I don't think you can roast a whole pumpkin. At least, I wasn't able to anyway, nor did I have any luck with pumpkin slices (did I mention pumpkin slices?). Not sure how -- if at all -- roasting affects nutrition. I would need to see the values in the game files to speak on that accurately. The tripwire isn't actually implemented, but for some reason the crafting mechanic was... confusing, I know, but at least you know now. As for your other questions: 1. Not sure it works yet, but you can craft a "larger" fish trap with wire and netting. Not sure exactly what we will be catching with it. 2. You can add resin by first crafting a torch and then walking up to a tree with the torch in your hands.

Kalle, I love your postcard style of editing. I know absolutely nothing about editing and have never even touched an editing program (except Paint, duh). Any advice on where and how to learn? You know I've got a ton of source material of my own, so it would be nice to learn how to do some basic touch up at least :)

Some 0.57 Stable, while I was running around Cherno: I was getting in place to fulfill a screenshot request for B) A few other shots from earlier in the afternoon:

That last picture looks freaking great! Well done.

Hunting is still in need of some work, for sure. The AI is still very basic. I think the end goal is to have the animals behave closer to the way they would in real life, and eventually sneaking up on them should be a valid tactic (or at least, one that actually works). Stealth doesn't work well for zombies yet either. I think animal spawns may be reduced in 0.57 Stable for performance reasons. They originally wanted to go without zombies altogether, but they included a (limited) number of them anyway, and I'm thinking they may have cut back on the number of animal spawns in the meantime to balance things out performance-wise.

Glad to see it's inspiring people to see what they've been missing!
-
Nope. Their goal was to be testing it internally by the end of May, and as far as I understand that goal was met. Haven't yet heard anything on when it might appear on Experimental, though.

too-easy is (appropriately!) right on the money with that comment. Dresses are the easiest source of rags. Grab yourself two complete stacks (and maybe a few extra) and be on your way :) I want to say feathers don't yet alter the properties of an improvised arrow, but I know for sure bone arrows are better and I'm fairly certain those do require feathers (in addition to bones).
-
Can I suggest one ammendment to your "rule" about living off the land? Find or create enough rags for an improvised rope first. There's no way to create rope from nature just yet except guts, and if you want to go hunting you'll need a ranged weapon first. It's 6+6 (so, 12) rags for a rope. Grab a couple extra in case you start bleeding, and then head straight for nature ;) One thing about the hand drill kit for starting fires: as of 0.57, only oak bark will work. Birch bark can be used as kindling, but it cannot be used to create a hand drill kit.

Thanks! Hoping I have more to add to it soon from 0.58 :)

It hasn't been commented on since January I believe, but world containers were a goal for Q2 (which ends at the conclusion of this month). I doubt we'll see them on Stable by then, but maybe in 0.58 Experimental. My guess is that this was something waiting on the new inventory system, and we're beginning to see that new system in 0.57 -- so it can't be too far off now, unless it's still dependent on another new system that hasn't been added yet. Similarly, I think we'll begin to see vehicle inventory (and parts/maintenance) very soon as well.

Exactly! Also, the game has changed so much in this regard that even if you play regularly, you would miss a few things even if you were paying attention. Many of these things (i.e. improvised rope) weren't even announced by the developers, somebody simply figured it out and shared it with the community. Everything I've discussed in the guide works in 0.57, including the improvised rope. Lard isn't necessary, as water can be used instead, but it's a functioning option now (where before it didn't work, you had to have water in the pot). I don't believe the small guts are yet useful for anything. I'll have to check.

On to the first major city added in the Standalone. This week, Svetlojarsk: http://imgur.com/a/ngSIV

After receiving a lot of requests for it, I've added an "Advanced Configuration" section to the guide. Enjoy!

Now that you mention it, I don't see it. I originally read the SR from the main site (not the forum post) and it had an "Edit" added on to the beginning of the post that mentioned infected spawning in limited numbers. Now it's not there... Not sure why.
-
Hoping for an answer about animals also. I understand that zombies will be present in limited numbers (per the SR), but what about animals?
-
Blame GaryWalnuts ;) That is a great little spot. I didn't know about it until he showed me the other day.
-
Which list is that? The one for scavenging?
-
Bones, steaks, and guts in the picture. You don't actually get a pile of guts from skinning a player, but I added it for effect :P
-
I went and gave cannibalism its own section :D
-
Funny you should mention that... I honestly, genuinely -- for just a moment -- considered putting cannibalism in the "Hunting & Trapping" section ;)
-
Didn't happen, really. Many were unable to attend at the last minute, so I simply invited everyone who planned on attending to join me on Experimental that evening ;)
-
That's up in Nagornoe. GaryWalnuts found that spot for me and posed for pictures! You just want to see pictures of yourself up there in front of everyone ;) I considered that, and I have all of the information necessary to do so, but it would be a massive undertaking that I'm not sure I want to get involved with right now. That would be a lot of picture taking, a lot of writing, and it would be a challenge to organize and present the content in a way that would be easy to use. Someone else can feel free to do that, but for now I've stuck to explaining what's possible and directed those who are curious over to the wiki page for crafting, which should be getting an overhaul in the next week or so as part of the 0.57 Stable release. Thank you for your feedback; those are some great ideas. I'm just a bit burnt out from everything I've been doing lately and the last thing I need is another huge project. Maybe when I get back from my beach vacation next month  Yup! It's been "broken" a few times where it hasn't worked properly, but that is an intended (and usually working) mechanic. If you roast fruit or vegetables first, you can collect seeds with your bare hands as well, but you'll get fewer of them.
-
Thanks! :) Hopefully people will find it helpful as survival expands in 0.57. Can't wait until I'm able to add recipes, herbal medicine, and improvised shelter to the list!
