    DayZ in 2021

no point wiping if youre not wiping the characters as well. else everyone will be max pocket slots with two field bags and high cap vest full of high tier rifles. or 1000+ nails and all tools logged off in the area they will rebuild their base in as soon as the wipe is completed. no one likes to lose their character to things outside their control, and while i dislike the pvpfest that happened prewipe it will most certainly happen again when it doesnt matter if you survive or not, which does give some incentive to practice gunplay for those who are more survival oriented. infrequent full wipes are a good thing.

    Ballistic Helmet vs Gorka Helmet?

I was watching a video a few days ago where someone took a shot to the dome wearing a visor'ed gorka and he lived to tell about it. He went down but with a bandage from a buddy he was on his feet and really grey. The helmet was destroyed in the process but the player did live as apparent by his video.

Ballistic helmet + gas mask = not compatible. Why?

In reality the gas masks that come standard issue in the military are made to be worn with the kevlar helmet. If you are in an instance where you need to put on your gas mask because shit went down its probably a good idea to have a kevlar on as well. What good is being able to breathe filtered air when you can just get a round dropped in your dome?

    Best size squad?

Speaking from a military standpoint your standard four-man fireteam is your ideal for operation purposes. The general setup is a rifleman/pointman, automatic rifleman/gunner, assistant gunner, grenadier/teamleader, Between two and three fireteam elements you will have a full squad with each fireteam comprised of its own components with its own mission. Instead of designating one person as a sniper and leaving them behind you can have a full fireteam in charge of perimeter security and the teamleader will have their team adjust accordingly to fulfill the mission. From a DayZ perspective I would not attempt to operate with anything over a five-man fireteam, if you absolutely need to exceed that you are better off breaking into two smaller elements, i.e. three on assault team, two on perimeter security. I would also probably recommend against anything over an eight-man squad broken into two fireteams unless you drill constantly as if it were real life. Personally I think a five operating as two smaller teams so no one is without a battle buddy is the most successful in DayZ. Here is my recommendation for a few different setups assuming no one is dual gunning: Three man: Assault team: -Pointman/Scout (Semi-automatic rifle for engagements outside & sawed off with at least three snaploaders for building clearing) -Gunner/Assaultman (Automatic rifle or SMG for suppression fire) Overwatch team: -Sniper (LRS Mosin & magnum for close quarters if someone sniffs you out) Four man: Assault team: -Pointman/Scout (Semi-automatic rifle for engagements outside & sawed off with at least three snaploaders for building clearing) -Gunner/Assaultman (Automatic rifle or SMG for suppression fire) -Teamleader/Medic (Semi-automatic rifle or Automatic rifle or pump-action shotgun depending on your role) Overwatch team: -Sniper (LRS Mosin & magnum for close quarters if someone sniffs you out) Five man: Assault team: -Pointman/Scout (Semi-automatic rifle for engagements outside & sawed off with at least three snaploaders for building clearing) -Gunner/Assaultman (Automatic rifle or SMG for suppression fire) -Teamleader/Medic (Semi-automatic rifle or Automatic rifle or pump-action shotgun depending on your role) Overwatch team: -Sniper (LRS Mosin, Magnum for close quarters if someone sniffs you out) -Guardian (Semi-automatic rifle or pump-action shotgun and magnum for close-mid range defense) Squad option: Assault team: -Pointman (Semi-automatic rifle for engagements outside & sawed off with at least three snaploaders for building clearing) -Gunner/Assaultman (Automatic rifle or SMG for suppression fire) -Assistant gunner/Medic (Semi-automatic rifle or Automatic rifle or pump-action shotgun depending on role) -Teamleader (Semi-automatic rifle or Automatic rifle depending on your mission and intent) Overwatch team: -Sniper (LRS Mosin, Magnum for close quarters if someone sniffs you out) -Guardian (Semi-automatic rifle or pump-action shotgun and magnum for close-mid range defense) -Secondary sniper/Medic/Mule (LRS Mosin or Semi-automatic rifle or pump-action shotgun depending on role) -Teamleader/Secondary guardian (Semi-automatic rifle or Automatic rifle or pump-action shotgun depending on your mission and intent) Ensure everyone has at least basic medical supplies in case you need to perform self/buddy aid before your medic can get to you. I recommend at least a bandage, epi-pen and morphine at the bare minimum. If you choose to take a medkit with you throw in painkillers and a saline IV or a bloodbag IV. Operating with everyone carrying basic medical supplies decreases the need for a dedicated medic which you can swap for another role. As it was already stated this requires drilling and precise communication at all times. This is an excellent way to clear up confusion on comms. If you have a hard time remembering everyone's names use alphanumeric callsigns that are assigned before a mission i.e. A1 = alpha team leader, A2= alpha team pointman, B=1 bravo team leader etc. Also, if you want a real challenge do this with proxy on and using walkies instead of an external program. Although it puts you at a disadvantage its very interesting.

    Character Wipe?

