I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...

Agreed -- giving characters a randomly selected skill would greatly increase the value of one's life. -
Non kos is as much of a thrill as kos

That's more or less what I meant. I don't make a habit of killing people who pose no threat to me. I was referring to those with the means of defending themselves. =) -

Neither is not killing on sight. Meeting new people can be fun, killing random people can be fun. If I want a thrill I'll go get on my Hayabusa. -
We've already given him recommendations on his path for upgrading. Getting back to that, his video card is absolute trash. His processor isn't in need of upgrading as badly as his video card. Comparing the GT 545 to a GTX 460 (released in 2010), it still gets slapped silly. Comparing his i3-2120 to an i5-2500K (which still handles itself very well), he will see only marginal improvements unless he goes for a processor with HT. Check this. I'd still recommend getting an actual video card.

SSDs are worth it for any program that has to load things. Wait, that's every program. So yeah, they're worth it.

My wife's is the same age as mine, as is our son's. Theirs are Corsair and mine are OCZ. I also have one in my laptop that's probably a year old by now. Their life expectancy is 100,000+ hours... HDDs have moving parts, and are subject to potential mechanical failures from the resulting wear and tear. The storage medium itself (magnetic platter) does not essentially degrade from read and write operations. According to a study performed by Carnegie Mellon University for both consumer and enterprise-grade HDDs, their average failure rate is 6 years, and life expectancy is 9–11 years.[116] Leading SSDs have overtaken hard disks for reliability,[85] however the risk of a sudden, catastrophic data loss can be lower for mechanical disks.[89] Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive For the random writes, a 64GB SSD has 500,000 blocks of 128k. Assuming a lifespan of 100,000 write cycles per block, you get a total of 50 billion writes for the disk, minus 10% for wear leveling give 45 billion usable writes. Divide that by the number of days in 5 years and I get 25 million per day. For the sequential writes, I allowed 90,000 usable write cycles of the whole disk (again allowing 10% for wear leveling). Dividing 5 years (which happens to be just over 43000 hours) by 90,000, and you get just over 29 minutes per cycle. For the Cheetah comparison, I divided 300GB by 171MBps and again got 29 minutes per cycle. Source: http://maxschireson.com/2011/04/21/debunking-ssd-lifespan-and-random-write-performance-concerns/

This idea is pretty bad unless they come up with a queue system to put you into a server with a number of players set by the user. But in that case, they could just do as they're doing now and select their own server... No dice, yo.

I've been running two Vertex 3s in RAID 0 for three years straight... they still bench at ~1GB/s read/write on ATTO:

He's talking about logging back into the server and having a duplicate avatar still there.

I shot my wife when we were on our way to Berezino from NEAF. She was bitching at me for not scooping the cat litter. I let her go for about five minutes before I lit her up with my M4. Ah, DayZ. Our therapy. <3

Hehe, yep. Honestly, I think I'm more of an EVGA fanboy, though. If EVGA delved into AMD cards, I'd probably be rockin' two R9 290Xs right now. EDIT: 1337th post!
-
This is a solid card: HIS R9 280X I'd definitely go AMD over Nvidia, though. The only reason I've stuck with Nvidia over the years is because I'm a fanboy and they generally run cooler/quieter. Not to mention that Nvidia usually has the fastest GPU on the market. But as far as the cost:performance ratio, AMD wins most of the time. Nvidia charges more because they can.

Because video game T-Shirts, Hoodies, Checked Shirts, Tactical Shirts To restore weapons from "Badly Damaged" or "Damaged" condition to "Worn" condition Currently, melee weapons are more or less broken. But the normal order would be: Firefighter Axe, Splitting Axe/Farming Hoe/Pitchfork, then everything else. Picking up anything other than what I listed is generally not worth it Airfields/strips, Military Bases/Camps, large towns/cities (Berezino, Svetlojarsk, Elektrozavodsk, Chernogorsk, Chapaevsk, etc) Yup... not quite sure how either fixes a broken limb, but y'know, DayZ is all about selective realism
-
That can be fixed be removing the item in question and re-equipping it, or by logging out and then back in. It's a glitch involving food. If you select "Eat" or "Eat All" when food is still on the ground and not in your inventory, it'll cause this issue.

Watch this video. Profit.

I completely drained a guy's blood earlier with blood bags. Does that make me a bandit? =(

Wow, they removed trees from chernarus.

Here's DayZ on max settings for comparison: -
DayZ is a paradox game - Random thoughts

Have you played Breaking Point? Aside from the dorky looking animations (thanks to ARMA 3) the game is awesome. DayZ looks better, but functionally I'd take Breaking Point any day (thus far). They've done more with a fraction of the funding (if they even receive any). #excessiveuseofbrackets -

Yeah, they could be, but this isn't the mod anymore. This is its own product. Stupid, glitchy, clunky zombies are not acceptable in this game. During the alpha, fine, but I'm willing to bet $100 they don't get much better even after release. Breaking Point is a prime example which I already mentioned. They tried to do some zombie hordes and failed miserably on a newer, more polished version of RV. I won't rest until we bully the developers into giving us zombies à la State of Decay! -
Can we get a verification code when making new accounts on the forums?

These bots get pretty annoying, and I imagine it'd make the moderators' jobs a lot easier. -
You start the game with these things called fists, and if you punch a slow moving zombie in the head it'll fall to the ground. Keep punching its head while it's down, and when it stands back up... yup, you guessed it! Punch it in the head again. Rinse and repeat until zombie dies. It'll take one to maybe ten punches to the head to kill a zombie. ~*So cray!*~

Grimey Rick replied to ZombieHeadHunterALPHA's topic in General Discussion
No, everything is stored in the hive. Unfortunate coincidence would be my guess. -
