I wish that military gear/weapons were really rare
dethsupport replied to JAGTAG9606's topic in General Discussion
Super rare weapons means a higher disparity amongst players. Make the mosin LRS even rarer and the people that get their hands on it will be that much more powerful than all the little woodsmen running around with a makeshift bow and a stick carved into a spear. -
The same cannot be said for just playing with a group/clan because you're all still on the ground - even if you have a sniper/spotter he may have elevation but is still on the ground. A 100% aerial birds eye view is a much different situation and robs players of far more suspense, because as I said any type of cover but a structure with a roof will mean nothing. I can go prone behind a concrete wall and get out of the sniper's field of view - going prone behind a wall would do nothing against an eye in the sky. I am off as well and it certainly has been a pleasure talking with you. Glad to see things didn't devolve in a flame war - faith in humanity carries on for another night.

You gave them your money for early alpha access. They already have your money, they may as well slow down production - they aren't getting any more from you so why should they bother? Hate to break it to you but we sure are testers, spending or receiving money does not change that fact. Go sign up to beta-test a different game and see if they pay you. My guess is they won't, are you presuming that you are not a beta-tester then?

That alone is too much of an advantage. If you're on a crowded server somewhere like electro, cherno, berezino etc. and you see some doors open, a few zombies and hear some sound residue you can only assume that other people are there, you don't know for sure and that adds paranoia which is a key element to the game. By having aerial surveillance you remove that element, and if you have friends/clanmates/squadmates on the ground you could easily communicate the location of other players to them giving you and your friends a very unfair advantage as you can call out their every step, which direction they are facing, etc. from overhead where obstacles without roofs such as grass, cinder blocks and concrete walls which are normally extremely important will mean nothing.

Any Servers Up? Weekly Maintenance Started ?
dethsupport replied to koNtenT's topic in General Discussion
As stated in the game weekly maintenance starts at 0700 GMT = 0200 EST. No idea about an exact time frame, simply accept they will take as long as necessary -
I'm glad you can see my point of view, and I do see yours but even if they are slow it still gives you an elevation advantage meaning you don't have to deal with snipers which are a prime piece to the 10% I mentioned above. If I had a working chopper I'd just leave Chernarus. If I'm going to die in a zombie apocalypse I'd at least like to be able to read the street signs.

It is brashness to feel entitled to anything more. Read the full update changelog and be grateful we even get that much in a timely manner.

That someone who knew how to fly after the apocalypse already received a bullet in his brain housing group and his body was picked clean by the bandits.

Agreed. Things can always change. I just think if they add them they are destroyed and you simply can't fix them, but small pieces may be scavenged for lesser vehicles. Actually they almost have to be destroyed or inoperable, who in their right mind would stay in the land of the infected when there is a perfectly good working chopper they can attempt to escape with? Most would rather give it a shot and die trying to fly it than to stay and die to the infected. And lets face it, how many of you actually have the knowledge and skill set to macgyver a helicopter into working condition (probably limited to a few military air wingers or civilian craft mechs) with improvised/severely limited tools (you're gonna fix a chopper with a just screwdriver, hammer, pliers and a hacksaw?). This isn't Ironman, you're not building or repairing a complex piece of machinery in the middle of nowhere with a box of scrap. It is also unrealistic to think you have access to tools necessary to operate/repair a (most likely damaged) fueling line and transport the aviation fuel, what are you gonna do? Use a jerry can and expect the hunk of scrap to magically be able to fly just because it has a drop of fuel? Air travel will heavily skew the pace of the game as you are able to bypass all the terrain and move and high speeds. This game needs to remain slow and meticulous, the 10% adrenaline and fear cocktail you experience when shit hits the fan wouldn't be nearly as intense or interesting if it wasn't counterbalanced by the other 90% of the time that is slow and quiet.

A broken leg will never heal properly in real life without at least setting it. I am all for suicide but only if you have a tool to do so i.e. gun, knife etc. You shouldn't be able to just click suicide over and over until you spawn near electro, people are already jumping off rooftops to accomplish this, no need to make it even easier for them.

