Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
hypermoon replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
and thats what everyone else does. So what is the point? Join a day server if you want to see without a flashlight. Real night is pitch fucking black except the sky. -
Lets discuss what is 'Cheating' and what isn't
hypermoon replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
It's cheating if it intentionally avoids the restrictions set by the game. Seeing in the dark because you use gamma is a way of circumventing night. I mean what is the fucking point, might as well play in the day time 24/7 because I know other people have their gamma turned way up. Sure everyone can do it but that totally defeats the intention of the game. What's the point of even having nighttime. TeamSpeak is another area. Yeah not everyone uses it for tactical advantage I know, but the fact remains that some people do. Peeking around corners in third person. One of the reasons I don't like playing on anything but a hardcore server, which is unfortunate because I really like third person. Personally if it cheats the intention of the game, it's cheating. -
The people who want to leave the game alone and not change a thing are really trying to undercut the potential that day z could achieve. Having achievements as rewards doesn't work, I personally have never cared about getting achievements. I want something IN GAME as a driving principal. NO surviving isn't it's own reward. That doesn't make any sense. It's a cop out. I can stack up on cans of beans all damn day and just sit there in the forest, surviving. That's my reward? You gotta be kidding. "No, Just be glad yer alive!", If that was Rocket's response to whether or not this game have anything more in terms of progression I'd throw this game in the trash. The point you made about being robbed is excellent and I think it's how alot of players feel.

I gave a random guy a gun. He was in Elektro and just started playing the game really. Had to ask me how to open the inventory even. Since I had 2 revolvers I gave him one and split my rounds and gave him half. I wanna say he killed me but he actually got axed from behind about 10 seconds after loading his gun by some guy screaming "alah alah ackbar". You can usually tell by how people are talking if they have malicious intent or not. Also if they come directly toward you waving around a big giant red axe saying they want to make friends and give you candy.
-
Why not? It pretty much does. Any reward would give your character more value. Other wise it wouldn't be a reward, or atleast it wouldn't be very rewarding. Same here, I get kinda bored after getting geared out and usually end up almost wanting to die just so I have something to kinda work towards. The game definitely needs someway to make the character more important than loot. There is too much YOLOing when people get held up because of that. People would rather die than lose their gear.

Debating slow vs. fast zombies: A love letter to the undead
hypermoon replied to SirToasty's topic in Suggestions
I want to see lots of zombie variety but I want alot of them to run, and fast. Maybe we should have a poll to see what people prefer if it hasn't been done already. I just watched 28 weeks later and I really love the running zombies so much more than the slow zombies from like a resident evil. The dead should pose a big threat. If I look ahead and see a town with zombies in it, I should be worried about that. I want to get chased by the zombies, that will never happen if they are slow and boring. They need to haul ass and put pressure on. Make u run into buildings and board them up. Move fast so they are difficult to shit in the head. -
That's actually a really good idea. That way you tell if a body is a "fresh" killed body or has been there for a while.

Premium loot -- A balanced proposal to "gearing up"
hypermoon replied to carcinovich's topic in Suggestions
How do you hoard extremely rare items? I read this whole thread. I don't know why you are trying to defend the idea that the game is fine as it is. Even the dev team know that there is an issue with loot being too easily accessible. It's GOING to be made rarer in the future, there is no reason to debate that, it's absolutely going to happen. This is simply a discussion of HOW it's going to happen. Everything OP said about KOS and the game becoming obscenely boring after you are geared out are true. And for some reason alot of people's arguments are "well you just don't know how to play the game", or "you just aren't being creative enough to enjoy the game". No the issue is the games lack of content. The developers even admit that, but for some reason people on this forum think the game is just find and dandy as it is which blows my mind. -
Lately I've noticed that I can just kinda run through places pretty quick and look at the usual out in the open items that are spawned and you can glace pretty quickly and see whether something is there or not. I'd like to see items that are hidden better. Maybe later on items can be in dressers or cupboards or something like that, but I'd also like to see objects hidden under things and behind things. Requiring you to crouch or crawl and to stop and look around and really investigate your surroundings. Sometimes I can just run full speed through a house and check everywhere in a couple seconds so I think it would be alot cooler if players had to spend more time searching around structures.
-
couldn't they make it so the body stayed around for a while but was unlootable but it would give you the option to read diary or something. I think that would be cool. I just like the idea of seeing dead dudes, especially lots of them. Nothing like seeing a bunch of naked corpses when you walk into village.

