How do I not panic/shake when I get in a gunfight?
CJFlint replied to cheeseburger8's topic in New Player Discussion
I'm not try to be a dick or anything, but if your legit getting scared, feeling panic by DayZ... If your hand are shaking....for real no joke, maybe you should take a break. Come one really? Just Relax, chill out every thing......is ok its just a game. I used to play in a group a while back were peoeple would start screaming in TS feeling in total panic.........WOW...I just didn't get it. Its really distracting too, and kind of annoying. Maybe its those new rift gogles lol Or maybe its the horror movie type fear that I exp as a kid....thats kind of fun though I will confess. DayZ is pretty intense for a pc game I will give it that much...but my god its a video game and you lose nothing. I really never get scared playing it, I sometimes will get a little jolt from it if a player or zombie sneaks up on me, but thats kind of rare. It can sometimes even make me flustered, dam it what botton do I press again. I do get a fun rush. The worst that will happen is your screen will go black and say "you are dead", then you will have to either retreive or gear or re gear. It's more of a pain in the ass then anything. Maybe its becuase I do drink pints while I play.....thats what it is...I play half snokered. So if your old enough go get your self a 6er. Have your self a nice cold beer, in a nice chilled pint glass with a warm and fuzzy buzz. See how scared ya are then LOL I was in the Marines, and can tell dayz is really is for that matter the whole Arma series, are fairly realistic for a game but are missing allot of the elements of real combat and training...Lets just make that really clear right now. Not even close, don't ever try to compare it. Based of my own exp dayz itself is a vary warped verson of reality, and I really don't hold to that standard or its players either for that matter. I dont expect it to, I don't even want to be. WHY? It should be fun, a fun rush. I don't even hold my self to that standard while playing and don't take my self thats serous in game. In fact I crack jokes allot, I even go afk to grab a beer or a wizz on while on high pops LOL I say this though dayz from a simulation standpoint is pretty lethal though. Your odds of suriving for more then a few days are pretty slim, for some of us months...but something will get you at some point, unless your on low pops all the time. So who care, It's by design anyways...and the devs did a good job with that. At the end of the day its a interesting, fun game and a good simulation. Even more so when it is completed. -
I do get bored of it often, other times I really enjoy it. I play for weeks on and then quit for weeks. Normally its after I die in game. Its a que to play something else for a while. Or some kind of game glitch causes me to go...mhh... Or if theres a bad patch. It makes me lose interest fast. Its never good to just focus on one game for hours and hours days on end anyways, eating chips in your moms basement. Just take a break and stay fresh, and have a life. Go do something else. DayZ is really fun and interesting when everthing is going good in the game, and the mechanics are running smooth. But that is a really delicate balance. Once a bad glitch starts "the weather hot fix" or the "melee" bug starts, along with all the other ones. The game starts to go down hill fast and I lose interest fast. It becomes then becomes simulated flagellents. I'm almost in a game play cycle now, were I think...."better play it now while its running good, becuase lord knows it will be all dicked up again sooner or later." LOL Its growing pains is all it is and I have to remind my self all the time, this is a work in progress. Dosn't always work, but I try to tell my self that. For me I would call it bored, its more of I just don't feel like wasting time, when there fun killing glitches, would rather just wait til it fixed. I do own other games ya know.

Edited: Just clicked the link....Oh dear.......well...cough cough... Maybe I'll write that guide then, just have to find the time lol I missed that thread. Not sure what that was all about or why it was there. I guess save the smack taking for team speak lol Forums is for constructive talk. I had to learn that harsh lesson my self and made a promise to kichilron that I would behave myself. There is a time and a place for everything a wise man once told me.

