They also added a sweet cabin building there I believe. I haven't been there yet myself because I haven't had a chance to play much since 0.42 came out, but it looks interesting. EDIT: Since I can't seem to get the correct link for the post itself, go here and scroll towards the bottom of the first page to see what I'm referring to: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/180885-things-i-found-so-far-in-the-new-update/

That was the default on most servers I played on prior to 0.42 being pushed to stable. They were generally set to start at 09:00 and reset at something like 16:00. Why so early, I don't know.

Experimental. I play stable, but I follow the Experimental branch to see what's coming up :) -

Any changes this morning, or were the servers just down for regular maintenance of some sort? -
I'm still experiencing quite a bit of desync to the point where I couldn't enjoy the game. A small part of it may be the connection I was playing on, but I've never had issues with this connection supporting the game before and it tested well before I played. I'm seeing 500-600 ping on average for every server when I view the server lists :( I guess I just won't play for a while. No point in playing if it's just going to frustrate me and I can't enjoy it.

Where is this? If you don't mind sharing.
-
I couldn't have said it better myself. Rather than complain about this, we should all be using it as an opportunity to get better at the game.
-
Is it really that bad?? I haven't played yet, but I will be this evening. I just can't imagine there being so many zombies that you're overwhelmed. I've fought off a half-dozen or more at a time with just an axe.
-
Waiting for someone else to confirm this. I haven't played yet today, but I will be later and I would rather deal with fixing this problem before I get too into it. I have only ever played stable, so theoretically I'm okay, but some of my friends play both.

I recently made my way to Black Lake for the first time (eastern side of the map towards the coast) and it is absolutely gorgeous. Very secluded, as well. http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Black_Lake The screenshot there is mine, but not the best I've taken of the area.

Since I tend to play in a handful of the same servers all the time that are daytime-only and follow a schedule, it's pretty easy for me to tell when the server is going to reset either by looking at the time before I join (and estimating) or by taking a look at the position of the sun in the sky. I agree that it would be nice to have a more formal warning, but there are ways to tell if you play consistently.

Thank you so much, Aggathor. I'm not generally a numbers-obsessed person, but I am always looking for ways to gain an advantage in a game like this where the playing field is so level. Prior to seeing hard numbers from your testing, my friends and I have always prioritized clothing and armor in this order: 1. camouflage, and then 2. inventory slots. In other words, first and foremost is what will keep us hidden from other players and our secondary concern is how much stuff we can carry. We have, up to this point, assumed that all clothing was more or less equally worthless at protecting you based on our own experiences of getting killed very easily (hence why visual cover was priority #1). Now that we have some figures to look at, we can conclude that we have been making our clothing suggestions "correctly" in that protection levels are, for the most part, irrelevant. The few items that do give you a small advantage already align with our method of choosing: Hunting Backpack, UK Assault Vest, etc. The items best for protection are coincidentally also the best for hiding you and carrying your loot ;) This is good to know.

Nice shot! I'm also curious to know where it was taken. You have to stop and smell the roses once in a while ;)

What is your Dayz experience level as far as time goes?
Tatanko replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I started playing in January shortly after the Standalone came out. I'll fully admit that I had seen pictures, videos, and articles about the ridiculousness of this game and bought right into it along with like 10 of my friends, which never happens -- we can never ALL like one single game as a group, and this game pulled off the impossible! I've loved every minute of my experience too, both the good and the bad. Nothing I have ever played before has been anything even remotely like this. This game is like all of my favorite things wrapped up into one neat little package; like the kind of game I imagined playing in the future as a kid 10 or 15 years ago, except now it actually exists and I can play it whenever I want :) Well said, folks. Absolutely no other game makes me feel the weight of my actions and the reality of what is going on around me quite like this game. It's so simple and yet so satisfyingly ridiculous! -
Players are more attached to loot then keeping character alive
Tatanko replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
I agree with you, OP. Just last night I was fully geared, walking around in the northeast minding my own business, and got snuck up on and killed. I let out a breath of discontent, but immediately said to myself, "Who cares if I just died? I'll regear in like an hour." Sure, I won't have my ideal clothing, guns, ammo, whatever, but it doesn't take long to go from helpless bambi to productive survivor. Seeing as my primary goal playing the game at this point is just to explore, my gear is really irrelevant and my focus is on making sure my character is healthy so I can keep doing my thing. That's how it should be, in my opinion. -
This sounds about right. Factors I believe contribute to your time: 1. Luck. If you don't spawn near anything, you waste time just figuring out where you are and getting somewhere with loot. Then you have to be lucky that there is loot left for you to get where you do end pu. 2. Experience. As a brand new player, you have no clue what you're doing. 70 hours in and I know exactly which buildings to go to, how to not waste my time, and most importantly how to navigate quickly. 3. Solo or in a group. If you have friends with excess gear and consumables, it is pretty easy to get back up on the horse and continue what you were doing before you died. If you're by yourself, you are going to spend more time searching that could have been saved by being gifted some of your inventory. Friends can also speed up the process of searching for loot if you work together.

The answer is: yes, there are people who sit and read books in this game. Although I haven't really done it yet myself, I'm tempted to next time none of my friends are online to play with just for something to do. I just need an interesting book to read. Is it completely ridiculous that such a thing (in its entirety) is in a PC game? Yes, absolutely. Some people will still embrace it, though.

One thing I would love to see transfer over from the mod.
Tatanko replied to helcol's topic in General Discussion
I still do that :P In my defense I didn't begin playing until February of this year on the Standalone and still have yet to see absolutely everything even after 70 hours. I'm also taking notes and screenshots as I go along to help improve the various wiki sites. It can be fun to just get lost! -
Discussion: Giving Players a Reason to Interact, not just KOS.
Tatanko replied to D Train's topic in General Discussion
You think so? My friends and I have always operated in groups because we see strength in numbers. That's not to say we go marching through town side-by-side like British redcoats, we are very stealthy. We hide our numbers, like the Sand People from Star Wars :P Very well said :) This! -
I now have a theme song when I walk through towns
Tatanko replied to oregonized's topic in General Discussion
My friends and I have taken to playing the "COPS" theme song whenever we are in town on a more populated server, particularly if we see somebody :P -
I can't say that I run into people a whole lot, but I've never encountered anyone doing anything out of the ordinary.
-
You are probably in the extreme minority with that opinion, OP.
-
I absolutely do not regret this purchase. Even in its alpha form, this is the most fun I've had with a PC game since the original days of Counter-Strike. Seriously.
-
As others have already said: 1. Get a mic. 2. Convince some friends to get the game. Those two things will change the game for you a great deal. In the absence of things to accomplish, imagination will become your fun. Interacting with other people (positive or negative) keeps things exciting, and if you haven't seen the whole map there's a lot for you to see. My friends and I spent the better part of a day (like 8 hours) just making a big circle around the map and visiting things we wanted to see (i.e. castles).

Those do get very old. If everyone just quit their complaining and got back to uploading hilarious YouTube videos of their encounters with other players, we would all be better off :)
