  1. Are we not gentlemen, have we not a gentlmen's code? I have many little rewengwei missions on the go at the minute but I will make a special little dark-hole in my heart for the people who alt-f4 on me during a gunbattle that they initiate. This is the omerta my friend. You just made THE list, not A list. THE LIST. I shall not revenge myself on you but once. I shall follow closely at your heal. Track you for hours, and when you go AFK to let the cat out, or give the dog some food, or stop the dog using the cat as food I will skip up to you and give you some shotgun mouthwash. By the time you get back to your keyboard there will be insufficient time to alt-f4 out. You're going to be out and out dead. I'm not even going to take your stuff - I'll leave it for some nubs to find. I will put rounds into your recumbant body just to be sure. In short, if I ever see you alt f4 on me...boy. I will follow you to the ends of reason; To the Australian servers if I must, and I will never cease to troll you until you repent the day your mother gave you birth. My revenge shall be as cold and sweet as ice cream. Love and kisses, Alex xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Darwin List: Banned Users

My name is in that list. It's a fairly common name these days but now I have to go and see if it's me that got banned. And if so, what for. EDIT: It seems I can't access the dayz download section on this website. Is everyone else having this trouble or have I, in actual fact been banned? There are some peeps I've seen in servers with the exact same name as me and I'm wondering if it's possible I've been banned because one of these little gimps was cheating? I have never cheated in dayz and never would. I don't even alt-f4. I play mainly in the Chicago, Seattle and US servers 3 and 4 I believe.
  3. Well hello there, How y'all doing? Before I begin let me thank the developers of Dayz for an enthralling mod'. Of All the mods for Bohemia Interactive's softwere this is, for me, by far the most addictive. To my mind it's considerably more entertaining than some titles I've payed 30 squid for. It's come to my attention from browsing these forums that there is a considerable amount of dispute over whether to retain PvP gameplay. Of course, in reality there is no real dispute for the mod is the sole property of it's maker and they need not heed any man's gripe about their work and can continue to do as they please, but insofar as other people's opinions do alter your own please allow me to point out the mangled logic and butthurt that constitutes the entire case for removing PvP gameplay. When dealing with such a weak case it's tempting to engage in mockery or reduce your opposition to simple straw men on which to draw genitalia but in the interests of fairness, and more importantly, utterly crushing what remains of this misguided pressure group let us here their case point by point. Try not to be distracted by the silent scream of "bawwwwwwwwww" before each point and attend the case most seriously; The honorable judge Lollington shall preside. THE CASE FOR THE REMOVAL OF PvP ASPECTS IN DAYZ Point 1: "PvP is simply not realistic Humans are naturally cooperative not naturally destructive. In a real life zombie apocalypse [lulwut?] people would gang together, start taking back their land. As it is this is just a kiddies game of counter strike and murder is far more common than it should be!" Humans have both cooperative and malicious urges. In society these are kept in check by a combination of social convention, self-respect, fear of the law, obedience to the law, lack of opportunity to use maliciousness for any gain etc etc. In a world in which ordinary civil society has ceased to exist many of these restraining factors simply disappear. Many would continue to abide by their own code of ethics but many would not. In times of great upheaval in human history do we not see man's nastier side more than we see it on a Sunday trip to the shops? Even cooperation within groups usually only proceeds on the basis of reciprocation. Between social, moral or political groups it can break down to the extent of war itself (the NW airfield rings to the sound of war between different groups I should say) If you found a drunk man passed out on a city street would you take him home? No? What if he was your best-friend? Violence is inherent in humans. I sat on a park bench in Liverpool once and watched a builder throw a coin so hard at a pigeon he took it's head off. Then he laughed about it - in front of other people and with a policeman patrolling not 50 meters away. Point 2: "PvP has no place in what is essentially a zombie mod, if you're going to advertise a zombie mod then essentially is should be zombies zombies and when your not shooting zombies we should talk about zombies and zombie games that are based on zombie films shouldn't have PEOPLE shooting each other because people aren't zombies and so when we play zombie games quod erat demonstrandum" It may well be the case that that people expecting a game whose sole objective was zombie eradication will be surprised and appalled to be killed by another human in Dayz but this is not in my own experience. People seem upset to be shot but not upset that they could be shot - they are upset because it happened to them. Overall the reaction to the mod is fantastically positive and the number of people actively arguing for the removal of PvP action is small. Does this not imply that people are pleased with the PvP features? The case that humans antagonizing humans has no place in zombie lore per se has no basis in fact. The mutual antagonism of humans during a zombie apocalypse is a theme utterly central to the genre. I literally cannot name a popular zombie film in which humans have not treated other with contempt and suspicion at some point - this spurred on by the above mentioned factors. In short, Dayz let's you live "The Walking Dead". It plays out surprisingly similarly with practical Shanes, moralistic Ricks and fretful crybabys like Lori (ahem) Point 3: "I had spent 6 hours playing and then got shot in the back in the middle of the woods at night. How am I meant to defend against that? To me that's not fun. The guy just goes around stalking people and [repeat point 1] which is dumb because [point 2] this is killing the mod [o rly?] Girl I refuse, you must have me confused With some other guy Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn To cry, cry me a river Cry me a river-er Cry me a river Cry me a river-er, yea yea Point 4: "This PvP play is game-breaking. It's depressing getting killed and I get killed a lot" See previous point Point 5: People are farming high tier weapons free of any risk at all; Novy Sabour is a constant warzone; Bandits have superior camoflage to survivors; people can Alt-F4 out before they're killed PvP gameplay: It's certainly not perfect. I've got my own ideas about what would make the PvP aspects of the game more balanced, more interesting and more varied but one semi-decent gripe can't make case for eliminating a HUGE aspect of gameplay. Player antagonism, bargaining and suspicion is central to the zombie genre, it puts a sharp edge on Dayz' gameplay, it enhances player freedom but ALSO encourages teamplay and could arguably be considered worthy social study. Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. Thank you for your time. Addtional: Dayz mod please to put ACRE in mod wantuse ACRE radio system plxfixordosoumfink or iw forced to complain more.

