    Boring.

HA HA Dam your profile picture just gave me a 80s flash back....even rocking the mullet and everything....Cracks me up...Back in the day people pay top dollar to get pictures like that taken, and take them so serously.. But let me tell you something brother....no one...and I mean NO ONE! Has a mullet like Dog the Bounty Hunters epic mullet! No one!

    that dang steak, cooking question

They need to fix the gas stove. Its not working correctly ATM. It has no use right now at all, can't cook with it unless you like burnt meat, can't use it to stay warm. Hopfully this will change soon. Use a fire place kit and carry at least a log with you, that way you don't have to chop a tree down every time you have to cook or get warm, ruining your axe (another thing that needs some fxing or tweaking). With the fire place kit it just takes a few min to cook the stakes. What I'm finding out, is surviving off of meat is more is not as realible as I would like. You really have to have allot of it. I would advise having cans of food or bags of rice as a back up. I would also advise keeping the cooking pot, it takes only 4 slots, and I believe it carrys six peices of meat. Not a bad way to save space if you hunt.

What do you think about realism in DayZ?

I noticed theres a few coments about playing at night in dayz, like its not that ideal. Its used to be pitch black at times, and pretty hard to get around. A few patches ago they made night much better lit. You can see were your going now infact, its not bad at all to play at night now. I'm finding my self going onto night servers, for looting quite often. Infact I rarely have to use a light source. Its lite just enough. Now is this 100% realistic...no. But its does make night time play more of an option.
  4. He likes to debate, just for the sake of debating. You end up with a whole page of replys, debating something that really isn't all that constructive off subject.. The mosin is the games only long range sniper rifle ATM. We need it. He made a coment no combat rifle of the period was accurate, which is false. Theres a reason its still used in combat to this day. Sure it isn't the most ideal sniper rifle, but its what we have. Me I have allot exp with fire arms, BUT I never fired a mosin in RL, never really had a desire too either. So I really don't know what its capible of. I know the one in DayZ. Almost want to now lol just to see for my self out at a range. You have and you no better then what was said. You know what the real one is really capible of. Thats why forums you have to take what people are saying with a grain of salt, there are 100s of arm chair experts, that really don't know what there talking about, then there are some who really do. You kind of have to filter it out. Also DayZ SA makes no claim to be 100% realistic...it is a sim but still. I really think you can drive your self nuts holding dayz to a realism standard. This is just one example. On this thread...my self I am speaking of the mosin in DAYZ.

What do you think about realism in DayZ?

I can say with all honesty, currently dayz is only somewhat realistic vs reality. But... Much of what makes dayz....dayz is its intense. There really isn't anytime you are not looking over your shoulder. In dayZ it simulates a really lethal unforgiving world (High Pops not Low), were something at some point will kill you. Wether you slowly get bleed by your wounds, you get shot, or you starve...something will kill you. It creates tention and lots of it. It varys person to person. It can cause you to over react and even completly panic. Some even lose it playing and completly freak out. Its by design. Its a game that really is psycological on players, it really does have an effect. Once I realised that the game became much less tense and my thinking became much more logical in game. Its what they did really well, and I would like to see more of. In fact players can use it too there advantage...the fear factor. So this aspect is better then just about anygame I have seen. It adds realism. What I want to see is the inventory system in game become more organic, and natural feeling. It seems really crude were it is now. Its not realistic. I do want to see much more mechanics added. I also want to see everything run alittle more fluid. When I go from one game to dayz, I notice that dayz at times is rather clunky. Its not smooth. Which to me takes aways from immersion. Bug also take the feeling you are really there away fast. So there is allot of stuff in the game now that ruin the immersion..Im sure it will be fixed at some point. But there has to be a functional balance, also we have to remember....this is a game it needs to be fun too.

What do you think about realism in DayZ?

