    Weekend Travels Part 2

My last thread about walking Chernarus seemed to be appreciated, so I decided to post another. Two buddies and I traveled about the last two evenings gearing up and taking pictures for the wiki. These are some of my favorite from the weekend. Enjoy!

Bump for good eye candy :p Only going to bump it once.

    Sickle Image (Pristine)

If you're willing, I'll definitely throw that up on the wiki for you. I'm one of the few regular contributors there (or at least it seems that way), and any help I can get in making it more complete is great. Can I ask... what kind of slots does it take up (i.e. 2 vertical, 2 horizontal, etc.)?
  5. I voted "Option B" but I'll just say this: I treat everyone situation on a case-by-case basis. There are a number of different appearance factors, behavior factors, the factor of location, whether or not they communicate, how they communicate, etc.

Couple of funny pics from Balota, Chernorus

    ...or it's just a bird.
  7. So by now I'm sure at least a few of you have noticed the signs in northern Chernarus point you to a few places you might not be familiar with... Anyway, the three names translate to "Chernaya Polana" (added to the map in 0.42), "Novodmitrovsk", and "Smirnovo". I have only seen this discussed in passing in this thread, but it's an old thread now. Does anyone want to speculate on these two hypothetical places? Since the distances are within Chernarus, it would seem they are likely places that are planned to exist. Perhaps one is the unnamed new town being added most recently?

    Novodmitrovsk & Smirnovo

Just outside Svetlo on the main road up north that goes east-west. I figured as much.
  9. I was just going to say... if it isn't due to switching between hardcore and regular, it's probably this glitch/hiccup. I've had this happen to me as well, though only maybe once or twice.
  10. Glad to hear about a positive experience once in a while. They are not the majority of stories, that's for sure. As for that second server, you likely joined Hardcore (assuming you usually play Regular) which has its own separate character save.

    New Experimental?

I'm curious to hear more feedback about the little things as well. Yikes! I had grown accustomed to being able to fight whole groups of zombies by myself with just an axe. Looks like I'll need to get even better at it :p Also, thanks for the note about mouse smoothing, I'll have to remember that if I have issues with it later. I don't remember what mine is set to, but it's something to keep in mind. This is a relatively minor update as far as user-facing features go, but they are laying a lot of really important groundwork for future updates and this particular patch is to test that groundwork before they move forward. My guess is you have no knowledge of how software development and testing works. All good comments. Thanks for sharing!

    Chernarus Map Easter Egg

This is something I noticed a long while ago but never really thought much of it. I even bothered to translate the name to see what it was. I was hoping it was a hint towards expanding the game area :p
  13. I have watched nearly the exact same thing happen to a buddy of mine. Four of us were on a server together, but he was off by himself and he was too far away for the rest of us to help him once things finally did go wrong. It has never happened to me personally, but then I don't trust anyone ever, and neither does my buddy anymore. When I do have a positive encounter with randoms, I tend to keep them at an arm's length no matter how friendly they are -- and I make it known, and tell them exactly why. They are usually pretty understanding about it.

What are the most popular VoIP programs for DayZ?

I started off using Skype to simply connect two remote groups of friends, but when you start involving people in more than two locations it becomes annoying. TeamSpeak is much easier for groups.

The Deputies. ( Large group pictures. )

    Neat idea! Thanks for sharing.

Can a Macbook pro run on Dayz Standalone?

I'm a fanboy for having an opinion (based on multiple-ownership experience) that differs from your own? Good luck being successful in the world after high school graduation, if you make it that far. No one is getting butthurt over OS X... just the misinformation being spread that the hardware isn't up to the task. There's a TON of evidence to the contrary, my own experience included, but everyone seems to be willing to just gloss right over that and onto the hate. Keep perpetuating your opinion as fact, though. Life must be fun when you're ignorant to the world around you and make statements that have no basis in experience. To the OP: given your particular specs, it will run the game just fine on Windows via Boot Camp. Just keep your expectations for settings at a realistic level. /thread

Can a Macbook pro run on Dayz Standalone?

I think you're exaggerating just a bit. 8GB would be fine, but I do consider it the minimum to support a good experience with modern games. Mmmmk then. My two-and-a-half-year-old MacBook Pro that can run the game on High settings with an acceptable FPS would like a word with you. Granted, my laptop has a good bit more muscle than the OP's, but it's still a "dumb ol' Macintosh". Also, my 7-year-old MacBook Pro that still works flawlessly and runs the latest version of OS X would also like a word with you.
  18. I've had plenty of lesser scary moments involving a zombie that I thought was another random player (especially since 0.42). Those are all too common anymore, and they particularly scare you when you're somewhere that wouldn't usually have other players.

Chernogorsk & Apartments Max Graphics Settings in 1080p

Thanks for the reply. I was curious to know because I settled on a particular mix of settings after I upgraded to an SSD and it involved turning up a few of my settings. That wasn't one of them :p

Chernogorsk & Apartments Max Graphics Settings in 1080p

By "Object Detail" do you mean the Objects setting under Quality, or Texture Detail under Textures?

Who has never played DayZ mod?

I have not played the Mod, nor any of the ArmA games.

    What You Get Attached To...

I would have to say the character. Gear can always be reacquired, but the inconvenience of a respawn in a random location is quite annoying.

    DayZ on MAC?

I've already done everything on that page that doesn't directly relate to graphics, as my game runs just fine on normal or higher settings without needing to limit draw distance and what not. As for the power saver & graphics card options... does that apply to Windows? My understanding is that Boot Camp by default uses the discrete GPU (not the integrated graphics). I also don't think there are any power options affecting my gaming either, the thing absolutely guzzles power while I'm playing (yes I keep it plugged in, duh).

Shipwreck, am I the only one?

Same here. Are we talking about the shipwreck at Rify?

    DayZ on MAC?

I get the impression that the OP was asking about running the game on OS X, not Mac hardware, given the way he phrased it. My Late '11 MacBook Pro w/ 16GB RAM and an SSD runs it on "Normal" settings across the board just fine with an acceptable FPS. I'm by no means totally unable to play the game on max settings either, it's just incredibly choppy. This is all at the native 1680x1050 resolution, for the record.