    My Trip to the airfield

I totally lolled when I found that place. You should be able to step on them to kill them rather than having to shoot them! :D Mind you some of the barns there spawn REALLY rare weapons a lot of the time.

    Simple solution to disconnect exploit

Dig this you hip chicks. Me and my E-bro went north to arm up before inititating a little revenge fest on the Seattle server. We had targets in mind. We spent too long hanging around a military camp. We got greedy, with sacks full of ammunition for our rifles we continued to run circles looking for even sweeter loot instead of just running when we had our stuff. 2 minutes later we went down under a hail of shotgun fire. I'm not even sure where it was coming from - we nearly got out but we didn't. It took me the best part of 12 hours to gear up to that extent. I hope whoever bagged us on the seattle server at 17:00 gmt enjoys it... Now consider this: My friend is a rage-quitter, rage-quitting is something he has done many a time. But he is not so spineless as to alt-f4 out during a gunfight in dayz If you alt-f4 out I would speculate you are actually suffering from a character defect. It IS cheating. And don't come in here waving your confession like it meant something, you just admitted to something on the internet WOW - well done - I've got screencaps of a guy admitting he sniffs his sister's panties. NO ONE KNOWS WHO YOU ARE ON THE INTERNET. I don't care if you do it and admit it or do it and don't admit it. You still have less character than an autistic five year old I once met who played chess, at least he didn't knock the board over when he was losing. Tl;dr alt-f4 is for cunts. End of discussion.