Through it on the ground...thats what I do LOL
  7. Nope. In arma2 you can use a fuel or ammo truck to refuel any aircraft or re arm, so long as they are from the same faction. In fact you can use the same truck to refuel tanks, trucks cars, ect ect. Its not 100% realistic but it is how ARMA 2 works. That part of the game is dumbed down. DayZ I could see it being somewhat similar, but of cource there will probably be more to it and more mechanics to it.
  8. In ARMA 2 you can refuel and reload aircraft using a fuel or ammon truck. In dayz sa I could see it being the same, or maybe new mechanics...But that is just my best guess.
  9. You are correct, it is a vary old gun and really would not be the most ideal sniper rifle. I saw one in a shop recently, they really are crusty old rifles lol In the real world its still used in conflicts. In fact afgan rebels are known to use them. But of cource like many things in dayz, its sort of a warped version of reality. I sometimes take realism with a grain of salt in day z otherwise I would drive my self nuts. I'm finding more and more its not as realistic as I once thought. As far as the CR527 goes, they are working on a hunting scope for it. Also there is the SVD, they mentioned maybe added down the road. I hope to see the same paint job and the burlap rap as there is for the mosin.....The SVD will be my new fav gun... For now the mosin is the long range sniper rifle in the game. Thats what we have thats it. So I think it should remain with the LRS til atleast til theres a long range replacement. Or adding a rail system to mount the scope on would also make it more realistic.
  10. 1st off holding breath does work, lets just make that clear. Second the bipod the last time I checked is no long able to be attached to the mosin. Its only for the ak101, AKM and the m4 now. Currently its vary hard to find...maybe helo crash sites. Also I have heard no word on the LRS being removed from the mosin....none. If they are it would be a dumb idea, unless they put another sniper rifle in the game. Were do people get this info from? Jesus. I don't mean to rude, but there is allot of mis leading info on this thread. I use the mosin with pu and long rang currently all the time when I play. My fav rifle in the game ATM. It is posible to make really long range shot with it. You need to be prone pref. You need to be really aware of the sway, and use holding breath. You also have to set the range aswell. To say you can't use it for long range currently tells me you are a novice at with the mosin. It takes skill.
  11. I think I can anser this one by just saying prob not at 1st, or you will have to man a weapons station. But I think its likely in the future. I could be wrong. The reason I say this is DayZ SA of cource uses the ARMA 2 engine. I know they are working on a new engine to run the game, also allowing them to add new mechanics. But for now it still runs off the arma 2 engine I'm pretty sure. The arma 2 engine allows you to man weapons stations in vehicles, but does not allow just to shot out of one like in GTA. Now I'm not saying it will not happen, in fact maybe there already working on it and thats why there taking so long deploying them. Not sure. I just making my best guess off of what I know about ARMA2. I'm really looking forward to the day when they do add the new engine and what kind of features we will see from it. This is just one that could be added.

    Where's the action at?

I play on stable, is that data for exp?

    Where's the action at?

For a few months much of the pvp took place in the NE corner of the map, leaving much the map empty of players even on the most high pop server. This is becuase that were you would spawn in...the north east coast. I firmly believe allot of player really don't venture that far from were they were a fresh spawn at. I also don't think the avarage life span of those same players is more then a few hours. Maybe a day or two. This is becuase they are instant gradification players, they don't play to survive they play for the thrill of pvp. Having all the spawn points up there was great for looting the west coast...no one bothered running over there anymore...so it was great for long term surivors like me to loot with out anyone being there. But in the larger picture it was wrecking the game. Now its spread out, which is better regardless of play style. So regardless of what kind of player you are, if you want too meet up with your budys you might have to go across the map. I say big deal. I do it all the time anyways. But allot of players don't. But regardless of play styles, your likely to run accross anyone anywhere now. Just becuase of those spawn points being moved. I'm seeing players every where now, were as before it was loot on the west, pvp on the east. I like it better with everyone spread out.

    Where's the action at?

Thee Cherno/Bolota hell hole's has been heating back up just like it used to be, on a high pop someone will be there I promise. Watch that indust tower with the sign up there, theres always ass hat up there taking pop shots at people...never fails. Sort of a rest haven for snipers. Same with electro...and what a dump that place is...I mean this in a good way he he. I havn't even been up NE in the past few weeks. I havn't died or had to respawn though so I have no reason to visit. I must say people are spreading out more, on high pops. This is good. Much of this is becuase the fresh spawn points are more spread out now. Some are even inland. I garvitate toward the south coast of the map. Its great for pvp, group or solo its also convenveintly located near mil loot spawns, and other loot spawns. So for me its good for pvp and pve for that matter.... I live there. Its been fun the last couple weeks.

    Extremy Unlucky? or the norm?

