Thank you! That helps. You're sure it was a domesticated one? I believe you, just making sure :p I'll have a look there later, thank you.
-
*cough*anarchist*cough* :p Yup, you can go inside. No loot to be found, though.
-
Any idea where others may be? Those are the same two I mentioned. Let us know what you find :)
-
The two that I know of in Chernarus Plus do not currently spawn loot at all.
-
I figured as much. Just seemed weirdly coincidental to me that there are only two and they're fairly near each other. Haha my bad. It is a nice little area, isn't it? I hadn't really ever paid attention to it before, but it's a nice waypoint between lots of other locations.

What Evil Minion said. It's all a bit confusing. http://dayz.gamepedia.com/7.62x51mm_20_Rounds

You're too funny :p -
Looking around the map and... wait, are those like the Nazca lines?

It's referred to as the "Hill Figure" on the wiki: http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Hill_Figure I haven't been there in months, even though I've been at the NEAF more recently. I should check it out again. -
I know you're looking for individual scopes, but for now the Longhorn (scoped pistol) is the ideal medium-range scoped weapon in my opinion. It's stupidly accurate, fires a strong round (7.62x51), and has an excellent medium-range sight to it.

Anyone excited for the .357 Lever action?
Tatanko replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
That's not what I'm talking about. I was very specific in what I quoted. What I'm saying is: the loot spawns are different, persistence is different, and survival is harder (depending on the season). Those are fairly big things in terms of, as you put it, "survival logistics" :p -
Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?
Tatanko replied to Mr Sunshine Kid's topic in General Discussion
Excellent post, and I think this last part sums it up quite well. I think thus far, your post is the most complete and to-the-point. Other than additional discussion about individual elements of Chernarus purely for fun, not much else needs said in my opinion. -
Senchi just sent out a couple of interesting tweets: Anyone have any thoughts? I know a particular fellow explorer who may or may not have been investigating the underground parts for a while now (I'm looking at you, Weyland ;)). I, for one, think this can be nothing but awesome. I have complete faith that they will do a great job with this. My only hope is that we don't have to wait forever to get it!

Like I said on the first page, I'm pretty sure this is Dean's way of saying, "Senchi has said too much. We must silence him." I think that's what was meant by it. I think.

I'd like to think that they used that area because it's just a good setting. It doesn't have to be about laziness; I see it more as utilizing an excellent resource that is coincidentally local. Much like the folks 10+ years ago who used to design Counter-Strike maps based on the university dormitory or apartment block they themselves lived in. I always thought that was pretty cool! I think I will, too. I deserve it dammit :) -
So an interesting set of circumstances left my friend unconscious for 30+ minutes last night while playing 0.50 Experimental. He went unconscious, we walked away for a while to go get some food IRL, and then came back to find him still unconscious but not dead. Here are the circumstances: he was dark green energized, but was red thirsty (dying of dehydration). Just as he found an 80% full canteen and drank it, he passed out... but it did in fact complete the drinking process prior to him going unconscious (it said so). He wasn't bleeding, but he was pretty low on blood. Under these circumstances, will a player remain unconscious -- but alive -- indefinitely? I know what it would take for him to revive on his own (good health, not bleeding, etc.) and I know what it would take to get him awake and back into good health were I to rescue him. I'm just curious as to whether or not a character facing these circumstances can remain in a "coma", if you will, until they are rescued, The main reason for my curiosity is actually this: when you're unconscious, does your character not consume resources (water and energy)? That's the only explanation I have for someone being able to remain unconscious for such a long time. Either that, or the consumption is so low that it's almost negligible. This would be particularly true in the build of 0.50 we were playing, where the energy and water consumption is jacked way up.
-
Hopefully everything in the video is still true and correct as of 0.50. Thanks! Hmm. I think soon enough I need to do some medical experiments on my friends to answer mysteries like this.
-
Could very well be. I haven't had to rescue anyone in a while, but I imagine that would be the easiest way of getting them back up. Administer saline and essentially jump-start the character by massively improving their blood level in one go. Are you able to force feed water to unconscious players (I've never tried)?
-
So basically I'm not any closer to an answer than when I started this thread :p It seems like there's no way to really know other than to replicate the conditions my friend faced and then see what happens when you walk away from the computer for an hour at a time. Seems like a waste of effort. It would appear that as long as you are safe, not bleeding, and not dying of anything (red status indicator), you could potentially lay unconscious forever until either something external kills you (another player) or until you are rescued... or give up and hit respawn.
-
...but will you eventually die? That's what I really want to know.
-
That is normal, predictable behavior in DayZ by the way (what you experienced). I've just never encountered a situation where someone remained unconscious for sooooooo long and was curious what anyone else's experience might have been. I've heard of even longer waits than what my friend was able to stand, but it seems that ultimately, every story I read ends with, "I got impatient and respawned." Paging Dr. Guppy the DayZ Medic...
-
My buddy eventually got tired of waiting and respawned, too. I was on the other end of the map so I wasn't going to be able to revive him anytime soon :p
-
As they should be. Comes with the territory, and they know that. Certainly not. Other than major publishers (Activision, EA, Ubisoft, etc.) you will only see more of this. If it is done appropriately (read: not corrupt), it has the benefit of allowing for a bigger budget to make for a more impressive game. Major publishers have their own funds to make this happen, but crowdfunding allows for smaller developers to produce games at a level of quality that would otherwise be prohibitively expensive. Some of the best game concepts come from smaller developers like the DayZ team, and they deserve the opportunity to compete with big-budget publishers.

Is DayZ really set in fictional Ukraine?

The history of fictional Chernarus was outlined rather well by another forum member not long ago. It stems back to Arma 2, which is considered canon for the purposes of DayZ lore. EDIT: found it: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/206899-community-based-chernarus-history/ I would look at it as simply an "ex-Soviet state" and don't make it any more complicated than that. For the record, "cherno" means "black" in Russian, just as "belaya" (or the prefix "bel-") means "white". For example, Belarus = white Russia... Chernarus, then, means "black Russia". You'll see this theme repeated everywhere, including the cigarette ads you see on billboards :) -
Etiquette around people sitting by a fire?
Tatanko replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Nope. Speak for yourself. Again, I disagree. The best way for me to assert my dominance is by letting someone live when I could simply kill them, forcing them to live with the insecurity of not knowing who could be watching them at any given time. My mind is far more powerful than my gun or my ax. As per the OP: I would probably very cautiously join them. That would be the goal, anyway. As with any social situation in DayZ, there are a million variables that would need to be quickly assessed in order to make an informed decision. Generally speaking, I find that most people (keyword: most) that I approach in a friendly manner won't try and strike back at me, especially if it's a situation like this where you should have the advantage over the other person (it would take them some time to get up and shoot you or hit you). Once they realize that you COULD have killed them and chose not to, they are far more likely to be friendly with you, and this is probably one of the most ideal situations for demonstrating that principle. If I was pretty sure I could pull off a friendly interaction, I would plop myself down next to the fire and offer to share some food. Who knows what might happen next? :) -
Anyone excited for the .357 Lever action?
Tatanko replied to Whyherro123's topic in General Discussion
Whatever you think you know in 0.49, forget it. 0.50 is a whole different ballgame (unless they make drastic changes before it's released to Stable, of course). With that said, a lever-action is going to be a GREAT addition to the game in my opinion. I'm generally not fussed about what weapons we get (or if we even get any more), but since this is basically already confirmed, I may as well enjoy it.
