What are your biggest concerns and fears regarding the near/far future of the game?
TwinSpire replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
I really hope it doesn't turn into what I have seen with the Dayz mod... where people have NV goggles, helicopters, heat scopes, c4 and junk. I really like the post-apocalyptic aspect of the game and would appreciate they keep some of the struggle, even moving about the map I think imposes certain decision making choices that is what makes the game worth playing. -
Lootable Buildings are Becoming an Endagered Species
TwinSpire replied to DarkwaveDomina's topic in General Discussion
Honestly each building should have more spawn locations, more loot types but less loot spawning. That way to properly loot a town you have to enter each room in each building. Not that I am complaining, I basically know exactly which 4 buildings in each town to go to, saving me a ton of time. If I need food, know which ones to go into etc. Medical buildings (pubs) shouldn't be the only building to be sure to not miss in any town. I am sick of seeing 2-3 items in the same spawn location to see whole buildings empty. I have never seen any loot in a room with a bed, except for bunk bends in barracks/jail. -
We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
TwinSpire replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
I was in a group the other week and they were trying to use a word... That night it was "pizza" If you ran into someone, you would yell "pizza" and then you would know friendly... There is your solution.. done no dev time needed. You could even go for advanced... yell "pizza" and respond "pepperoni" If you are a bandit... yell "freeze give me your shit" -
What kit do you run with when playing as a group medic?
TwinSpire replied to bigpapasmurf1600's topic in General Discussion
I have heard that vitamins might bring down the "healthy" status threshold... so less food/water will generate the healthy status and they would heal on their own... Not a medic and not sure if its true but vitamins if they work and well enough could be of worth to make better use of food/water inventory. Then again its not tough to find food, so as long as you get them patched up enough to find food you probably would be good. -
It's a game... does it really matter anyways? If it wasn't fresh fruit it would be a can of beans... No point to fresh fruit anyways... I never pick them up or eat them unless it is my first 30min on the character... they aren't that nutritious (energy) and could be poisoned w/ disinfectant.

This +1... some people's reading comprehension is baffling... Sounds like he called friendly, the guy charged anyways so the OP defended himself. No issue here, good instincts on the part of OP.

If you look at the video it is the mod not SA... Be wary of that site.. it seems to label a lot of mod info as SA when it is not (That I know of).

I have seen them in the barracks... bunk bed rooms.

The Ultimate Dayz Sa Quicktips Guide (Video)
TwinSpire replied to acapona's topic in New Player Discussion
Personally I would have liked explanations on the setting changes... I think you gave a tip to reduce viewdistance= setting... Why would I want to reduce my view distance=... Most every other FPS out there you want to max that out no matter what. Now if you had a compelling reason for the change I would pay more attention. As it were I pretty much said wtf not doing anything mentioned if he thinks it is a good idea to reduce view distance. -
Can't build in DayZ standalone... apparently it is in the "list"

Full Moon night servers are much better... Otherwise the rest do pretty much suck. Honestly in a real survival situation you would be sleeping/resting at night, since you could seriously harm yourself walking around in the pitch dark even with flash light. We take for granted a twisted ankle now... Just my opinion but a shorter cycle would probably be a good solution, or an official setting to filter on. -
The only problem with the assumption that people will bandit for food is that there is little reason to carry food to begin with. I usually have one can of food with me... when this happens I will have zero on me, all food will go right down the gullet. Personally I would rather see food last longer and be much more rare, in combination with a smaller stomach or have things like rice not so effective. This way people would want to always stock food just in case they can't find any when they start to go hungry in a few hours of gameplay. EDIT: Also the second anyone tries to tie me up I will attack them and either kill or be killed.
-
Another aspect about food is you can store tons of it in your body as energy. I think that really good video out there said a full 5k in energy will last like 20 hours running in game. If you are healthy and just don't AVOID food then you probably don' t even need to go out of your way to keep up.