I watch DayZ tv, and I have seen many streamers or video makers that really arn't all that great at the game. But heres the thing....What is being successful or good in dayz? Theres no score card no steam badges. I guess its all up to the player them selves and wether there meeting there goals in game or not. Or meeting there groups goals Did they have a good time playing and have fun or not. Its kind case by case and player by player or group. My goal is to survive as long as posible, and I have a certain play style I like to do. I play solo allot, but lately I have been getting back into group play. But I try to be open minded to other peoples style. There really is allot of people that just want a quick thrill, and really don't plan on living more then a couple nights. Theres people who find humor in trolling players, or play to get a luagh. All kinds of crazy crap goes on. Sometimes I find my self just wanting to see what people are going to do next. It can be quite entertaining. I think If I was to do a guide. I would cover every single thing I can think of, but not to in depth in anything. Because there so many styles of play these days. As far as military tactics goes. I really don't expect players to be experts at all. I don't hold them to that high of a standard. But a basic combat skills and just basic type type skill would be worth while in this game. A clear knowlege of what to look out for in patches. Some really do lack any kind of knowlege what so ever. So really I think the basics is really nec, if the player decides to be more advance with tactics and survival, then its up to them.
-
I fell victom to it. Its is a more common practice in the game, then many would like. It makes it vary hard to hold ground for more for more then a few minutes on a packed server. I think if there is going to be baricades added....base building and the like. This ghosting issue needs to be addressed first. With it in game now it changes the dynamics of what most military minded people would consider tactical. I have learned to adapt for the time being, and just know people will do that and simply not stay in one area for too long...until it is fixed or if it gets fixed. Just last night I was running with a group....then logged out left my TS on and still was talking to people. They saw several glitching hackers and were forced to log off there servers. Thats another thing I learned to adapt too...If I hear an unreasonable amount of gun fire...like more then someone can carry. Or a map glitcher....I log off ASAP. But I think they are rare...but not rare enough. These issues are in the game, and have been there since I been playing the SA. I learned to adapt to it, and strangly it has become just something I have to deal with while playing. In regards to a guide, I think it needs to be something people should be really aware of. You can't counter it, but with knowlege you can avoid it and cut down on your chances falling victim of it. Regardless DayZ is still a really interesting fun game, and its alpha. I love it sometimes. Sometimes So I have to keep reminding my self...this isn't finished and it will be really cool when it is.

Establishing sectors of fire would be a good one to teach. Also a tactic known as bounding. Example a small group provides cover for a moving group, then vs versa. Its a quick way to advance or break contact while dishing out fire. Its not really direct spawning per say, its alittle complex to explain. A team member of a clan say for example on a hot pvp server, can guide a team mate to a certain position on a light server. Right were they want them. Then once in posistion they then will log off the light server and then onto the pvp server. It can mess any kind of parim, or ground your trying to hold really fast. Which makes real world military tactics sometimes abit blured in this game in some respects. Oh I totally agree. Infact there is allot of things I see players do in you tube videos or in game that...well quite frankly not vary good tactics. Some times lacks even basic knowlege of the game. But there having fun and thats whats important at the end of the day. Heres another funny thing about dayz in regards to pvp vs reality. Player always gravitate toward urban settings.....from a military standpoint it makes zero logical since what so ever, unless there is serous strategic value...there is none in day z. Why? What do players gain from it, civ loot? LOL Its a total death trap, theres nothing to gain really from it other then thrills....thats what it is its just for the rush of doing it lol Urban combat is the worst type there is. But in DayZ its about the most intence crazy pvp you will see. You can get shot from anywhere. Mean while snipers post up on a hill aiming down at city with a long range, shoting ducks in barrel. Some of the stuff that goes on in dayz is really kind of silly. So in a way just because it does not always make logical since.....dosn't mean its not fun and a rush lol. It's something they would never even fathom doing in real life, but get to do it in dayz. Almost like watching a crash test. So I would say if you make a guide, keep in mind mechanics, and the fact some players infact many don't take the game that serous. I would go light on the infantry tactics. Just basic easy yet effective stuff. Fire, like you said sectors of fire, using cover, squad based movement, simple formations maybe and the use of over watch. Then cover the mechanics of the game. The more complex though, the less people will want to do it..Its just the way it is. This is a video game.
-
I think really it is basic infantry tactic knowlege, and an understanding of the game mechanics. You mentioned perimeters...in Dayz of cource we can log in and out any you please on the map. Clan's will often place players for a tactical adavatage on light servers, then having them log in on the server were the pvp is taking place. For example, a few monthes ago, me and some caln mates took over a apt building and held it for some time. Another clan attacked us, then began spawning right inside the building. It differs from reality in that since and perimeters really only last so long in DayZ. Then they become death traps. Its a moving battlefeild and counter to reality in that since.. I think as far as group battles go, the team should only stay in one place for only a few minutes. If want to survive you have to be moving. The DayZ battlefield is more leathal then a real life battle field, becuase you can really only hide for so long, once you take a few shots and start taking fire. Its time to start thinking about moving. So its not that easy to have an effective perim, your better of shooting and skooting. Becuase a smart group will figure out your trying to look down an area then spawn player inside your parim. A clan I belonged to a while ago would try to set up perim's, it always ended with people droping like flys. Its not due to lack of tactical knowlege on that one, not that they were not good players, they just did not consider game mechanics. So the game is some what realistic becuase of stuff like this, in some ways is really a warped reality. I would say 50% of dayz is understanding infantry tactics or shoting and moving. The other 50% is understanding the game mechanics, and the pros and cons. Its not as realistic as some may think, infact its really kind of warped. Military tactics don't always apply.