Recently I had just finished the kit I had painstakingly put together, met with my buddy and prepared to head north for some player interaction (and I don't mean KoS). We met our unfortunate demise in the form of a speed hacker (and immediately afterwards with another hacker on another server when respawned). I was naturally a bit upset that I had lost my gear to cheating but after the initial frustration had passed I was informed that with the Wednesday update there was likely to be an entire character wipe for all hives so the death didn't matter as much. I would like to know if this is true before I begin making a serious attempt at another character's long term survival (and creating their story, which is the longest part), if so I'll have a much more lax approach if it isn't going to matter in a few days. I appreciate the information, best of luck to those that are still alive.

    Character Wipe?

I am aware of that, I don't see why you had to be rude and jump to the "well there's the door" schtick; I have been an avid player for a long time and am not unfamiliar with losing my character, I simply asked a question as to whether it would be worth it to even bother until after Wednesday. I already stated that I have no issues dying legitimate deaths but it is frustrating to spend the time to start over in approximately one day. The issue has since been clarified. *EDIT* Didn't respond to this post, sorry: That is why I headed over here to see if it was common knowledge, it was a rumor that I needed clarification on, and I appreciate your help with that. *RE-EDIT* Question has been answered, please close.

    Ghillie suit discussion.

Experience: Recently I completed a full Ghillie set (headwrap, gunwrap, full suit) but I was unfortunately killed by someone speed hacking while lying in prone before I got to use it effectively, but some notes for it. -Spray painting does indeed work, be sure you use green before black if you're planning on going mossy (I'd recommend just straight green as it blends in with more environments). If you're still having trouble with it you may need to drop it and spray it while it is not in your inventory. -Wear a green vest, as someone else pointed out the black ones tend to bug through the ghillie and it is REALLY obvious. -Having Ghillie in any way, shape or form WILL get you killed on sight. People are afraid of other people, mainly because no one wants to lose their hardened survivor and their gear. If you're spotted you will likely be killed before any interactions can take place. I would suggest not creating the Ghillie set until you have enough materials to make it all in one go, having pieces (lets say just the headwrap) is still a red flag and you will likely be killed on sight. Make the entire set at once when you're ready to ditch your pack. -Be sure to stick with rifles and spray them green, as well as your fire axe or consider swapping it for a woodcutter axe (handle blends better). Even with the gunwrap the metal finishing on default rifle models sticks out badly, go green or camo pattern. -As someone had pointed out already the suit isn't as important as the head and gunwrap if you're sniping (since your legs will be hidden for the most part), but the full set is definitely fun. -From what Ive seen TTskO blends much better with the green ghillie but, as someone stated, isn't waterproof like the Gorka. Its a tough decision to make, but for either set you choose I'd recommend at least wearing green wellies, they will blend and at the very minimum they will at least keep your feet dry. -Bring an empty backpack with you and throw your suit in the pack when you're on the move to prevent overheating and flagging yourself. When you're within say 200m of your AO throw your set on and drop your pack. Obviously choose a pack that will blend with your environment. You can also throw some minor supplies in the other pockets to allow you to stay put for longer. Items I would recommend is a little food/water (I *THINK* canned peaches are currently the best overall option), a set of guts (used as a heating device), sewing/leather kit, and a stack of rags (for later when you're outside your AO to make a fireplace kit). If you went for the full bodysuit you will generally stay very warm or hot, so try to keep to colder servers, conversely if you went for the bushrag stick to warmer servers. Temperature is your main enemy when you're sitting around in your ghillie. If you choose to go without a backpack at all, always stick to the treelines (obviously) and move slowly and deliberately, you need to maintain a safe temperature at all times -Practice playing without a backpack (except for optional ghillie storage as listed above), the better you can sustain yourself without one the better off you will be when you opt to go ghillie. This will lead you to often make tough choices about what to take and what to leave behind and you may end up leaving valuable stuff behind that is not conducive to your survival. Start out with one early to help you hoard the stuff needed for the set, but try to always have empty space. It is very hard to ditch a pack once you've filled it with all sorts of goodies you want to keep, you're better off keeping the slots open or filled with expendable supplies so you can drop it when you have to with minimal contemplation and inventory tetris. It also wont be of any loss to your character if you use the method above and for whatever reason you need to book it out of the area and don't have time to drag your pack with you. As with any character type really having protector cases is very valuable and can give you some leeway with keeping stuff. -Should be obvious but if you engage with someone you should move, once they have an idea of your location they will start to zero in, be an inconspicuous bush a little off the location of your last shot to keep them guessing. -Play on night servers, it will dramatically increase your odds of not being detected and allows you to be much closer in proximity to your AO without fear. If I think of anything else I will let you know.

    Character Wipe?

Thanks for all the replies. Mainly because if I am going to put forth the effort I want to know it wont be in vain. I do have plenty of fun as a naked bambi because loot is exciting then and player interactions are easier (but you still get KoSed anyway). I don't have a problem dying a legitimate death but losing to a wipe is disheartening. A random player I encountered while a naked bambi. We were looting the same house and we started talking. Four people ended up just bullshitting inside this house and two had talked about the wipe before our civilized meeting devolved into pantsless fistycuffs. Fair enough.

