I know that's at least a little edited, but WOW is that a nice shot! Great job. It represents the current state of DayZ well, I feel.

The goats in 0.50 are just weird. Period. They were skittish and predictable before, but now they don't seem to care if you're like two feet away from them. I also tried hitting one with a sledgehammer when I was desperate for meat, but it didn't work... it was like I was swinging at air
-
I see you saw my post on the last page after posting this ;) While some things could potentially be explained better, it is just as much a responsibility of the player opting in to Experimental to take it upon themselves to become educated about the development process and adjust their expectations accordingly.

Oh believe me, I question the added value of this particular wear-and-tear to the game. I was perfectly content with shoes not wearing down, or at least imperceptibly wearing down (as in real life). I just enjoy a good discussion, so I play devil's advocate once in a while.
-
As solodude mentioned, it is definitely possible to survive without worrying about your shoes. You can run barefoot, even, and still be fine. Just keep yourself in good condition otherwise. Feedback is important, yes... but (and this is a big but, pun intended) it is important to be constructive with your feedback and share it with the understanding that nothing will ever stay the same as when it is first implemented. There's a difference between useful feedback and complaining -- and to be clear, I am not accusing you of the later at all, merely explaining based on your post.

Absolutely nothing. Enjoy your warped reality! :)

Getting familiar with the map is incredibly fun in and of itself, it should be noted :)

So do you also wear special glasses around in real life to warp your vision because it looks "kinda squished", too? It's not really a matter of opinion, the FACT is that your game is stretched compared to what it's supposed to look like. That's all anyone was saying. You're the one that felt the need to get offended. If you post content here, you are opening yourself up to criticism whether you like it or not. In this case, I was trying to offer constructive criticism and even went out of my way to say that the original reply from Rico was a little harsh. Next time I post something in the Gallery, feel free to tell me it sucks.

I'm trying to be rational here, but you're being a tad abrasive. Take a deep breath :) Okay, let's continue: 1. The mechanic in the game is only in its initial implementation. This cannot be stressed enough. As explained above, these initial attempts are almost always going to be cranked up to 11 because you get the necessary data and feedback in a much shorter time that way. It absolutely WILL NOT be this bad in Stable, nor the finished game (which is what really matters). Experimental can be brutal; that's just the way it is. It's not even really the "shoe mechanic" yet, it's more like the "shoe idea". 2. Lack of shoes, or ruined shoes, will not kill you even right now at the most difficult point in this process. Being in extremely poor condition and then causing yourself additional grief with poor shoes has an extremely small chance of it if you're careless, but AGAIN, it will never be even close to this extreme in its final form. If your character is in otherwise good physical health, the ruined/no shoes are more of a tiny annoyance than anything else. You could even theoretically ignore it (though I don't recommend that). This version of the mechanic, in its very first stages as seen in 125271, cannot be equated with a finished design. Arguing the merits of its realism is futile; most importantly because this isn't real life. Everything in this game has to be designed in the spirit of accelerated time and the effects of that accelerated time. 100% authenticity to real life is NOT the goal.

Right, but again, this is just the initial implementation of that effect which needs considerable tweaking. It will be scaled back, you can be assured of that. Once it is, it will be more realistic and therefore worthwhile instead of just being a burden like it currently is. You shouldn't be able to get away with having pristine shoes forever, but the current implementation is most definitely far too unforgiving. It's a double-edged sword. They could certainly do with reducing the frequency that messages pop up, but without them you'd probably get constant complaints of, "I died and I have no idea why" or "how did my stuff get ruined?!". We need SOME messages, but we could definitely do with fewer of them.
-
You're entirely misconstruing what I said. All I was getting at is that you should at least take into consideration that your game could look better (I'm talking aspect ratio, not graphical levels) simply by making a few little adjustments. Your game playing would in no way require any kind of adjustment, stop being dramatic. No one is being hostile or unreasonable but you, and no one is trying to make you do anything. Your attitude sucks.

I keep at least one spare pair on me at all times now. I try and find a decent pair of boots to put on, then stash some sneakers (2 slots) in my backpack. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal (and really it still isn't), but there is literally no point in caring about what you're wearing on your feet right now as long as it isn't ruined :( They've removed any motivation to find and maintain a nice pair of shoes (i.e. Blue Rock/Red Punk Military Boots for cool factor, Wellies for water resistance, etc.), so I just grab whatever is laying around. In my opinion, this is the REAL reason they need to slow degradation down. It's not something we need, no, but it is another element of immersion. Shoes shouldn't be indestructible, but they do need to dial-back the wear rate significantly for a Stable release. Hopefully they get enough data from a week of testing in Experimental to make that happen.
-
That's kind of a poor attitude to have about it. He could have been a little better about how he brought it to your attention, but you SHOULD care that the game looks weird in comparison to how it's supposed to look. There is more than enough adjustability incorporated in the settings of the game to fit your hardware needs.