To The North American Players That Are Scared Of The Dark

I find it hilarious that you have no empathy now that you are in the same position as those players you are basically bashing. Why is that, someone is put in a position others have complained about and instead of saying "yeah this really does suck now that I have experienced it first hand, there has to be a better solution"... They say... "Those complainers ruined my game, whinny whiners complaining blah blah blah" Blows my mind and when it comes down too it, this lack of perception is the core reason for bigotry in all its forms and most problems we have these days. -
In order to use the scope... 1. Put gun in hand 2. raise weapon (default key is space bar) 3. click right mouse button (do not hold)

Sort of silly idea... If an specific outfit was deemed to be "hero" what would stop bandits from using them to lure victims. The only way something like that would work is if you could ensure the clothing would be sooo restrictive to a bandit they couldn't use them. Even that has issues cause would mean Heroes would then be easy pickings as well. Then they would have to have body guards, which then puts you back in the same boat as before not knowing who to trust. Would be better off coming up with a universal and mutually destructive way to disarm and interact. Which also is nearly impossible... When you have 2 guys pointing weapons at each other someone has to make the first move in anything... that person is always vulnerable and will always be (well accept if that first move is firing).

Only solution for server hopping is limited characters to specific servers just like every other MMO.

Extremely Non-Fun Game. But Fun, Strangely.
TwinSpire replied to Cullis's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah its weird... When you talk about it, walking, looting, eating, drinking not much to the game but it is addictive. My first couple of lives kinds sucked... had only a crowbar for the longest time, bled out eventually just trying to fend off the eagle eye zombies. -
Noob keep reading about temps and cold status but have never run into a problem with being cold even at night... Is this a current status or one that is even worth bothering? Disinfectant spray? Is this even worth carrying? Most info I can find is about either not drinking it or forcing others to drink it. Some references to using it on blood bags and items you get from other players. I have found some canteens and have never noticed a problem using them without disinfecting (scared I will poison the water inside too lol) 1. Do found items need to be disinfected (assuming a player didn't drop it) 2. Do player items really need to be disinfected? Is it worth the space when char tabs or possibly bills are smaller?
-
Same with temp status' Water purification from ponds is good to know, I knew wells were safe.

You can't really tell when energy is full, there are 2 levels of blood/health regen apparently. Yes you are right you can eat more then you can drink, I think they calculated full energy will last something like 20 hours where as full hydration lasts 4 hours. The idea to eat everything is that it loosens up space in your inventory. Since you can store sooo much energy, may as well store it in your belly instead of your backpack. Sure keep a rice just in case but if you eat everything chances are you won't ever need it, just remember to drink a full canteen after rice or do it near a water pump. The cans of food doesn't give nearly the energy bang as rice but it does give you hydration which you almost always can use. You will find that once you get to a certain point, you really don't search every house etc mainly because you don't need to because of a full stomach and because you probably will be in more risky areas trying not to get shot.
-
Only think I would add... any axe is a great weapon against zombies... splitting and fire both one hit kill them. Yes with any other weapon you will bleed alot until you get at the circle dodge wack zed on the head technique. Once I learned hot to regen health/blood (eat and drink everything until it shows healthyhealing status in inventory screen), I died a few times slow deaths due to each engagement with zombies and bleeding due to not having an axe.
-
lol - Thats it, there are no gauges. At this point most status indicators are text based messages in the lower left of your screen. Low health/blood is indicated by the washing out or lessening of colors on your screen... black and white is bad mmmmkay.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
TwinSpire replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
noob but I don't understand how there could be ANY reliable way to tell a bandit from hero. Nor should their be... How would you tell friendly from foe. Sure looks are a good indicator we have that in game. Looks can also be deceiving. The ONLY way I could see would be if names were locked/unique allowing some sort of recognition system in game. This would have to be artificial since there isn't enough character creation to manually differentiate. Even then it would probably encourage KOS more since no one would want to be flagged as a bandit (leave no witnesses). Also it would be wiped out at death. Any idea outside of completely unique names and labels would be a waste since they could (and should) be copied by bandits.
