    Where is everyone?

I've been using an MP-133 with pistol grip and a scoped Blaze. It's mostly been close quarters combat -- I'm really like the shotgun lately. :3

    Character Reset

Yep. When the particular server you're connecting to is unable to load your character for whatever reason, it gives you that message and spawns you anew. If the central hive happens to do a backup (which it does every few minutes IIRC) then you're stuck with that character. That's why it's a good idea to GTFO and connect to a new server ASAP. YMMV LOL ILU FKR

    Character Reset

Whenever I get this (the issue has been around since December 2013) I quickly disconnect and immediately connect to another server. Nine times out of ten it restores your character, but if you hang around too long (we're talking thirty seconds or more) then odds are the hive has already overwritten your character with the fresh spawn.

    Where is everyone?

I don't know about you, but I've killed at least twenty people yesterday and today at Veresnik. Fun fact: At least half of them were racist.

How is the AKM in 58?

Thanks for the tip on playing every game ever made containing guns ever.

Is it time for single player mode yet?

Three minutes is a long time! DayZ loads for me in about 15 seconds. (: P.S. I can ALT-TAB during the loading screens. #5960x

I haven't seen any infected in a month.

The Compass to Map Ratio: ._.

Mine are working fine; just picked up a "worn" and "pristine" compass in the fire station to test them both. I'm standing in tent city at NWAF pointing towards Bashnya and both are reading north in my hands and on my toolbar.

I actually helped this one, hah. My good deed for the year.

    Private vs. Public Servers

You can set them up like that, yes. As a player, I'm a fan of private servers. Since they were introduced, I don't see the appeal of playing on a public server.

Will we EVER see DayZ get to this level of gruesome?

While I agree that DayZ can become quite dull with so little to do, the PVP in this game—desync aside—is amazing. I came back yesterday after a month-long hiatus and was immediately freaking out after being fired at from some range with an SKS. Good times in Kamyshovo.

    New 3PP Camera

Sorry, I have to chime in here. In close quarters, this is EXACTLY why people prefer to play 3PP--it's so much easier to figure out where your opponent is, and exactly when to engage him. I don't understand how you figure you have to "be sticking around the wall somewhat" to corner peek in 3PP. That's entirely false. I don't give a flying fuck what mode people play; let the lesser players engage in their ridiculous, over-the-shoulder PvP. However, when these same players defend 3PP's current state of "[im]balance", I have to add my two pennies. IT'S NOT BALANCED. IT'S NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE. In my short and sweet three hour DayZ session on a random 3PP server yesterday (which is the basis for my commentary in this thread), I geared up and headed to Veresnik. I looted the area, and decided to hang around for a bit to see if anything developed while I was there. I situated myself in the newly enterable (yay for new words!) guard shack and waited. After maybe five minutes, I heard several sets of footsteps outside of the fence. "Awesome," I thought. As would be expected, the blue gate creaked open followed swiftly by the door to the guard house. I COULD SEE EXACTLY WHERE THIS GUY WAS, AND PICKED THE PERFECT TIME TO LAY WASTE TOO HIM WITH MY MP-133. He literally had zero chance. His friend waited for a good ten minutes before trying his luck. BOOM. Same fate. I looted their corpses and moved on. Now, had that been on a 1PP server, I would've had to have worked a lot harder and taken more risks for that situation to have ended in the same way. I would've had to have physically exposed myself to attain information pertaining to their location and risk being picked off in so doing. Not the case thanks to MY COMPLETE AND TOTAL CONTROL OF THE SITUATION DUE TO MY MAGICAL ABILITY TO SEE AROUND CORNERS UN-FUCKING-SOLICITED. Cheers! EDIT: three cheers for Android's auto-correct

    New 3PP Camera

This thread piqued my interest, and I just finished a three hour DayZ session on a Public 3PP server. I don't normally play 3PP, so I wasn't aware that they were changing the camera. After using it for a few hours, here are my thoughts: It's really difficult to successfully navigate indoors in 3PP.After a few skirmishes with other players that normally would've been very straight forward, I quickly became confused by the constant switching of camera angles—however, that's just an issue pertaining to the learning curve of change.I experienced numerous wonky camera glitches when trying to interact with items on the floor/ground and on ledges/furniture—I had to use 1PP in these situations. It's still very easy to see over ledges and around corners. I thought the entire point of this change was to eliminate these glaring balance issues?I noticed that I could only look up somewhere in the neighborhood of 70º—why aren't I able to look a full 90º anymore? (Excuse my ignorance, I haven't played DayZ in a while...)All in all, I personally don't see the point in the changes made to the camera; I've always been against 3PP in the Standalone, but to be honest, I preferred it the way it was. If development wants to change the camera, that's fine, but shouldn't they have a goal in so doing? If their goal was balancing the game by eliminating corner/ledge peeking, they blundered immensely. I can't think of any other reason to change the camera angles. Adding to that, the new retic[u]le looks ridiculous—why do we even have one in 3PP view?

