EXP - Map now shows the players exact position
CJFlint replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
It is vary possible this is for testing purposes, in fact it is more then likely the case. Don't forget this isn't stable, its exp. Its for testing before stable. -
I currently play as lone wolf sniper pretty most of the time now. With the hunting and fishing now I pretty much am able to survive completely off the grid. Once I got the hang of hunting and cooking, it really is a good source of food, and beats searching towns and risking everything just for cans of food. Once I geared up I pretty much only go into to towns to loot items I really need, quick in and out. I'm in forested or thick tree lines much of the time. My reason for this is a really good one, because 99 % of the time I have been shot in DayZ SA it has been in citys or towns in an urban setting. So prefer being outside, up high shooting in LOL When I do pvp I make it as much on my terms as possible, my goal is to get the drop on the other guy 1st at long range. They won't even know what hit em or were it came from. If I miss or they are in a group, I try to have an escape route pre planed. The people I'm afraid of are hackers, because no matter how much skill you have they can quickly get to you and kill you. If I see someone quickly glitching across the map I log out...Fuck that shit! Stealth is vary much a part of the SA. I also think playing alone is much more challenging then playing in a group. I find it to more rewarding. I also enjoy having to plot every step, and really think about my game plan every time I play. I try to plan every move and have a game plan. I love it. But sometimes I do get lonely and miss playing with other people QQ Something interesting about stealth and camo I learned playing dayz sa. If your completely still laying prone in the trees or bushes in the shadows, your almost invisible. But one thing to remember, hiding in grass only helps you at short range due to view distance. So trees and bushes are really ideal to lay next too. When your moving your much more visible and easy to spot or hear no matter what. I learned this in practice. I have had players run right past me and had no clue what so ever I was there. It really does work. One thing not to do, is were bright colors. With a long range, I can spot people far easier with a say red mountain back pack. May as well have a shot me sign painted on them. Black, green or pref camo is the way to go. I use either the improvised back pack or hunters. Recently I had to go back to hunters because I needed more slots. The improvised pack I think is the best pack for blending in prone. Hunters is good too.

LOL This sounds like a great dayz adventure. I play 95% completely and have learned a few things over time to make my life easier playing dayz. Here's a something you should look into. Down load Team Speak, Over Wolf ect. While playing run over wolf while your playing. Over wolf is a really great tool to use while you playing any game really because it works as an over lay. You can open a internet browser and use it while you play. What I do is I have a "DayZ TV" map open in my over wolf browser. The DayZ TV map is a vary useful tool to have while playing dayz. You can find out were military bases, are loot drops, figure out routes, and even measure distances if you play as a sniper it is really important. Once I find were I'm at its just like land nav in real life, but you don't have to worry about true north or mag north. North is just north You look for terrain features, and use your compass to figure out what direction your going in and what you location is. Its not really that hard once you get the hang of it. But I will admit I have been lost my self in my early days of playing, its pretty easy to have happen until you get really used to the map. I look at having a compass in Dayz as one of the most important items you can have in your kit. Unless of course you play grouped and someone does the nav for you.
-
I for this idea, but with in reason. I like the idea of having as much craft items as possible in game as long as it keeps with the realism.
-
I understand the desire to add more realism to food and important's of it. In fact I enjoy the fact they have added hunting and gathering to the game. I also would like to see more realism and more detail. But if I'm not playing I'm not playing, do not think my avatar should suffer adverse effects due to this.

This whole thread is kind of pointless really. The reality is with in a couple months give or take there will more then likely be 3 long guns to chose from, maybe even more. The mosin, SVD and CV. The whole reason for this thread is because "Mjones" feels it un realistic to have a long scope mounted on a mosin or at least using the current method. The reality is it does really take work to mount a LRS to a mosin, but it can be done and they have been used as sniper rifles. It is also not most ideal sniper rifle in the world either. So I kind understand were he is coming from in a way, but its really not that big of a deal to me. Mjones I do not feel is completely wrong about what he saying. But due to the fact there is more pressing things the game needs currently, then to worry about how hard the LRS is to mount to the mosin, or weather it should be mounted to the mosin or not. The rest is just people trolling each other, there will be plenty of time for that after beta. Lets focus on real shit to make the game better in the long run.
