Best places to set up a camp/base

In a forest, by a clearing so you can remember where your camp was, but not enough to see the camp from the clearing. Personally I like setting my camps in the lower three or four clicks for easy access to the coast towns, since if you have a camp you probably have endgame gear and the only things left to do are sniping people in Cherno and hoarding cars. Also! hoard your cars half a click from your tents. That way you don't lose everything in one go. -

Agreeing with this. I've used NVGs and the game becomes easymode against players and zeds. Maybe they could mod the flashlight to be one of those chest ones or being able to use it along with a gun, tho. -

I play it in two Stage one: no gear, acquire winchester/enfield/get lucky and find an AK or something Stage two: Kill a guy who has better loot than me, get his loot, kill another guy, acquire all tools in the game, ALICE, military grade guns, food, and medical supplies after half an hour and three shots in game -

Private servers don't give a fuck. I exclusively play on one of them, cool people and you won't get shot on sight since you have both sidechat and a Mumble server to rely on for communication. 7/10 encounters that don't outright start with hostility for me end up in me saying a location on side or mumble and whoever's there telling me he's friendly over either. Besides, a couple tweaks on the rules increase the vehicle spawns, and the server being passworded keeps out hackers, and the private hive keeps out hoppers and such. It's how DayZ should be. To the people saying private servers don't help with developement: It should certainly say something about the developement if people are buying servers to disconnect them from the hive and have fun, shouldn't it? And we run the latest alphas and betas, so we get the same problems and bugs other servers do other than the large-scale hive-related ones, and we still report them to the forums. -
Aye, make the fishing boat go at 60 km/h after a bit of buildup. I can run faster than it's current speed. And it makes no sense that you can store tons of tanktrap kits in a car yet you can't put a spare jerry can in the boat.

No, fuck you, with a crappy engine, exploits up the ass and an even crappier anticheat system comes cheaters. I've seen Starcraft matches and Dota matches and fucking competitive TF2 matches. There's no cheaters there. -

The only good solution to this is letting players decide where they want to spawn, not pinpoint it but maybe something like divide the coast into four or six chunks and let them decide from those. Hate having to kill myself over and over again to get back with my friends after dying. -

Help Manually Updating?

Latin Geek's quick and handy and raw text based guide to installing DayZ like a pro without Six or any other bullshit -- Download Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead on Steam (you brought trouble upon yourself by buying it retail, suck it up) -- Run Arma 2 as administrator -- Run Arma 2 OA as administrator -- Download the latest DayZ files from any of the mirrors. You need all of the ZIP files. -- Download the latest Beta Patch (it's the larger link on the top bar you shit'ead) -- Install the beta by extracting the .EXE installer and running it -- Go to /Steam/Steamapps/Common/Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead -- Make an "@DayZ" folder, and make an "addons" folder inside that one. -- Extract all the files from the DayZ .ZIP files into that "addons" folder. Make sure the raw files are in the addons folder, and they're not inside their own folders. -- Go back to /Steam/Steamapps/Common/Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead -- Rename the ArmA2OA.EXE to something else, like ArmA2OA_old.EXE -- Grab the ArmA2OA.EXE from the /expansion/beta/ folder, and drop it where the other Arma2OA.EXE file was. -- Exit windows explorer, go to your steam library -- Right-click Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, go to properties, edit launch options. -- Add "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@DayZ" to your launch options, without the quotes and before any other commands.
