    Took a Walk (April 5th)

Hey everyone. Nothing all too special, but I got bored and didn't have any of my usual friends to play with this weekend, so on Saturday I just decided to take a walk around and try out my new laptop hardware (and slightly higher settings). I decided to take a few screenshots along the way. I really enjoyed just walking around and enjoying the scenery -- I wish more people would take the time to! Have a good week everyone B)

    Took a Walk (April 5th)

I've seen all kinds of awesome stuff, and I finally decided to start taking pictures of it for other people to enjoy. There are soccer fields all over the place, but I swear none of them are anywhere obvious. I've even seen some waaayyy up north where very few people ever travel. I would probably take the pictures in first-person even if I played in third-person; they just look better that way in my opinion. It makes it more about the scenery (and less about the person in it) as well as giving you the feeling that you're the one viewing it for yourself as opposed to someone else. In other words, I think it makes you feel like you're there. This specific one is in the marsh between Komarovo and Balota. That's where many of these pictures were taken. I believe the one you're referring to is directly across the road from the shipwreck at Rify (the bay south of Svetlo). If you look at a map of Chernarus, it's the exact middle between the shipwreck and Willow Lake. That's not to confuse it with the wrecked ship at Skalisty Proliv, but I don't think you meant that one.

    Took a Walk (April 5th)

Right? There are also plenty of undeveloped areas (placeholders for towns) and just plain wilderness that most people would never even consider. The first picture is from Kopyto, which is tucked up into the treeline north of Prigorodki. You would never think to go there because it isn't near anything.

    Took a Walk (April 5th)

I said "have a good week" :P I agree, I wish more people would do this. I spend a lot of time just exploring; going places I haven't ever been or that rarely get traveled.

    Crosshair/Dot gone soon.

As others have said, it can be mildly useful in helping you pick up things that won't detect via proximity in your inventory screen, but other than that it doesn't serve much purpose. I can't say it really bothered me, though.

    Chernogorsk Wallpaper

Do you have a link to the higher-res version? When I click on it and go to save, the Photobucket version is only 979x612, not 1920x1200.
  7. I think that sums it up nicely. If they fix their ability to move through objects/walls they can make them as hard as they want and I won't care. I just need to be able to clear them for a period of time or escape them temporarily.

Is it just me or inland is really empty?

I must have better/worse luck than the rest of you, because I would say 2/3 of the time if I run into somebody it's inland, even if there are only a handful of other people in the server. It's usually along a road or something as well, not in a town.

Causes the for existence of KOS.......poll

In the few times I've been killed by another player, I've always just assumed it's because I pose a threat to them. They may justify it a million other ways, but at the end of the day if I didn't seem like a threat they probably wouldn't bother to kill me. Lucky for me, most people don't ever know I'm near them and lucky for them I don't KoS most of the time.

    DayZ sells 1.7 million copies

Well said. My thoughts exactly about, well, all of it. I'm just wondering what their idea of "finished" is.
  11. I plan on swapping out my HDD for an SSD in a day or two and I would prefer not to lose my character if at all possible. I'm trying to avoid transferring most things, but if I need to move particular files for my character I would like to know ahead of time what I should save. Is there anything I even need to move?
  12. Got a chance to play this afternoon and all was well, as expected. It's even better with an SSD now, though!

Great shot, with or without the editing :)

    21 hours of dayz

I've got well over 100 hours now and I'm not the slightest bit bored with it. As with any other activity, there are days where I'm just not in the mood and can't be bothered to play it, but the experiences in this game will always keep it interesting for me. Content may be very limited at the moment, but there's an endlessly supply of fun to be had regardless thanks to your encounters with other people. I was even finally spurred on to buy an SSD for my laptop because of this game! I had been putting it off forever, but between this game and prices coming down, I couldn't resist any longer.
  15. Excellent, thanks. I should have Windows (it's a Mac) and DayZ reinstalled within the next day or so to see for myself.
  16. Well, it's a good guess... and it's at least sensible, unlike complaining :)

    Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251

Unless that was a server-side change, then I don't think so.
  18. I was certain I was logged into my Steam account. Who knows. I never attempted it again and have no reason to, thankfully. I think I just wanted to see what the game looked like on his higher-end desktop versus my laptop. Anyway, thanks for being so helpful!
  19. Sweet! Thanks so much. That saves me some work, and some worry. The only reason I had any concern is because I didn't understand how/where it saved the character information. At one point when I first started playing the Standalone I had signed on to play on a buddy's PC and for some reason it was his character rather than mine! :P I'm assuming that was due to it being his "copy" of the game on his PC that I was logged into?

    Concept Tab menu

I think a couple of the image links are now broken, but I can still see the main image and I think it looks great!

Why kill someone and not loot them?

This. I am 99% sure this was the reason.
  22. I can't think of one specific moment, but from the moment I started playing the game I've always been more of a "hero" character. My friends and I are typically carrying way more than we need in supplies, so we almost always share with someone who has a positive interaction with us (and doesn't try to kill us!). I don't know that we can be considered true heroes because we have never saved anyone but each other, and we tend to keep to ourselves, but if I had to put it in D&D terms we are probably "Neutral Good".

    if you had the choice

It is somewhat helpful to spawn near the coast because it makes it very easy to get your bearings, but I do wish there were more variety to it. Of the three, I said Berezino because in my experience it is the least likely to have experienced players nearby. I run into fresh spawns there all the time looking for supplies, though.

What I have been relegated to...

There are definitely still friendly people in this game. This was proven to me last night immediately after I was treated poorly. I logged into a server with my buddy near Berezino with about 10 other people currently in the server. We had the really unfortunate luck of spawning practically right in the sights of another two players who were a few levels up in a construction building. They pretended to be friendly but almost immediately mowed us down. When the two of us respawned near the coast, we both simultaneously ran into separate groups of friendly players near Svetlo and Solnichniy numbering four people and two people respectively. They both identified themselves as part of "The Coast Patrol" or "Border Patrol" and had thick Southern US accents. Both groups chatted with us, gave us a few items, and sent us on our way. It was incredibly out of the ordinary but restored a little bit of my faith in the community to not be entirely KoS. There's nothing wrong with KoS if it's how you play, but it is definitely nice to have positive interactions with other players once in a while without ending in bloodshed. In both cases, my friend and I could have easily been killed walking up to groups of other players, but they chose to be nice and give us items instead, the same as we have done for others in the past.

    Oh you sneaky devs's

Sweet. I hope they add them elsewhere also. From what I've seen in screenshots, they look like a good meeting place for friendly players.
