Yeah, like the '85. What more could you want?

I suggested the lever action because it's based on what can be found in real life and wouldn't be a stretch. You could also spin-cock it with one hand for extra cool points or do it two-handed for a rapid unload.

I did not make it, it was custom made by a guy who does them for a few models of Mare's Legs. Seeing as to how the FNX45 and .357 Mag both fit snugly in the same leather holster, it would be more than plausible by game mechanics for both the sawn-off shotty and the sawn-off lever-action to fit. Unless I have an FNX45 with a few attachments, I use the sawn-off shotgun as a secondary. My hardcore character (RIP) had a Blaze and a shotty to go with his cowboy hat ;)

I vote on collecting ears. Would work the same as IDs, but would have that bandit twist ;) Anyone who has played Diablo II understands... -

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the lore, didn't US forces occupy the island at some point? The US uses MOLLE and ALICE to this day, but the emphasis is on MOLLE. Like I suggested before, it could be possible to have both sets of gear at some point. MOLLE would certainly be the rarer item, but ALICE would also recquire clamps ;) -
Forgive the following reference, I am a huge halo nut. In Halo 4, 343I wanted to add a little bit of specialization to loadouts, but didn't want "perks." Their solution? They made customizable packages that you had to unlock and other players couldn't necessarily tell what you had equipped. Some were notable when certen actions were taken, but most were unseen. Skills should be like that. You can't tell what somebody has, even when performing a lot of common tasks. The improvement should be notable to the trained eye of the player improving their own skills, but should not negate knowledge of the game. Difficult tasks (like repairing the power plant of a helicopter) should be difficult and, honestly, not everyone should be able to do it. Somebody who has, say, repaired a car a few times and also fixed other parts of the helicopter would have a better understanding and would therefore be able to attempt to repair a helicopter. Somebody who just found their first gun wouldn't be steady with it. Most people would be able to grasp the concept that the end that goes boom faces away from you, but not everybody knows the fundamentals of marksmanship. Hate to say it, but the more you use a gun, the less sway and recoil it should have. It should at least have a faster return-to-zero to compensate the recoil. this would make an experienced player no less capable of hitting and killing an enemy than somebody with time invested to their character, but would be noticable and greatly valued to the owner of said progressed character. Somebody with a two full medkits (like my current character) would still be useless of the game mechanics/real world uses of medical supplies, but they could, like suggested earlier, be able to apply bandages quicker, have lower chance of infection, and use supplies more sparingly (6 uses from bandages, rather than 2-4). Somebody who spends the majority of their time stalking the underbrush for wild game could have a softer foot fall and spook animals less frequently. As mentioned, somebody who does a lot of running (i.e. everybody) could have an easier time keeping their breath and have lower chances of heart attack. Is this unfair to Bambis? No more unfair than a fresh-spawn running into a fully-geared bandit. In the end, the amount of time you put into your character should be something that you don't want to lose. As-is, I could die and run to an airfield to meet up with a friend and instantly be almost back to where I was before succumbing to the brain fever. Perhaps there could be physical indicators of higher level skills. Nothing too terrible, but a trained mechanic could have a grease smear on his cheak, a doctor cook could have a hair net, etc. Some things could have draw backs that you have to concern yourself with, as well! Somebody well versed in skill books and with several high-ranked skills could develop blurry vision and require glasses!

At the least, highways should have a few signs with teh highway's name/number and town names/distances should have more signs farther out than "Oh, I'm here. What town is this?" Even once you go inland, there are some pretty large towns/locations.

