I agree with the majority of your post, but 1PP does not remove the ability to peek through walls: EDIT: Because beans. -

No, I'm just trying to come up with a way to combat the plethora of complaints on these forums regarding server-hoppers and ghosters. Also, I get tired of seeing a hundred 2/40 and 1/30 servers, and maybe a handful of 40/40 servers. I've yet to see you make a suggestion. Like what? -

Not to sound too negative, but any clan server I've joined I've been kicked off of within minutes of connecting. The only exceptions are when clans are lurking around airfields waiting for unaware passersby. I'll personally pass on that. I'm sure there's something that could be brainstormed to maintain the incentive to rent a server. But wait, this is the DayZ forum, where everyone knows best. -

If you all selected 200ms (or whatever the ping difference would be, I have no idea) as your maximum latency, you'd be fine. -
Cool story, dude. (Seriously.) I've come to realize that if you stay off the coast, you're more than likely going to meet the decent people. Only go to airfields/cities when you want to unleash some PAIN.

Besides the potential issue with persistent storage, what's the issue with my suggestion? It nullifies server-hopping and ghostingIt keeps the servers fullIt lets you play within a specified latency range so you're not stuck on a laggy serverThe only thing it doesn't currently take into consideration is persistent storage. For me, personally, if I have to choose one server that may or may not be populated when I decide to play just so I can have a completely ridiculous-looking base with military encrypted locks, garages, APCs, tanks, helicopters, etc., I'd rather my system. Give me a tent that I can deploy and store items in that follows me from server to server or something. Set it up somewhere safe, log out. Log in on a random server, tent follows you, go about your business gathering supplies, return to your tent, log out. You'd then also be able to move it around if you wanted, or something. -

I haven't figured this one out. Why would you want to play on a specific server all of the time for any other reason than it's always full? 40/40 servers aren't deathmatch servers, c'mon. The game is best played on a full server where there's more interaction, and less gear farming. Is the point of DayZ the interaction or the amount of beans you can stockpile unsolicited? Private hives bring such stupid mods, though. I recently bought ARMA2 just to try the DayZ Mod and the number of vanilla servers is ridiculously low compared to the amount of "BICYCLE ON SPAWN / GUN ON SPAWN / INDESTRUCTIBLE BASES", etc. Exactly why I feel the main reason this idea won't fly. (; This is the only thing I hadn't considered, regarding the persistent storage. So when persistent storage is implemented, we'll essentially have to choose a server and stick with it, eh? If so, that'll suck. Especially when you want to play, you log on, and your server is 2/40 or something. What is the point of playing on a low population server? :T -
Stay out of my ATC.

It's been fixed on experimental for a while now. If they'd only release the patch... (;
-
The point for me and the majority of the community playing DayZ is to shoot people. If they'd release a patch more than once a month, maybe we'd have some bugs to submit. I think everything's been reported for the last few weeks now.
-
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: isn't this community wonderful? :3
-
That's debatable. On one hand, yes, theoretically this is a good idea. On the other hand, do we want another game where 75% of the map goes unused? Random loot makes just as much sense as concentrated loot, and it'd bring more balance to the game. It'd also make it much easier to deny server hopping.

Switching computers without wipe.. looking for experiences
Grimey Rick replied to Mr Jizz's topic in General Discussion
I switch back and forth between my kid's account and mine on my PC. All of the character data is seemingly stored server-side as I've never had an issue in so doing. -
Wrong. Currently, the point of DayZ is either to kill other players or hide in the northern woods.
-
I prefer ass sprinkles: God bless Cartman and South Park.

I think we just need to cram all of the crying children on their own server so they can work together killing zombies in fastidious fashion. There would be no need for firearms, as zombies can be easily overcome by simple melee weapons. Without challenge, they could organize all of the lame social events their hearts desire: counting the steps from Balota to Vybor, seeing how long they can hold their breath, taking educated guesses on the number of trees there are currently in-game, etc. Yeah, it'd be a fucking wonderful server. COUNT ME IN.

Why do 'heroes' think all fresh spawns are new players?

Shoot at me, miss, then run into the woods. NICE COMBAT LOG BRO.
-
I'd normally agree, trust me, I'd be one of the first to yell blasphemy. However, I'm fairly bored of playing the game in its current unfinished state, so I generally just log onto servers that have just reset and kill server-hoppers. It's much more fun than current end-game. :3 Once the new patch hits, I'll be back into detective/testing mode.
-
Well, there was the fact that he shot at me. I shot at him and hit him, then he turns and runs from the airstrip into the woods to the left of Chapaevsk. There was that. ;P EDIT: I misread that; like I said earlier, we were the only two people on the server. <3
-
I was server hopping looking for victims in Balota, and we were the only two on the server. (; I SERVER HOP FOR BLOOD.

Wild pika-sheriff appeared! EDIT: I added a sheriff hat for you. You have the right to remain classy.
