    ballistics protection

That's interesting because when it comes to melee damage It's been proven that the fewer items you have in something the more melee hits it can take. I wish the melee science guys would test this! I'm almost always full up anyway so it doesn't matter:p

    Morphine spawn

When I set the map at DayzDB.com to display the spawn points for morphine injectors the only places that show are military barracks and office buildings. Is this an error or did they change the spawn locations? Does morphine still spawn in hospitals, medical houses, and the military jail cell? Those are the places I traditionally look but it hasn't been panning out. I only ask because I have not found a morphine in quite a while and was starting to wonder if it was something other then bad luck. Thanks!

1st person vs 3rd person melee

I too find it much easier to get headshots in first person view. Every weapon is a little different but with the fire axe for example I had to aim quite a bit high and right to get headshots when using third person view. Feels much more natural in first person. Hardcore servers for life.

    thanks guys
  5. Since I don't actually know how far into the apocalypse we are it's hard for me to say what is appropriate. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing a generally more run down environment. More chairs and tables broken or flipped over. Stairs broken like in the tenement buildings, but randomly applied to houses because after all, wouldn't people be destroying stairs in their efforts to make a last stand in their home on Z-day? Broken windows and doors, better yet, the ability to break them. Barns with their doors left open would probably become wind or moisture damaged at some point. What is the wind and weather like in this part of the world? If it is windy and damp that would accelerate the building/object decay. Just some random thoughts.
  6. Ballistic gelatin is a testing medium scientifically correlated to swine muscle tissue (which in turn is comparable to human muscle tissue). From wikipedia. It's not just some jello...:-/

    OK, now what.

Settle down :P I don't see anyone trashing dayz devs here.

    OK, now what.

how long has steam been down? I'm experiencing the same issue. if i am not able to log on soon i am likely to fall asleep from exhaustion. I need dayz stimulus!

There's nothing even close to useless about melee weapons. 2 or 3 headshots from axes, fire Extinguishers, machetes, pipe wrench, pick axe, bayonets in hands and many others. If anything there is a GREATER variety of usable melee weapons now. Use first person view and hit them in the head.

If it matters, I always stand up when I'm going to have to melee. I find that helps. I also backpedal at an angle until they swing then I strike once. I get hit much less this way. Maybe once or twice a fight, but usually not at all. I'm not trying to feel uber lol. At first I was skeptical but if this many people are having your experience then there's obviously something to it. It's important for any discussion to have both sides. My experience is no less valid then yours. Somewhere, one of us is probably doing something different and I think knowing those differences is important.

Like I said, they can tone it down if they want. That being said, I've yet to have them break my stuff since the update. Playing almost everyday for several hours on both hardcore and reguler. I must be very lucky because I fight zombies constantly with melee. It used to happen to me a lot more often but then I got better. Am I really the only one not getting ruined all the time?

I've been one shot by a zombie one time. I was on the ground and got headshot. That was my fault. I never made that mistake again. Since then I have been fine. I don't really know what you're talking about here. I've killed many many many zombies since the latest update and havn't noticed anything unusual damage wise. As for jackets getting ruined. Why wouldn't the things in your upper body clothing get ruined from getting smacked by zombies? They can tone it down a little if they want, but frankly i do not see this as a problem either. When fighting any opponent with melee you are face to face and they are swinging their arms and mouths around at roughly chest level. In game, and in real life, that would tell me to put important things in my backpack or pants if I don't want them damaged. I keep food cans in my jacket and an extra jacket in my backpack. Problem solved. Does it make sense that all 6 slots of a jacket inventory get broken at once when the ruin your shit code procs? No. Does it simulate the concept of not putting important stuff where it can be easily hit? yes. Adapt people. It's really not that big a deal. As for logging in to zombie death. Why do you let that happen more then once? Go further away.

    Really?

If you stop trying to find empty servers and dodging night time you won't have to deal with anti hopper measures.