Having vehicles isn't enough?

Persistent storage containers; do you like the idea or not?
dethsupport replied to -MadTommy's topic in General Discussion
Actually you do get perma-death in this game. Your character and your precious gear that you fed to the bandits are dead and looted. Sure you can click respawn but your character is a totally new fresh character and your last character is still permanently dead and will never be back. Just because you as a player aren't perma-dead doesn't mean that your character isn't/wasn't. Sure you can apply your own knowledge as a person to the game i.e. knowing where loot spawns, how to navigate etc. but that doesn't change the fact you're on a new character. Need some proof? Each time you respawn you're a new little pup washed up on shore with clothes, a battery and flashlight having nothing to do with your old character except looks. Need more (very solid) proof? Randomized blood typing per life. If my new character wasn't truly a new character my blood would always be the same meaning if I died as O- and respawned I'd still be O-. That isn't the case as my old character is dead and gone forever. Back on topic - I say no to persistent storage containers, inventory space is an integral part of the game, and storage containers remove that piece. There is no reason you need to carry 600 rounds of ammunition, 5 full mags, 30 cans of food and four water bottles. Having to choose what to keep and what to toss will make the game tougher, especially as more items are needed to survive Chernarus. Survival items like the portable gas stove, fuel containers, cooking pots, firewood, stones, matches etc. having proper uses will force you to really think and have some foresight. Regardless, persistent storages are already somewhat in the game, you can fill a backpack with your hoarded crap and stash it somewhere. The frequent server resets are the only reason people don't really utilize this method now. Once loot respawns and everything stabilizes resets will happen less frequently and may save the location and status of items currently spawned which would make the current loot technically persistent - therefore you can probably leave a stashed backpack somewhere for weeks and its location and contents would be saved normally. I'm still against the idea of hoarding though - makes inventory management less of an issue which makes the game easier. -
This cramped quarters of this building just scream "bring a sawed off"

You summed up your entire post and every answer that will follow in the first two words.
-
Take option A for now Save option B for when the game is more developed.
-
Keeping it open should make it more susceptible to damage and when a compass becomes ruined the glass should shatter (not just smudge) and destroy the bezel ring.
-
Absolutely not, DayZ isn't about safety, holding hands and picking flowers together with no threat what-so-ever. Part of the magic is creeping around with the constant fear someone is grinning as they watch you through a LRS. What you're asking is to hinder the game's PVP by making a safety zone, and if that ever happened this game wouldn't be nearly the emotional roller coaster it is now and would be a step towards watering it down to "just another mmo"

Helicopters remove a large chunk of game play. Flying anything tends to be the downfall of ground travel so at most I'd like to see a few rare cars. Other more common forms of transportation could be bicycles, ATVs, motorcycles, maybe even small rowboats or kayaks. If people become too fast and too mobile it will skew the speed that the game is played.

No one should be penalized in any way for playing how they want to in a game that expressly encourages you to play how you want to.
-
CLP And a weapon will never rust if you take proper care of it. Never.

It was pissing down rain making the essential game sounds like footsteps inaudible. There were only seven people on the server and we both turned the same corner at opposite sides and came face to face. In a split second you put me down with a double tap from a sawed off. As soon as I went black I heard your comm "OMG shit dude I'm so freaking sorry, you just scared the shit out of me" I laughed, and loved it - DayZ is total paranoia No hard feelings man - best wishes and keep staying on the edge of your seat, its what makes the game great :D PS - If you looted my corpse read the note I wrote - It will give you a laugh PPS - Please don't flame KOS/Bandits here - take that crap elsewhere. This thread was admiring that one KOS that got me and shit his pants at the same time.

Agreed. Just don't break your leg

Its still a camera zoom that is more than enough to see distances. I can easily see players approximately 800 meters away if I have slightly higher ground with the current featured zoom. I am against the idea of binoculars unless we lose or severely hinder our current ability to zoom.
