Reduce The Common Lag In Dayz [Tutorial]

This is essentially the same idea as the Leatrix Latency Fix for World of Warcraft. It's lovely.

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

I've been using CPL Mouse Fix and variations of CPL Mouse Fix since 2000. Every time I format, it's one of the first things I get going. Even with the mouse fixes, DayZ:SA still feels like you're wading through water. If you move your mouse fast, your character barely moves. If you move it slowly, he almost does a 180. It's terrible. Additionally, my in-game sensitivity is literally one sliver of the bar. If I move it up even an 1/8" it feels way too fast. Worst part of the alpha for me. (So far.)

Can we carry too much stuff?

I've been alive on my character for almost two weeks now of SOLID gaming, and it's getting a tad boring. To make it more fun, I dropped all of my military gear. I am using the bare minimum of space which gives the game a more realistic sense of survival to me. In my opinion, we are able to carry too many things. I went from 59 slots (jacket = 8, pants = 6, vest = 8, backpack = 35, four lock boxes = 8) down to 30 (shirt = 2, pants = 4, holster = 4, backpack = 20, got rid of lock boxes) and I haven't looked back. I also dropped my ammo box, so there goes another ten slots. I actually have to make decisions about what I have to sacrifice in order to pick up that food! It's awesome. :3 Am I the only one who thinks we can carry too much? P.S: Pictures of my sexy new bandit:

You Dont Know How Rare TKSO Pants Are,,,,,,

I don't really try to find particular items, I just try to fill particular slots. If I find a Mosin, I'll use it. I won't go bonkers trying to find an M4. I don't go looking for anything because this isn't World of Warcraft and it'd eventually drive you crazy looking for a new full set of pristine gear after every death/reset.

    Screenshot folder ?

Press and hold F12 for a full second to take a screenshot. To find your screenshot, right-click the Steam icon in the taskbar, select "Screenshots", then click "Show on Disk".
  6. As the title details, when I connect to certain Hardcore servers, my Regular character is loaded. Why is this? Is it a known bug?

    Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?

Yeah, but eventually I'm sure the hit-boxes will be better implemented so that, upon shooting someone in the head, you damage his hat/sunglasses while his backpack/vest/shirt/pants remain unscathed. At least I'd hope so, anyway. Also, I'll miss camping the airstrips and taking out server-hoppers. Woe is me. :3

    Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?

Indeed. Last night while alt-tabbing in an attempt to give my friend directions using the DayZDB map, a zombie apparently attacked me, knocking me unconscious. I regained my senses, killed the zed and checked my bag. EVERYTHING except the burlap sac on my head was either badly damaged or ruined. Needless to say, I rage-quit.

    Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?

I'm only concerned because of how hard it is to find people who don't KOS as it is. My prediction is post-patch it's just going to explode. /cry

Haha, great video. Should've had John drop back to your six on the shore and snipe him!

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

The biggest problem in this game for me at this point is the mouse acceleration. I started playing competitive Counter-Strike in 2000 and haven't used mouse acceleration since. Playing/testing DayZ has been a very hard adjustment for me. Almost to the point of it not being worth it, as when I go to play the other games I love, it takes about twenty minutes to get back into my groove.

So I Just Shot A Man.

I've killed at least ten in the past hour. Ah, the joys of killing server hoppers at NWAF.

Anyone Crafted The New Backpack Yet?

I made the 12 slot bag with a burlap sac and rope. Just drag 'n' drop the rope on the sac. Then drag the new bag on the sticks to make the 20 slot bag. It looks okay, but my military gear needs to go. It'll be a fun challenge trying to get by with a minimally sized backpack and the fewer pockets from not using military gear anymore. :3
  16. Okay, from what I've been reading the past week or so since I joined these forums is that the vast majority of players seem to dislike kill-on-sight behaviour. That's cool. I can understand that. I began playing the game disliking the kill-on-sight approach as well. However, what I don't understand is whether or not these people realize just how boring this game would be if no one killed other players on sight. Think about it for a minute... STOP TYPING. Think! Where would the rush go that can only be achieved when you feel your character is in extreme danger? Are artificially intelligent zombies going to replicate that? Nope. What successful video game had no villains?! That's how we should be looking at it. Yesterday I played the role of the hero. Today, depending on my mood, I might play the role of the villain, which brings me to my next point: Being a hero isn't like your blood type. You're not born a hero. Who you are in real life reflects very little on how you play a video game. It's a playstyle that can change day-to-day; heck, it can even change minute-to-minute. Just because you kill someone in DayZ doesn't make you a psychopath in real life. It doesn't mean you're immature, either. All it means is at that particular instance in time you felt like changing your role in this amazing game. Gunfights in this game actually mean something. It's a constant battle for survival in Chernarus, and whether you choose to help out a new player or gun down a veteran for no other reason than you want his supplies, you're contributing to the in-game society. This is the most visceral video game I've ever played. Your survival depends on the decisions you make on the fly. If you run around playing a survival game with the sole intent to help people to the point it jeopardizes your own safety, then technically, you're doing it wrong. The people who are killing on sight technically have a better grasp of the game than you as they're insuring their own survival. They don't care about you. They care about taking your supplies and removing you from the equation so that they can press on. Simply dismissing kill-on-sight while praising hero-type behaviour is ignorant. Am I saying you should never help people? No, I'm not. Help as many people as you're able, as long as it doesn't inhibit your survival. That, to me, is the core ideal of this game. Killing everyone you see on sight is valid. Being a hero is valid. Utilizing both approaches as you deem necessary is valid. TL;DR: There is no right way to play DayZ, so let's stop filling every thread with pointless debate. Play the game how you see fit. Make decisions that insure the survival of your character. In a zombie apocalypse, you need to be able to kill loved ones without remorse in order to protect yourself and anyone else with you. Help others when you can. Kill others as necessary. Live to see another day!
  17. Hah, you'd think so, wouldn't you? :3 I just don't want it to bugger up either of my characters. It only happens on certain servers, though. I just immediately log off and connect to a different server. As of right now I'm properly connected.

One Kill On Sight Thread To Rule Them All!

Again, I posted this because I didn't see any other thread (not post/s) devoted to promoting a melting pot of playstyles. I encourage that in my original post. Be a good guy. Be a bad guy. Be both in the same gaming session. If you peruse even the first page (as I currently post this) of the General Discussion forum, it's flooded with threads pertaining to how offensive killing on sight is. People need to accept that killing on sight is crucial to the adrenaline rush that is DayZ. However, I'm beginning to understand that the general public never will. How saddening. I guess this thread was just my vain attempt at consolidating a whole plethora of bullshit into one centric area of the forums.

One Kill On Sight Thread To Rule Them All!

I'm sorry if I've offended you, but I was unable to find a thread pertaining to this specific issue in the manner I've presented it. After sifting through countless posts of people saying things along the lines of, "amg if ur a fkn kos ur a fgt fkoff," or, "if ur not palying teh gaem as a her0z den ur doin it wrogn," I felt inspired to attempt to address what people think of this particular issue in an intelligent manner. Again, I'm sorry if I've somehow offended you. I appreciate that there is a search function. As I mentioned, I used it before posting. I even used it again to make sure that I didn't miss something earlier. Of all of the nonsensical threads on this forum, I'm surprised you picked mine to denounce in such a fashion. I put a fair amount of thought into it and attempted to insure it was well-written. Maybe if you point out that there's a search function in enough threads someone will make you an admin. If there's some way I can help expedite that process, let me know. I'd love to help! Written with lots of love, Ricky-poo

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

@OP: No we don't. That's stupid. If people choose to wear an identifiable item as part of a clan/tribe, that's fine. But making a mechanic to identify someone based solely on their actions is, like I said, stupid.

    Long Range Scope?

I find a lot of can openers in the jails, lately. On the sink downstairs, and sometimes on the lockers upstairs. Also, ATC towers in the airstrips/fields can spawn them too.