    Recently returned to DayZ

So I recently came back to this game after a long hiatus. I spawn as a fresh, cold, hungry bambie. No idea where I spawned but I see one of those empty two story logging/warehouse buildings not too far off. So I bolt over while popping my battery into my flashlight out of habit. A zombie sees me and I'd normally run while naked but I see a taloon backpack on the second floor as I stepped up the stairs, a great way to start my character's run. The Zed runs up after me and I'm backed into a narrow walkway with no way around, so I throw up my fists and begin to rocky balboa the flailing zombie when I hear a voice ring out nearby. Its an armed player on the first floor saying to step away from it so he can get a shot. I step away but there is no way around so its hard to break contact. Instead I just resume punching out the zed's rotting teeth. After a grueling battle of fistycuffs I stand victorious, though a little bloody. I strip off my shirt, tear it to shreds and staunch my wounds. The player asks if I need anything, any food or a basic weapon. I try to communicate that I do not need anything, though I appreciate the offer. For whatever reason he says he can't understand me, so I step a few paces away throw my arms to my side and wiggle, the classic loldunhurtmeh dance and then claim my well earned empty taloon backpack when I hear the crack ring out. You Are Dead Came back after something like ten months away; killed as a shirtless, empty pocketed (except my amazing flashlight), and empty backpack sporting bambi. Didn't time it but definitely under ten minutes. Oh DayZ, how I've missed you :D

For free: Canteens x3 (damaged x2, worn x1) PU Scope x1 (Pristine) Rice x1 [100%] (Pristine) Mode: Regular *EDIT* I realized how sketch that probably looks so let me expand. I recently returned to DayZ after a long hiatus and have spent most of my regular character's life putting together improvised hunting equipment and hunting for animals (I found and killed one cow so far). There is some equipment I have found that are normally things I wouldn't pass up but at the same time I don't plan to use them. So they are free, to anyone who wants them. You can come with your guards and friends or whatever you like, as far as weapons all I have are two axes and an improvised bow. I don't know the damage of the bow but it took me three arrows in the broadside of the cow to kill it.

    Give Medkit more slots

I'm against anything that gives players even more unnecessary inventory space. Inventory space is a crutch that allows you to forgo the planning and foresight to survive for extended periods of time. Instead of having to make decisions based on time, location, and status requirements you can just carry around a supermarket and firearm store in your inventory. Players can easily carry more than enough supplies using a hoodie, jeans and an improvised pack and still have some empty slots. I'd say 95% of the players are hoarders and will have their packs and pockets brimming with beans, bullets and band-aids they will likely be gifting to another player upon their death and will never even have touched them. Less slots will make the game tougher, especially when you start to need other items to stay alive - such as campfire and cooking components. Think long and hard, do you really need those two extra stacks of ammunition even though you already have more than enough? Or perhaps you should drop it for an extra portable gas stove fuel can so you can gorge yourself on seared meat and fresh boiled water tonight with enough fuel left over for tomorrow. Decisions, decisions.

    Reloading priority

The SKS is my primary, I don't really even bother picking up other weapons unless I have nothing or I am transporting it to a bush or something to hide it from everyone else. The issue I am having is that whenever I try to interact with things reload is always the first message option that pops up. If I am drinking water at a pond you will hear me reloading like four times. It is most noticeable and troubling when I am creeping around attempting to stalk or avoid someone and I try to open or close a door and then "chuuuuukk chik chik chik chuuuuuukk". I never had this happen until I started carrying the 10 round speed clips. My squadmate does not have this problem with the m4, mosin, revolver, fnx or sawed off (don't know about normal shotty) Has anyone else noticed this or had it happen to them? I don't mean a few times a session, it will happen to me at literally every option and when you're under fire time is precious, I can't be wasting seconds having to scroll every single option every time. I'm trying to kick open a door to get out of the line of fire and I'm standing there like an asshat reloading a speed clip when my weapon was already 10/10. I'd like to see reloading removed from the interactive menu, you can already reload with R manually. Just isolate it to that key - we don't need two buttons to reload. Thoughts? No flaming please.

These M4 kids need to be dealt with.

You don't need to fill your pockets. You also don't need that big pack, all those cargo pockets or anything. When I wear clothes I use the improvised pack and its still more than enough room. Hoarding isn't a necessity, its a choice. I leave slots open so I can loot my kills on the fly without having to worry about playing tetris to fit a 2 slot item. When/if item weights/fatigue make it to stable I'll be that guy still running with unlimited sprint. The more you know the less you need. This ....What? You named off rifles, not shotguns. Besides the AR15 is the civilian equivalent of the military M4 hence why its the exact same caliber with the same features minus the three round burst option. Most common shotguns come in 12 or 20 gauge, why you think that the rifles you named off are shotguns is beyond me. At first I thought maybe you made a mistake but you clearly replied to me talking about shotguns.
  22. People have made their point that they either agree or disagree with your playstyle, everyone just needs to leave it at that. Coming to the forums to war will never, I repeat, never change a player's current play style if thats what they enjoy. You're wasting your time trying to prove one or another wrong. You may think OP is an asshat for doing what he does, but maybe he thinks you're an asshat for not doing what he does. In the end everyone is entitled to their opinion, but there is no reason to keep escalating the situation - just move along.
