Zombies are weak, they need to be stronger...
Grimey Rick replied to battlerhd's topic in General Discussion
I like how other people assuming that the Z in DayZ stands for zombies is somehow a far-fetched concept to you. There is such a difference between the two. People don't make mistakes though, right? -
I'm gonna go ahead and let you reread the topic's name. Let me know what you figure out. I'm a fairly easy marker.

A more appropriate name for this topic would've been, "Getting sniped is a n00b's technique."

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Grimey Rick replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Even if that were true, the fact that there's always a hacker on every full server running around in Berezino, I think his statement speaks volumes about the cheating scene in DayZ. I'm not like most people who seem to post on the forums. When I play DayZ, I only play to kill other people. Surviving is mind-numbingly easy, so I try to make it harder by forcing confrontations in hotspots. Every time I'm in Berezino on a full servers, there is infinite SKS and M4A1 fire. Even if BattlEye was forcing scripters to make new hacks every week, they're still making new hacks every week that trump last week's system, so how does that make any difference to the legitimate players? It doesn't. You really need to stop defending BattlEye in every post you make; BattlEye proved to me that they can at least admit when they erroneously ban someone, which I wholeheartedly appreciate, but beyond that, their system isn't really helping. -

What is the rarest item you have ever found in DayZ?
Grimey Rick replied to trimpampano's topic in General Discussion
I once thought I found my self-respect, but then a ladder yanked it from beneath my feet. -
I've seen that happen when someone has died or logged out in the middle of the circle. Even after the person is gone, the zombies tend to still stand around swinging at the air where the person was last seen. Sometimes they don't, though.

Elektrozavodsk and Chernogorsk/Balota are still fairly active on full servers. I've yet to meet a h4x0r there since Berezino became the new battlefield.
-
In all fairness, most of the vehicles in Chernarus would probably be diesel. A diesel engine is pretty simple. It shouldn't be "rare as fuck" to get one going. Unless DayZ is set twenty some years after the apocalypse, most of them should turn over just fine, even after a few years. With fuel stations exploding left, right and center around Chernarus, diesel shouldn't be much of a problem either.

Is this a video game forum, or a lesson in etiquette? If all of you guys are as butthurt in real life as you act online, I feel bad for your friends. You'd never survive on a construction site, hah.

I don't think the OP would actually want the guy to go off himself irl, leaving behind a devastated family. The phrase has evolved well beyond its literal definition. It's closer to "go fuck yourself". Of course there are people who find it offensive, but then again, there are people who find it offensive when told to "sod off", too. As for the topic at hand, you can easily find a Mosin or SKS and some bullets usually minutes within spawning. There is really no viable excuse to dupe.

I was scratching my balls in a skirmish beside Cernaya Polana. The second I got my hand down to a good depth to really attack that itch, the dude charges me. I have disinfectant wipes next to my computer because I have OCD when it comes to germs, so by the time I yanked my hand out (greatly disturbing the boys and not successfully taking care of the itch, I might add), grabbed a disinfectant wipe, wiped off my hands, threw the wipe into the trash can near my desk, got my hands back on my keyboard and attempted to defend myself, I was dead. I think Professor Xavier killed me. He waited for the exact moment that he knew I was weak. Bastard X-Men.

Dayz Standalone is lacking a huge core piece in my eyes.
Grimey Rick replied to Zanders's topic in General Discussion
I think people are just making up their own definitions of sandbox at this point. Open world games are open world games to me, "sandbox" or otherwise. The only true "sandbox" game to the definition of the term "sandbox" is Minecraft. You can literally do whatever you want to the environment in which you play. I'm not going to debate semantics, hehe. All I know is that the first month I had GTA V, I played it exactly like I played DayZ. I didn't do one mission, I just ran around trolling people. They're both open world games. They can both be played however you want. Most games these days are. Long beaten to death is the era of games that tell you to go to x location and kill y person to loot z item. They're already starting to dwindle out. People want fun games that can be immediately delved into without hours and hours of gameplay. -

