  1. This happens to me on a regular basis. The only "fix" I've found is to log out of the game entirely and then get back in, but it's certainly annoying.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113860

    Can anyone advise what the following means? Engine: Servers with incompatible version marked in the server browserI've seen the "X" in the server list and I "presume" that what's referred to, but I'm not sure. Also, how do you find one of the "experimental" servers Rocket has mentioned from time to time?

    Character keeps resetting!

    Oddly enough that happened to me earlier. I clicked on Play but it took me to the Server List and my History was blank so I had no idea what server I was on before. So I picked one at random and was spawned on the beach with noob gear. Well, after heaving a large sigh (I know, I know, it's Alpha) I proceeded to start again. I got into the game about an hour when I had to quit. When I came back and logged in I noticed that my splash screen showed my previous character and, sure enough, I spawned in as my previous character with all my gear. I've been very careful to only join servers that were up to date. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

    different server list?

    One thing I found is that if you go to Details and then click Connect from that screen it may NOT take you to the server your friends are on. Instead, just get out of the Details screen and double click on the listing for the server you want.
  5. I can't consistently get my server list to populate ... YES, I've done a search, and yes I've clicked on Internet and yes I've hit refresh and yes I've bumped the filter to 300 and I've dumped the game and restarted many times but it doesn't work consistently. And I've never been able to get it to keep a favorite. Sometimes it shows my friends and sometimes not and frequently it just refused to show anything on any of the tabs. Any suggestions would be appreciated, any snarks will be returned and death threats reciprocated :rolleyes: Thanks, Joe

    Flashlight... broken or ??

    Hit the space bar (or perhaps left control then space) and it will shine where you're looking.
  7. There would be one good reason to keep them ... for hunting. In truth a skilled hunter can track animals for quite a distance, this can be used to simulate that so that you don't have to hope you run into an animal. I've used it for that purpose for months now and it works quite well, it's not 100% effective but most of the time it works well. It has to be daytime and if there are a lot of zombies around you can forget it, but in the woods it's a good technique. As for the zombies, I rarely if ever even pay attention to it for that purpose. However, it also shows up for vehicles so I guess you could say you're "tracking" the tire tracks :)
  8. OR ... you can do as most of us did when we started out ... and many of us still do ... tighten up the bootlaces and start running. :D DayZ ... the Marathon simulator.Joe
  9. I'm with Seddrik on this one. I've been a Medic for a long time in the game and would like to see the role of a medic increased but I don't want to have to download Greys Anatomy to my Ipad in order to enjoy Day Z. Perhaps we could add things like a stethoscope BP Cuff and actual thermometer and then, from the results, get an idea of what the disease is and what the possible treatment might be. Let's not get so involved in this that we have to build a freaking lab with a functional MRI and blood testing unit. Make it more involved but make it more in line with the duties and capabilities of a field medic. It's a game ... it's supposed to be FUN. And please ... no pooping in the Day Z sandbox ... {shudder}
  10. I've PMed you ... add me on Steam at [TMW] Joe Shaw and we'll see what we can do.Joe
  11. The Trusted Mentors of the Wasteland On the Beach with a flashlight and no clue? Or maybe you've bought a vowel or two but still can't figure out the puzzle? Don't know where to turn for advice or assistance? Don't know who to trust? That's where we come in. The Trusted Mentors of the Wasteland are all part of the Trusted Medics of the Wasteland established by Doctor Wasteland back in May. Since that time we have the longest running thread on the Day Z website and dozens of players have verified that we are indeed trustworthy and have said so in writing in more than 7,000 posts. Doctor Wasteland started his campaign to take back the wasteland and make it at least a bit more civilized. He wanted a game where it was not always going to be dog eat dog and shoot first every time. So he started providing medical support to anyone who asked. In the process he found some friends and found that they were willing to trust him. Soon he had others following his lead and currently we have over 100 Medics who have all been vetted by other players and validated as trustworthy. But it's not enough to fix broken bones and hand out blood bags to the injured. We want to help in other ways as well. We want to help you get better at Day Z. Here's our offer, go to our website at: http://tmwdayz.com/: You'll have to register, but then go to the Training Request Form in the Training Requests forum ... and fill out a quick and easy questionnaire. One of our mentors will get in touch with you and set an appointment to meet and, well, mentor you in Day Z. It can be a quick hour long session on how to drive vehicles (not helos, although we have a special class for that too) or a two day, eight hour course that will cover everything you might want to know. You can also just join our Teamspeak server at: ts.dayzmedics.com ... to ask questions. If you see someone with a green graduation cap, that's a Mentor, but pretty much any TMW member can point you in the right direction. All of our mentors are currently Trusted Medics of the Wasteland and experienced in Day Z. We can help you if you've never gotten your feet wet or if you've been ashore a few times but can't quite get over that Day Z hump. We're not a clan per se and we won't recruit you to join us. In fact we require that our Mentors all be experienced before they can be entrusted with your safety. We do this because we enjoy the game and we want to help others enjoy it as well. The training agenda is up to you and the events happen as they happen, the outcome is never certain and both you and the Mentor may die but in the process you may learn something too. That's Day Z ... and that's the fun of it. [TMW] Joe Shaw

    Thomas the game can be pretty frustrating if you're not familiar with ARMA2 ... and even if you are there are some goofy things with the mod that can take some time to get used to. 16. Thanks Kelly we enjoyed it as well, you were a lot of fun and we look forward to going through additional material with you. As to the game, everyone has to make their own decisions about the methods they use, we just provide some guidance on how to play the game and let everyone make those decisions after that. Joe

    Coaching a bambi

    Oh don't get me wrong Sula, ANY help is good help, if you show a new player how to pick up a bigger pack that's great. And perhaps I got too ... enthusiastic ... In my choice of words :D. But I do believe strongly in effective training and I like to think we've done a good job with ours and that fila02 is on the right track with his.

    Coaching a bambi

    Two points .... and please don't take any of the following as any sort of criticism of the efforts of filas02 or anyone who chooses to help other players. We have worked long and hard to get our training program to its current form and perhaps our experience can help others to achieve their goal. 1. While it's true that there is a lot of value in learning the game on your own, it's equally true that players can get discouraged and quit the game entirely out of frustration with the admittedly quirky Day Z system. While some might argue that these players are no great loss, I'd argue that anything that diminishes the player pool is not good for any of us. If we want this franchise to succeed we need to do whatever we can to increase the number of players and their enjoyment of the game. That's why the Trusted Mentors of the Wasteland began and why we continue to train new players in what my partner, Absolut_Zero, likes to call "Chernarus 101." Since then we've added courses on being a TMW Medic and a TMW Bodyguard. We'll be adding advanced courses on PVP, Night Ops, Vehicles and other areas of interest. 2. It takes more than a desire to help people. We have a private, passworded server that allows us to provide a more consistent and repeatable training experience as well as an established and detailed step by step syllabus that ensures that all students are learning the same information. It's critical that your trainers be professional and helpful. I've been a trainer for most of my career and we ensure that all Mentors are not only experienced Day Z players but are also the type of person who can work with any student and provide a positive and enjoyable experience. There's a big difference between knowing the game and being able to impart that lesson to the student. While any training in Day Z is subject to the unexpected, the training must be designed to minimize those unexpected occurrences in favor of the lesson to be learned. That takes planning and foresight and organization. You have to think through all of the possibilities and devise alternative strategies that will allow you to continue the training. I hope that filas02 and others will continue in their efforts to make this game more accessible to all gamers and, in the process, increase their own enjoyment of the game.