Maybe at some point in Beta or final releace there will be a rating system added were you get a class based off your actions. If they do this I think there should me much more terms the just hero or bandit. But really I would not be that heart broken if they didn't, or just make it something you can see. I kind of like the mystery. I focuse on keeping my avatar alive as long as posible, keeping my avatar 3 solid green bars as best I can, and geared to suit my needs. I also try to look out for people I play with when I group up. I enjoy trying out the new mechanics (WHEN THEY WORK) and surviving. I also like pvp when its well planed. I'm like action but do not consider my self a instant grad player. I prefer to live through pvp. I don't knock people whole enjoy quick thrills though. Its fun sometimes. I just prefer survival, and not dieing needlessly. Last thing I worry about is what lable to put on some random player I see running around. DayZ SA has nothing but gameplay freedom in the confines of its engine. Why get so caught up with 2 terms "hero" or "bandit". Its just pointless and dumb. Why not just focuse on learning the mechanics, getting good at it. Setting out to try game out play styles how ever you like and not wasting time labling other players so much, unless you know 100% thats how they play.
-
I think the term bandit is just a spill off term from the Mod. Same with hero for that matter. In the stand alone, I think its just a lable one puts on someone to make them selves feel better about shooting another player. Or its a play style. But really is a much more lose term. Same thing with hero. I chose not to use any terms like this in the SA, instead treating every player case by case. UNLESS its a clan that is known to have a certain play style. To me DayZ SA does not have any moral mechanics or ethics in game. When I play I do not regard ethics what so ever. Theres really no need, its a waste of time. When I see other random player I treat them as hostile based off there posture. If they have gun in hand, and don't bother to make contact. There hostile to me. Simple. If they don't, and they make a real effort to show there freindly then there not hostile and I consider them to be not as hostile. But I still watch them closely. I think its a waste of my time to even consider wether someone is hero or bandit. Also setting out just to rob other players is a waste of time to me. I never set out to kill or hold up another player, for there stuff. It just don't seem to be cool. Now if I shoot someone and get a clean head shot to were there stuff isn't ruined. I will check them to see if there is anything I may need. Or if I find a dead avatar same thing. So in a nut shell I find myself much better off when playing the SA just not even considering these terms. Its all grey. Thats just me.
-
I wonder if some sort of "honour system" is in the works. Even ratings or badges for things you do in game. Right now it seems there not much insentive to be freindly in game, basiclly a nasty world were you can trust no one. Unless you make contact with players just for pure entertainment. I guess its a question of if they added honor mechanics, would it ruin the desperate post apoc feel of the game. Not really sure, unless they add it.

