Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

Well if its a question of simulating realistic limitations then what the hell is wrong with doing it the same way nearly every other game does? with expanding crosshairs, i.e. when you move your aim the crosshairs widen and the base accuracy of the gun decreases, the faster you move the wider the crosshair, and thats easy enough to add modifiers for more unwieldly weapons like machine guns and sniper rifles. Just don't fuck with the actual mouse movement of the reticule. Simple.

    Combat Logging -,-

No its not, Dean has stated that they will introduce mechanics to ameliorate the situation.

    Aggro From 1Km Out

Yeah at the moment the zed are a bit like homing missiles, you can run through a maze and they will still find you, best thing to do is just out distance them as you are faster, or go upstairs in a building, that seems to fool them. And yeah, for zombies they are rather too alert in terms of seeing you, but I guess thats deliberate at the moment as there are so few zombies, if they were as dopey as they ought to be then they would be zero threat, as it is they're not exactly a problem to deal with.

How Many People Were Killed By You?

In standalone? I'm not counting but i guess its at least 20. Hell I killed 3 yesterday, but they did attack me first.

Has Anyone Ever Gotten Revenge On A Player?

Yeah all the time, if you play with a clan on a private hive server you get to know the other clans on that hive pretty well, and that plays out as a constant tit for tat of revenge with fights over vehicles and raiding bases. Speaking about the mod here obviously, in SA currently its hard to know who you're killing or being killed by as you cant get names from bodies and there are no kill messages.

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

+1 for no mouse acceleration or smoothing. Ultimately its a question of user friendliness and convenience. Messing with the mouse input results in an unstable and artificial learning curve, which will be at odds with skills learned from other first person games. All I ask for is to be able to adjust the sensitivity from the menu within reasonable ranges (its currently not reasonably, the lowest setting is still very fast if you have a high DPI mouse), and for there to be no acceleration. Thats all I ask.

Any piece of clothing you associate with bandits?

    1) Motorcycle Helmet. Never met anyone wearing one who didn't try to kill me or my companions. 2) Payday Mask. Anything else is circumstancial.

    Is less zombies actually more?

At the moment there are very few zombies, and to be frank I like it, it makes the scavenge/pvp game much easier. However it pretty much destroys the survival game, especially as there is no hunting/cooking implemented. So its just a question of what you want out of the the game as to whether its a good thing or not. I am looking forward to more zombies however, I would like to experience zombies being a real threat, lets face it, at the moment there is no reason why the army wouldn't of just shot all the zombies, they are very easy to deal with, the only reason players don't shoot zombies as a rule is that it lets other players know where you are, other players are the only real threat at the moment. Imagine Cherno with 500+ zombies in it...

    First tries and getting bored

yeah its hard for a new player, but the key is to get off the south coast as soon as you can, its worth a run at electro or Cherno after freshly spawning, just to get some basic kit, but after that get out. There is plenty of loot if you look in the right places, you just need to move further away from the spawning areas. If you want easy mode, then log into a server with few players and loot some out of the way cities like Zelenogorsk or Berezino. I have played the standalone for about 50 hours now and I have yet to die of hunger or thirst, you just need to know where the resources are.

    hunting

Dean has said they are roadmapped, but he hasn't given an indication of how soon. Almost certainly within the year though I would say, probably within 6 months.
  11. Well Pilgrim, yeah, the game isn't content complete yet so there isn't as much to do, this is well known. As for KoS, it sort of depends on the circumstances, at an air field or military base expect to be shot on sight, in a quiet town in the middle of nowhere its actually not uncommon to be able to strike up a converstaion if you're willing to risk it.

    New player with some questions

Well I don't know the answers to all your questions but some of them: 4) hardcore and regular servers are on different hives, that means you will have separate characters for these. 6) Just dont eat it, I think it can make you sick. 5) can kill them with 1 blow from an axe, otherwise avoid melee. 3) Really no reason to starve once you get the hang of where the loot spawns, you can open cans with some things like screwdrivers and axes, but really this isn't an issue once you're more familiar with the map. 2) most servers restart on a 4 hour schedule or sooner, if the server you're on seems to have no loot then its probably due a restart, so just hang around, or head inland where most of the loot is untouched. Its always been a quirk of the spawning tables that items tend to group, so you maybe be looking for X for ages then come across 3 within a few minutes. Also certain loot items spawn only is specific places, you can look forever for ammo and never find it if you're not looking in the right places, look in the right places and you will have more than you could need.
  13. The only issue i've noticed is snow artifacts on trees with AF on, are you refering to something else?

The benefits of being a "Hero"

Well to be frank I agree with Dayz in its current state. Thats not to say that mechanics can't be introduced to change that however, Origins does a pretty good job.
  15. I assume that 60+fps is a ceiling rather than an average. Either that or you are running some config settings absurdly low. I have the same CPU and a HD7870, and I average about 40FPS. Peronally I wouldn't consider reducing the view distance to be a viable option, its a huge map, if you can only see just in front of your nose then you are missing out on the unique immersion supplied by a 3km+ draw distance. Edit: just a tip for anyone reading, turn off ambient occlusion, and every time you log in make sure it is still off! it has a habit of turning itself back on, and it takes off about 10fps for me. Edit: OP, its your CPU thats giving you poor performance, AMD CPUs just don't cut it campared to Intel, and due to terrrible CPU optimisation Dayz is heavily bottlenecked by CPU.
  16. It is, but its fair. On the plus side all of these exploits (combat logging, server hopping etc) will be addressed at somepoint (i.e. prevented by new mechanics), so it doesn't matter so much. KoS and killing new spawns I have no problem with, I think thats personal choice.

    no more alphas for me

I think its best to be very selective of taking part in any alphas/early access, for the most part you will be getting shit, and the worst of it is you will rob yourself of the enjoyment of the full release game, as you will have gotten tired of it in alpha. I only buy into an alpha/early access game if I know exactly what i'm getting and I know that I won't spoil myself for the full game. Dayz is one of the few games that meets these criteria for me, mainly because i've already played through the mod in alpha so know what to expect.

    Dead man's swiches

Any sort of fatal booby traps or mines would ruin the gameplay and should not be included in the game, the potential for trolling in Dayz is already high, no need to make it worse.
  19. Personally i'd rather get shot than combat log. Either play the game or don't, combat logging is not part of the game.

    Night time hater

Dayz/Arma has a full simulation of a lunar month, so how bright it is at night will depend on the moon phase, this also affects tides but thats not really important on the Chernarus map. If there is no moon you have two choices, use a light of some description and be aware that you are taking a huge risk (I wouldn't do it with a geared up character, but its a good way to get loot for a new character), or you can find another server. If there is a moon then either use the flashlight sparingly, i.e. flash it round a room for a second to spot loot then turn it back off, or better just dont use a light at all, the main reason lights are so dangerous is that the light doeesn't clip properly with buildings, i.e. your light will shine straight through walls and be visible from far away, basically if anyone else is in the area and looks in your direction they will see your light even if you are in a room with no windows - and that often means your death.
  21. Yeah, as others have said so long as you are new to the game you will have that fear, and those are some of the best times i've had playing the game solo, once you learn the map and can gear up in a few hours that fear will go and just turn into risk calculation and occasional thrill. Enjoy it while it lasts, and my advice, keep playing solo while it lasts, when it goes look for a group to play with, that adds whole new dynamics to the gameplay.

    Dissapointed new player

There is plenty of loot if you know where to look and when; when being preferably after a server restart, or as close as your can get, and where being either places that people don't generally go or the high value areas like the air fields, military bases, and cities. Being a veteran of the mod and having about 50hrs in the SA game, I can get mostly kitted out in an evening. being a new player however you will have to take higher risk strategies like looting Cherno or Electro, and you will need to study the dayzdatabase map to learn the building type that spawn what you need, and where they are. This all said, the current state of Dayz is not representitive of the final product, you say you know its in alpha but do you really understand what they means? the game is at least a year away from beta and only has about 20% of the content in place and working in terms of mechanics beyond the basics. THere is also a lot of bug fixing and balancing still to be done, essentially the game is by definition not playable, that is basically what alpha means. However thats not to say you cant have fun with it, so long as you take it as you find it and dont have any expectations. As for the videos that got you excited for dayz, well most of them, certainly those featureing vehicles and aircraft, are from the mod which is fairly mature at this point, the standalone game which you are playing doesn't have most of that content yet. Also bear in mind these videos you are seeing are highlights, they show you a few minutes of play from several hours or days of actual playing, truth is Dayz isn't about constant action, if thats what you're after then you will spend most of your time running naked to Balota, Cherno, or Electro and either getting shot or shooting people... this isn't a particularly fullfilling way to play the game and you will get bored of it quickly. there is a huge map to explore and learn to survive in, learn navigation and orientering skills, learn tactics and learn the thrill of looting a high risk area knowing that the character you've invested dozens of game hours in can die in an instant from and unseen sniper or a run in with another surviver. Final tip: its much better to play with others, playing alone will get you so far but past the first 40-50 hours of gameplay you will need to group up.
  23. Bullshit, very very few games will use more than about 2gb of ram, they have to be compatible with 32bit systems so they are designed to use no more than about that. OP, try using the lower quality textures, should use less vram.

Will Pistol damage tables be fixed in SA?

They need to fix the damage tables for sure, guess we'll have to wait an see.

    15rnd. 1866 Pellets [CLOSED]

Winchester sucks, it just doesn't fire fast enough or do enough damage to be reliable in pvp combat, Enfield is still the better starter weapon. As for killing zed, well if you're using a gun then you're probably doing it wrong. a) run away B) sneak c) get the axe out if you have to d) use a gun if you're cornered by lots of zed. D should happen pretty rarely.
