Grimey Rick replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion

Has the increased difficulty had eny effect on KoS frequency?
Grimey Rick replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Increased difficulty is only going to increase KoS behavior. Think about it. -
I've been reading thread after thread of people whining about lack of loot, zed "difficulty", and other pointless quips. While annoying, these people have helped pave the DayZ highway just as much as the rest of us. A lot of forum regulars have been along for the long haul since last December. We've watched DayZ grow through the good, the bad, and the fucking horridly ugly. We are the people who actually read the disclaimer before we bought the game. WE GET IT. But this new wave of players doesn't. They watch videos of early DayZ on YouTube, pick up a copy of the game, and expect to be balls-deep in PvP action within minutes. While we shouldn't pander to this demographic of player, their complaints aren't invalid. Currently, 0.55 is, in my opinion, the worst patch to date. It's worse than memory leaks, being stuck in walls, being flung from ladders, worse than everything we've experienced so far. It's BORING. I haven't played in a week because of it. Am I going to menstruate everywhere? No. Am I quitting DayZ? HELL no! But for those people enjoying this patch, I'm glad. Different strokes for different folks. Just try to understand where the other side of the fence stands, instead of slinging insults and "disclaimer disclaimers" at them. This game is an alpha, and it's going to change. That's a given. What DayZ is right now is without a doubt a temporary build. DayZ would not have sold 2,000 copies, let alone 2,000,000 copies if this was what it looked like on alpha release. Period. From December 2013 to October 2014 I logged over 1,400 hours. From October to present, I've only logged 150 hours. I'm an experienced DayZ veteran who'd support it with my own money if I had to. There's a reason servers are emptying, and it's not voodoo. EDIT: typos everywhere. posted from my phone, too lazy to edit

Let's not confuse hard with boring, guys. To clarify, I'm not hating on DayZ at all, I love the game. That much is obvious. My main gripe is the attitude that's preventing itself in this thread, as I pretty much knew it would, I just wanted to get it off my chest. Back to my original point, DayZ didn't get harder. At all. You can still flee from zeds without even being hit. They can't catch you. You can lock them in rooms and continue looting or you can just hold W and survive. As far as loot, it's just more rare in coastal towns. Surviving isn't hard as long as you're making your way towards north west airfield. You won't die. So yeah, don't confuse complaints of the game being boring as people thinking it's hard. Because hard, DayZ is not. Feelings of self-gratification because you can run away from a zed and you know enough about Chernarus to head inland doesn't make you a good player on a plateau above everyone else. To me, it just means you're more patient than I am, that's all. <3 I want the game to be brutally fucking difficult, but for reasons that test your ability as a player, not your patience. Maybe a mixture of both, but not STRICTLY patience. I want zombies to flat out kill me in ONE SCRATCH, just like ANY zed flick EVER. I want more loot to spawn, but in lesser quantities. Maybe you find 10% of a can of dog food that you know will make you sick, but you have no choice but to eat it. I want to find one to three .22 rounds in various houses instead of going three hours of constant searching before I find an ENTIRE BOX OF FIFTY. Things like that. Zeds are currently easy. They can't hit you unless you're new, so how can they be a threat? Survival is easy too, you just need to sit down and play for hours at a time. That, to me, is boring. Sorry that I feel differently than all of you badasses. Haha.

I was referring to the Standalone. I've played the Mod since its initial release, but this was posted in the DayZ STANDALONE forum. Right?

Why do the majority of players i encounter suck?
Grimey Rick replied to drjuanitor's topic in General Discussion
THIS thread again?! Really? -
You probably had the script set to toggle the W key, e.g: toggle W every 0.25 seconds which would still make you run.

they killed DayZ for me and many others
Grimey Rick replied to Axezeroone's topic in General Discussion
The game is no harder, it's just more boring. How to survive, you ask? 1. Find an apple tree 2. Pick apples for an hour 3. Eat them until healthy 4. Log out until 0.56 -
Me and my crew mustn't be very fun for those attending the events we crash. :(

My computer wins, but it still runs DayZ like shit. I'm sure it'll run DayZ like shit at release, too. #pessimist4life

While I respect and appreciate the essence of a gathering like this in a video game, this type of event is infinitely more fun to troll than attend and participate in. +1 OP

the reaction to mass amounts of zeds worry me
Grimey Rick replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
This game needs to be brutal. DayZ talked so much shit about how authentic and difficult it would be, it'd be a shame for it not to live up to its own hype. Personally, I lost interest in H1Z1 after less than ten hours. The game feels too cartoon-ish -- they can add as many zombies as they want, it's always going to feel like a State of Decay ripoff to me. DayZ feels more visceral, thus appealing to me. Once everything is ironed out and there are massive amounts of zombies, I'll be a happy camper. ♥ -
FOV changes should only be able to be made at the login screen where you get a preview of your avatar. The fact that it's still possible to do it in-game on the fly in about two seconds (when you get good at it) is borderline mind-blowing. Turning a mid-range scope like the PU into a LRS with the aid of an in-game setting is enough proof that this needs to be fixed. /thread

I haven't been banned after almost 1,600 hours of using a run script. /thread

This hasn't been mentioned a dozen times before or anything.

I met a crazy Newfoundlander who lives a couple of hours from me through DayZ. He's a psycho, but hilarious; he's just as likely to shoot you in a fire fight and laugh about it as he is the people trying to kill you. I also met DeatHTaX through DayZ, but he's a huge fruitcake. ;)

Tell them to skip lunch twice this week. If you can't afford $40 for a game with potentially infinite replay value, something is seriously wrong.

to the guy i killed at Bolota ATC with 5 pelican cases full of ammo and grenades:
Grimey Rick replied to anarky321's topic in General Discussion
What kind of fucking loser buys gear in a survival game? Wait, H1Z1 does it too. Buying ANYTHING [especially] in an ALPHA version of a video game in which you could lose all you bought with one improperly mounted ladder or a stray bullet is probably the biggest waste of money you could think of. Heating your home by burning $5 bills is less of a waste. -
Have you ever run into the only other guy on the server?
Grimey Rick replied to IgnobleBasterd's topic in General Discussion
Plays multi-player game which is extremely heavily based on player interaction. Runs into only other person on server. Freaks out and makes forum post. 10/10 -
Standalone updated enough?(since Sep '14)
Grimey Rick replied to AtotehZ's topic in General Discussion
It's an alpha. Dean with it. -
Oh yes, indeed. After being flamed for three days by 90% of the forum and borderline harassing the BattlEye admin, it was finally looked into. (I'm definitely glad that it was looked into, but it's by no means a great system.) BattlEye almost cost me $90, and I've never even thought about cheating. My heart goes out to the plethora of false-positive bans that haven't been caught.

I ran around with a character that had an irregular heartbeat for a full week without suffering from a heart attack. Thanks to my good buddy for hitting me with a defibrillator whist I was eating! (I ended up drowning that character, fully geared. Wife spawned in Chernogorsk while I was way up north. Saved a lot of nagging.)

"Friendly" Players who KOS behind your back.
Grimey Rick replied to HappyXceed (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
What you're describing wasn't KOS. -
How exactly do you know someone duped their gun? I always find this type of post amusing.