Gear up on low pop. PvP on high pops...simple. Your putting your self in a really bad position playing on a high pop, poorly geared. On top of that your going into areas were people high pvp traffic. Unless your an instant gradifaction pvper who just wants a quick thrill then die. Otherwise Its lose lose. So gear up on light servers. You may still run into people, but it will not be a group. If its just one person there def not as hard to deal with. Keep your alert level high even on low pops. If your looting military spawns, there is still a chance you will run into someone. They are on that server for the same reason. With your alert high, they maybe being careless becuase its low pop. Then you get to take the shot 1st. I try to always have my guard up no matter what. Onto the high pops. When you get geared up and have plenty everything you need and decide to venture to the high pops. Stay out of towns and military spawns unless you have biz there. Like looting, or your looking for pvp. If your looting, do it quickly in and out! Theres nothing but trouble there on high pops, so only go there to if your looking for it. When you do decide to pvp with the intant of getting into some action, pick your battles and have a plan. YOU decide were you want pvp and how your going to do it. Think about it. People are dicks who play DayZ...they really are. Unless you know them on TS, clan mates or steam freinds. Its a fact. I know this through learning the hard way. About 85% of player I meet randomly are hostile. I don't even bother using prox voice any more. Its like hunger games. Your better off just helping your self, and who ever your freinds with. It sucks but its true. I hate to say it freindly dosn't pay in the stand alone. Just the way this game is. The devs did a pretty good job making the DayZ on a high pop a vary dangerous unfreindly virtual world and creating a prefect storm for KOSing or player just being complete dicks to each other. Its by design.

Not to continue with the off topic topic, but hacking is not as wide spread as some think. Personally in my 300 hours plus playing the DayZ SA I have only seen "Teleporters" 2 times, that I was certain were hackers. I think that much of the time players die, they sometimes cry hacker, becuase they don't understand why they died. Its like crying wolf. I sometimes think the hacking problem is really amplified, compared to what it really is..So I would not goes far as to say the hacking problem is rampant. I think the real issue with dayz, is well its not complete. Theres bugs and mechanics that just dont work that well. Its sometimes just flat out broken. Sometimes you can even die in game from it. Its early access....we have to give them some slack. These things take time. The "hackers" are people who down load 3rd party soft ware, which by the way are not mods....they are mallware. Which puts them in serous risk of being hacked them selves...for real. So they could pay a really heavy price at the end just to cheat in a game. All said people that use these programs hurt everyone. They wreck peoples game play, give the game it self a bad rep and the hackers them selves are putting there own ID in a great deal of risk. Lose lose and lose.

Looking around the map and... wait, are those like the Nazca lines?
CJFlint replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
I have been there...it is really on the map and in the game. Its up kind of by NEAF. Although its much harder to make out when your close to it. But it was a few monthes back when I passed it...so maybe they took it out. -
The fresh spawn points are more spread out again. So NE is not the only hot spot any longer. Cherno is were I have seen the most pvp action, but I have been running into players all over the map now days. This is good, because many players are venturing all over vs just staying up NE which was the trend before they switched the spawn points.

In the begining of this patch and last stable patch. I found mine over in Novo last couple of times. Try there, that place is like a gold mine for civ loot. Theres sev of places there one could spawn. That big gov building seems to spawn just about every gun, expect the AKM, M4 or the AK101. Just watch out for the asshats! LOL

Does anyone else want to be captured/tortured?
CJFlint replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
I have never been detained in dayz. Players consider me hostile I think and shot 1st. Because I'm always armed and I sneak around with a weapon in my hand. That’s fine too. I would rather just be shot. I have captured players, and will tell you it is entertaining.....but after a while they become a pain in the ass...What do you do with them? You can't hold them for ever and what if they are talking to there budys on TS? Working on turning the tables on you? If your captured you stand a good chance of not surviving it, if its just some random thing. You will probably be starved or force feed, and really just someone’s personal entertainment at your expense. Its normally really what the case is. Because in the video game world of dayz, life is really cheap. Your avatar pixels have no value after the rob you for everything, even to you lol. There specail cases. There are cases were clans will capture people from other clans. I have also seen players captured for there own safety the released. Hero clans sometimes will do that. *ALTHOUGH* if you wanted to go into it with the idea of trolling your captures, or even setting them up for say an ambush. That would be interesting. -
I find them in barracks, piano houses and baracks....even in taverns. I find the long range scopes and comps in the same places, and more often in storage units. There every where and no where is the best way for me to discribe it. Depends on the server, and what random loot spawned.
-
For me finding mags vary's weapon to weapon. I see to be able to get AKM mags 30 round and 70 drums with luck in the mil barracks.....But pistol mags I'm lucky to find 1 or 2 mags in a life. I love the Colt too but I will drop it off and use a 357 just because I don't need mags for it, speed loaders are nice though. So I agree, its weird like that. The reality is there is a fuck ton of AK-47, and the newer AKM floating around in this world..

