DayZ is a paradox game - Random thoughts
Grimey Rick replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in General Discussion
At the end of the day, zombies will never be a threat. Ever. We're not going to have State of Decay zombies in this game. We're going to be stuck with zombies that might stop running through walls, might hit a little harder, might run a little faster. Look at Breaking Point. It's on an updated version of RV and it still can't properly handle swarms of zombies. They teleport and glitch all over the place. The only way "realistic" zombies can ever be a threat in any video game is by their numbers. We're not going to have Screamers or Juggernauts, so individually, they'll never be threatening. If this zombie survival game was actually about surviving zombies and each player started with a particular skill they could apply to a community then we wouldn't be having these discussions. There wouldn't be so many rant threads about other players because we'd actually have a purpose and a common enemy. You'd still have your token assholes, but they'd be few and far between. This game has no consequences and no particular direction. The sandbox label only holds for so long. Who gives a damn about barricading areas and building bases when you're just building them to defend against other players? -
"Heroes" in this game are a bunch of idealistic dimwits who run around "saving" new spawns that would more than likely kill said "heroes" if given an instant's breadth.
-
That's far too much thread necrophilia for my tastes.
-
If you're losing the game due to zombies, you're doing it wrong.

Also bullshit. I believe the 91 FPS running around up north as I get around that when I'm stalking NWAF, but you don't get 80 FPS in cities. I'm running almost the exact same rig with two 780 Ti CLASSIFIED cards (I usually just use one for DayZ because the SLI fix is garbage) and an i7 @ 5.2GHz, and the highest I've seen in a city is around 40, on both maximum and minimum settings. If you show me a screenshot, I'll rescind my claim of bullshit. :3

Fix the desync/lag. I'm tired of killing someone, then going unconscious five seconds later Implement a proper system to penalize server hoppers/ghosters. We don't want to wait 5+ minutes to play a game Fix the game so that it uses 100% of our hardware. I can run this game just as well on my laptop as my gaming rig Fix the walls so that we can't peek through them. Game-breaking bug hasn't been fixed since launch Fix the walls so that we can't crawl through them Fix .pbo exploiting Fix gamma exploiting Improve BattlEye so that cheaters are actually, y'know, penalized Remove 75% of the military loot in the game. There are plenty of ways to defend yourself in Chernarus+ without filling every military camp full of (supposedly rare) loot Remove third person perspective. It's stupid. If you disagree, you're stupid Increase peripheral vision in first person perspective Make me want to keep Post-Processing on. Currently it ruins the binoculars, long range scope, and iron sights. Why would I leave this on? And when I turn it off, I lose the ability to tell how healthy I am

Razer Game Booster doesn't do shit. http://www.howtogeek.com/171734/benchmarked-will-a-game-booster-improve-your-pc-gaming-performance/ As far as him claiming 137 FPS in Elektrozavodsk... no. I'm suspicious he didn't just press "F12" and upload an actual screenshot. If someone isn't smart enough to know you can screenshot Steam titles with F12, I doubt they're smart enough to tweak their system to achieve 100+ FPS in one of the biggest, laggiest cities in DayZ. With my computer, I get around 25-40 FPS. I have every tweak out there enabled, my processor and video card(s) overclocked like a mother, with everything on maximum. If I turn everything to minimum, guess what? My FPS doesn't fluctuate, it stays the same. The whole issue is that DayZ uses maybe 20% of my video card(s) and 50% of one thread of my processor. The other threads never see more than 15-17% use.

For all intents and purposes, I kind of doubt we have any legitimate axe-murdering psychopaths on these forums. I think most people play however they feel at any given moment rather than adhering to a strict gaming policy. There are no consequences in this video game and we're intelligent enough to realize this, so we can take on the role of a delinquent and get away with it without having it affect our pscyhe.

Will we have acog and red dot combo and etc.
Grimey Rick replied to king_of_the_beans's topic in General Discussion
I honestly think that the "pristine" condition should be removed, or at the very least toned down. "Worn" should be the pinnacle of loot's condition. 99% of everything this long after an apocalypse would already be used anyway. I actually have more fun when I find a "damaged" PU Scope and pick up a Mosin. It makes it harder to hit what you're trying to hit. You almost have to decide whether or not using it is a hindrance. That, to me, is representative of an apocalypse. -
I don't know about anyone else, but I personally haven't touched a melee weapon since after the first day of the current patch. Two-handed melee weapons are too hard to hit glitchy, teleporting zombies in the head on a consistent basis. I also find that the damage is totally random: sometimes I'll kill a zombie in one shot to the head with a Firefighter Axe, sometimes it takes three. The same can be said about fists. I've killed zombies with one punch to the head from time to time. Usually though, it takes 3-5 punches to the head to kill a zombie. The only real reason I have for a melee weapon is when I'm a fresh spawn in need of a can opener. Strangely enough, the Splitting Axe will somehow open a can of food while only spilling ~20% of its contents. The Machete is also fairly efficient at opening canned food. However, once a can opener is acquired, I promptly drop the melee weapon. It's also nice not having to wait that extra second to put away your gun and then draw your melee weapon in the presence of a zombie/unsuspecting passerby. You can go straight from your gun to your fists very quickly, take care of business, and then switch back to your gun. On top of that, with the recently fixed mouse acceleration, it's much easier to consistently punch other players and zombies in the head. So, with all of that being said, does anyone else avoid melee weapons these days?

