trucks are great but one thing is missing
Tatanko replied to Munson_fry (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
We really, really do need this. I always find myself wishing I had a way of getting people/infected/animal's attention with a loud noise (other than the truck idling). It would be nice to announce myself ahead of time as well, so that anyone who wishes to greet me/meet me/kill me can get out to the road if I am passing through a town. -
Today's surprise update to Experimental led to an awesome afternoon and evening driving around in trucks and playing with new weapon (Trumpet). Normally I'd just post a few pictures to the usual thread, but this deserves its own thread because it's too much to contain in one post. To get the story about me chasing a truck towards the end, see the story here. Enjoy! :)

Some Experimental 0.54 playing at night :)

I wish! 200% rendering is too much. It's the one thing my new PC won't do reliably. I went with a relatively inexpensive GTX 750 Ti graphics card though, so there's tons of improvement left to be made in that department. When I replace that with a 970 or 980 this summer and get a nicer 1440p display, I'll mess around with that. Best of luck on your build, let me know if you have any questions (best via PM so we don't get too off-topic here...)

I keep it maxed all the time now. I still dip to about 15 to 20 in major cities if I'm moving/turning quickly, but that only really applies to Novo, Cherno, and Elektro with all their tall buildings (the other cities and towns don't seem to give me much issue). It's "okay" enough that I don't bother turning anything down; even at its worst it's still better than it was on my laptop. I'm really happy to be playing in a more standard 1920x1080 as well :)

The magic hour :) Tip for you: the foreground of pictures will look less dark if you have your back to the sun (even if it's setting). Pictures look good regardless, though!

This. Haha! :P

I don't think atmospheric music fits the game, in my opinion. Ambiance (nature sounds, etc.) have always existed to an extent and are becoming more varied and more prevalent in 0.54. I do think having the option for radios would be good, like Steak suggested.

Musty Gaming Standalone (Actual Private Hive) US/EU(Hardcore)/AU
Tatanko replied to kichilron's topic in Servers
This seems like a community I could invest myself in. I DO have a mustache. Will there be free cigars and whiskey, or is it a BYO situation? ;) -
Correct! No editing here. Even if I dip my toes into the editing process, it likely won't be for everything, just wallpapers and that sort of thing. To me, there's an art to producing images straight from the game that show off the hard work of the developers; too much editing makes it into something else entirely (which is fine, if that's your thing). If I use in-game postprocessing at all, it's on the "Very Low" setting. I have nothing against its intended purpose of showing you effects (i.e. blurred vision with low health), but even when nothing is affecting your character the higher settings blur everything to the point of making me nauseous. The lower (or disabled) postprocessing looks more "real" to me as well.
-
Definitely. In my opinion, it wouldn't be worth doing until the game is released (or close to it) because in the mean time it could be in flux with every single update.
-
Interesting! I haven't seen that one, actually. I believe the one that I (and Mookie) are referring to was an in-game style versus real world photos. It would be similar to using free look on an empty map, but this also included street names and everything a la StreetView.
-
Thanks for the replies. About the StreetView thing: there was such a thing. I believe someone was doing it as a project. Don't think anything ever came of it, but I think you were able to look at a limited area (Elektro, for example).
-
I'll give it a look, thanks :)
-
I learned my lesson for sure  On another note, I will say that once you have one it becomes infinitely easier to find another (and heli crash sites) because of your travel speed. I almost never find just one anymore. Last night I picked one up in Pavlovo and in the process of driving north I found one in Zelenogorsk, one in Pustoshka, one in Vybor, and one on the main highway near Vavilovo... all of them had been left in the middle of the road, door hanging open, likely by other people. No bodies laying around and no engines running, though :p
-
My apologies if there seems like a repeat in a few of the pictures I'm posting right now. I'm re-taking a few for the sake of comparison between my machines :)
-
There really isn't any guess-work involved here. The picture that begins the status report shows 4 people sitting on each side (with room to spare).
-
Not likely that it was player-made. Those look like the so-called "loot-splosions" we were seeing not that long ago with persistence working weirdly.
-
Same here. I had to look really hard for my car because it's produced in really low numbers, but it was worth it ('10 Accord Coupe V6 6-speed).
-
More of us drive manuals than you'd believe, and more of your own drive automatics than you probably realize ;)
-
I hope not permanently :p They always increase spawn rates of new items for Experimental so we can test it, but I hope it doesn't make it past Experimental. Enough of those things spawn now in their appropriate places (hospitals, medical centers, etc.). Then again, who knows how necessary they might become.

Natural regeneration will still occur, but much slower. They don't want to remove that as an option, they just want to make it worthwhile to do a blood transfusion again. See the part I highlighted below:
-
Looking like 0.54 should be a solid update! Really looking forward to the new V3S stuff (passenger space, manual transmission) and the continued work on cooking. Also, the changes to the blood system sound good to me. It will feel more like the early days of the Standalone, in my opinion :)

DayZ Dev hints at possible DX 12 Engine, are you all willing to wait? I know I am
Tatanko replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
I put the word "cheap" in quotes for a reason. What I was getting at is that it is cheap relative to a similar Intel chip, which will do a slightly better job at running this game than its AMD equivalent.
