Once upon a time in Balota, a medic was born...
Grimey Rick replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I can confirm this also works with saline bags. I AM THE ULTRA MEDIC NOW. -
Because: guns + people + no real consequences = no real reason not to shoot the other person In the real world you'd see more people working together because 1) it's real life, empathy isn't evoked nearly as strongly in a video game as it would be if you were face-to-face with someone, and 2) getting hurt sucks.

Grimey Rick replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Surprisingly, no, not at all. One of the reasons I kept making a metric fuckton of them when I found out I could do it was because I wanted to test a theory I heard about lag in cities being caused by the excessive amount of items within close proximity to one another. In my opinion, the item count has nothing to do with lag (at least for me) as I experienced no frame drops duplicating at least 200 splints, as well as the fact that even small villages like Msta cause me to lag almost to the same extent as Elektrozavodsk. -
If DayZ feels American, then the forums DEFINITELY feel European.

But seriously, I'm reporting the bug now. Thank you for your stalwartness in these dark, alpha times, good sir. -
The only suggestion I would agree with would be for every person I kill, my forked tail grows another 6" longer. After 50 kills without provocation, I want some horns. I'd wear those proudly. I've replied to all of your posts in the manner in which I believe you are trying to present them. I get what you're saying, trust me. I just don't necessarily think that 1) people are going to respond well to these types of thread at this time, as there's currently such an influx of KOS-related threads on these forums, and 2) the idea behind the topic is going to provide any type of improvement to the game in its current state. Suggestions that are garnered by analyzing the kill on sight mentality are only going to be used to diminish/eliminate kill on sight behavior, no? If we ended up ridding the community of people who kill on sight (myself included), we'd easily lose 60% of it. On top of that, where would the fun be? Murdering poorly implemented zombies? Forming large bands of like-minded individuals to... pick berries? There'd be nothing to do.

So what if I change my shirt? Is that blood forever etched into my skin only to seep through every shirt I ever wear from now until the end of DayZ?

Post your PC specs, in game settings and FPS here
Grimey Rick replied to Caboose187 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
No, he's full of beans. My rig is tweaked to fuck (granted it's three years old) with a processor running almost 500MHz faster than his (a comparison between our processors can be found here, where the only category his wins in is single-core performance), I have faster GPUs also running in two-way SLI, and as of right now SLI is given zero fucks by DayZ and is actually given a severe penalty to performance* near ANY building due to poor optimization and not using more than 50% of each GPU. *deep breath* So yeah, no. *An example of which can be seen below: -
Okay, can you give some examples of potential good ideas that can/have come from trying to brainstorm ways to deter killing on sight? It's really hard for these threads to not turn into a flame war, as people are very opinionated on both ends of the spectrum.

your first interaction with another player
Grimey Rick replied to tyleranator's topic in General Discussion
I met all of my current in-game friends in my first couple of days playing, before I turned to the Dark Side. I didn't really have any negative encounters until about a week after launch. -
I don't think you read my post. You're suggesting that KOS is a problem when it isn't. Killing on sight isn't a problem. Tuer à vue n'est pas un problème. Matar a la vista no es un problema. 視力に殺すには問題ありませ. Статистика по зрению не является проблемой. I did, in fact, read your posts. I read all of the posts I reply to. No feature that is going to be implemented will change my playstyle. If I am ever penalized for playing like this, then I'll move on. The real issue is people using the forums to whine about every little complaint they have about the game. Address that first. EDIT: Because edit.

I play this and people flee in terror: -
KILLING ON SIGHT IS NOT A PROBLEM. IT IS A CHOICE MADE BY PLAYERS IN A GAME. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SHOT UPON BEING SEEN, DON'T BE SEEN. /caps The majority of people who complain are those who get picked off blatantly running through an airfield or city. Would you do so in real life? Nope, you'd be sneaky. It's general laziness that gets people killed on sight.

Why would shooting him make you a dipshit? I personally feel you're a dipshit for letting him live. #opinions

@OP: I think this is a great idea and needs to be implemented. People shouldn't be excluded from a game because they're impaired, within reason. -
What about the times you have someone pinned down in a building? It's kind of tough to call that thirty second window on whether or not to push in.
-
Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
Grimey Rick replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Who cares if you get sniped on the coast? I don't take part in waiting for them to spawn, but I lay fucking waste to new spawns if we cross paths. I've been killed plenty of times as a fresh spawn and I can honestly say I don't care at all. There's nothing to motivate you after three hours of farming for gear, so you have to find amusement somehow. For some, it's being a medic. For others, it's keeping medics employed. -
I consider people attempting to kill me on sight the same as actually sealing the deal, in which case it's a daily occurrence.
-
Camping a corner should be an extremely viable tactic forcing the assailant to take the chance moving into the building. No one's forcing him to enter. (; Unfortunately, due to excessive lag/desync it's generally less than effective.