    Arma 3

Forgive my stupidity but I just thought I'd ask because Rocket IS a member of Bohemia interactive...Can we expect to see Dayz on Arma 3? Moreover, what of the physics engine changes coming in Arma 3. Could it possibly be true that we shall actually see decent interior combat in the Arma series for the first time ever? Will zombies have to come through the doors from now on? I'm just asking because if the Arma engine could be made to support decent combat WITHIN structures I seriously wouldn't play any other game. As it is, building geometry is...well...terrible. No offence to Bohemia interactive. They've still made a HELL of a game. ;)

It's the term for placing the barrel of a shotgun in someone's mouth and pulling the trigger. The result is as spectacular as it is disgusting. See also: Kurt Cobain. The 9 gram lead ration. An hero.

Awesomesauce. Do you think we could get other server admins to ban these people if we can provide video proof of it like in the other thread about this?

Ta very much for the video - I shall add the guy to my little death-kill list.

    Simple solution to disconnect exploit

As far as I'm aware you are either lying or mistaken - I've seen players straight up vanish as soon as shooting starts. One guy took a shot at me and vanished as soon as I turned round - I suspect the former because I have seen numerous legion players alt-f4ing during their ambushes. Trying to hide something? Awesome. I'd like to play there more were it not for the fact that I get a terrible ping trying to connect to the other side of the globe. :P

    Simple solution to disconnect exploit

A lot of people who have all the "pro" gear do it. That's HOW they got it. This rustles my jimmies somewhat and I'm trying to form a little group of two friends specifically to track them from server to server with the purpose of wiping the smug little smile off their faces. Always gotta have a goal in dayz my man. I've just set myself a hard one.

    The PvP Discussion Thread

Who are you to say that the only aim of the game is surviving like a tree hugger? If you've got a problem with these pking bandits then START HUNTING THEM. That's what I'm doing. I plan to tally some bananas tommorow then lololololol at them over side chat. It might make them reconsider their actions. Shoulda' watched your back, jack. Or else someone connected to the server right behind you. Bad luck, old man. Happens to us all. Why were you travelling in a group of more than say, 2, if you weren't afraid of bandits? I'm guessing the little shit fired at and HIT you and now you're having a severe case of "I got shot by a bawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwndit" Deal with it - I NEVER alt f4 (and not just because I didn't know I could until a week ago :D ) and it's happened to me a bunch. That.Is.Why.The.Game.Is.Tense. There is no town I dare not go with some retarded zombies. Supply gathering is merely a case of patience in their case. When I have to balance the speed with which I loot a town with the likelyhood of someone spotting me doing so, with the amount of water I sweat out trying to book it away from that zombie who was alerted when I saw that guy who aimed a shotgun at me. THAT is gameplay. Anything else is just a grindfest. I suspect you get zapped so often because you don't sneak ENOUGH. But by all means continue to baaaaaaw about Pkers - you should try playing on a server with RUSSIANS. Hi, I'm alex! Don't worry about the bandit skin I had to kill a guy in se- *MASSIVE AK47 FIRE*

    Rocket has gone too far

I never even knew arma had rainbows - how pretty.

