Things I immediately noticed about today's release...

Sorry about that. What position kind of position were you using for shooting? A bench rest? -

EDIT: ( 8/8 quote above is not pilgrim's, but foxdie_01's, I messed up while originally editing this post) Try shooting in real life... JFK... people, humans are not terminators. It's pretty hard to eliminate sway unless you are using a bench-rest. And with 12-15x zoom, sway is pretty much inevitable. -

That's 1) a really small knife 2) not 'in the boot' but on the boot. On it's outside, in a special pouch. -

I'd love to see someone running with a knife in their boots... ^_^ -
This is complete and utter bullshit. There is no such effect. People can eat human meat and be perfectly fine. In fact, folk beliefs run into the opposite direction. A common belief among tribals was that eating other people gave you their strength and vitality.. There's even a funny statue in Tarabuco, Bolivia, commemorating a past victory of natives over the Spanish. Yep. That guy has taken a bite out of the heart of his fallen enemy..

You've actually got it completely backwards, padre. Humans practiced cannibalism in the past. And because of that, we're somewhat resistant to it. Unlike cows - which contracted BSE more easily after being fed foodstuffs containing prions. There were at least ~200K cases of BSE in Britain, and so far, 166 deaths due to vCJD.. and that's after people ate tainted meat for years. Furthermore, it seems some more cannibalism (mortuary in this case) has led to development of almost complete immunity to prion diseases in a certain Papuan tribe..

I seriously don't get how someone can get lost in DayZ. Unless they have on leg shorter than the other and keep running in circles*.. There's the edge of the map. You hit it, travel in the opposite direction. It's impossible to not find towns that way.. Chernarus was a densely populated area. *interesting to note than in real-life, if you tell people to walk straight and they can't orient themselves according to a compass or the sun, they'll tend to walk in a circle..

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

So what about 1 feet off the target? Because everyone except the dude who has spent months of his life blasting away on the range is going to be a bad shot with a pistol. Is there some sort of background info specifying survivors are all pro-shooters or cyborgs or whatever? No. IMO, accuracy with pistols ought to be crap, on account of sway. Not rng based, but just sway. So unless someone shoots from a supported position, they'll be unable to hit say better than torso-sized targets @ 15 m reliably with rapid fire. I've been instructed how to use pistols, and also shot them in the past, and I can't really do better with 9 mm pistols. Which is.. well, pretty uncommon for someone in a post-communist country. Only 1% of people ever bother to get a weapon permit. Maybe.. 1/10 th of those shoot handguns competitively. Perhaps RPG-like stats ought to be implemented. People would pick skills they want, and if someone wanted to shoot pistols, (which are supremely impractical* weapons in real life) like Jerry Miculek they could put all their points into pistol marksmanship and skimp on health, medical, endurance... mechanical, etc.. *anyone who expects a fight carries a long gun. A pistol is only used by those people who aren't expecting a fight and for whom carrying a rifle would be impractical - like everyone in a civilized society.

Pistols are notoriously difficult to fire accurately. There've been plenty of cases of people blazing away with guns at a distance of a couple of meters and completely missing their intended targets. Also.. what dispersion is there now? Amphibia delivers headshots at 20-30m quite reliably. This ought to be toned down.. as it makes no sense that every survivor is a top-notch marksman. IMO, DayZ needs rpg-like statistics you would choose while spawning and which would improve with use. It'd allow people to choose what they're good at, give extra reasons for cooperation and so on.

Red Orchestra 2 has 64 player servers that work pretty well. It uses client-side hit detection though. I wonder if something like DayZ could be implemented in Unreal Engine. UE3 has maximum sized maps of 10x10x10 kilometers, but I've never heard of anyone running a map that big.
-
It's not 'effective range' if you can shoot like that only on the range. Can you even set a normal scope to compensate for the drop?
-
Dude. You know what the balistics of .22 are like?

DayZ is far more optimized than you think tbh...

Dude. Check out your FPS meter when you're not connected to any server. In the menu. It generally shows the same number as in the server. Server performance has nothing. nothing to do with what FPS you see in game. Why should it? The server just tells you where the objects are. It has nothing to do with displaying stuff. -
MP-5 is a police, not a military weapon. There is no reason for it to spawn in military areas. On the other hand, it should be found in police stations and the like. Not really. Remeber that Chernarus is a country which has or had compulsory military service, so .. probably 1 assault rifle per 3 people somewhere in storage. Czech Republic, after which Chernarus was modelled. So the most common weapon, by rights, should be whatever was in use by the army when they ended compulsory military service.Optics ought to be very, very uncommon. What do you want optics for anyway? Simo Hayha shot 500 Soviets with nothing more than a Mosin..
