Why does it take so long to reconnect to a server?
Grimey Rick replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I actually just did some testing with a buddy of mine who has a server, and it seems that the first person to connect to a server as it is restarting has to wait a ridiculously long time to connect. We restarted it four times just to be sure (relax, there was no one playing on it). On the first and third attempt I connected first and had to wait a good sixty seconds to connect. The second and fourth times I let my buddy connect first, and he had to wait a minute or so before he could get in. I connected right after he said he was connecting both times and got right in. TL;DR: Don't be the first person to connect to a server that's just restarted. -

The server reset, I didn't ghost them... -
Almost gave up on this game, until last night

Hey, can I borrow your LRS? (; -
Sometimes when I hold my hand over my PC to channel any negative emotions away from it my bandwidth increases, too.

Everyone dies in DayZ. There's a very low skill ceiling to combat in this game, as well. Once you've memorized the towns and popular sniping areas it becomes rinse and repeat gameplay. Other FPS games have a much higher skill ceiling as they focus more on reaction time and aim rather than environment. DayZ would rather focus on clunky, "realistic" (lol) movement and spatial awareness combined with forced mouse acceleration. Also, that guy was blatantly peeking through walls... 0 credibility. If you call that skill, you must LOVE watching videos of people using third party cheats!

Will tents and bases reduce KoS mentality

Has KOS stopped in the Mod? -
You must be referring to the Sporter. ;3 The M4 is DayZ's BFG.

I've been hearing a lot of talk of future optimization that's potentially coming to DayZ:SA. I certainly hope we see that, as it's common knowledge that ARMA in general suffers from excruciating misuse of CPU and GPU resources. For myself, I've always tried to keep on top of my hardware to provide close to, if not the best experience possible. I can't stand sitting down to play a game and having to tinker with the settings for an hour before delving into its content. I want to be wowed when I play a game, even if graphics aren't the game's selling feature. Thus, it's unfortunate for me that I've become a die-hard ARMA and DayZ fan. DayZ:SA has the potential to be really stunning: it's got great landscapes, the sun rays are starting to look beautiful, and the character models are coming along nicely. There is no doubt in my mind that when this game launches, it'll look really good; I just hope it doesn't only look good in still screenshots. I don't have the best computer on the block, but it handles itself quite well. I'm running the latest games like BF4 on Ultra and never dropping below 150 FPS. Tomb Raider is eye candy à la max. Don't even get me started on Titanfall... whenever I play it I revel in its buttery-smooth goodness as it drops some of the sexiest visuals I've seen so far. When I launch Titanfall it makes me want to immediately go romance the wife. ;3 But then I launch ARMA 2, ARMA 3, DayZ:Mod or DayZ:SA and my computer feels like a mighty tiger, the alpha of natural feline predators... trying to thread a needle. For me and many others out there, we need that eye candy delivered at a respectable frame rate to be able to fully appreciate a game. Games have evolved so much in the last twenty years that delivering an amazing game without amazing performance and visuals just doesn't cut it anymore. Graphics wise, even the simplest of titles (think Frozen Synapse) deliver satisfying visuals. It's necessary. I just hope Bohemia Interactive has hired NASA-trained, genetically modified programming ninjas in order to pull it off. So I pose to you two questions, fellow gamers: Does the Real Virtuality engine have what it takes to satiate our hunger? Will we ever get amazing performance on an engine that only really uses a single thread of our processor and not even 50% (in most cases) of our graphics cards? Are you satisfied with 40 FPS? Can you get by with 20? Or do you require 60+ FPS at all times?I'm very interested to hear from you all on this!

You only made one mistake: you forget to make him watch you bang Carl before killing him.

