    Where do you find .308?

I found 2x 20 round boxes. One in a deerstand, and one in a checkpoint.
  2. The amount of damage zeds do to clothes and gear is unreasonable, how for example does a zombie hitting me with its hands ruin my revolver? I suggest remove zombie damage to gear entirely and reduce their damage to clothes to about 1/5 of what it is at the moment. To offset that, they need to be more lethal to the player, at the moment the zombies are pretty much harmless apart from the annoying gear destruction.
  3. Its true that its not particularly challenging at the moment, the zombies seem about as lethal as gnats and there is more food spawning than I know what to do with. But this is basically a balance issue, and balance is something for beta in the main, at the moment they're still focused on bugs and features.

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

Yeah no. The main problem is that the dayz engine is a fork of the arma engine, which is an immensely complex (and not terribly efficient) combined arms simulator + its somewhat archaic, being fundamentally just incremental upgrades of the original Operation flashpoint engine from back in 2001.

What is it that makes the fps so bad? Engine? DX9?

Its plain as day that the performance problems are hard baked into the engine, they have existed though all of the Arma games, the fact that its in alpha does not mean the the performance will be magically fixed once the game goes gold. Its also well known that the performance bottleneck is very much CPU rather than any other component. I doubt very much that this will change significantly at any point in the game's development, so we just have to suck it up and get used to it.

Player spawn is the cause of all evil

The problem with random spawns over the whole map is that people will just suicide repeatedly until they spawn near a military base. Its a lovely idea but I think in reality it would end up making the game worse. At least at the moment if you want are more "role play" type experience you can just head west.

    DayZ SA Security Leak.

Assuming the screenshots of the source code are genuine then its C++ and you're not going to be decompiling C++ into anything that resembles the original source code. Assembly code, yes, pseudo C code that's practically unreadable, maybe. Even if you could decompile into something resembling the original C++ it would take a ****ton of work to make it understandable and thus exploitable. The original source code on the other hand is perfectly readable and comes with handy comments explaining everything, practically handing exploits to the hackers, so yes, its a huge deal if the source code is out.
  9. Well, I've been fortunate enough to not have seen a definite hack yet. Its entirely possible I have come across cheaters but that the cheat wasn't obvious e.g. esp, but I've definitely not seen anything that could be nothing other than a hack. This said, I tend to stick to mid pop hc servers, and I can't remember the last time I saw the coast or Berezino... so perhaps I'm just not in the right place to see these hacks. Still, whatever hacking there is its clearly not as bad as the mod, where you could be turned into a rabbit or teleported across the map, or everyone on the server killed instantly, or have your inventory items changed, or have some guy spawning in vehicles and gear etc. In the face of that, a little aim botting or short distance blinking is weak sauce.
  10. Believe it or not its actually a great way to play, I played a ton of hours on white-listed private hive servers for dayz mod and I can honestly say that the lack of hoppers plus the more cohesive community made for a very compelling experience.
  11. You mean complete noobs to the game? Look, the game is a piece of piss, you can get fully gear and survive until judgement day within a few hours of spawning. PvP is the only challenge. Trust me, you would be bored ridged of PvE within 1 evening.

    Is DayZ TOO Easy?

ITZ ALPHA Seriously. THe game isn't balanced yet, things are then way they are because this is the state of the build, not because dean thinks its good this way. Just wait for at least late beta before judging how easy/hard the game is.

7 of us wiped out by a single teleporter.

Yes, there are hacks, we know, old news. It will be fixed, scripts aren't even turned off yet because they are still building the game, so just chill and wait.

    Hacker caught teleporting

See my post above, the game isn't finished, they haven't hardended it vs hacking yet, scripts are still turned on in the engine, they wont be in the final build. Chill.

    22-30 FPS with GTX 780?

For this engine its absolutely normal, the best way to boost your FPS is to overclock your CPU, GPU is almost irrelevant past a mid level card because of the CPU bottlenecking..