I think its norm for a new player. Dayz is pretty unforgiving for new spawns right now. You either loot quick or risk dieing in a short amount of time....When I say this I mean basic stuff. But I seeing more and more players saying they can't find anything what so ever and hearing this more and more, forums and in game. I thinks this is all server based. So if you in a city and have been trying to loot and have not found a thing after 10 or 15 min of looking, try loging into a new server. Much of this is becuase of persistants. I have seen this quite abit, and I just log off and log on a new one. Get go to the DayZ TV map, its asome. This is really helpful finding were things spawn. But they recently made mil loot a little bit more rare....but it still spawn.

    First impressions, 10+ hours later

Sounds like you have the right idea about DayZ. Your story and that profile pic reminds me of that movie, "the road". I think your 1st game exp was harder then mine, there are now weather effects, and some loot is harder to come by. But there is hunting now. When I 1st started it was there really wasn't much for weather effects, and you could find an M4 with all the attachments with in an hour or so. A simpler time lol Now days its ruff for a new spawn. You will know with in 15 minutes weather you current life will have a fighting chance or not. I used to gear up in a matter of an hour or so, really well in a day (with every thing I want). Now its harder, you got to work much harder. But thats the way it should be. New player get thrown in the fire right away. Your story sounds like your getting into it and enjoying the game and seeing it the way the devs intended it to be seen. Its good to hear new players fresh to the game are saying good stuff, and not dis ing the game.

Can we stop this instant-ruined-everything stuff?

I will confirm there is one shot zombies, that can ruin your shirts. This sounds crazy, but last weekend I was playing north of electro in Tulga, and by god a zombie hit me from 10 feet away, and ruined my shirt. I then changed shirts. Then I logged back in on a dif server and by god at the exact same spot and zombie that looked exactly the same, ruined my my other shirt...1 shot from 10 feet away. Also when I shot that zombie, it seemed like just a few seconds later he respawned. Weirdness. Nothing else just my shirt was ruined both times........wierd. Nothing else vest, pants, pack ect ect were just fine no damage. It almost seems like that zombie is programed to do that at that spot everytime, it also seemed like that zombie did not behave normally. I am now convinced that is some sort of bug, and will avoid that little town. Or maybe that program zombies to do that randomly.....not sure. Just glad I have spares he he. Pretty strange. LOL But it's alpha, so becareful on ladders, don't climb down into the bunker the new mil base....watch your ping and the list goes on. Thats why dayz is half common since/ tactic and half knowing the mechanics and what broken and not broken,
  18. Hey, and this is ment as a peice of advice, I'm sersouly trying to help. If your a fresh spawn say for example at Cherno, and you begin looting and there is no food anywhere. Try a dif server. Don't wait to long either, just log into a new one. Becuase if your at one of the larger citys, and theres no food....anywhere...something is not right. Every server is dif. Presist servers can be a pain, that maybe whats going on in your case. It maybe that your logging into servers that just arn't spawning anything. Not sure. I just don't buy the fact your just starving to death everytime, something isn't adding up. Your not doing something right...my theory is your logging into persist servers. And to your defence, if your new to DayZ it can be vary unforgiving to new players. There's really no manual or anything like that comes with the game. Theres really only 3rd party videos, DayZTV and the wiki you can resort to learn anything about the game. Which leads to frustration. So take a breath, and read carefully on what people are telling you. Theres allot of tribal knowlege in this game, there really is. Its 50% common since 50% knowing the mechanics(whats broken and whats not).

Can we stop this instant-ruined-everything stuff?

Not taking that advice, learned over time that does not work for me. For me that is much less likely then getting hit in the front. I never store important items is my vest or pants. Its a resipe to lose it, some point. But we all have dif exp though. Norm the damage I take is from the front. I have managed to keep my through improtant several lives with out having it ruined. But I will not discount what your saying it is posible you are more of an urban pvper then I am, and with that said a shot to the back can happen. Hell dieing in gereral is allot my likely in an urban setting. I shot people in urban areas from outside...Does this mean I dont put any thing in my pants or vest....no. But the items I value the most have a spot in my pack. I'm a over watch player when I do pvp. I generally don't get hit from the back. In fact it is down right rare for me.

Can we stop this instant-ruined-everything stuff?

Keep all your important stuff in your back pack. I had to learn that lesson the hard way.
  21. CJFlint

Can we stop this instant-ruined-everything stuff?