-
Here's the thing to really consider here guys. 1)There is at least one sniper rifle one its way to stable that we currently know for sure, the CZ. There is also more then likely going to be an SVD coming as well. 2) In the modern real world, the mosin would not be the most ideal choice for a sniper rifle period. Its vary old and vary old tech, currently really only used on the battle feild by rag tag rebels. Don't get me wrong its a great rifle for what it is, but if you presented me a SVD with its 10 round mag and semi auto firing I would chose the SVD hands down. So would it break my heart to see it be shown for what it really is, an old WW1 era rifle, that was even a little dated then? Not really. Its also been nerfed already for clothing damage. But I would be heart broken if they took away all LRS....but this likely will not happen. All this is coming from someone who prefers a mosin playing DayZ because I like playing as a sniper. I'm saying all this because I would love to see better rifles put in game for this reason.
-
M14 next to the mosin there?
-
Look if we want to remove the LRS from being able to be mounted to the mosin, then there god dam well better be a another sniper rifle in the game with the ability to mount a LRS before they do it. Like the CZ or SVD. IF they do it. Then I could care less.

I completely understand were all of the concern comes from. Its from people spawning in right on you in a fire fight or from people completely abusing looting. Got it. I want this sort of thing cracked down on too. People using TS to tell there buddy's were to log in at is common SOP now, but it can be easily abused. Its almost just part of playing grouped now. On the other hand have you ever been booted from a server and had try another one then have to sit through a long timer. Or you needed to meet your friends on a different server and have to sit through a long time. Its a pain in the ass! So its a double edged sword. I really don't want to see more bull shit timers added. There needs to be some other way to combat it.

As of right now in dayz sa current state, I vote no for safe zones. I think the devs are working on base building, were a large say for example a "Hero" clan could set up decent base if they worked to together to hold off hostiles to help "Bambis" or survivors/ With that said this will have to be revisited in later builds. The reason I say this is we currently have no idea what the zombie situation will look like until will really play with the build and know what the final product to look like. So really I will have to see it for my self the decide So I have changed to lets wait and see, then decide if they are needed. One thing I have learned from this thread and playing dayz for 100s of hours is the fact we need to address the "Ghosting" issue one way or the other, in order for bases to even mean anything. Currently pn a high pop currently a base would last as long as player could hold it, then there own team mates would start dieing. Then enemy clans could simply spawn in one there location when they are weak and destroy or take over the base. This needs to be looked into.
-
I voted yes for camo suit, or a gilly suit. I would like to see it an item you can craft using burlap sacks, brush or grass and ropes...possibly. The reason I say this is most scout snipers make there own gilly suits so they should be craft able, just like the improvised pack, but with more steps. Also they should costume so say If you want one to blend in with grass you use grass or what ever surroundings you want to blend in with. Maybe also have pre made ones that are rare drops. I did see one DayZ TV they are adding more rifle camo options using burlap sacks which is vary cool. Just a thought.
-
I saw a video about this too. I think the zombies are also going to be more realistic to, they will not be able to go through walls and able to go stairs. One of the cool things that the video showed is in the future you can lure zombies into a room and close the door sealing them in. So there is pros and cons to it. Honestly I think if they are realistic, they just don't appear out of no where, able to run through walls....it maybe cool. Really I think I'll have to give it a try when the day when they add it and see weather I like it or not. It would cool if you could learn there behavor and learn ways to avoid zombies or even attract them.
-
But that's what clans are for, they each have there own rules which is player created and that they as a group decide to live by. It is not shoved down our throats by a game mechanic. That's how I want it to stay. I complete game play freedom. For the same reason I don't want a safe zone as a game mechanic. Just give us players tools what we need for base building and baracading and they can be responsible for there bases. I'm sorry but I really don't understand the concept of no zombie spawn areas. Really they only spawn in what once was populated areas......Right? So you could set up an area outside of town in the forest or something. ...or even inside a tech building or apartment above zombie agro. But I really think the thing that sets DayZ apart from other games, is the fact that there is no score cards or vary vary limited rules if any and its the players that make DayZ what it is. I hope it it dosn't lose that. I 100% agree with both of you ghosting is highly exploited in DayZ and there should be anti ghosting in place. That is one concern we can all agree on. Maybe later servers could have more settings other then hard core are regular. Were the person hosting could set how many zombies spawn, and different levels on different things. Not everyone likes to play the same way.
