Temperature effects are broken since hotfix

I am effected by the getting cold thing (don't want to call it a bug yet), never went into hypothermia running around for about an hour, but constant getting cold/cold messages. Switched to down jacket, no improvement. Switched to a "Vylaer" server and starting warming up immediately, it was even raining. One thing I did notice was on the "Vylaer" (don't think that is the proper name), I couldn't see my breath... it was raining also... Have full gorka. Could be there are specific seasons that can be set?

A look at one of the new zombie models

Chris Torchia, a DayZ dev called it a Zombie, in the twitter post above, am I missing something? Maybe I am ignorant but the Z in DayZ would seem to imply zombie as well.

Temperature effects are broken since hotfix

Something changed... I played for about 30 min this morning, day, no rain, could see breath. After about 15 min went into cold status, with notice switching from cooling off to promptly cooling off. A few red "I am shaking" mixed in. Damaged radar cap, miltiary boots, gorka gear pristine, high cap vest. Switched out gorka shit for raincoat didn't seem to change anything but with 15-30 min difficult to tell.

    New Temperature System

I think its a good addition to the game for survival. Though I think balancing of clothing might be needed, or at least more thought given current systems and even roughing out future. Seems like most new items now require military spawns/gear, this bias if you will seems to be getting worse. There doesn't seem to be the trade off one would expect. This holds more gear, but gets soaked. This raincoat keeps soaked status but only has 2 slots etc. Right now, Gorka reigns supreme. You have Gorka gear, no worries about rain/cold, camo and good storage. There is very little downside to Gorka. The same was true before weather system with TTKSO gear, but in that case you could give up a few slots and use hoodies and hunter/cargo pants to have a civie equivalent. With current weather, especially rain/soaked, the only civie even close is the raincoat and while easier to find then in the past, it seems much less frequent then Gorka. I would also agree that starting players should have a hoodie or something. If this is USSR why would someone have just a t shirt while hanging out outside?

    Fire doesn't warm you up.

So far have had no issues with weather after getting gorka gear and a radar cap. Personally I find it pretty lame that they pretty much force you into military gear more and more. Before it was storage space, I would easily do with cargo pants and the hoodie etc. Now with what seems to be constant rain, you would be silly not to wear gorka exclusively.

.49 Anyone found a tent yet?

Tents are rare in .49 I have only pitched one once, and that is when I found a small protector case other other day.

    Crossbows being ignored?

Another thought would be to allow it stored in the melee side of the shoulder. So when (hopefully) the time comes when ammo is super rare, you can at least have a gun with 1-5 bullets but have your main crossbow/bow weapon available...

.49 Anyone found a tent yet?

Is there any point on non-persistence servers?
  11. dunno piano house still had guns, same with fire and police stations. The random open doors did throw me for a loop at first. I was running around as a freshy..."damn this down is looted"... multiple times... then I just got desperate and researched and still found stuff.
  12. Hope so, I have a ruined one on... I logged on and could tell was slowly getting warmer, then it rained and got cold again.
  13. Above are some guides from EXP, not exactly what I have noticed but pretty close. So far I can say this is pretty annoying more then anything, going to give it some time/a chance though. Being wet is a prime way to get hypothermia, which is cool (lol). It just seems the servers I go on it's ALWAYS raining or will rain within 15min. My freshspawn was very close to dying due to hypothermia, for some reason I couldn't wring out anything buy my hat (I could this morning). I also didn't notice any difference sprinting for ages... oh it would be nice to have a thermometer, like a compass.
  14. Will keep an eye out... just came back after a few months break... was surprise they were looting stuff... though everyone always seemed to only have wellies.

    The 'war on snipers'

The age old Sniper debate... Been raging in almost every PvP game that has accurate high damage weapons since the dawn of PvP video games. What is appropriate really comes down to what kind of game is Dayz... survival based or military PvP based. If Survival... at BEST sniping should be at least as difficult in real life by an AVERAGE person or one with marginal training. If those resources don't make sense (wind, sway breathing, gravity calculations) then dispersion makes perfect sense and I would say leaning toward "less skilled" avatars. At worst extreme ranges should be gimped like they are. No matter what the F you say you can do to counter, the sniping "gameplay" is NOT survival. The person "snipers" are targeting, looting a city are "surviving". So you could look at sniping as being anti/counter survival as a gameplay mechanism. So who would you "support" more, the person playing towards the point of the game or those that are not so much? If the game is supposed to be military PvP with some zombies thrown in, then more realistic sniping, ranges, skills make much more sense. I personally believe that I as a survivor IN A GAME should have a moderate expectation of risk in a situation. I can't be zig zagging fast to avoid snipers form every bush within 1000+m, then not able to clear corners for closer infantry risks. Bringing in the range a bit, makes it more accessible, allowing me as a survivor to scan corners and slowly clear and move through a city to counter other "survivors" not Snipers.. Sure seeing people at longer ranges is great... give you an advantage to move into a desirable position but being able to take them out fairly easily (and I mean more then top 10% of shooters in game) with a long range zoom one shot kill is a bit too much. There are some good sniper games out there if that is really what you want to do. Me I want to survive and not get a "you're dead" message from a black spec in a bush on my monitor