What I do is keep one extra set of close. I pair pants, one shirt. Civ close I dont even care about. That way you ruin on through your spare on. Tactical shirts are great as a spare, cause you got for slots of storage with them. So it dosn't take any room. Carry a sewing kit too, sometimes 2. Pesky zombies are what degrade my close norm. So I can just do a quick mend, it problem solved. When that once hit zombie crap happens to me its always on laggy servers its seems like, just log off and find a smoother server. Theres nothing but stupid issues on laggy servers.
  22. Have we not figured out this game is virtual flagelants yet? Your avatar really gets put through the ringer and gets beat thee holly hell out off, its your job to keep him or her alive! The food system is just one part of it!
  23. I will start off by saying that picture is great..Good work! It's all going to go down hill from here though. Food is every where in the game and so is water. I have no problem staying with 3 solid green bars. Once you get those bars lit up solid you don't have to eat as often or drink. You just have to eat or drink every 20 min to half hour...no biggy. Its easy and simple to understand. Your not playing the game right. Or you just dont have the patience. Cause its prob the easiest thing to understand. I never ever strave to death. Ever. Just get those three bars lit, and its easy to maintain after that. You will find to be much easier. In fact last night I got sick in game....Really really sick. I went from 3 green bars, to being just cold and sick in a matter of 10 minutes. I ate something I should not have just to see what would happen and quickly realised I might have just killed my avatar LOL Were talking bad brown sick bar +plus brown cold...seeing all grey. The people in my group tried to help, but could not...they all thought I was going to die. I thought about striping all my close off and just dieing and coming back to re pick up. But instead I decided to try to survive it. I found a pond and starting drinking water, then ate every thing I had til I was full. I was still grey and my avatar vomited....I then ran to a the nearest village fought zombies and ate everything there. I was able to recover my avatart after 20 minutes after that. I turned certain death sick into 3 green bars in about 30 minutes in the middle of no where. So I really dont want to hear about how hard it is for you to find food as a fresh spawn next to novo or cherno LOL Give me a break And I walked 20 miles to school when I was a kid too!

    Propane Stoves? Do they work

I can't wait for the day propain stoves work correctly, it just burns meat now days. The do light and you can also use the lamp too. If you could use it to both provide heat and cook food with out burning, this would be an asome item. It only takes 2 slots, and is a hell of lot better then hauling around a fireplace kit or a big ass log every where you go, and a fire place kit!? (which is really kind of dumb that we have to do that...never did that when I went back packing) So at some point we could have a stove and lamp that only takes up 4 slots! Way better, much rather luging a log or a fire place kit around. Also the pot is a really good item to pick up too. It takes up 4 slots yet carrys 6 peices of meat. Would be a nice lil kit a stove a lamp, with the can propain cans attached to save room. A pot. You got light, a cooking/heating device and something to store your food in plus use to cook with....all for 8 slots. Not bad! Get this stove working right please devs! I'm not sure why they haven't fixed the issues with the stove yet.....its kind of way more important then it was before hunting and weather effects were added. That should be high on there list. I get cold every hour......I sware. I light at least 2 fire each time I play. Just a matter of time before someone sees me sitting next to fire and shoots me. Even in the wood I get concerned about it, fire place kits are like beacons. Cool graghic effects and all but I want other means to stay warm too and cook. And don't get me wrong...building fire is a cool option, its kind of cool to sit next to it...should NOT be the only option though. Hopefully this fixed in the next patch or a hot fix. I'm sure sooner or later they will get it, I hoping sooner rather then later.
  25. I saying if your serously scared, hands shaking, pissing your pants......thats not having fun ...that just me. Step away for a moment, and take a breath. Hey play how ever you want, if that how people like it...ok then. I understand a rush, or a jolt or a rush sure. Hands shaking....thats just clear panic fear, and a dis conection between reality and the game. I get it, the horror movie fear, but were's the line. Hey have seen you video were there's a girl who was playing, who was totally losing it freaked out, and the people next door called the police on her.......I'm not kidding this really happened. There are people who get really freaked out by it. Clearly she was one of them. It was a funny video to an extent....but really were do draw the line and say this is game. I have heard people lose it playing before on TS....it to much for people some times. I really think if your losing it and getting freaked out, put it down for a while. Thats all.