-
Ghosting is something that is an issue so agreed on that. They should fix or combat it more........What is a zombie no spawn area? You want no zombies move a away from populated areas, so it already exists....Not sure what you meant by that. Its an a game about apocalypes DayZ should be dangerous every where, if you want safety get a group and hold down an area. There's no ethics mechanics in game. So really you survive one encounter at a time, one moment at a time and every one you deal with is different. Otherwise you just end up being one of those "Heros" who is all on his high horse, yet shots anyone he thinks is a bandit (which much of the time he dosn't even really know for sure) and then gets killed by the vary people hes trying to help LOL Same thing with ass hat bandits too preying on new spawns and new players, because its easy. Its a hypocracy and it limits the game. These terms are just spill off from the MOD were players really did get labels and a score card. But in the SA it doesn't exist. So I don't categorize random people I don't know and really cant tell other then what actions I see. If they decide to put it in the game then I will. Unless they clearly are in a clan that makes it really clear what they do. Edited
-
Well with base building and blockading being added later down the roads, it would be possible for a large clan to create there own "Safe Zone" or base. This falls under base building. Also again there are "hero" clans out there that attempt to lock down areas to help fresh spawns and create there own safe zones. Another thing that some of us need to get out of the habit of here on the forums, is people using the term "Hero" or "Bandit" to often when there is no mechanic for this in the SA. Then categorizing players and often demonizing so they can feel better about shooting other players. Each player is who he or she is on a case by case basis in the SA, unless they make it clear they are Hero or Bandit or there group makes it clear. Its a fucking ZOMBIE apoc, there is no more rules LOL After I played a while I noticed ethics is a case by case thing as well. Its all grey really....If that makes since. For realism sake I prefer it stays this way. I want even more chaos and pandemonium for Pete sakes! The reason I say this is thread started of with the idea of creating safe zones for Bandits or Heros...well what the hell does that mean for the rest of us? Does this mean I have pick a side? I don't think it applies here, or want it to apply. Unless a player decides that's what he wants to call him or her self.
-
If you want a safe zone. Group up and make your own safe zone.......If you can LOL There really is hero clans that try to do stuff like that. It does work sometimes and sometimes it does goes vary south. But I do not think it should be a game mechanic though....at all. It should left up to the players to do. And even if there was safe zones added in this hellish game, god dam there would be bandits camping right out side ALWAYS! LOL Nooblets would go in get geared up, then be robed are shot by bandits on there way out LOL It would be a rest heaven for nooblets and DayZ highway men. I would never go <_<
-
Well regardless DayZ SA is a game without missions, steam badges, and a score card. Its really up to each player to decide how they want to play, its really what ever you want it to be with in the confines of the game engine. That's the cool part about it. So I don't like knocking other people play styles, so long as there not cheating. If people like RPing and feel being captured is part of there game, more power to them. Or if they prefer death over being captured thats fine too. If people want to play a stealthy lone sniper or they prefer being in a group or even run around like Morgan Freeman or how ever. Really its the verity of play styles and the unpredictable nature of people that make DayZ what it is and some of the encounters so interesting. There's really no right way or wrong way to exp DayZ SA I guess.
-
What playing smart LOL I don't care if you hate it honestly, If you don't want to cover your tracks ....fine. Being grouped you don't have to worry about it I as much. It is what I do when I'm running alone. Its seems to work. Maybe you keep your guard up at all times, that's good. But many players get complacent that I have seen. It's all tactics really.