I would've kneecapped him and then teabagged him. You're too nice, Aradia.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Grimey Rick replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, agreed. A lot of the people complaining around here seem like they might be newer to the game. My friends and I will actually server hop looking for other people doing the same, and attack them. Find a server that's just reset with a handful of people on it and scout it out. We'll wait for a few minutes and move on if no one is around. I feel like we're doing a public service as we rarely take any of the loot unless one of us gets hit and needs a new shirt or pair of pants. (; This is probably why we see so many people cheating as we literally JUST PVP at airfields. We love the game and will go back to "surviving" the apocalypse when it becomes actually difficult or until they add in some fun new features. :3 -
@OP: I agree with you. My friends and I follow a code that's very similar. When you play this game, you must expect to die. It doesn't matter how good at ARMA or any other FPS game you are, you're eventually going to get yourself into a shitty situation and pay the price for it. The crossroads you come to when this happens only provides you with two options: Accept your fate, learn from your mistakes, become a better player for it Run back to the location you died yelling obscenities at your assailant or make a post on the forums ranting about how much you hate those who "kill on sight"If you don't want to die and lose all of your gear, this game isn't for you. This game is about enjoying the rush that those moments of peril bring. Don't be mad because most people you run into don't want to be your friend.

I don't notice much cheating when I'm not around an airfield or in Elektrozavodsk/Berezino. It's when you go to these places that you start getting shot through brick walls without having even exposed yourself. I've tested every single wall in the ATC and jail/detention buildings on airfields with an M4A1 and Mosin while shooting at a friend inside. You 100% cannot shoot through these walls legitimately. I've died at least six times since the weekend (literally) while PVPing in NEAF by being shot through the walls of the ATC and jail/detention buildings. The best example of which was when I got hit by one M4 round while under the stairs of the jail/detention building eating. It ruined my shirt, so I crawled to the corner of the building underneath the stairs. A few seconds later, another shot, and I was dead. My friends told me the shots came from sniper hill. They later verified that's where the shots were coming from as a guy crossed the runway in a half dozen teleports and ran inside the ATC where he proceeded to shoot them. He killed two of my friends as they were crouched in the upstairs hallway. My third buddy combat logged. We commended his bravery. (; I guess one could advise others to just stay away from these contested areas, but that's currently where the most fun takes place. I want to see another ban wave pretty soon as this is getting a little out of control. -

If they're already known then why don't you fix them? We're long due for a ban wave. -
Why do people want to tell others how to play?
Grimey Rick replied to AdmiralBull's topic in General Discussion
I feel that people should play however they want. -
I'd love to be able to paint them. I'd also love to be able to paint the Hunting Backpack. I really like the whole "28 Days Later" look. I usually try to get a Wool Coat, Hunting Backpack, Bandana and Gask Mask. The chick at the first of the movie who saved the main character is my hero. <3 It does look kind of like an Assault Vest, but the Tactical Vest has definitely always looked like that. Aye! It's the reason they indefinitely removed it. It interferes with certain backpacks and clothing. It floats too high on your character. UPDATE: I am now dead and the vest is now gone, as was expected. All I do on Regular is get into mindless battles at airfields, so it was bound to happen. I've passed on the legacy to a group of six guys from the [GHOST] clan who thought it would be cool to ghost inside the wall/floor of the NEAF jail in order to kill me. I was deflecting bullets from the walls downstairs and hitting them, so they started taunting me and telling me I'd be dead in a few minutes "when their friend got there". Tactical Vest, until next we meet! /salute

There are TACTICAL Vests and ASSAULT Vests. Totally different. Then there are PRESS Vests and ANTI-STAB Vests. Tactical Vests currently DO NOT spawn.

A player in NEAF. I was looting the bottom floor and I heard someone log in. I ran upstairs and got the drop on him before his gun was out. I told him straight away to drop the vest or I'd pop him. He refused, and it sounded like he was almost in tears. I did what I had to do. (; Stable. Yes, but it was removed a long time ago as it didn't quite fit the character right and was causing graphical errors. They're extremely rare now. Yes? Gas masks look awesome. I don't know how you'd "hack it in" but this was from a guy I killed. Pristine, too.

Yup, it definitely looks like shit. There seems to be an extremely low resolution version of every building that's applied after a couple hundred metres, but as far as being able to view players it hasn't affected me. It looks like you're playing Minecraft when you're on sniper hill looking at the airfield.
-
Strange, because I've played with all of my settings on minimum for a few days not too long ago and was able to spot people from sniper hill in NEAF all the way to the jail closest to Krasnostav. They just appeared like little smudges of black. It made sniping so much easier.
