Okay, it's driving me crazy: What was Hicks talking about there at the end!? Sounded like some juicy information about military zombies, but it got cut off!! :( Was he going to talk about AI differences in behaviors? Was he going to talk about infected having inventories? Was it something different like models and variety? PLEASE, HICKS!! DON'T BE SUCH A TEASE!!!!! :o

So just trying to see if anyone has the same issue and, if so, how you fixed it. Every time I join a server that isn't US-centered my client freezes at the server select screen. It happens every time, too. It really limits my options and sucks when I can't join a server that my friends are in. I have to ctrl+alt+delete and force close the game in order to do anything. I'm running stable 0.55 and have way over minimum game specs.

Still happens on .57, only now it sometimes happens on local servers...

You still can blow up the gas pumps, at least last I checked you could. I know different patches have added and removed the ability, but I think the removal was always a bug. during one of hte live streams they blew up two friendlies by absentmindedly shooting the pump once, haha. I think three .308 rounds on the same pump will spark the whole thing.

It would be a good way to expand upon diseases, like gannon46 said. Would actually make stuff like the medical mask and gas mask more practical and allow their hidden protection value to work for something!

I broke my v3s's front wheels, how can I replace/repair them?
haven923 replied to the_governor's topic in New Player Discussion
Once the zeds aggro your truck, they will stay aggroed to it. You can use your truck as a zombie magnet since they can't do a whole lot of damage to it. As was stated before, the tires will be repaired at server reset. Your gas tank will be reset to full as well ;) If you ever pop just one tire, go ahead and pop the other one so that you will get a smooth ride that doesn't pull to the side... -
See, I saw a gas cannister and no stove :/ Buddy had a stack of ~70 worn matches that he found. Funny story bout that... We were exiting a town and he was having some bad lag from the city. As a result, his truck was rubberbanding a little. To be safe, I stayed about 200 yards behind him. He had a bad patch of lag where his truck teleported inside of my truck, the two vehicles fought for the same space, and I lost. My truck blew up from the massive damage and I got the little white words we all fear. He, however, saw no such thing on his screen. I spawned on the coast and he came to pick me up. Due to his lag, he insisted that I drive. We got maybe a klick along and he desynced. He joined back in and the first thing he said was "I see my body." Turns out, his desyncing while in the truck led to his body getting "run over" (his pants and everything were ruined just like if he had been hi by a truck). It also resulted in all of his gear getting duped, much to my benefit ;) I got fully geared with an AUG, sword, and full inventory of survival gear within an hour ;)

Accuracy is affected by three main attributes (outside of the input of the operator, that is...): Number of moving parts, bullet (and everything from the primer to the powder to the casing that goes along with that bullet), and the barrel. Long barrels tend to increase accuracy for a giver round since increased length means more powder gets burnt, which means the bullet has more velocity, which means it get to its target faster and with more energy. More moving parts means there is more room for "tolerance" to interfere. This is why bolt-action rifles are so popular still in an age of automatic weapons. Bullet is pretty self-explanatory. Every round has a different ballistic quotient, a different effective range, and a different effect at that range. Now, what I was getting at: Assuming you are using the same lot of rounds, that means that there are really only two big differences: the number of moving parts and the barrel. Bullpups, from what I've seen in cutaways and articles, tend to have more moving parts. Like was mentioned above, the trigger is away from the action and the action is clumped inside of the aft of the weapon. The solution? The compact design means that the weight of the weapon is in the rear of the weapon, making it feel lighter and easier to maneuver with. Since everything is shifted back, you can maintain the same barrel length (or even a longer barrel!) in a shorter weapon than a rifle in a standard configuration. Of these two factors, the barrel is the most impactful on performance. Bullpups make sense. I have heard that a lot of Bullpups have a heavier trigger squeeze or that the pull isn't as smooth, but there are all sorts of companies stepping up to make precision trigger groups that put these weapons well above the quality of the tried-and-true M4. Like I said, I've been drooling over a Tavor 5.56 for some time now...