-
I will have to agree that a player should wait to see what the other players intentions are in voice com, IF they try to make contact. There are some cases were it may be a "Hero" or "Hero Clan" and they really just want to check you out and possibly help you. Much of the time its not the case. When I encounter other random players in game that make an effort to show they are friendly, I keep them at a distance and ask that they stay at a distance. I really just don't trust people I just meet in random in game. If I want friends I make friends on Team Speak or Steam 1st. This whole thread is about being taken hostage, robed and letting other players have there way with you. Also its about if you should just surrender and let them have there way with you, hoping to walk away with you in game life. As a solo player I have developed personal technics over time to avoid these types of encounters all together. 1) I don't stay in citys or towns or bases for long periods of time. Unless its to ambush. I just quickly get loot what I need and leave as fast as possible. 2) Before I enter a city or town, AF or base I check to see if doors are opened. If they are opened I know someone is there or has been there. I always close doors behind me, so other players will think no one is there. There guard will be lowered this is huge. If you see them 1st you have the advantage. You can then make them your bitch lol 3) I always try to enter towns or base looking down on them, If I can. Having a view of the whole town or base. Scanning looking for open doors, players, zombie agro, dead player ect . Gun shots are another easy way to tell LOL Recon before I enter. 4) Always keep your guard up even if you think no one is there. I know I'm not the only sneaky one who plays. It works for me pretty well. With hunting now you really don't have to hang around in towns or citys were most of these "Hold Ups" happen. It's more at your leasure.

Being robed early one in a spawn is more then likely a death sentence anyways. You start off and your avatar is already hungry, and close to being thirsty. My advice is just get what you need out of the coastal spawn town then get the hell out and move inland quickly to higher value loot spawns. Try to get your weapons food water and gear 1st thing, then focus on pvp or what ever it is you play for. That way if you do die you don't waste allot of time. See the problem is now is everyone hangs around and pvps on the NE. Which is a common fresh spawn point. So say you go running into Barizino bandits and pvpers will likely already be there....kind of a death trap. When I 1st started electro was the hot spot, now its lighter. This all changes with the wind. So you kind have to know were other players hang out at the most. Lately they have been really predictable...Most hostile players are in the NE. Running solo I have been confronted by other players many times. What I have noticed if I'm not vary well geared they will try to make contact, sometimes for good reasons, most of the time they are trying to fuck with me. I almost always will run inside a building or try to flee. If get inside a building and I'm armed I will position my self in a room were its hard for them to aim on me right away and I can get the shots off 1st. Vary hostile like a cornered rat If there's more then one, I try to take at least one out for before going down. At least if they they are going to mess up my game, I'm going mess up at least one of there's and leave nothing but ruined gear for them to loot. When I'm geared players either try to KOS me, or run away. They seem to use much more caution, but that dosn't mean your at all safe. They want what you have. Rarely I'm voice commed while gear. I will say running solo can be vary difficult for a new player...vary. Now days knowing what I know now, I avoid towns and bases, only just to quickly loot and use stealth...meaning not wearing bright colors and trying to blend in. I normally hang out in the woods and If I do go near towns I'm in the woods high ground aiming down. Taking shots at long range if needs be. Being Teamed up its much easier and honestly is a good root to take as a new player. Join a clan and learn from the members. You will have people to loot with and people to watch your back while you learn. Not bad really. Kind of win win

I've been playing for a few 100 hrs now, all of stuff has happened to me in game both good and bad. I have died more times then I can count and killed more times then I can count. One thing I'll will say is not once ever, I mean ever have I been mugged or taken prisoner. I will fight no matter what. Whats the worst they can do to you, its a game. Real life I prob would hand over the wallet though lol
-
When I 1st started playing I had the exact same mind set and still do about being mugged, robed, or humiliated by ass hats in game. Just shot me because I'm not playing your stupid twisted fucking game. You keep your dignity which is huge. After a few weeks you'll learn your way around and learn to avoid those ass hats. Once you learn the way things work you'll be the one targeting people like that. Ya see just like every other multi player games, you have players who prey on new players and new spawns. There normally not the brightest people and also don't like challenge. So they target people new players cause its easy.
-
What a couple of Ass Hat Morons!! Jesus! LOL
-
I think they should un-nerf it. High powered sniper rifles should be deadly. One Shot One Kill Also its slow firing too, so now your really screwed in a short range surprise encounter.
