+ Totally okay! We all have our moments. Now you know :) The largest "cave" that I know of is up north at about ~148 016. It's in the huge mess of rocks between Svetlo and the new village of Berezhki. http://dayzdb.com/map#6.148.016
-
Confirmation? I would say they more or less confirmed it a few weeks back in the 8th of September Dev Report. They included a map that outlined all of their intentions in the North, including that base and other towns.

I've submitted a few bug reports for incorrect road signs as well, and I'm guessing they've been wrong since Arma 2. They're the ones that direct you at an intersection (left, right, straight, etc.). Several of the ones I've found in the southwest part of the map point the wrong direction :p

Oh man, this had me rolling. Nettles is... "special" :)
-
The "eye of the storm", if you will? :p It will surely be something someday.

The compound? http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Compound_(Krasnostav) Nobody really knows yet. I've discussed this facility at length with another forum member and we can't really come to any conclusion. That has been there for many versions now, but they haven't really done much with it. It has military-style walls and towers, but the bunk-houses don't immediately indicate "military". It also wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to de-militarize the NEAF and then re-add military items in basically the same spot, at least in my opinion.

There aren't technically any caves in Chernarus, but there are some awesome rock formations in a few different places -- particularly along the coast just north of Svetlojarsk. With barricading in place, they could be made into a quasi-base structure very easily and have large overhangs to keep you and your stuff dry and safe.

DayZ in 2012 vs Now, and why DayZ was so much more fun for me in 2012. Tl;dr at bottom
Tatanko replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
This is an older post, but I had to quote this. This is excellent! Not to mention stuff is being added ALL the time, including new places on the map. Almost every major version of the alpha has added a new town, or key location, or whatever and many of them are in out-of-the-way places that are worth exploring for their scenery alone. I suspect that many players who are "bored" or "did everything already" aren't really trying very hard to find something new to do. Me? I've been EVERYWHERE... and I'll continue exploring undeveloped areas from now until they stop making map changes. Camping in general will be greatly improved as they continue to work on the functionality of the items involved (and continue to add new things, like the camo tent). As for hunting, how would you go about improving it? As of right now, it's kind of basic, but so is hunting in real life. What can you do in real life that you can't do in the game? Animals are where you would expect them to be, killing them is similar to real life (with the exception of limited AI), harvesting them results in predictable items, and the harvested items are used in a predictable and realistic way. They could make it a little more difficult, sure, but if the current build of 0.50 is any indication, you won't want animals to be harder to kill. They're one of the best sources of food right now if you've got the tools to skin one. ...and that still holds true today. It's still a huge risk if you're in a high traffic area. I never, ever kill zombies with a gun if I have an acceptable melee alternative that's quieter because I don't want to risk revealing my position to other people. -
Boooo. I'll hold out hope that Hicks is pulling our collective leg in an effort to maintain a surprise :p

Context, context, context. He said "run through" meaning he doesn't spend a lot of time hanging out there. This thread is about where people stay for a while.

I can assure you that chickens exist, as I finally killed one outside Msta last night. That seems to be the easiest place to find one; specifically on the western side of town near a small shed and what appears to be a setup for chicken cages or something. Found two at the same time, actually. Still searching for a rabbit, though... and they seem to be particularly hard to track down. I'm not actually convinced pigs (NOT wild boars!) are in the game yet. I've certainly never seen one, and neither has anyone I play with. The only time I've even seen them show up in the changelog was in 0.45, and that was just a note about their pelt being added. I could be wrong and it might actually be in, but if it is I have no idea where I would look. Perhaps they're in the game but don't spawn? Items I've never seen: press vest, anti-stab vest, SMERSH vest, and tents. To be fair, I don't go looking for those things very often, but I truly have never seen one. I've seen a group of already-in-use tents in the far northwest, but none I could actually claim for myself.

Good advice! I still regularly run into people near the factory between Solnichniy and Nizhnoye as well. Sort of, yes. Not in the way that it was previously. It would seem there are still some people who enjoy hanging around that area for one reason or another; perhaps due to it being relatively nearby to the westernmost spawn point (Chernogorsk). Old habits die hard.

Why are there still awkward animations that cannot be canceled?
Tatanko replied to Surefire187's topic in General Discussion
What are you basing that number on? I've seen people flinging timelines around a lot lately without much proof of the pace of development, ultimate goals of the dev team, etc. That seems like a good idea, but I would want some sort of safety built-in so I wasn't always accidentally canceling actions. For example: you need to double-tap one of those keys instead of just a single tap. -
Where can I find a press vest these days?
Tatanko replied to aquamonkey's topic in General Discussion
OP: why do you ask? Will you be doing some wasteland reporting soon? Can I be on TV??? :p -
I, too, found it interesting that it took him 3 months to get 30 kills while doing nothing but waiting around to kill people in a high traffic area.
-
That's not possible. The release of 0.49 to Stable a few weeks ago included a character wipe to the entire Stable branch. You would have had to gear up somehow after that wipe. Honestly, this thread seems like an excuse for you to brag about yourself.

We've been given another round of map updates with the first build of 0.50 Experimental, so I'd like to share what I've seen so far. First up, we have the town of Svergino and nearby Pobeda Dam:
-
That does sound like fun! :) Hmm... what now? lol Oh? Really? I hadn't heard of any other map changes (and hadn't explored yet enough to see anything unannounced myself). I'll have to check that out later, thanks for the heads-up! Doesn't it, though? I just want to build a fire on the beach, do some fishing, and watch the tides. Ahh, yes.
-
...and finally, we have the sleepy fishing village of Berezhki:
-
Next, we have the new castle that was added near Svergino:
-
Hmm. I wonder if the dev team are clever enough to include a nod to past shenanigans in the game? That would be cool.
-
Experimental. Just added in 0.50 :)
-
Sweet! I'll have to add this to my to-do list.

Will DayZ reach Beta or at least have the most wanted features in by the end of this year / beginning of next year.
Tatanko replied to xxpillsxx's topic in General Discussion
...and they DO listen to people who have genuinely good ideas and take the time to explain them thoroughly. They've done a great job of that. -
Increase in burlap sacks and rope? Also, the mystery of the mountain backpacks
Tatanko replied to BeefBacon's topic in General Discussion
I noticed an uptick in these items as well. If I'm lucky enough to get an axe quickly as a fresh spawn and haven't already picked up something bigger, an improvised backpack is pretty easy to secure for yourself now. It makes a lot of sense that these items would be common in an area like Chernarus, so it's realistic in my opinion.