    Arma 3

I'm sure that will become pretty much standard eventually. What I'm more interested in is the physics and collision models. You can go and hang all your updated graphics, new places to go etc etc. There's been altogether too much focus on more things to look at and prettier graphics in PC gaming the last 10 years. The only thing that really matters is the gameplay. Look at the total war series. AMAZING graphical improvement when you compare Empire total war to Rome total war but can you actually get your dudes in a line, on a city wall, facing the enemy when you want them too? Well, yeah, about 1 time in 6. The screwy formation mechanics haven't been fixed in like 5 iterations of the same series. They're too busy looking for the "Buttt MOM! In empire total war I can watch my dudes bayonetting people and it's Kewwwwlll you gotta buy me it im so seriouslyyy!!!" angle I ask you; Has Dayz actually ADDED any graphical improvements to Arma 2 to haul in this many players? No. Rocket realized that with some tweaking he could produce a hardcore zombie survival simulation that provides a TOTALLY different gameplay mechanic to most Arma 2 games. He improved gameplay (or at least diversified it) via a few tweeks, graphics have nothing to do with dayz popularity. Sadly I'm beginning to get the feel (from the demos I've seen on youtube) that Arma3 is just being marketed as a super-cool "photo-realisitc" shooter and other such pap designed to grip the dollar of the lowest common denominator. Why not show off it's modable engine, it's realistic firefights, it's freedom of movement? When I saw that bit in the tech demo about implementing an role-playing-game element I swear I actually face-palmed If Arma 3 was just Arma 2 with a streamlined command system, context sensitive controls and halfway decent indoor combat I would pay another 30 quid for it. If Arma 3 is just Arma 2 with nicer graphics then the ONLY reason I'm buying it is to keep up with the modding community. I'd be buying it just so I can get the latest dayz and ACE upgrades. I quite honestly don't care about the new island or the improved graphics. If Bohemia concentrated on developing realistic, intuitive gameplay as much as...whatever their names are...concentrated on developing tacticool, twitchy, dreck for their next modern warfare I honestly think they'd do better. But the marketing people want something impressive they can slap people with "HEY! LOOK AT THESE GRAPHICS. GIVE MY GAME FREE ADVERTISING BECAUSE THE SHOTS LOOK GOOD ON YOUR WEBSITE. I CAN'T BRAG ABOUT THE SUBTLETIES OF THIS AWESOME GAME BECAUSE THE ADVERT HAS TO HAVE A BYLINE OF SEVEN WORDS OR LESS. I DON'T REALLY CARE IF THE GAME DOES WELL IN THE LONG TERM BECAUSE INITIAL SALES PAY MY SALARY".
  16. Alexander (DayZ)

Just when I was getting bored with the game...

Wow..... The toolkit goes in the accessories gear box? And I left one behind because I thought I didn't have the space to carry it... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU > : L Back on topic. Rocket launchers are for firing onto the edge of towns to draw a colossal zombie horde methinks.

    Arma 3

I would be willing to pay for Arma 3 and then drop another 30 squid on a Dayz DLC, provided it was "polished" by a larger development team...Rocket supervising obviously.

    Who's got "A LIST"

You know what I'm talking about. Here's a sample of mine in simple Name; Act; Punishment format. Dan, Andy, Menshevik; Killing at spawn. Specifically me; KoS Lucifron, #1EuBandit, Andy (AGAIN); Banditry, ambushing, trash-talking and braggery; Finding your cache, satchel charging it, killing you in the head and then coming down to the south coast for a light tan and some killing you again whilst saying "lol, no one can stand the chernogork bandit111" Legion clan members; Trash talking; firing buckshot at you from 300 meters and running away giggling. I_Kill_You; Mass murder, silent smugness; Kneecapping, taunting, death, plucking of the triddlins, hollowing of the stomach cavity. Then back to the coast to do it again and again and again and again. Anyone else keep detailed notes on who's crossed you?

