I'm not complaining about the game itself, but the engine upon which it's based. Arma 2 and Arma 3 are pretty awful as far as performance is concerned. Arma 3 less so than its predecessor, but it's still not even close to being an optimized gaming engine. It frustrates me beyond belief when a game cannot be run well with more than adequate hardware. Anyway, DayZ is a great concept and I have faith that Dean's team will continue to dominate the genre. It's just a shame that they chose to base their standalone product on an awful engine.

Exactly. There are many things about DayZ that I love, but when you look at DayZ and then you look at titles like H1Z1, it's hard to remain faithful that the clunky, glitchy, all around terrible engine that is Real Virtuality can compete against Forgelight. FL just seems to have been made for this type of game, where as RV was most certainly not. I try and keep playing, and while I do enjoy most of my time spent on DayZ, it just feels wrong. It's like an old pair of jeans that have a rip in the crotch: you love them, they're familiar, but they're just not cuttin' it any more. ;P

Well, I've since died since I was standing out in the open on an airfield logging in and getting kicked shortly after for a brief stint, but I did have a lot of small protector cases in my inventory. I've noticed when I carry a lot of containers around silly things seem to happen, but nothing on the scale before.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Grimey Rick replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
So me and my buddy just experienced yet another death via cheats. It's getting a tad ridiculous, especially as it's just slowly getting worse every week. More and more people seem to be cheating as this time a month ago seeing someone using them was rare. Now it's a regular occurrence. Granted, we like to randomly PVP at airfields and around Elektro on our Regular characters, so we pretty much expect to die and have no qualms with it when it happens legitimately. But dying to precision shots taken at you while you're hiding in a room of a building and then all of a sudden seeing "You are dead" is getting pretty old. Add on top of that the kids teleporting around Elektro and Kamyshovo punching you to death, and you've got a pretty good reason to stop playing for a while. I'm remaining hopeful that a ban wave hits soon, because as it currently stands it's pretty pointless to put time into a character unless you want to skulk around the northern woods avoiding everyone. -
Yeah, even with one card running it doesn't give me better frames than a single 580 did. Ah well, back to BF4!
-
You'll definitely hit that "DayZ cap" as I like to refer to. It seems that as long as you have a GTX 580/670 with an i5-2500k or better, you'll get the same FPS as people who have a better rig than you. I just upgraded to a pair of GTX 780 Ti CLASSIFIED video cards, and I'm not seeing any better frames from the GTX 580 I upgraded from. EDIT: However, in Battlefield 4... OMG. xD

...and HELLO 780 Ti Classifieds! <3 Look at the difference in size between the 780s and 580s: I r happeh.

Goodbye GTX 580s, you've served me well...

I didn't go with the K|NGP|N because I'm definitely not looking at LN2 as a cooling source. I don't even like water cooling much, but hey, I might now that I have these new cards. I had an H100i for a brief stint and ended up going back to my Silver Arrow. For an air cooler, this thing is amazing. I was looking at a Koolance kit, but since I don't really need anything more than what I have, I opted not to bother. -

Lolwut? You could build a $600 PC that would outperform mine? I probably won't water cool them as I've been able to crank them to 1300MHz with the cooler they come with. Under load, they're not even hitting 50ºC. That's nuts for air cooling. They're extremely quiet too. They have the same cooler as the SC model, but a completely different PCB... even on air, I've got them running at 1137MHz/1300MHz boost. That's nutty. I have run Skyrim with one and both of them, and I don't really see a difference. I haven't recorded FPS, but it's buttery smooth with one card (with a fair amount of mods). So far I've played ACIV, BF4, Skyrim, Tomb Raider, Arkham Origins and GTA4 w/ IcEnhancer mods without an issue, all on maximum settings. I was thinking of going with the TITAN BLACK as I was also worried about the 3GB of VRAM but from everything I've read and seen in benchmarks it's not fast enough to effectively use all of its VRAM anyway. The only game that really requires both cards to run on Ultra is BF4, so hopefully I'm future proof until the 900 series. I usually skip every second one. This and this. i7-2600K is the most beast processor I've ever had. While it's not the fastest processor these days, it's right up there with the top contenders as far as gaming performance. This thing has been running at 5GHz+ for three years now on air. On top of that, I'm only running on PCIe 2.0 and I've had zero issues, nor do I expect any. When the new line of i7 processors drop, I may consider a new board and chip then. The only reason I'd ever upgrade my RAM is because they don't make this model of G.SKILL RAM anymore. I've never had RAM that maintained such tight timings at such a low voltage. I've also never come close to using up 8GB of RAM, nor do I imagine anyone else here has either when just gaming. (; Lastly, I got the cards for $700 each, shipped. How could I not buy them? (: -
Do these GPU usage fluctuations indicate a bottleneck?
Grimey Rick replied to doctorbadsign's topic in Technology/Programming
Definitely get an i7 for the hyper-threading. I haven't upgraded my i7-2600K for three years nor do I intend to for a while as it still meets every demand on the market for gaming, as well as the fact that it overclocks like a MOTHER. <3 -

