I've yet to break a leg at log-in, but my character cries out in pain and my screen flashes red every single time.

Turn off post-processing and crank your gamma until they're properly implemented. In the meantime, stop complaining how bad everyone is for not playing "properly". If it was the "proper" way to play, you wouldn't be able to edit either of these options.

Elektrozavodsk → Chernogorsk → Chapaevsk → south-western airstrip → Balota → military base north of Kamenka → Zelenogorsk → Green Mountain → military base south-east of Vybor → Vybor → north-western airfield I generally do that when I'm bored and none of my friends are on. When I get to NWAF, I generally log out for an hour or so to clear my head and do something else. When I get back on, I repeat the same thing in reverse. I don't consider it server-hopping as it takes me much longer than the thirty minute cooldown to complete, and like I said, I generally take 45-60 minutes to stretch and clear my head.

Says the guy who rattled the hornet's nest to begin with. ANYWAY, I'm currently testing on my regular character how many M4A1 shots it takes to kill my son's character with and without a vest. It took two M4A1 shots to the chest to knock him unconscious without the vest, and it took five M4A1 shots to the chest to knock him unconscious with the vest. That's three shots extra without anything even in the vest. Once we find another vest, I'll fill it full of canned beans and try again.

Alternatives to the ballistic helmet
Grimey Rick replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
I mentioned in another thread that they effectively stop a head-shot from an M4A1. While it may not be much protection, it gives you protection from a bullet that otherwise would've capped you. -

I have several morphine injectors on both my hardcore and regular characters. Hit me up if you need a hand. -
How much authenticity is too much?

But people who play a survival game want to do just that, survive. A properly orchestrated post-apocalyptic zombie game with environmental hazards, health ailments, hunger, thirst, other players, and of course, zombies, would be amazing. -
Will they make any of the zombies faster than us?
Grimey Rick replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
They already did. It's on par with the normal sprinting speed, now. -
You're what they call a moron. I pointed out the bug. Then he neglected to realize I had already pointed out the bug, and pointed it out himself. I reiterate what I had already pointed out, in a vain hope that he'll realize what had happened. Enter you, pointing out something completely pointless for the sake of calling someone a troll. Let's compare helpful/contributive posts, sir. This is the reason I am losing faith. /shrug

Was I really lucky or was this a stranger
Grimey Rick replied to doctorwhy's topic in General Discussion
This. -
Okay, yeah, the bullet shot through my backpack without damaging anything only to ruin my gun-holster at the end of its journey. You do realize I said I was shot in the back, right? Otherwise, I'll have to chalk your comment up to illiteracy.

What's your favorite house/building in the game to acquire items?
Grimey Rick replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
All of them except the ones that don't currently spawn loot? -

Add beards. Problem solved. EDIT: For the ladies, maybe let their hair get longer. I guess this would also apply to the guys, too. /ahem So let me try that again: add beards and longer hair. The longer your character lives, the more unhygienic (and thus respected) they appear. In the game, this means you're doing well. In real life, it means you're doing poorly. It's so bizarre, it just might work! :3 -
Truth. I was shot twice in north-west airfield from behind which turned out to be some half-geared bambi getting very brave. The funny thing is that I was able to turn around while drawing my SKS, kneel, then put three bullets into him. He died-ed. :T As a result of being shot, somehow my formerly pristine gun-holster was ruined. This from being shot in the back. The back. Ruined gun holster. The bullet apparently superseded physics avoiding my backpack full of stuff and followed a Matrix-like path around me to strike my gun-holster. Currently broken, in my opinion.

How much authenticity is too much?
Grimey Rick replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I was torn on this issue. I tripped the other day running up the stairs to the top of the air traffic control tower. My initial reaction? "WHAT IN THE COMPLETE ACTUAL F*** JUST HAPPENED?! SERIOUSLY?! TOO FAR, DAYZ, TOO FAR." However, later, after putting some thought into it, I decided that I actually like the idea. We're running around with a lot of gear on our backs; combine that with clunky weaponry, tools and miscellaneous other items, and you're going to have random trips and falls. I think this is an issue that will really force you to decide what kind of game you're looking for. -
You need the RIS Handguard.