Say the tactical vest didn't have eight slots. It would be a cool outer layer item, but would be useless. But now say you found two magazine pouches and an IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit). Now you have eight slots for weapon magazines and another however many for medical supplies. I'm not saying hte vest should come without slots, but that could be one way of doing it. -

I lied, there is already a topci on holsters, but I don't feel it has what I think it really needs. So, holsters... PICTURE HEAVY!! We have one and it works really well. The problem is it doesn't really do anything other than hold a pistol. Holsters should give a boost (i.e. faster draw speed) and therefore make it a decision on wether you want an 8-slot vest or a nimble back-up/CQB gun. I also feel that there should be a different variant of the chest holster (under arm) with the ability to hold at least one clip for the FNX45/future clip-fed pistols. And now you are asking "What tangent are you working off of now?" Here it is: There are holsters that clip to belts (the same 2" belt showin in OP) and strap around your thigh. They can be fixed or modular in design so that you have the possibility of having a bit of extra modularity on your thigh that you could throw a FAK or some extra magazines on. Such a holster is frequently used in the military because it could attach to a normal belt as well and puts the pistol not only in easy reach, but also well below the soldier's body armor and out of the way. I mentioned fixed and those could come in two variants: a thigh variant like the thigh MOLLE panel mentioned earlier, or a simple on-belt design like civilian and law enforcement. The holster I would most like to see is a "bucket" holster. This type of holster is traditionally leather and functions similarly to the chest holster in that the weapon slides in and is not necessarily clipped in. I actually own a bucket holster. You can see it here sitting nicely between my jury-rigged knife and my multitool (both of which I always wear on me in uniform). I love it, it's a true work of art and serves its use to the best I could ever wish. What do you use it for, you ask? Well, it holds an amazing little pistol. (Please note that I do NOT have a bubble butt... the leather strap that ties it to your leg was bunching up the back of my pants and I didn't notice until after I posted...) And in its full beauty... That is a Rossi Ranch Hand, chambered in .45LC. It is in a family of firearms called the "Mare's Leg." Legally, it's a pistol. I wouldn't try it as a concealed carry weapon, though... Why would we have one of these, you ask? In The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone there is one Winchester 1895 Lever Action Rifle. The original Mare's Legs were cut-down variations of similar lever-action rifles (tube-fed, rather than box). This would be a recipe gun that would require a hacksaw... much like a certain sawn-off shotgun currently in the game that *gasp* could use the same holster! While it is a niche request, I feel that it would be a valid addition to the sand box that would allow for a lot more expression, easier inventory management (much like the OP mentioned, for later on in the build when there are a lot more items that you may/may not need to carry around). It really is a simple addition to the game that would require the use of a belt (unless you wanted to add a western-style ammo belt incorporated into the holster... PLEASE!!! While you may say that this is far-fetched, keep in mind that there is a civilian population that once lived where we are located in the world of DayZ. By that right, anything is possible. That may be a cop out, but anything with enough thought becomes plausible. Besides, a lot of people have an interest in "cowboy guns." Mossberg certainly knew that when they made this beautiful .30-.30 with a cool little back scabbard... -

I was actually going to write up a post on this exact topic as my first presentation to the forum/devs, but you did a splendid job! Few things I would like to add: The LBV (I call it the same thing) is designed in a manner that it can be worn over body armor. This compatability could be up to the dev's opinion and could present a in-game trade-off dilema: inventory space or protection. Modern standard issue US Army mag pouches come in two varieties: velcro-closed double pouch (the 1x2 suggested in OP) and 3-mag pouches (3 mags side-by-side-by-side in a wider, but thinner pouch). A lot of people I have seen attatch first the 3-mag pouch to the front of their armor (such a pouch does not normally fit on an LBV) and then three single-mag pouches attatched proportionately on top of that. That gives you a grand total of 9 magazines. A standard combat load for the US is 210 rounds (7 magazines, one in rifle). Some form of modularity would be an interesting dynamic to the game with some pouches compatible with some systems and not with others. The clips in OP, correct me if I'm wrong, are used in the ALICE modularity system. ALICE is interesting in that it is compatible with MOLLE (US Army's primary at the moment, incorporates weaving layers of fabrick and snap buttons in place of clips). Some pouches could go without using the clips. Something I am very sincere with are holsters. That, however, will be continued in a separate thread... -
Would be an interesting dynamic. It certainly would be a big decision if, say, your buddy drops in the middle of a town overrun with zombies. You may be forced to abandon your friend or stop during CPR to save your own life!