    ZOMBIES

Why wouldn't zombie continue to follow you until you do something about them? That's what zombies do. And since these are technically living humans infected with some sort of rage disease it makes sense that they are as fast as you. If you don't want to be hit then do what the others said and zigzag, run in arcs, etc. But really...just kill them. Since the last patch you no longer need to wait for one of the axes to be able to kill them. 2 or 3 head shots from almost any of the melee weapons will take them down now. I've successfully used the pickax, machete, pipe wrench, and a few others. I've also heard good things about the combat knife for the m4. If you can't hit them in the head reliably in third person try first person view. I find it much easier in first person. If you can't do it in first person then I'm not sure what to tell you. As for going through walls, obviously that's not intended. Developers are saying they are going to lay the zombie clipping mesh down all at once when the map is finished. Something about keeping its polygon count lower, or something. I am no expert so that might not be the reason, I thought i remembered reading about that though. In the last month I have died to a zombie once, and that was because I was prone and was not paying attention and got hit in the head. I really don't understand how people can be having so much trouble with them. You hear them coming a mile away even if your view is obstructed.
  15. Also, a silenced gun will not always be truly silent. In addition to the suppressor you need to be using subsonic(low speed) ammo. If subsonic ammo is being used then you're going to have heavy bullet drop at close enough ranges to make your combat effectiveness go way down. And if you decide to load up with regular supersonic ammo then you're still going to have the sonic boom from the bullet after it leaves the barrel. In that case the crossbow will still be much more quiet. To sum up, with proper implementation all weapons will have their niches. I still believe the crossbow niche will be primarily for eliminating zombies and for hunting.

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

I just figured if they worked in the mod they'd be able to make it happen here too. I remember using a chart alongside the dots on one of the rifles I had obtained in the mod and it worked well. I hope they can make it happen. :-/
  17. If a crossbow is used over a firearm its because the crossbow is a quiet zombie killer.
  18. I'm not familiar with Rust mechanics. I'll have to check it out

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

Oh how I wish the long range scope had mildots. :-/ Rangefinder is nice but you can act faster with mildots.

M9A1 Combat Knife: The new fireaxe

Really? I will have to check this out. Can anyone else confirm this? With what weapon? Fire axe? What about zombies? Is it a 1 shot headshot on them as well? How many headshots to kill with the hammer, in your experience? I've continued to use the fire axe quite sucessfully, although it does always take 2 headshots for me. The first knocks them down and the second kills. I've gotten used to the swing arc so it's really no problem. I would be interested in any weapon that only requires one headshot though. Anyone that can say with certainty that another weapon does this, speak up!
  21. I don't know, Gib, I understand what he's saying. At some point you do have to draw the line. I'll reiterate the sleep example because that's the best one I can think of at the moment. I fully endorse DayZ going for the most realistic game possible while still being a fun game. Requiring sleep would undermine the experience, I think. That being said I really can't think of another example of "too realistic". So maybe that is the only example and I killed my own point. :P
  22. I hear what you are saying and agree up to a point. At some point complete realism becomes detrimental. That being said, I do not think a weapon's slow rate of fire should have anything to do with its damage. That was my main point really. I do not want to see a sleep requirement either. :P This would be where Taco should step in and reiterate some of his ballistics knowledge. :P My understanding is limited but I believe that in most cases of center mass impacts from 5.56 and 7.62 the bullet would not pass through and through. After initially entering the body the bullet begins to yaw, or tumble, and quickly dump all of its kinetic energy. This is why the wound path of a bullet is not always predictable. And because there is vastly more kinetic energy behind a bullet the damage will always be magnitudes greater. If I am wrong about that, someone feel free to correct me. I'm trying to brush up on terminal ballistics in the real world. The only thing a crossbow fired bolt, or bow fired arrow has going for it is the large wound created by the broad tip arrowhead. This can sometimes cause lethal bleeding in the near future after impact. I would never consider that to be causing "more damage", though.

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

I like that idea as well. As long as there is some time sink that makes it so everyone can't assemble their gillie suit in on their first day then I am all for it. I don't really care how they go about it.
  24. Fuerii

    Ghillie suit, rangefinder ?

I'd like to see some crafting system for ghillie suits. Perhaps you can make small contributions to the suit everyday, so that it takes some length of time to assemble.
  25. Balance of 'individual weapons surrounding damage, reload, etc should not be a concern in a game committed to realistic simulation. If something is slow, then it is slow. If it is powerful enough to kill in one hit, then so be it. If not, okay. The crossbow being slow is a reason for the user to replace it as soon as possible with a firearm, It is not a reason for the developers to increase its damage. The only balancing I want to see surrounding weapons should be based on availability. If something is going to be the last gun you ever need, then it should be very rare. I don't want to see everyone running around with m107's for example. I have faith that this will not come to pass. :)