Why the Anti PvP arguments are pathetic

Fair one, I simply wanted to make my case as strongly as I could and tbh I do regard most of the oppositions points as babyish. But your point is well taken. What passes as normal disputation amongst me and my friends (who are all argumentative) may not pass muster here. OK. I think that is the main reason so many players are complaining about it. It's not becouse they don't like a challange, but becouse the balancing is so off. I really fail to see how it could be "rebalanced" without destroying the PvP aspect. What are we to do, penalize people for being bandits by screwing with their graphics like they're having some sort of rage fit? If you penalize people via some sort of script for just taking the choice to murder and rob people you're severly choking player choice off. How ARE we to "rebalance" this issue without penalizing bandits to an unrealitic extent? I know it's just a zombie game but key to it is immersion (viz' the long walking distances, food requirements etc) penalizing via a scripted punishment rips the heart out of that. Not so, my man. Only the good may trade reliably with the good. Ever tried getting a trade going with someone when you're on your own as a bandit with a sniper rifle? I have. You are viewed with EXTREME suspicion by both them AND other bandits. You constantly run the risk of being shot out of hand - this has happened to me. Survivor skinned people can trade much more easily. I was thinking about some sort of "reputation system", we can do this without killing the immsersion. Supposing this was all real and you encountered someone who killed for loot. He would probably come off as being slightly...weird...in his conversation and mannerisms. You might just "feel" he was a "wrong'un". - maybe when survivors look at bandits there could be some sort of visual clue. The more people the bandit has murdered (as opposing to other bandits he has killed) the more his outfit changes until he he looks like a total badass. This would be a strong indicator NOT to deal with someone. Possibly to kill him before he kills you. The whole point of providing a bandit skin is to clue other players into the idea that you DO kill people. This is slightly offset by the fact that most "bandits", me included, killed in self defense. Under my idea someone who has killed a dozen survivors would have a radically different skin. Wearing a 2 kill bandit skin Maybe because you had to kill some people trying to kill you...somewhat believeable that it was self defense. Wearing a skin that indicates you have slain 30+ men. Hey...this guy looks freaking DODGY to me...you see what I'm saying? It's somewhat realisitic because someone who kills for loot might be e.g. wearing a mixture of their clothing, it might be covered in blood-splats, he's more likely to be a loner so his clothes will be rugged etc... Exactly. A completely functional direct voip system would do wonders. I shall. But do you want to copy and paste them to hear because it looks like this is becoming the biggest repository of PvP gripes / change suggestions?
  21. Alexander (DayZ)

    Who's got "A LIST"

I forget, which server do you usually play on? US3 or NY3?
  22. Alexander (DayZ)

    Ye olde direct voip fiasco.

I'll be brief so I don't encounter the old tl;dr nonsense: Direct voip is pretty damn important. I find myself bypassing many trade opportunites and have had to shoot people who probably just took me for a bandit (just because I was I was wearing a bandit skin - TYPICAL :P ) because I can never be sure it will work. Who here has the low down on the situation? I've bound my own key to direct comms, my mic works fine I know because I've talked to some people and been strength / clarity 10 / 10 but others say they can't hear me at all. And I can't hear them even when they tell me they're transmitting. Sometimes I can see their character's lips moving, but still hear no sound. Is this a server issue, a player issue (people not setting their sound up right) a combination of both? Additionally: I move that we sticky a post about direct comms and the necessity of binding it to it's own key. I'm almost certain that unless you do that it won't work at all. I've bumped into people who said they've never got it to work, given them this advice, and had them come straight on "hello hello testing". So whatever else is up it looks like that is a necessary first step. Get those who want to taking the first step. I just think this is a big issue because I've met a lot of bandits who only killed because they couldn't talk.

    Question Here~

You should be aware that the man who created this mod, frequents this forum, and bans people, WORKS for the people who made ARMA II CO. See ya later alligator, in a while crocodile.
  24. Alexander (DayZ)

    Ye olde direct voip fiasco.

And that's why I probably shouldn't question your methods. Meanwhile in an alternate dimension: Alexander posted: So when are you going to get round to fixing all these ****s spawning down at chern with mg's - I have to spend ten minutes blah blah blah blah AND WHAT ABOUT THIS DIRECT VOIP - SOME GUY KEEPS TALKING AT ME AND IT'S ANNOYING RANT : D Thanks for the explanation rocket, I'll pass it around. I'm sure the code team will get right on it after the company sees how much money you're making them!
  25. Alexander (DayZ)

Why the Anti PvP arguments are pathetic

Wrong. I guess if you finally shut your face you'd be one less post pathetic than me by your reasoning - and I don't doubt you'd count it as a victory, despite the fact we are not competing. Good to know you're keeping on the sunny side. :D Sounds like a plan to me. Back to the case it is, huzzah!