With your definition, any game could be a sandbox game. For the sake of amusing yourself, you could just run around murdering people in GTA V and never complete one mission. DayZ is just that; a game like GTA V with no missions (and a touch of survival physics thrown in). Sandbox games are open world games. It's just a tackier, cliché name given to non-AAA games. "Sandbox" became popular when Minecraft hit the world. There was absolutely no point to it until they added the Ender Dragon; you just built whatever you wanted and did whatever you could to keep yourself occupied. "An open world is a type of video game level design where a player can roam freely through a virtual world and is given considerable freedom in choosing how or when to approach objectives.[1] The term free roam is also used, as is sandbox and free-roaming.[2][3] "Open world" and "free-roaming" suggest the absence of artificial barriers,[4] in contrast to the invisible walls and loading screens that are common in linear level designs. An "open world" game does not necessarily imply a true sandbox. In a true "sandbox", the player has tools to modify the world themselves and create how they play.[5] Generally open world games still enforce some restrictions in the game environment, either due to absolute technical limitations or in-game limitations (such as locked areas) imposed by a game's linearity." Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_world Where are my tools in DayZ to modify the world, rawrrr! Minecraft has an endgame: kill the Ender Dragon. You don't have to, but it's at least there. GTA (we'll use V as an example) Online is one of the most played games of all time. There are side missions, you can build up your real estate, collect cars, etc., etc., etc. Assassin's Creed's sandbox-ness (new word!) is limited to single-player, yes, but it's still a sandbox title. You can run around and do whatever you want, or you can just finish the story. -

I'm playing devil's advocate here, but: Grand Theft Auto games are sandbox titles that all have objectives and an end-gameAssassin's Creed games are sandbox titles that all have objectives and an end-gameMinecraft is a sandbox title that has objectives and an end-game DayZ is just something you play until you've survived for a long time and get bored of killing people. There's not much else to keep one playing. That includes the Mod. "Making your own content" is fun for a while, but once you've held people up with a banana, played hide-and-seek with zombies, made a trail of food from one town to another, handcuffed people to fill their bags full of loot and then release them, etc., it starts getting old, unfortunately. -

I want a 40 man raid of the catacombs beneath Devil's Castle with the end boss of the dungeon being a giant zombified version of Rocket. I want his left hand to say Reddit, his right hand to say Twitter, and his arse to say DayZ Forums. His special move would be to throw staircases that, upon landing, shoot razor sharp ladders at the raid. His health bar should have 40,000,000 hit points. When he's brought to 5% health, he'll blast off and leave the project, er, dungeon. THAT, to me, is a badass endgame. -
You never hear soda cans, people eating/drinking, people splitting ammo, people reloading? Really? It's just other people around the server doing normal post-apocalyptic stuff. Unfortunately, the audio is not entirely squelched before reaching us from time to time.

Used to be Magnum/Mosin. Now it's Shotgun/Mosin. Automatic weapons are for baddies.

Grimey Rick replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
Half true, you said it wasn't and was possible. So you're a hypocrite. I'm willing to bet solely based on what happened to me that there are far, far more people banned in error than you seem to think. If he actually said that (which I doubt), then perhaps this will give them incentive to delve deeper in the future. I'm willing to bet you don't play either very often. What difference does it make what engine you're on? Anti-cheats are supposed to detect and ban actual cheaters. No engine is perfect, that's why we have software like BattlEye, PunkBuster, VAC, etc. Oh, and yeah, I wasn't cheating. Has that been mentioned yet? Did you see that part where the BattlEye official reinstated that? How does your boot taste, broski? ;) -
I remember you. I think you amused me from time to time. Well done.

No worries, I'm just glad you guys took the time to look into it further. My apologies for not answering your message earlier, they don't allow cell phones in cranes on this job site. Also, I appreciate the support from those of you who don't immediately jump on bandwagons. I know my opinion on this topic has definitely changed. Cheers.