I went on a date in DayZ. It ended stereotypically.
Tatanko replied to VIDEOSAUR (DayZ)'s topic in Gallery
This is too funny! When I saw how long it is, I was reluctant to watch... but this is better than an episode of a sitcom :D -
How much of DayZ have you experienced?
Tatanko replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough :p I wish that trip were still possible! (Maybe it is, haven't tried). Unfortunately, I don't think this type of poll (on this particular forum software) deals with percentages the way you're thinking. When it says "x%" next to a poll option, that means that out of the total votes cast for ALL options, it got that percentage of the votes. What it isn't, is an indicator of what percentage of respondents did that particular thing. -

This is an interesting poll. Good job! I'll be curious to see what percentage of respondents has done each of those things. Should give a fair idea of how well-utilized those mechanics are in the game. "Crafting a backpack" seems to be an early favorite. Agreed. As of now, there is zero motivation to recover your blood via a transfusion. The only time when you might need to recover a lot of blood in a very short period of time would be a firefight, at which point you probably don't have time to stop and let someone insert and IV in you  Oh but you can... "sometimes". The best place to do it is a fire station ;) 1. I've hunted and cooked food more times than I care to count at this point, mostly for fun. I also "cook" other stuff on fires, too (for no reason). 2. This is going to sound crazy but a buddy of mine will occasionally go on fishing trips in Chernarus. This usually only happens when we're both bored and have no "goal" to work toward at the moment. We'll head up to Prud and sit on the dock for an hour :) 3. I've only crafted a bow once, basically just to see how it worked. Don't have much interest in using bows anyway, maybe that will change someday. 4. Only just during this build of 0.50 have I made arrows for the first time, since feathers are easier to get now. 5. Sawing-off weapons is something I've only tried once each per weapon, just to see how it would affect it's characteristics. 6. Sharpening weapons I have done a couple times on 0.50 Experimental because of a relative lack of available axes in good condition. 7. I craft backpacks in Experimental a lot when it's difficult to find a good one. I actually hadn't crafted one at all until 0.48 or 0.49 Experimental when it became harder to get loot due to scarcity. 8. Twice I've found tents, the best being when I was in the empty area in the NW where the Tisy Military Base will eventually reside. I found three together in a row with miscellaneous weaponry and clothing EVERYWHERE. This was just after M4s were moved to helicopter spawn points, and there were like 10 of them laying on the ground with the tents. I took what I needed, and left some food and other ammo behind so as not to totally screw over the campers :P 9. I ditch zombies in fire stations ALL the time. It's the best. 10. I'm one of the few people who's been to Debug Island. 'Nuff said. 11. I've been lucky enough to spot heli crashes a few times, mostly at the NWAF and a spot above Bor. 12. I've only participated in blood transfusions a few times, and it was back in January or February in the early days of the Standalone. Just not worth it at the moment, but it was back then when saline was less common and regen. didn't work quite as quickly. -
There will ALWAYS be people with more time to play a game than you. Life isn't fair. It would seem you don't understand the concept of nuance in language, particularly when it's very important (like right now). Somebody who gets it! :) DayZ cannot be real life, and I don't know why anyone is deluding themselves into thinking it should be. Don't let the door hit you.

So the other day I was traveling north through the middle of the map from Elektro, and I came across a house I had never seen before in an unmarked little village. With 550+ hours into the Standalone, I was pretty sure I had seen every type of building there was to see. I then cross-checked the wiki, and found nothing. Google provided nothing other than one other example where someone came across this type of house in Mogilevka. From what I can tell, the only two places it exists are this unmarked village (071 083) and Mogilevka (075 102) to the south of it. Has anyone ever seen these houses elsewhere? Can anyone tell me anything else about them? They do not spawn any loot, at least not anymore (they appeared to a long time ago according to the one other post I found about it). Are they a legacy item from Arma 2 that just hasn't been delete yet, or what? :P
-
Spotted another in Kozlovka today. Also saw a similar-colored barn I hadn't seen before, I assume the case is similar with this in that it's an old Arma asset.
-
It's that time again. So far in this Experimental build of 0.50, we have the newest addition to the military family: a base near Kamensk (above Severograd) in the North.
-
Got to see the largest underground area finally tonight. I even built a fire at the bottom :D What's up with lens flare underground? :p
-
I usually see the two things happen together. This used to be a LOT more common, and in fact I can't say I've even seen it happen very recently. Must be uncommon these days.
-
A couple of versions ago hyperthermia was a serious problem and you DID have to travel very lightly. People complained, so it went back to more moderate conditions for the time being. In 0.50 Experimental, it's the exact opposite: keeping warm is more difficult. In the first build of 0.50 we saw (125144), it was November and it was incredibly difficult to stay warm without stopping to light a fire once in a while.

http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Military_Camp_(Myshkino) As of yet, they basically just picked the camp up (minus the barracks and other auxiliary buildings) and dropped it in the clearing west of Myshkino. It would seem they intend to make changes and additions to it as time goes on. Early on there were loot issues with the camp, but I don't know if they've continued.

Where is the other at? If you don't mind me asking...
