The "Trippy" filter is a bit much for me, but it's what started the whole thing so I had to see what it would look like :p
-
I will help you make this happen, absolutely.

First! :P Good discussion of loot distribution from Hicks. That was very insightful and nice to hear that it is constantly being iterated upon. But what I'm really excited to read is this: BOATS!!! :)

A compilation of my adventures in the most recent build (July 17th) of 0.58 Experimental. Enjoy :) http://imgur.com/a/yHDQ3

They're almost magical now :p

Only guns where this would be possible in real life, but definitely. Definitely, definitely this. Other areas of the map, too. Let's go one step further: give us a full wet suit. Give us a handcar! Planned. Planned. Planned. Also, more flora and fauna on Skalisty. This absolutely needs to happen, and I'm confident it will.

Introductory GUIDE to the Improvised Bow and Archery Mechanics
Tatanko replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
Awesome guide, Flim! This is an area of the game that gets neglected by the vast majority of players, and I think a big part of that is not understanding how to use them effectively. I will freely admit that I know very little about being skillful with this weapon. Oh, and check your PMs ;) -
It does seem to have maybe been intentional at one point to serve that purpose. No way of knowing without asking Senchi.

It's almost like we have this place... where we can look up things we don't know... ^_^ http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Grass_Pyramid

I'm a big advocate for saving your pennies towards a gaming rig :)
-
Money well spent, I say :) Thank you, sir! I'm quite fond of including the V3S in pictures :p

Never satisfied, I've added another section to the guide: "Depth." I've also added a cool trick to the "Lighting & Weather" section.

An outdoor cinema would be freaking cool! :)

Glad it worked for you. Enjoy your prettier visuals ;)

I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but running at higher settings can actually help. I'm by no means an expert on the matter, but I believe it has something to do with shifting the use of resources between the CPU and GPU in a manner that's more optimal to their capabilities. Try it, it can't hurt -- just go back to the old settings if it's worse. As others have explained, the game is about as far from optimized as it could be at this point in the development process. As it is now, the game performs best with a quad-core Intel CPU + Nvidia GPU. The reason for this is because of the strong single-core performance of Intel CPUs versus their AMD equivalents, which tend to be lower clock speeds but a higher number of cores. Not saying you should run out and buy a new mobo and CPU, just trying to give you a little insight into why your performance isn't fantastic right now. It WILL get better as the game becomes better at using multiple cores (and hyperthreading), but it will be more towards the end of the year.

Great ideas in this thread! It would be another nice little touch for immersion, and could affect looting strategies. I like it.

TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
Tatanko replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
This has to be a big part of it. It's totally possible that Windows 10 is more efficient in its use of resources, leaving more for the game to use. Never before now have I heard anything about Windows 10 making a noticeable difference in game performance, though. -
Recently, I got together with BleedoutBill and Odin Lowe to see what we could do with some chemlights. There was a theme of course, and the end result is this album celebrating the American holiday of Independence Day (or as we refer to it, simply "the Fourth of July"). Odin was a good sport despite not being American himself. Thanks guys! Enjoy everyone :)

I'll do my best to translate the dev-speak for you since I have a decent understanding of what's being said: "During our in house testing we didn't catch some circumstances leading to not clearing character properly from scheduler's array of active characters. This issue was especially triggered by respawning and in some cases by disconnecting from the server." --What Peter is saying in this section is that (limited) internal testing prior to release was not sufficient, likely in sheer number of players, to make this issue appear. You can only have so many people doing the testing internally, and every once in a while issues require a large number of people in order to rear their ugly head, something that is only possible by releasing to Experimental or even Stable depending on what exactly the issue might be. "After some time the scheduler array become partially populated by ghosts and newly connected or respawned players were forced to live outside of it. As scheduler wasn't aware of their existence it didn't processed core updates for them. Fortunately now it's fixed, tested and ready to go so I hope you'll don't experience such issues soon." --I'm taking some liberty in explaining this one, but I'll do my best. Firstly, the "scheduler" (I'm guessing) is a program or script within the game that handles events, player status, and other functions that need to be automated based on a schedule. What he's saying is that, somehow, the scheduler became "full" in the sense that it couldn't handle any more tasks; whenever a player connected to the server or died and respawned, there was no capacity within the scheduler to handle that additional character and their needs. What this means is that the character wasn't being updated because the scheduler has no idea they exist, since it was already at capacity. The reason it was at capacity was because, for whatever reason, it wasn't "dumping" old characters from the scheduler, it just kept filling up with new ones until it had no more room. Does that make any sense at all? In trying to explain it, I feel I may have gone overboard and made it just as hard to understand :|

You're spot on, ColdAtrophy.

Thanks guys! :) I'm not much of a photographer IRL, but I'm getting better at it thanks to doing this screenshot thing all the time. Here's an example from last week when I was on holiday at the beach: See the similarities? :P Taken with my phone, by the way, and no editing.

Love that first shot! A few from my time in Dubky tonight:
