This thread makes so much sense. I'm pleased.

That's all DayZ is... no base-building, no barricading, can't even store stuff in tents at the moment due to persistence being disabled... So yeah, DayZ is basically a slightly more intense, horribly unoptimized shooter at the moment. Messing with people isn't even fun anymore. I just put 'em down, yo.

DayZ: the only game where you'll run around for four days to get one kill.
-
Not to be a dick (dick comments always begin like that), but I assume you don't run high resolution textures with 300+ mods in Skyrim and maintain 60 FPS @ 1080p. Even without recording. Skyrim with normal textures can be run by a fairly shitty PC. Why should your PC "demolish" DayZ? It's an average PC. My son has almost the exact same setup, except he's running a 760 Ti and his settings are all at or around medium. That's to be expected. When has the RV engine ever been optimized to begin with? Arma 2 and 3 don't run that well either.

TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
Grimey Rick replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I've seen a few videos on YouTube similar to the one @freethink posted claiming it's helped performance in DayZ. That's kind of one of the reasons I wanted to try it. Keep in mind the computer I'm running now is under six months old. When I first threw Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on it, after performing the normal "optimizations" it ran nowhere near as smooth as it is right now on Windows 10. The driver support is leaps and bounds ahead of Windows 7, too. After a fresh format of Windows 7, it took 10-15 minutes of installing chipset drivers, LAN drivers, USB 3.0 drivers, etc., before even thinking about running Windows Update. Then (even with SP1 installed via disc) you'd have to download hundreds of updates. It took several hours to get Windows 7 up to date and optimized. While not a huge deal, for someone who regularly formats like myself, it was a huge PITA. I'll keep this thread updated with any issues I run into. Hopefully they're minimal, as Windows finally feels like it should. You can set it up exactly like Windows 7 if you want, too, so everyone wins. ;) EDIT: Rather than multi-posting, ninja edit! This is kind of what I'm thinking. I have no tangible proof/knowledge that this is the reason, but it's the biggest difference between 7 and 10. DayZ just feels smoother. It's hard to describe. I'm not saying it plays DayZ flawlessly, as DayZ still has to be optimized on their end, but there is DEFINITELY less FPS lag. EDIT 2: I forgot to mention how much faster it loads and closes when you're trying to exit. DayZ would often hang for me upon exiting; with Windows 10, it closes ten times faster. -
What is the best way to leave a written note? I want your opinions.
Grimey Rick replied to Lorax's topic in General Discussion
I kept my first Hardcore (now "1st Person") character alive from December '13 to July '14. About a month into her life, I began writing notes and leaving them in my bag. I put a decent amount of thought into them. Where did I end up dying after seven months? I fell ten or so stories through the staircase in the clock tower in Novodmitrovsk. No one would've even seen them. :( -
I have to ask, why do you need a second character slot? Seems like a massive waste of money.

Oh. Could've sworn I've seen Orlok close threads on the Steam Community pages. -
It's a bad idea that won't happen for multiple reasons, the most important being what a guy above me already mentioned: revenge kills. Gear up two characters, keep them at NWAF. PvP as normal until your first character dies. Immediately switch to your second character, get a revenge kill, drop all of your assailant's gear on the ground, log off, make new character, run to your original corpse and the corpse of your murderer, profit. Rinse and repeat.

Because the forum moderators also moderate the Steam forums, methinks. -
DayZ REALLY needs to add basebuilding or barracading
Grimey Rick replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
K. There's a difference between constructive criticism and blatantly bitching for no reason other than to see your words on the screen. Constructive criticism has already influenced many positive changes to DayZ. It's still cheaper than it will be at launch. So, yeah, discount. As far as it being a terrible argument, you're right. People raging that DayZ is so slow to develop have literally no leg to stand on. The projected release has always been minimum 2016. They're still on track as to where they told us they'd be. Also, I guess you fell for the greasy salesman's pitch, eh? Hopefully you learned your Early Access lesson. It's definitely not for most people. There's an obvious difference between releasing patches shortly after a game's initial launch, and a virtually broken game in alpha state. Content patches that release new content in dribs and drabs are a world apart from what DayZ is currently going through. Because, like, they're still, y'know, MAKING THE GAME. <_< -

Grimey Rick replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
What the actual fuck are you going on about? DayZ is in the alpha phase. DayZ isn't labeled with a big fat disclaimer EVERY TIME we log in because it's finished. It's missing half of its content for Christ's sake. Now, if this thread was discussing the Arkham Knight release, you'd be 100% justified in bitching about it. Why? Because Batman was a "finished" game plagued with a plethora of issues. It was virtually unplayable on PC. It was arguably in worse shape than most Early Access games. -
Server reset while in a bus = insta dead on login

OMG, I literally JUST killed some guy on sight who was randomly standing in a bus. Awkward... -

And they'd be correct. You just proved my point tenfold, lol. Don't want to play a buggy mess of a game? Don't pay for Early Access of a game. Seems pretty straight forward. Do you guys feel that constant complaining is going to expedite development? It won't, so why bother? Just keep submitting bug reports until 1.0; that's all you can do, and what you paid for. You're already getting the finished game at a discount, you just need to wait for it to be a finished product. -

Dean leaving was a known fact a good year beforehand. Video games take a long time to make, believe it or not. What do you think the developers are doing every day? Partying? Dean staying wouldn't have sped up the process. In my opinion, he hindered it more than he helped it. The people who praise him for his ground-breaking idea of throwing infected into Arma tend to breathe heavily through their mouths. When you give someone your money to play Early Access, you're doing it in good faith. I'm assuming you're younger; if DayZ's development is "un-fucking-acceptable" to you, I wish you luck during your first house purchase/construction. -
1) Does it matter? 2) Does it matter? 3) Does it matter? I hope I've covered everything.
-
Why are you setting most settings to minimum? Crank everything to maximum. Your system can easily offload most of the processes to your GPU. I'm running with everything on maximum (system in my signature) and, while not achieving 100 FPS, I rarely dip below 50 in cities.

I find it funny people are still bitching about everything. You signed up to Early Access of your own volition. Nobody forced you at gunpoint. Literally, the only thing we can do is wait. Once you've accepted that, your life will become much more peaceful. Channel that negative energy into raising your DayZ babies. -
It definitely doesn't support SLI, so I doubt CF is supported at this time.
-
I'm putting my money on a collision. When you're being driven around, you're not seeing what the driver is seeing. You might have seen a lazy stop, but he might have slammed full speed into one of the dozen new road blocks scattered around the mid-west of the map. I've tried to snipe people through truck windows, and unless you have the right angle, it's very hit or miss (pardon the pun). Sometimes you'll nail them, and other times you'll just see sparks ring out around their head shortly followed by them speeding away.
-
They've been the cause of numerous crashes and inventory issues. Item-ception, items being deleted inside them upon logging in, server lag. Not to mention the "View Contents" feature is pretty new. You used to have to drop them on the ground, risking them disappearing or the server resetting. So yeah, I feel pretty justified in labeling them a hindrance.
-
Holy crap guys, stop whining. Who even used any of the containers to begin with? They've been a hindrance since launch - PITA to use. They'll fix it, though. In the meantime, go buy a real first aid kit and wrap your faces in gauze to absorb all of the snot and tears.