I do. I have no qualms with the M4 by any means, but I am a huge fan of the practicality of the bullpup design. You have a shorter gun with the same--if not greater--accuracy. The mechanics make sense to me. Besides, the M4 isn't ambidextrous. I shoot lefty, meaning my standard issue M4 doesn't accommodate my preferred shooting orientation. However, with a little adaption, the right-handed functions of an M4 are easily perormed from the opposite side. In the case of the magazine release, it is actually more effective from the left-handed position than the right ;)

I actually made a typo in tip #8. Don't be afraid to drink into stuffed. Don't wanna be starving xD

Tomatoes, Zucchini, Pumpkins, and Peppers (to name a couple) are harvestable for seeds with a knife. I haven't tried lately, but I've done it to I think it was a tomato before. Also, matches DO spawn, just SUPER rare! Didn't know about the road flare thing, thanks for the tip!

Can you still dig up cooking pots?
haven923 replied to Lockdown Loaded's topic in New Player Discussion
Waitwaitwaitwati...WAIT! Digging up pots? No shovel is safe now. So I googled some more references to this, and they said that only the shovel worked? Can anyone confirm or deny this? -
O.o" To say the least.

Got a couple of tips for yah, Herkyl: 1.) Get a stone knife and you can cut down bushes and gather ashwood sticks. There are places of dense underbrush where you can search for sticks much like you search for stones. 2.) Guts can be used anywhere rope can be used (make a bow or fishing pole, improvised backpack, or tie someone up) 3.) Bones can be carved into fishing hooks with a knife. Worms can be farmed for using a variety of tools. Practically anything that can dig. (Shovels, hoes, ice pick, etc.) 4.) If you know a server is restarting soon, go to an animal spawn. Kill the animals, skin them using your stone knife, and wait till reset for more materials. 5.) Gardening lime isn't needed for farming, and is (IMO) more valuable for tanning leather. 6.) You can take your stone knife to anything that you can farm to get seeds (tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, etc). Potatoes are planted whole. 7.) Berries and apples are a last-ditch effort to stay alive. Yields are slow and they aren't very filling. 8.) Wells don't have cholera. Use them to quench your thirst and top off your water sources when you can. Don't be scared to drink into starving. 9.) Don't eat human meat. Not even once. That sniper you found was a fool. Human meat gives you prion disease with a high rate of infection. This causes your character to laugh and cry uncontrollably. More importantly, and impactful, is that you twitch. It starts out slow at first, but grows to the point of every couple seconds. You can spot a cannibal this way since hte laughing and crying is often bugged or takes a while to present itself. Also, there is an infinite food exploit/bug in the game. Buddy told me about it. Not sure how it works, but I do know that he has had the same can of peaches for a week now and that he likes putting his hands up before he eats.

^^This^^ The AUG was a nice touch. I've been drooling over a Tavor 5.56 in real life for some time now. Bullpups make so much sense from a military standpoint. Heck, one of the main reasons why the US hasn't switched over to a bullpup-styled weapon yet is because of politics...

Some realistic ideas for craftable Items not suggested before
haven923 replied to HomerJay27's topic in Suggestions
Unfortunately, I can tell you that about 90% of this list has been suggested before :/ Still a very good list!! I am actually currently wearing full Natural Leather Gear with a Brown Cowboy Hat and Complete Plate Carrier on the private shard I play in. Would rock the Natural Leather Vest, but...c'mon! Plate Carrier! I particularly like the shin guards idea. Perhaps have some chaps, too, that would get "attached" to pants without hip pockets? Like jeans or practically anything that isn't military or cargo pants. Extra inventory is absolutely needed with the natural leather gear. The pack (which I'm also using) isn't that bad, since it has a row more than the improved improvised backpack, but they are hurting in other areas. Maybe have them as tiered? What I mean by that is to have them so that you make the base item, like the pants that have two inventory slots. You could then add more leather to make chaps or shin guards for added protection, and then maybe sew on a pocket or two? A couple more squares would be nice, maybe horizontal like the rider's jacket? Maybe make some niche stuff like a forearm guard for a bow, or a quiver for arrows? Being able attach stuff like knives and stuff to your leather gear would make it a lot more viable. Using oils to darken leather gear would be a nice addition, too... That stuff is pretty friggin' bright! I do think the Yukon pack would be awesome, especially if/when they add in the ability to take tarp and make tents like the ones in FOBs and randomly in the woods... Here is an old screenie... -
Please no infant zombies. Or babies. *Thinks of Dead Space baby necromorphs...*

I found a beige one in the tower of a firestation once. I then proceeded to get respawned naked at the bridge... (thought that was fixed :/) How does it hold up in rain, considering a firefighter jacket is just a fire resistant rain coat...?