How much authenticity is too much?
Grimey Rick replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I really, really, really hope it's not working as intended in its current form. I was shot six times by an SKS-toting marksman tonight, and I didn't die. I didn't even bleed. My shirt, vest, pants and everything contained therein were systematically obliterated, but... but... I didn't even bleed! I should've been dead. Period. -

In my humble opinion, we need to start stepping up the realism in combat. The last patch that added items absorbing damage from incoming ballistics was a step in the opposite direction. I am not an expert on munitions, but I'm fairly certain that a 51mm bullet from a Mosin-Nagant is going to pierce through your can of beans, vest and shirt on its way to piercing through your chest. I could be wrong, and if I am, please correct me, but having to shoot someone three to four times is borderline ridiculous. I would far rather they kept the old system of almost instant death when shot by almost any gun. That seems more realistic to me. We're survivors who're probably scared out of our wits and are [assumingly] not trained in the use of weapons and general ranged combat. We're regular people. Adding to that, the current implementation of melee weapons is fairly bizarre. Why do I have to slash a zombie twenty times with the machete before he dies? I have to hit him three or four times in the head before he drops. This goes for the crowbar, baseball bat and adjustable wrench. These are all items that would perpetually cause your head to explode upon impact. What gives? I'd like to be able to run around with something besides the fireman's axe without worrying about sacrificing the effectiveness of my character. Thoughts? -
We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
Grimey Rick replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
Really? Kids? Why are they kids because they kill on sight? I'm 29 and I used to prolifically kill people on sight until they introduced the logout timer. Now I hold people up and generally let them go. At the very least, I've severely assuaged the genocide that was fueled by my distrust of other players. I still kill on sight from time to time. Do you think it's fair to judge people based on how they decide to play a certain game? If that's fair game, then I'm assuming from your general lack of grammar, punctuation and sentence structure that you're a twelve year old miscreant who's flunking out of school. Is that fair? No, it's not. Maybe you were in a rush when you typed your response, or better yet, you just don't care. That's how I play DayZ. I don't give a rat's ass how other people think the game should be played. I play the game how I want to play it, and I have fun in so doing. We don't need to label heroes and bandits, because quite simply, neither actually exists. It's something a lot of you people are trying to drag from the mod, something that the lead developer has said he dislikes and doesn't see implementing any time soon, if ever. So yeah, the masses need to stop whining about this, and this thread needs to finally die and begin decomposition. TL;DR: Game is fine without labeling "bandits" and "heroes", neither of which technically exist. There are no bandits. There are no heroes. There are people making decisions in a game of survival. -
I play the game how it's intended to be played on hardcore. When I want to dick around with friends and shoot people, we play on regular, because, who cares about regular? Regular mode bambi beatdown starring DeatHTaX! Literally 50 bambies were slaughtered that night. /sigh. Memories.

Heroes are balanced in real life, right? You all strive for realism in this game, right? Who knows who's toting a gun these days, ready to hold up a store? That's the whole point. her·o·ismˈherōˌizəm/nounnoun: heroism 1. great bravery. synonyms: bravery, courage, valor, intrepidity, boldness, daring, audacity, fearlessness, dauntlessness, pluck, stout-heartedness,lionheartedness; More -
How to zero in with mosin when bolting takes eye off target?
Grimey Rick replied to Highlander007's topic in General Discussion
Military snipers from the US, UK, and other countries that adopt their military doctrine are typically deployed in two-man sniper teams consisting of a shooter and spotter.[5] A common practice is for a shooter and a spotter to take turns in order to avoid eye fatigue.[4] In most recent combat operations occurring in large densely populated towns such as Fallujah, Iraq, two teams would be deployed together to increase their security and effectiveness in an urban environment. A sniper team would be armed with their long range weapon, and a shorter ranged weapon to engage and protect the team should enemies come in close contact. German doctrine of largely independent snipers and emphasis on concealment developed during the Second World War have been most influential on modern sniper tactics, currently used throughout Western militaries (examples are specialized camouflage clothing, concealment in terrain and emphasis on coup d'œil).[6][7][8] EDIT: Source. -

mosin + long range scope -> new aiming behaviour?
Grimey Rick replied to Ovomaltine's topic in General Discussion
The Mosin is currently trash for the reasons mentioned above and the fact that damage is currently broken. Shooting someone with a Mosin 3-4 times in the chest before they die is not uncommon. Avoid it for now. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