What Is Your BIGGEST Pet Peeve In DayZ?
hypermoon replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
The having your fists out and running faster. I'm assuming this is a bug? I don't get it, and it looks stupid with everybody walking about fist up like they are gonna fight you. -
Yeah I haven't had a problem with rain. Didn't go through buildings either, really looks nice.
-
One time I stalked this guy for like 15 minutes. I had a mosin. Anyway I decided I was gonna kill him for whatever reason. He stopped, I got close, aimed right at the back of his head. I pull the trigger.. "click click click". Anyway he turns around and shoots me in the face. I think I forgot to load my gun
-
are you saying that you would have to "draw" your message on the paper? I'm definitely down for drawing pictures and things but i think you should be able to type out your message. Diaries are a fantastic idea, especially with the idea of having your stats on one of the pages. I still think dead bodies should stay a bit longer than just 10 minutes or whatever they are currently at though.

Allow players to move while handcuffed and badly hurt
hypermoon replied to Jrjy3's topic in Suggestions
I feel like you should be able to run while handcuffed. Definitely not as fast as normal but you should be able to move alot faster than a slow walk. -
Cigarettes. And the ability to smoke them of course.

It's just like any other game dude. Once progress stops there is nothing left to do, so what do players do? Cause mayhem and chaos. I know there are plenty of players that don't KOS, I'm simply saying alot of KOS is due to just being bored and having no ability to advance in the game. You are saying that if death is harsher, people will play less cautiously? The reason Day Z plays the way it does, with all these intense interactions that get your blood pumping is because of permadeath. It's because there is a penalty for dying. If you make that penalty harsher it will only add to that tension driven gameplay. It will reduce the amount of players just fucking about even more.
-
Ok you died once, congratulations. I got shot about 5 seconds after I spawned on the beach once. lol All people do when they get good gear is KOS. Not everybody, but alot of players. It's because they are bored, it's because there is nothing more to progress towards. I know that gear will be much much harder to acquire when the game is actually released but there is still a higher value on loot than your own life. Everybody values gear over their characters. Is this a good idea? Players should care about their characters more. If authenticity is a goal, this has to change. But it also makes the game less run and gunny, less random KOS, etc. Character progression kills several birds with one stone. I think people think "character progression = grind". There are plenty of ways to avoid that and many of them have been discussed. It certainly would add a little more depth and longevity and more realism. It would also make your character more valuable to you the longer you survive. Dope.
-
Can't agree more. And the game has permadeath. PERMADEATH! How can you not take the advantage of the opportunity to add character progression when you have an awesome feature like that. Any progression you aquire can be lost with one bullet. That's what makes it worth it. If permadeath wasn't a component to this game than I'd definitely agree that it's not something I'd want. But the fact that any progress you got can be lost makes this such a good addition.
-
That has more to do with just playing the game and less to do with surviving for x amount of time I think. Because you can die a million times and still get better at the game and learn the map/spawns, etc. The reward for playing the game is player knowledge but that doesn't play into valuing survival at all really, it doesn't have an effect on that. The only reason people value survival is because they don't want to lose their stuff. Some people have talked about leaderboards and stat tracking. Not a bad idea but not very many people will care about that kind of thing. Your character should get more valuable to you the longer he survives. I hate this kind of concept usually but it's so obvious in a game with permadeath in it.
-
Dying should mean more than losing gear I think. Because unfortunately you can just respawn and your friend who saved your stuff gives can give it back to you in a matter of minutes. If this happened it would make people play the game more cautiously, make interactions far more intense and scary, there would be less random KOS. It would make the game play more like a real zombie apocalypse.
-
Can someone explain how surviving is it's own reward? You get to keep your character alive yes, but there is no more progression past gear. Your character doesn't grow in any way or form. We shouldn't be using our imaginations to fill in a lack of progression we need actual content. If you can't progress in the game anymore for your character, it gets boring.
-
Surviving has no reward. It doesn't matter if you live 70 days or 1. It makes no difference. There is currently no goal or reason to survive other than acquiring gear. But once you are past that then what? This should be addressed.

This game pretty much needs character progression, for several reasons. 1. Gear currently has more value than your characters life. It just doesn't make sense. Story wise or gameplay wise. Some form of character progression is the only real solution to this that can work and it has to have more value than any gear and it needs to be slow progressing. 2. It makes dying harsher. It's puts more value on your character. Makes the game more intense. 3. Discourages violence. Makes players more cautious/less likely to engage in conflict. 4. Desire to continue playing. Once you get completely geared out there's kinda nothing left to do. This way progression continues even after you have the best gear. There is a point to continuing to play your character and not just starting over. 5. It gives more value to surviving for long periods of time.. Because currently it doesn't really mean much. There is probably many other reasons why this is such a good idea. As long as we can implement progressions systems that don't interfere with balanced combat and are grindy it would add alot to this game.