A machette is, by definition, a "large knife." How it is is a perfect iteration. True, it's less intimidating than a wolf mask-wearing bandit with a (more-or-less) sword in hand, but it is a more practical and believable variant. Hollywood likes to glamorize machetes into something that they are not. They are a tool used to clear tall grass and underbrush, possibly a thin tree or two. They're not directly intended to be used to sever heads or impale sweaty teens in the middle of some extra-curricular recreational activities. It's a chopping tool, not a stabbing one anyways! And while it's true that machetes are common in the west, they are pretty common worldwide as well. I've owned a couple machetes in my life and all of them were similar to the one currently featured in the game. They are extremely effective at chopping brush. I do think they need a damage boost to zombies since they are also very capable of inflicting bodily harm (I got a scar from one...) but it should still be a 2-3 hit weapon. I've never seen a machete that came without a scabbard, too... Just sayin' ;)

Have you tried just taking the shovel or gardening hoe into your hands instead of replacing the rod?

My first death came from starvation as I was trying to figure out how to put the battery into my flashlight... not nearly as glamorous as some of you guys' stories xD

Did i run into a hacker, or has the spawn chance for grenades increased dramatically?
haven923 replied to wowi132's topic in General Discussion
I know that, feel, bro. Personally, I liked the newer bridge map better, the one with alternate routes and whatnot. AA 3.0 did a good job bringing back the original and balancing some of it. Man... I need to redownload that game and see where it is at... -
It doesn't really work like that.... :| If they did something like this then they would have to have a more realistic zeroing mechanic and any weapon with half of some binos as a scope would be impossible to zero since the duct taped "scope" would shift ever so slightly with every shot...

Just wondering if anyone else out there still has one? Long story short, I picked up DayZ a few months before deploying overseas. I instantly fell in love with it and played it nearly daily. Through skill, teamwork, and no small amount of dumb luck, I ended up having a character who became known as "Dr. Grant" based on some visual similarities that has now been alive for over seven months, with almost two months of that being nearly daily playing for at least a few hours. This character has by far been my most memorable character and has endured the most life-threatening situations and some of the most unfortunate accidents. Fairly early on, I acquired a Mosin Nagant at a time when you either had this rifle or an M4 to be "fully geared." This same rifle has endured the spray paint bug where, once painted, only a single round could be chambered in the rifle at a time. That was patched and the rifle regained full functionality. Through many many (MANY) hours of playing, I acquired every attachment for the rifle. When I saw the patch notes and, more specifically, that the bipod had been stripped from being compatible with the Mosin (which I support for realism, as much as it may suck) a little piece of me broke. I thought for sure that I would have to run around with nothing more than my FNX45 to protect me until I found a new replacement. This was reinforced when I logged onto a character I had managed to laggily log into who had obtained some binoculars and said binoculars had been wiped when they were updated in a patch. Much to my surprise (and relief), the Mosin remained fully functional, bipod included. Now it has been quite some time since this patch was passed, so I wanted to know if what I consider a unique gem in the SA is truly that unique. I'm not trying to get bragging rights by any means. I certainly hope I'm not the only one to still have such a rare item. I actually have since added a grass wrap to the rifle making it the most upgraded a Mosin could get. So... anyone else have one? Anyone have any items that you consider extremely rare or now unobtainable? Anyone have a character who has been alive for 6+ months with frequent playing? (For this, frequent can mean 100 + hours on the character with at least 5 hours in the past week)

I'm not alone!! Unfortunately, Dr. Grant (which is based on Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park, sorry for not clarifying that earlier xD) is on the normal servers so our characters couldn't meet up and go on a sniping spree ;) While still "in country" I'm being very careful with my character. Low-pop servers for now until I get back to the states, haha. This has given me the chance to play more on experimental and hunt for some bugs, though...
