Then people would complain that they don't get enough in the way of regular updates. Community interaction is basically a no-win situation for game developers. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Please, stop building villages everywhere

Well, once upon a time we had a pig crusader on the forums known as Shrub Rocketeer™, but he was banned :( -
Allow me to explain, good fellow: It is my understanding -- and someone please correct me if I'm wrong -- that anything outside the boundaries of the map is unable to be "developed" because it's just randomly generated nothingness. Coordinates must still exist outside this area because your character is able to be saved outside the boundaries just like it would anywhere within the boundaries, but I don't think it saves anything you put there other than your character itself and the items they possess. I can confirm from my original journey that it is indeed possible to do things like build a campfire out there, and in general I think you can do most anything you're able to on a similar surface within the boundaries of the normal map. These islands exist simply because they fall within the two "directions" of the map that contain water. Go north or west into the debug plains, and you'll see random terrain for as far as you can walk that includes tall peaks and very low valleys; south and east simply have water to fill in the areas below sea level. There are many islands to the north off the east coast (see: Weyland's thread) and three that we know of to the south/southeast other than the one this thread is about. Hope that was helpful :)

Getting back is definitely the hard part ;)
-
Where at on the island? Last I did a big survey of the island, which would have been either 0.53 or 0.54 (after the "makeover"), there still weren't any. Perhaps they've added some more recently?
-
That's weird. I've used Imgur for over a year and it's never limited me in any way. I don't have a paid/pro account either.
-
That's freaking awesome :) Thank you for finding a method of making it easier to get there. When I went, raincoats were not a consideration... I wore an M65 jacket the first time and a TTsKO jacket the second time. Makes perfect sense. I should have listened to Gews when he offered me the same advice last week ;)

What I am henceforth referring to as "Paradise Rock"... the island between Krutoy Cap and Skalisty Island:
-
No idea what's going on here  You seem to have inverted resource consumption. On my most recent attempt to reach the island, I only just barely went to dark green energized shortly before getting there and had just recently become yellow thirsty as well. That's Weyland's video! He made an expedition right around the same time I did. Same week even, I think. I went on July 4th. He and I both got the idea from Gews :) The pictures on the wiki are from when I originally swam to it: http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Debug_Island It's a pretty small club, we would love to have another member ;) Odin is going with me on the next trip, too.. he's eager to join a small crowd of successful voyagers. EDIT: This is as far as Odin and I were able to make it just the other night:
-
Right. Imagine what the debug plains look like then envision a small, hilly island that looks the same.
-
Shhh! Just kidding :P I was trying to keep this under wraps until I achieved success, but I suppose there's no reason for me to withhold information at this point. Within the last few weeks, I've made two attempts. Both resulted in death by hypothermia, but the second time I was able to make it a LOT farther to the point where I could actually see the island. Odin Lowe even made the second trip with me :) I'll post pictures if anyone decides to call my bluff, but I don't have access to them at work right now. Long story short: I'm going to make it. I'm confident. I got so, so close the second time and there is still plenty of room for improvement on a third attempt. If and when I make it, I assure you that I'll post about it! Any questions? Feel free to ask away, I'll definitely share what I've learned from both past success and more recent failures.

At this point in the development of the map, not a lot is going to be added. We will get little things here and there like the summer camps, but there is only one additional town left to be added and it's a really small one. Everything beyond that is going to be reworking existing areas, examples of which can already be seen in the form of Black Lake, Skalisty Island, Gorka (0.56), Stary Sobor (0.56), etc. -
I had this happen to me just yesterday with NJ 2-18. I had been using it as my "home" server for about the last month. Now it either doesn't show up at all or it appears online but stuck in a restart loop. Not the end of the world, but still sucks because I lost a great camp :(

Another week, another gallery! This week, by request of igor-vk (@Igorrzilla) is the "big little" city in the Northwest. Click through to the Imgur gallery if you want the optional text. Enjoy :) I present Novaya Petrovka: http://imgur.com/a/GuUDJ

Thanks! Everyone who attends usually enjoys themselves. It's a nice break from the chaos

Yep, private hive. Musty Gaming. Going to be cutting it really close with any kind of update to Stable. At this point it's going to be a challenge to gather much in the way of supplies if I've only got a few days' notice, but that's exactly what happened last month so it's not a huge deal I guess. I'm hoping we get 0.57 to Stable prior to the event (read the Status Report if you haven't already) but we shall see.

Love this idea. If we can get a guitar and a deck of cards, leisure time in DayZ will be hugely improved :)

We absolutely MUST have a radio at this event!! :) http://www.dayztv.com/video/dayz-standalone-radio/

DayZ: Paranoia and Altruism. A digital ethnography
Tatanko replied to Drewbles's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
That would be more interesting to study in my opinion. It always seems to me that when people are quantified with statistics that they themselves are able to see versus total "freedom". Not sure freedom is the right word, but I think you know what I mean. -
The real world awaits out in Debug Land.

Thanks! I'm hoping they give that sign a higher-detail makeover at some point. It deserves it.

What next development milestone gets you most excited?
Tatanko replied to ebrim's topic in General Discussion
If this were a couple of weeks ago, I would have said "cooking over a fire without a cooking pot." Alas, 0.56 has made that a reality. Being that they have simultaneously added barrels and all of the functions that come along with it, I can't say that either. So as a survivalist, the next thing I'm looking forward to is: craftable shelter! :) On a lesser note, I'm also looking forward to what they're referring to as "precise object placement." It will be a big boon to camp-building as well as my in-game photography. -
Your username is so beyond appropriate that it deserves an award. "Who is Kyle?" "Oh, that guy? I dunno, he just says things."