    Hacker caught teleporting

Meh. so much meh. Yes there are hacks, yes they will be dealt with. SA isn't fully hardened yet, scripts are still enabled in the engine so script injection still works to some extent. this will not be the case in the release build. Also i'm sure the holes in the code that allow the esp hacks will be fixed sooner or later. In game like dayz, in alpha, you have to expect hacks. By all means report it, but save the whining until the full retail build.
  18. Bicycles will be the first vehicle in, so you shouldn't have to wait too long.

    Tips for better situational awareness?

Well to start with you will just get it wrong, not much to be done about that, it takes experience to know the best way to approach each particular hotspot. That said, some general rules: 1) Stay in cover: if you're going cross country then don't just run up the middle of a road, get in the trees or at least follow a hedge line. If you're in a town stay off the main street, go between or behind buildings. And stay off the skyline: no standing on the top of a hill, or silhouetted against the sea. 2) Assess the area: Are there likely to be people around? where will they come from if they are travelling through? where would the be if they wanted overwatch of the area? 3) Detect: bodies, lack of zombies in a town, open doors. 4) Listen: get those headphones out, you need to catch the faint sound of distant gunfire, or of footsteps near by. Hear them before they see you. 5) Look: map freelook to middle mouse or something easily reachable, and use it, look around you, always keep an eye behind you and on the skyline.

Been killed twice by hackers in the last 48 hours

Yes standalone is supposed to be much more robust vs hacking, but guess what: this isn't standalone, its the alpha for the standalone. Scripts haven't even been disabled in the engine yet. Just got to wait for it to mature bro.

    How do I see a player's name?

Uh, I think the only problem with not being able to ID someone for realism purposes is that its as unrealistic as it is realistic. humans have evolved to be able to recognise another human faces very efficiently and under adverse conditions, e.g. poor lighting or at range, and this isn't something you can add into the game unless all player models become unique and photo realistic. So I think there should be some compromise, perhaps not a persons name, but there ought to be some way identify friends beyond eyeballing their gear at range,
  22. To be honest i would like to see DayZ take realism to the extreme, if only because it hasn't been done before. I'm a hardened gamer who has played around 500 games, at this point I welcome anything new or innovative, no matter how bad an idea game designers may think it is. The only thing I think they have to be careful of is keeping the whole experience cohesive, I don't want to see some aspects highly realistic and others unrealistic.

    LongRangeScope VS Acog VS Iron

I love the PU scope, its good right up to the mosin's effective range and you can use it at relatively close quarters too, i.e. 10m+, anything less than that and you can just no scope. The only thing the long range scope is really good for is spotting as there are no bino's, other than that I don't like using it because its a disadvantage for short range fire fights.

    My Charakter was deleted

that can happen, or maybe you got killed during the logout timer. The old adage springs to mind, "don't get attached to your gear in Dayz, because you're going to lose it". That goes double for a buggy early alpha. I'd be surprised if this isn't already logged as a bug, you could search for it, I've known about it since the alpha launched and I last saw it happen to a friend of mine about 2 weeks ago.

    ESP hacks are annoying

Plenty of explanations, main one would be he wasn't alone, you were surrounded. I remember a situation I got into where I was a sniper/spotter on the west side of a town and we had two guys in the town and another sniper/spotter on the east side. So two guys pass right behind the east sniper and I spot them, I take shots and pin them down, they were both hiding behind trees not moving. I tell the east sniper whats going on and he sneaks up behind them and pops them both in the head under the cover of my shots... they never knew he was there, from their perspective I was hacking and shooting them through the trees. How do I know they didn't know he was there? because the second guy didn't move an inch when his friend got shot, even though the east sniper was less than 10m behind him standing out in the open with a clear shot for over a minute whilst i was talking him round to the guy's position. Edit: moral for the story: sometimes "ESP" is just you've been outflanked and never even knew it. Then of course sometimes its hacks, but I have some faith that dean et al are keeping on top of that, its certainly a lot less of an up hill struggle now they have the new server architecture, and once they turn off scripts completely we should see a big drop in hack, most are script injection at the moment.