    Anyone still have a Mosin+Bipod?

I have one... still works to. Just logged in the other day after a long hiatus. From what I hear it would have been better to have a kitted out M4 (I traded one for the mosin).

anti-hopping or why it's useless for the moment.

no loot respawn is a horrible excuse/reason for server hopping... One question, when this magical fix everything loot spawn system appears... will it respawn loot every 10 min or something? Because that is the only way loot respawning could prevent server hopping on its own. If loot spawns every 10min... I would rather play happy no death lego LOTR with the GF.. Pretty much every server reboots regularly now, there is no reason other then farming end game gear quickly to "server hop" excessively.

    Lets Talk Camo

my opinion is that more camo is just to look fabulous... Maybe host a fashion show in bolota or something. Seems to me only in shorter ranges is "camo" actually useful and even then has to be pretty obvious aka don't wear yellow/orange rain jacket. There comes a point that people are just black blobs running around no matter what they are wearing. Movement is what gives you away more more then anything.

    Always in the daylight?

Because night really doesn't make too much sense. In a real survival situation you don't do much at night unless it is life or death. To dangerous even just walking, could hit a pot hole and break your ankle etc. Not to mention people gotta sleep. Its also not much fun imo. Many server run GMT so for me that means when I am home its always dark. No variety. Personally would rather see a modified cycle then "reality"... 4 hours day and 1 hour night or something like that so everyone can experience it but its not so much a problem that people want to avoid it. It would be cool to have to setup a camp fire... have time to craft/eat/rest etc.

WHy do we need Server restarts?

They will only stop when there isn't a point in them. Even if loot respawns automatically people will still reboot to get it to spawn faster. So they also have to implement server persistence through restarts.
  21. TwinSpire

    Remove guns from the game.

Hopefully they will not only reduce spawns especially ammo but also implement wear and breakage to make actually using then cost something as well. If they manage guns as a rare and prone to issues ( more the more complex like automatic fire)... Then weapons in my opinion will allow for more character choice
  22. That limits your exposure sure... though I have gotten my legs broken during a server restart... I was just jogging along in the woods, restart... log back in broken legs... good thing I have 3 morphines on me... and I use them!
  23. Pants right now are probably the most dangerous place to put stuff... I only put food/currently looted items in pants. The reason is because right now chance of random leg breakage (which ruins everything in pants) is high atm. It seems with the group I play with someone has broken legs each day. Pretty sure there are other pants bungs too like a few reports of bunks in 2nd floor prison causing damage. etc Anything on chest is considered the 2nd most dangerous spot (guess it depends on how many firefights you get into) since as mentioned most players aim center mass... Though at longer ranges this could hit legs. Pack is for the most part considered the safest place and even then most like to use protective cases for most important gear, like your medkit:) Yes having spare loose rounds in the chest area is faster for reloading but if you have any quickloaders etc as was mentioned it doesn't really matter where there are for speed so I generally spread them around, putting one in pack, one in chest etc. I tried to put a 60 round mag in protective case and it worked, but created odd duping issues when then corrected itself with disappearing gear. So be careful there.
  24. Zeds near looted buildings or areas tend to be a sign of server hoppers... I have seen only one prison looted at NW a lot, pretty sure it is a server hopper that loots the one building then switches server so they don't risk going outside to get snipped. From my experience it can be hard to loot all of NWAF without agrooing at least some of the zeds especially on the tarmack, they see you from quite a distance and since they are computer controlled are not fooled by bushes/camo etc. paper and batteries... no clue especially if the server just restarted.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

The way I look at it is... With out dean I think DayZ will become more like Arma with Zombies. I would guess the survival aspect would probably be similar to now pretty much a non issue finding food/water etc... With Dean that could still be possible but less likely imo. I have already gotten my money worth imo, if it becomes DayArma, I will just stop playing and move on to another qame in my steam library.
