that "combat-logging" as a problem is proportionate to your level of bloodthirst and aggression, which makes it hard for me to care or see it as a problem for the community as a whole.

The concept of killing has changed in SA

I think your problem is that your entire premise is based on ad hoc statistics. Anecdotal evidence is the worst kind of evidence. Not only that, the hypothetical scenario you gave isn't even a typical DayZ encounter between players. Most people that I've run into don't need anything. The KoS players I've killed are almost always more kitted up than I am. In the current build, I don't see how a geared player could even get that dehydrated and not know where to go to fix it, but my experience tells me that outside of an airfield, you'd get a can of soda out of most people, assuming you didn't make them feel edgy. If your concern is for the game in the long-term, by then we'll all have a lot more to do than just find guns and blast people. Hopefully by then, anyone that's bought the game will have had time to make friends with other players, whether they're a lone wolf or not, making your scenario even less likely, All of my negative encounters in this game (socially awkward mumblers swearing at you after praying and spraying on sight) have been centered around Balota, basically. Up in, say, Berezino or Krasnostav people are overwhelmingly friendly. I wouldn't trust any of them with my exposed back, nor do I loiter around strangers that lack microphones, but that's a whole different aspect of player interaction.
  22. Teddy bears to clutch tightly on the night servers. No, I mostly want camp fires, cooking, authentic roaming and very cautious animals, and some kind of persistent server-side storage to be delivered as soon as possible, but I'm not getting my hopes up about any of it until I see it in some patch notes.

Why the dayz formula will ultimately fail

    What? Sorry...what!?

    Update Rev. 0.36.115535 (Experimental branch)

Is this really what you aspire to in life? When you were a small child, did you look up at the stars and picture yourself complaining that people might be able to eat too easily in a video game? I highly doubt they'll just put in drugs, but if they do add in mushrooms as forage food, along with edible and poisonous types, I'd much rather have a nightmarish psychedelic trip effect from eating the bad ones, as opposed to just having my character die of food poisoning. It's already a game that's not really for kids, even though their parents buy it anyway. It would be perfect for when you don't want to murder someone, but can't trust them enough to uncuff them.

    Should NV/IR be implemented?

I voted yes to NVGs, but it has little to do with realism and everything to do with wanting NVGs in the game..