Game strives for realism; fists better than an axe
Grimey Rick replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I agree with everything said here, I just find it funny how random the damage seems to be. Sometimes you'll kill a zombie in one hit to the head with your fists. Sometimes it'll take ten punches to the head. I agree with the comments pertaining to the Machete, too. If anything, I generally pick one up if I find one in pristine condition. It doubles as a can opener and more consistently kills zombies in one or two hits to the head. I've just never seen a zombie flick where people run around punching zombies in the head like it ain't no thang, that's all. Because alpha? -
To think how many wars dumb shit like that has started... /mindfuck

So you agree with me... great! I've been saying that throughout the entirety of this thread. DayZ contains elements of twitch, as does almost every other game ever made. To quote myself: All twitch refers to is a situation that forces you to quickly react. That's it. QTEs, being caught in an unfavorable position in a FPS (tactical or not), or any other game that incorporates elements of you using your mouse/keyboard/controller as fast as you bloody can in order to survive is twitch. The only games that aren't/dont are turn-based games in which you can perform your move, walk away from your computer, grab a coffee, come back, and then react to your opponent's move. Am I claiming DayZ is a twitch shooter? No. It just has elements of twitch. The people in this thread claiming that you don't have to quickly react in order to survive in a close quarters situation are either really stubborn, or really stupid. Do I run into a building with my AWP and Deagle, hear an enemy behind me, jump and do a 180º turn whole no-scoping him in the face? No. But if I'm flanked by someone who got the drop on me I'm reacting just as quickly in order to kill him and survive, perhaps even more so. Anyway, this topic has been beaten to death and I was happy that it died already. If you can't decipher from this post (let alone my previous posts) what exactly I'm trying to communicate here, then I don't know what else to say. =) /tapping out

"Failed to load profile. You character have been resetted"
Grimey Rick replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
It happens every now and then to me. It hasn't happened in a long while as I've stuck to the same half a dozen servers for the past couple of months. Your best bet is to do the same. =) -
Since you got it for free, couldn't you just, y'know, install it and give it a whirl?

DayZ lagging with good computer? HELP!
Grimey Rick replied to whincup123 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Buy a better graphics card. That lag you're experiencing when you zoom in has nothing to do with latency, that's all your GPU. I used to get that from time to time even with two GTX 580s in SLI. Don't get it anymore since upgrading to GTX 780 Ti cards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_HD_5000_Series -
Wow.

Wow, this again? Any game that isn't turn-based is twitch. There are varying degrees of twitch, which I've said umpteen times in this thread. Quake and Unreal Tournament are extremely twitch-based. Counter-Strike is very much twitch-based, as well. StarCraft and League of Legends are twitch-based games. Even TETRIS is a twitch-based game. Any game that requires any amount of quick reaction is classified as twitch, even if it's once every ten minutes when you finally flank your opponent in a tactical shooter. There are times when people slowly move their reticle over a camping opponent, but just as many encounters take place in close-quarters combat where every movement of the mouse and button pressed on the keyboard is crucial. Final Fantasy VII is not twitch. Hearthstone is not twitch. DayZ is still twitch-based, whether or not it's to the same level as other games.

For a laptop, it's not bad. =) You'll be able to play most newer games on Ultra settings and see upwards of 30 frames per second. I am not a fan of gaming on a laptop as you could get a much better value for the same money going with a desktop, but rest assured you'll be fine running current generation titles nonetheless.

Welcome to December!

Swapping/adding an SSD to a laptop is just a matter of a very small screwdriver (Torx T6, I think?) and about five minutes of your time. (;

Toss a SSD into it and you're laughing.

I looted a kitted Mosin from a guy that I had downed and noticed that the ammo in his gun had a "comma" written on it while in his gun. Normally you don't see the amount of ammo left in a gun that isn't in a magazine/clip. It kept firing, and firing, and firing. And the Morphine I mentioned could be used infinitely. It didn't have a quantity written on it, but it was "Ruined" and somehow kept working. :3

Yeah... 2/10