    New 3PP Camera

*crawls out from underneath his 1PP rock* What, they changed the 3PP camera and it's causing anarchy on the forums with the lesser players? *crawls back underneath his 1PP rock*

    EVR Storms in Chernarus

I'd be fine with this eventually becoming a mod for the Standalone, but I'd rather it be omitted from the final release. I rather enjoyed it in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Epoch, but personally, I feel that the Standalone would be better off without it.
  20. Let me start by saying I've run Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit since it was released. I briefly tried Windows 8, realized how horrible it was, and quickly went back to Windows 7. When Windows 8.1 was released, I tried that, didn't like it (even though it was leaps and bounds better than Windows 8), and once again went back to Windows 7. So, today, I decided to format the ol' C: drive for shits 'n' giggles. I'd heard about the Windows 10 trial that's been out for quite a while now and decided to fire it up (since apparently I already have two free upgrades to Windows 10 from my copies of Windows 7 and 8). I must say, I am quite impressed. Not only does it take less than half (I think?) amount of space to install as Windows 7, it's much more responsive, fluid, and sexy. I'm not a huge fan of all of the bells and whistles, mind, but for the most part, I like it. I also loved not having to install anything from a flash drive or disc! No chipset drivers, LAN drivers, nothing! Just straight-out-of-the-metaphorical-box goodness! Obviously, my next move is to install Steam. Within seconds I had Steam installed (because I'm a computer hacker) and after another few minutes I had the ~9GB worth of DayZ goodness downloaded and ready to rock. I didn't edit any launch parameters or configuration files; I wanted to jump right in. ...and I was amazed... With everything on maximum, the game was buttery-smooth from the get go. I had logged out near Berezino, and experienced virtually no lag. It was there, but much less so than on Windows 7. Thinking it might just be a fluke, I restarted the computer, launched DayZ again, and loaded back into Berezino. Same thing! I then decided to run to Elektrozavodsk to see how it handled a denser city. After fifteen or so minutes of sprinting with a drink or two along the way, I arrived. Very similar experience to Berezino -- a slight amount of lag, but much less so than Windows 7. (Keep in mind my Windows 7 install had been completely tweaked for DayZ; I even had my processor un-parked along with a plethora of other modifications.) Anyway, TL;DR, I'm very, very impressed with Windows 10 thus far. Granted, I'm only a few hours into my experience, but it feels very solid. I'm very much looking forward to receiving my free upgrade in a few weeks. DayZ seem to run great even before tweaks, and it feels so smooth -- is that the upgraded DirectX? Happy killing-on-sight everyone.
  21. S3V3N, how exactly are Skype users ruining your fun? Because you don't like that they can communicate without you being able to hear them? Seriously? If you feel it's unfair to engage groups by yourself due to third party communication software, then... don't engage groups. After 1600 hours of playing the Standalone, I can't think of one time where third party communication software upset me. Even organized clans using TeamSpeak run around like chickens with their heads cut off when they're under fire. It's painfully easy to kill multiple players from a hidden vantage point. The one in a hundred people who want some type of "fix" for this is enough of a reason to potentially ruin the game for the other ninety-nine? I think not.

TIL that DayZ runs much smoother on Windows 10.

Or perhaps Windows 10 makes much better use of my processor (i7-5960X) that Windows 7 had a few known issues with. My Windows 7 install was only a few months old; it's doubtful several months of use would've made such a big difference after a format. Besides, DayZ is installed on a RAID 0 SSD array of two 1TB Samsung drives.

I've bumped into the most dangerous bandit group in chernarus [2:36]

That was painful to watch... They looked like they were just goofing around, you had a gun, and they were trying to melee you... You could have smoked at least two of them with one magazine in that situation, hah.

Lt Dan you ain't got no legs.

    Epic death, 9.5/10!
  25. You guys really need to stop bringing this up. It's not that big of a deal. It's never going to be fixed. My wife sits right beside me during our gaming sessions. Skype is on every tablet and smart phone on the planet, and failing that, you could still use a telephone (crazy, right?) to call a buddy. Just accept it and move on. Pretend that those who are using third party VoIP programs are communicating via radio, and that they're speaking too low for you to hear.
