Anyone else experiencing a frozen screen, but still able to hear your character move around? CTRL ALT DEL necessary when it occurs.
Grimey Rick replied to Grimey Rick's topic in Troubleshooting
It's definitely not your card (well, not definitely), because I have run DayZ on both of my graphics cards and the issue persists. It's pretty infrequent, but it happens, and I was just curious if anyone else was experiencing is as I haven't played since 0.55. -
It wasn't an axe swing, it was a bullet from range that turned your face into mush. Bullets make that sound when they hit you but are shot far enough away for you to be unable to hear the initial bang. It's one of my favorite parts about this game. EDIT: Also, for what it's worth, since I've returned to DayZ me and my friends have been relentlessly hunting people in a wolf pack of three. There's something wrong with us. Our characters have all lost our minds and posses a "burn the world" disposition. I sniped probably two dozen people from Balota to Novodmitrovsk over the past few days. Both of my buddies roll with AK variants while I prefer a Blaze/Winchester/Mosin and a sidearm. I'm not claiming it was me, but hey, you never know. <3

This just in, reviews are just fancy opinions. More at six.

Cool story, bro. I would've killed him for sport, poaching or not. I would then proceed to take my pleasure with his corpse. After I recovered, I'd eat him. TL;DR: You're much more kind than me.

What you want most in .60? (Choose two. Discuss why.)

Optimization would be nice. -

You win. I tried playing DayZ for the first time in two months after going on an H1Z1 Battle Royale stint, and I almost died of a spontaneous brain aneurysm.

When can we expect gun shots to be heard reliably

I've been placed on moderator queue, so this probably won't make it through. (Rhymin' like a boss!) I saw it on Steam.

Yep, this is an inherent problem with player-hosted servers. There aren't any "official" servers besides the handful that are experimental. I've been curious as to how they're going to address this.

Did I do something wrong? Sniping in the Airfield
Grimey Rick replied to FrigginTommyNoble's topic in General Discussion
You put the idea into my head, BioCutie—I came to the realization that it might be a good idea to try. (; -
People complained that it was too close to spawn locations, which was kind of narrow minded. The most fun I've ever had playing DayZ were the battles for the military jails in northeast airfield. Killing people who hid under the hangars was fun, too.

Not only would I have killed him, I would have released my manly paste inside of his corpse. Just sayin'. -
I dunno, doesn't seem right. It has more of a server hopper's feel to it. Helicopters tend to spawn a shitload of red dots, iron sights, and ACOGs, as is indicative in that picture. The balance of magazines looks consistent with that suspicion, too. If I were duping, I'd personally only duplicate the double magazines—I wouldn't bother with anything less than that. Why bother duping anything less than the 60 round magazines for your M4A1 and AUGs? As far as food, there isn't much there aside from the...pumpkin, is it? (I don't do a lot of farming, so I can't remember if that's what it is or not.) Very easy to acquire, if that's the case.

Then perhaps give the person who landed the killing blow an extension on being able to loot you. I just really dislike how we're able to run back to our corpse after death. I personally never do - it defeats the entire purpose of the game for me.
-
I've always felt that your corpse should remain for an hour, however, it should not be lootable by its owner. That would give those of us involved in the gun fights time to reap the rewards of our efforts, and prevent people from running back to their corpse to reclaim all of their stuff (which really shouldn't even be allowed; when you're dead, you're dead. You're supposed to start a new character, not be playing Call of Duty.)

The ghillie suit should definitely require much more effort and materials to make. That much I wholeheartedly agree with. Hopefully they also fix the glitches with the ghillie suit too — then I might actually use it again. As far as netting itself is concerned, it should spawn in boats, houses along the shore (fishermen would have netting in their sheds, etc.), cars along the shore, among other places. Tying it exclusively to boats, and exclusively again to dynamic events seems pretty ridiculous.

The walking speed used to be much faster and a smoother transition from running when aiming down the sights — I fought tooth and nail when they implemented the currently extremely slow walking speed. But whatever, I'm sure it'll change half a dozen times before it's finalized. I be patient, mon.

Common indeed is netting in real life, however, used in DayZ to make the infamous ghillie suit which is considered to be relatively overpowered, thus the limit.

So is there any workaround for the client performance nowdays?
Grimey Rick replied to haxborn's topic in General Discussion
DayZ will never run as smooth as we'd like until its release date, but I agree with Tatanko — the game is definitely playable. DayZ is just not up to the standards of most triple A titles that are on the market. Why? Because they're finished products. They've been optimized, and future optimizations are still top priority to development. Everyone seems to fall into the ~30 to 80 frame-rate range. Seems strange, right? Not coincidental at all? ;] Personally, I run DayZ at maximum settings, V-Sync enabled, and 200% rendering resolution at 2160p (on a Samsung UE590 monitor). I net the same frame-rate with these settings as I do when I have everything set at its bare-minimum, V-Sync disabled and 50% rendering resolution at 800x600. I drop to 30 frames per second in and around large towns/cities, and I peak at around 100 frames per second. Just be patient, and await the coming of beta. :3 EDIT: My system specs are in my profile. -
Hah — does it make any sense for you to nag me for nagging? ;] And for the record, I'm not nagging. I'm just making a suggestion to improve people's quality of life for the time being. Rage on, if that's what turns your crank — I certainly don't mind. I just feel the need to chime in every fifteenth thread or so pertaining to server-hopping. Forgive me my shortcomings, eh?
-
It definitely needs to be addressed — I wasn't disputing that — and I have faith that eventually it will be. You're correct! I do have 2,000+ posts, and at this point in time, my suggestion is indeed to "suck it up". This debate has been raging for the better part of two years now. Nothing in this thread is ground-breaking; as a matter of fact, every suggestion made in this thread has been brought up before in any number of threads on this very forum. If you felt like taking the time to sift through some of my posts (and could stomach the cynicism therein), you'd see that I've made many suggestions myself. Anyhow, currently, the system isn't going to change anytime soon, so my initial advice still stands — stick to the Private servers until they finally address the issue of server-hopping. Yep, this was their original idea — do you remember when they originally implemented the five minute timer? If you connected to a server and left before you'd played there for thirty minutes, you'd receive a five minute "penalty" upon disconnecting. If you immediately connected to another server, you'd be met with a countdown. If you used the five minutes to grab a coffee, upon returning, your "penalty" would've subsided and you'd be free to connect to a server immediately. For me, this idea worked. I'd like to see the penalty increase as you and many others have suggested for every server you hop; your suggestion of an incremental five minutes is a solid one — I don't care who the hopper is, if they're met with a additive penalty every time they change servers, they're more than likely going to hang up the server-hopping boots and play as the rest of us do. Of course, there'll be those who stick to their guns, and end up only playing for two minutes out of every twenty, but hey, you can't change everyone's mind.