I never really noticed until the .49 stable patch that axes get worn down from pristine to ruined rather quickly from chopping down trees. Axes are now even much more of a critical part of your DayZ kit, with the weather effects. Now not only is it the most effective to kill zeds melee, it also is very much needed for chopping down trees to build fires to stay warm. In my last “life” in game I had a fire axe that was pristine when I picked it up, and was ruined after chopping down only 4 trees. I think maybe the axes should be worn over time, but to me that’s not much life at all. Even more so with no way of sharpening or maintaining our axes in game. We should have the a way of sharpening and maintaining our axes, like a sharpening stone, the same way we maintain our close in game. Like a sewing kit. Because the way it is currently I would be forced to run into a firehouse every day to get a new axe, just too stay warm. It’s completely ridiculous and cannot rely on it currently. So we need this sooner rather than later. Maybe add a cool case or holster type thing that protects the axe and carries a sharpening stone all in one later on down the road. Also the sharpening stones could also be used to sharpen other sharp objects. Now It may already in the works, thats fine but its needed now more then ever. Thanks!
-
That sucks...A stone being ruined...I'm think more and more that DayZ has got some serous work ahead of it. Maybe a gun shot, but not a melee strike from a zed. God the more we go on with this the more we find completly unfinished things with mechanics and items. Alpha. What they should do is make a smaller one slot sharpening stone or block, that can be carried and used to sharpen axes or other sharp items. Also the axe being degarded that much after just knocking down a tree or two really is stupid. It just is. Carrying a 4 slot stone just seems kind of dumb, just so we can make axes badly dam to dam. If its just to hold us over for a few patches til the finish work on the a real sharpening stone thats cool, maybe it should just one slot though. See all these items are needed more now then before. Can't have them all dicked up. They did the weather changes in .49....this was fine. I did not feel the need to start a fire every hour. Then then the hot fix came (which I have no clue why they did it, it helped nothing). Now I need to start fires on the regular.... but oh shit. We really don't have decent realible tools to do that in the game yet period. So by putting out the hot fix they created a whole host of game play problems...and no its dosn't make it more realistic or hardcore. Just broken. Whats messed up about all this is .49 worked....well pretty good when 1st went live....so what give with this hot fix?
-
Serously?
-
Well were finding out more in more some of the mechanics are destorted or warped compared to reality. So really there is a couple of ways to find out. The wiki or to try it in game. The damage points Im pretty sure are higher on the fire axe, but its not that much. You can one hit a zombie with a wood cutting axe. But its also called a "wood cutting axe".....hint hint. At this point in DayZ SA I wouldn't be suprised either way. Its all metrics really, in the game it self. But with the weather effects if it did turn out the woodcuting axe has a much longer life for cutting down trees. I would take it over the fire axe, even at the cost of a few damage points.
-
Your a Troll! I figured it out. Your just posting to cause you like to debate about stuff....find another thread In your little list you made you just agreed with every thing this thread is about, but yet I speak nonsense LOL I'm not even going to respond to you anymore there professor. Really!?
-
Fire axes are tough as shit in the real world. They are ment to go through hell. Were talking vary high temps, and they can go through walls and everything else that gets in the firemens way. They do not break every 5 minutes trust me. You would have to do allot to break the handle on one. Maybe run it over with a semi might work.
-
I respectfully dis agree. This is pandering to the dev's and giving them an excuse for bad game play mechanics. 1) The stone takes 4 slots, this....thats allot just for something sharpens daul blades. 2) Only 4 trees really? Are you serous? You think that just fine? Its ridiculous. I get it, I understand were your coming from. We both, in fact all of us want a unforgiving hard core realisitc survival simulator, but not with broken mechanics and stuff that just dons't work or make since. I'm not asking for the game to be softened, I asking that it to work and make logical since. He man it's ok to mention stuff thats broken on the forums it dosn't make you less of a hard core DayZ player lol