Yeah, like I said, DayZ still runs terribly on every computer. You should see what settings GeForce Experience recommends I run it with. It's laughable. -
im not sure upcoming features are "positive" to the game

Because post-apocalypse, the world would obviously maintain, no, improve its level of technology, right? -

I haven't checked actual numbers yet, but BF4 and AC4 run buttery smooth on Ultra in 2160p. DayZ of course still runs like crap in cities, but I'm sure that'll change with further optimization. Pricey, but worth it! -
You should spawn randomly near a random town. To offset the potential abuse of this, if you die within ten minutes of spawning, you should be given a five minute timer before you can spawn again.

It works as of an hour ago. Set your filter to: "DayZ US 1-40" and profit. I hope this doesn't stay around, though. There is so much loot that in one run through the tents you can easily kit your M4 and a few hundred rounds of ammo. It's retarded.

Upgrade time, yessir.. AMD FX-8350
Grimey Rick replied to antykain's topic in Technology/Programming
...what? http://cpuboss.com/cpus/AMD-Phenom-II-X4-965-vs-AMD-FX-8350 DayZ can be forced to use SLI. Not sure about CF as I don't use AMD cards. http://steamcommunity.com/app/221100/discussions/0/648814841936774488/ -
Why dose DayZ wreck my internet for 1-2 mins?
Grimey Rick replied to exomonkeyman's topic in General Discussion
If you're behind a router, go into your settings and mess around with your Beacon Interval. Mine was initially set to 100, but after dropping it in half to 50, I no longer have any issues. -

Too North East / Coastal Focused?
Grimey Rick replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Of course there's more stuff to do in the Mod, it's finished. Putting a hotspot in the middle of the map isn't going to keep people playing; we already have hotspots and people are still leaving. That's going to happen off and on until the game is released, or at the very least in beta. Do I agree that we should have more of a reason to run inland? Yes. Does it really matter and will it affect anything during the alpha? No. -
I have no issues picking people off up to almost 400m. The bullet spread is fine when the MP parts are equipped. MP > stock > CQB

Too North East / Coastal Focused?
Grimey Rick replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
And what exactly are you going to hunt along the coast? You'll get the odd deer stealing apples in a rural area, but the vast majority of wildlife is... in the wild. There will be incentives to go inland. There's a LOT of empty real estate up north along the highway that's undoubtedly going to be used for the production of more towns/cities. As of right now they seem to be working their way outwards from the coast, which again, makes sense. I'd rather they structure the map from one direction to the other in an intelligent manner rather than cherry pick locations all over the place just for the sake of having people run in a different direction to grab loot. It'd be different is this was beta or the first week of release, then I'd be concerned. -
Too North East / Coastal Focused?
Grimey Rick replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
What's the difference? You're suggesting that the Sobors used to be the hot spots, but now they're not. As it's currently implemented, there are many hot spots all along the coast. Is this not a good thing? You'll notice that most modernized areas have the bulk of their resources on the coast for obvious reasons in actuality. Why should Chernarus+ be any different? I think when hunting is implemented there will be much more incentive to head inland. You can still get a ton of equipment heading inland, and I've met many, many people in almost every town whilst playing on full servers. I think the current Elektrozavodsk situation makes people forget that you're not normally going to see half the server in one area, and that player encounters are meant to be fewer and more meaningful. As it currently stands, I think it's fine and that it makes sense. It'll change. -
I've used auto run since my first day. I'm not fucking up my wrist/finger/thumb/pecker so I can be in the "cool" DayZ club of people who think holding W all day makes it more immersive.

Why do you need a PU if you already have a LRS? ;D
