TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.
Grimey Rick replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Running Windows 10 Pro now. The Insider Preview is finished. It's pretty sweet, aside from a few aggravating minor bugs that are easy enough to fix yourself. Windows 10/10, would upgrade again. -

Lag during fire fights - A specific question

I haven't noticed this on my end. I just mowed through a guy with my MP5-K earlier in CQC. I do, however, try to avoid CQC as much as possible as it's a fucking train wreck in general. -
It's not a valid complaint at all. Not yet. Read this. "Beta, named after the second letter of the Greek alphabet, is the software development phase following alpha. Software in the beta stage is also known as betaware.[3] Beta phase generally begins when the software is feature complete but likely to contain a number of known or unknown bugs.[4] Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues and may still cause crashes or data loss. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. The process of delivering a beta version to the users is called beta release and this is typically the first time that the software is available outside of the organization that developed it. Beta version software is often useful for demonstrations and previews within an organization and to prospective customers. Some developers refer to this stage as a preview, prototype, technical preview / technology preview (TP),[5] or early access. Some software is kept in perpetual beta, where new features and functionality are continually added to the software without establishing a firm "final" release." EDIT: teh splelingz

Rule #27: In the wonderful world of Chernarus+, when you flee battle whilst dodging and weaving, you'll survive another day 95% of the time. -
Well, I've never tested it on an "antique" computer before, so I guess YMMV with this program. I originally installed it expecting great things, and was fairly let down when it literally made no difference whatsoever. On top of that, the recording software blows. >:(

Why can't you?

This is probably the third time I'll link this in a thread pertaining to Razer's Game Booster. It simply doesn't work. I've used it (two separate times, the second after a friend telling me how much better it had gotten since the first time I tried it -- it hadn't) and it did literally nothing for me, just like the article I linked. All it does is kill some background applications, which you can do yourself. @OP: If it helped you that much, you'd be better served with a format of your operating system's hard drive.

...exactly, therein lies the problem. They shouldn't even have the option to suicide to make the game easier. This is a fucking survival game, right? If you get a crappy spawn, so be it, them's the cards. If you happen to spawn near Elektro, consider yourself lucky. It takes at most 45 minutes to run from one end of the map to the other, so I'm not sure where you're getting this "three hour" figure. Just because you want to save ten minutes running to your friends isn't even remotely close to a good excuse for them to prevent suicide spamming.
-
Yeah, none of your post really has anything to do with the current spawning system. It needs fixed, whether or not the map is diverse enough at the moment. Loot diversity will come. DayZ is a survival game. If you get an underwhelming spawn, that's the card you drew, so deal with it.

I'm sorry, wife. I shouldn't have smothered you in front of our children when you asked for my help bringing in groceries which ended up distracting me long enough to get me sniped at Veresnik. -

Didn't this exact thread just happen? Some guy talking about poop being smeared everywhere or some such? EDIT: Ah, here it is! http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/226464-dirty-building-interiors/?fromsearch=1 Thanks, Mr. Search. -
It wouldn't be able to, I don't think. Worst case scenario, if one was to fall off a ladder/building within the timer, it would allow one to quickly gather up the loot one had acquired since spawning shortly beforehand. If anything, it'd be a crutch to new players, I guess. The timer could also be reduced to, say, fifteen minutes. Now that I'm thinking about it a bit more, thirty minutes might be excessive. Fifteen minutes is still enough time to discourage people from suicide "spamming", and would be more lenient to "accidental" deaths.
-
I read the post where you mentioned persistence and the central loot economy. I don't understand how that will solve the suicide epidemic, though. It'd keep people more spread out over the map, but if you died in Elektro (for example), it still wouldn't prevent the person you just killed from spawning near you via constant suicides and revenge killing you. In the finished game, I'd like to see players spawning at least a couple of kilometers from where they were killed. If they commit suicide after spawning, I'd like to see them spawn in the same place. This suicide rule might only last a half hour after respawning. Committing suicide after the initial half hour timer would cause you to spawn somewhere else as per normal. With a system like this, players could not suicide for their own benefit, and suicide "spamming" would no longer be viable.

He's playing in 4:3 instead of 16:9. I actually find it easier to shoot people using 4:3. -
I think Imp was referring to NWAF/Veresnik/northern military areas, where people go to PvP anyway. Killing them there is better than killing them on the coast, because on the coast they can quickly suicide respawn, run back to where they died, salvage a gun from their body, and get a cheap revenge kill. If you're fighting someone in Veresnik and you kill them, they're not getting back to their corpse. That knowledge lets you take your time when you're stalking groups of players, as it should be. The Lone Wolf playstyle is very effective against groups. I used to partake in organized PvP matches in DayZ when the Standalone was new with four of my friends. We would challenge other clans to 5v5 matches, we'd all hop on TeamSpeak, and we'd mutually agree to a random location to battle in. Long story short, I always sniped and would obviously hang back. The odd times my friends got themselves killed, I found it much easier to kill the remaining three-five people by myself, as I didn't have to worry about shooting my buddies. I often take out groups of people in DayZ; 90% of DayZ players are terrible, lol. I used to play on the CQF server and would often take out their "patrol squads" they'd send to "protect NEAF" (when it was still worth visiting before the revamp). Good times. P.S: CQF and VX9 suck.

Should be able to, yup. As long as it's Windows 7 or 8. -

I dunno how that works. I've got legitimate copies of Windows 7 and 8, so that's two free upgrades to Windows 10 when it officially launches at the end of July. I know guys who've been using Windows 10 for almost a year now, and they haven't paid for it yet. -

Just a quick update: So far, every game I've tried so far (including Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Dying Light, DayZ, Arma 3, and H1Z1) feels much smoother on Windows 10 than Windows 7. I'm genuinely curious as to whether this is due to DX12 or not. Yes, it's a fresh install (although my previous Windows 7 install was less than six months old), but out of the box, Windows 10 still feels so much better. I haven't tweaked any of the games I mentioned; I just installed them, fired them up, set every setting to its highest, and started playing. The only gripe I have so far is with Microsoft Edge. I've been trying to use it more instead of Google Chrome, and while it's a blazing-fast browser (granted I'm on a 150/50mbps connection), small things like keyboard shortcuts (for example, in this reply box, CTRL + B causes backwards text input instead of bolding text) are really hard for me to adjust to. I never realized how reliant I am on keyboard shortcuts until I installed Windows 10. :( -
