    how did i randomly die?

yeah there are a ton of way to die from terrain glitches, especially in buildings, on stairs/ladders, and clipping with other players. One time i got stuck on a rock, then catapulted into the air and dies on impact, another time I desynced of a staircase, another time I died when a friend tried to walk past me in a door way. For you, it sounds to me like you got shot.
  2. I agree its a dangerous trend, and people have already been burned by it with some games, however I think the vast majority of the DayZ player base knew what they were buying into and the devs took reasonable steps with big warning notices to make sure prospective buyers knew the deal. Plus, in its current state it is playable, sure its missing a ton of content but it is at least playable, which is more than can be said for some other early access games.

What will make you play the alpha again?

To be fair the zombies have never been more than a minor obstacle once you learned how to handle them, they're simply not a main gameplay feature. Could they be made a main gameplay feature? maybe. I'd actually be quite interested to see a build of DayZ where looting a city or a mil base is practically impossible without working in a team due the to zombies, that would have a real impact on the gameplay, who knows you might even see survivors teaming up for the fat loots.

What will make you play the alpha again?

    1) Some sort of permanent storage, like the mod's tents. 2) lots more zombies and all loot locations spawning (the amount of loot is fine, I just want it spread out over all the possible locations). 3) Vehicles.
  5. I call bullshit on that. I mean sure, technically there is nowhere on the map where you are immune to attack but that's simply not needed. I played a ton of dayz mod with the logout timer and never once got killed logging out, if you even have half a brain its incredibly easy to find somewhere that is "safe" for at least 30 seconds.

    SLI?

Its the base arma engine, it bottlenecks on CPU.

    Bambi's Knocking Out Geared Players.

Punched out a server hopper as he was loading in at the berezino factory this morning, took his hunting backpack and m4, left him unconscious on the ground naked. No remorse.

    No zombies, no loot

I would take fisheye to mean distortion, like the image is being stretched from two points

    Losing interest by design.

Dayz isn't for everyone, many people simply wont enjoy it, maybe you're one of those. If that's so, that's a shame, thanks for trying the game, goodbye.

Do they use different ammo? they should use different ammo right?

    Why do we KoS?

And how fun would the game be if no one ever shot at you?
  12. deepfried

    Why do we KoS?

I think the main reason for KoS is that there is very little reason not to. Here are the pros and cons of KoS: Pros: 1) Much safer, a dead player can't shoot you. 2) You get their gear, well, what isn't ruined anyway. 3) Shooting people in game is fun, thats why FPS games are so popular. 4) You don't have to compete with them for loot in the area. Cons: 1) You could have a chat. (though 9/10 people do their talking with bullets, so huge risk) 2) The other person might be able to help you, saline etc.. (only relevant if you need help). So, the reasons for shooting someone greatly outweigh the reasons for not shooting them.

    Cheating you've encountered

Could jut be he glitched into the terrain somehow, not necessarily a hack. Also there is a bug where people can appear to be in the ground (without actually being in the ground), I play with a small group and occasionally one of us will see one of the others in the ground but the others see him as normal, usually happens in buildings with a raised floor.

    Cheating you've encountered

I've seen no cheating in 50hrs so far. Plenty of douche-bags, but no cheating.

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

I think the point is that currently in dayz its pretty much impossible, because the negative acceleration means that moving your mouse the same distance will end up with your crosshair being in a different place depending on the speed of the movement, so unlike other games where you just have to learn how far to move you mouse to get a 180, in dayz you have to control the speed too, and basically its not possible to get consistent results as you can't control the speed and distance of the movement with enough precision to hit a target, nevermind a small target. Also the 180 turn scenario is just an exaggerated example, the acceleration issue also affects turning smaller amounts as well, making quick target acquisition difficult in any scenario.

    KoS is acceptable for me.

I love the huge detailed map, the exploration, survival and the looting. But all of that is rendered meaningless if there is no PvP to give it an edge. Like playing poker for no money. there has to be risk for there to be reward, no risk and its just boring boring boring. Zombies are no threat and survivial is a piece of cake, only PvP makes this game worth playing in its current state, if you believe otherwise then I can only guess that you're either a new player or... I don't know what.

    New Spawnlocations

I think spawning should be random, putting you within 100m of any town, village, or city on the map. People would abuse that by suicide until they get a spawn they like? well then, set a timer, if you die within a certain time of your last spawn (15 minutes?) , then you next spawn is chosen from a subset of less desirable locations, keep on suicide and the spawns get worse. That will solve the loot problem on the coast and will bring the whole map into play much more than it currently is, solving two problems at a stroke by my reckoning.

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

Well, most people would call that superhuman, certainly far beyond the pail of the every day. Though its true people often underestimate what can be done irl compared to computer games with regards shooting, and in some ways shooting irl is easier than in a game, just as with any other simulation e.g. driving or flying, easier in real life because you have unrestricted head movement, proper controls, feedback from the vehicle, inertial forces etc.. so in many ways there are good arguments for making the HID as synaesthetic as possible to make up shortcomings of the simulation in other respects, even if that ignores factors like encumbrance or the weight of the gun... I bet that guy shooting the domino wasn't doing it with a 40lb pack and a SAW. Make no mistake i'm fully in favour of 1:1 over acceleration, if only because I'm a counterstrike player and like many other counterstrike players I have developed my skills with very a specific mouse setup (10"/360) and like to be able to use the same setup in other games so that I don't have to "re-learn" my skill, nor by the same token degrade my pre-existing counterstrike skill by adapting to a different setup.

    KoS is acceptable for me.

We should all be thankful for KoS, its the only thing that makes this game interesting. Take away the threat of other human players and Dayz is a pretty shitty game.

Raw Mouse Input Is Crucial To Immersion

Look there are clearly pros and cons with 1:1 movement translation, on the pro side it allows for a high skill ceiling and a better human interface with more direct translation of your will into the game world (which is after all the goal of a human interface device), on the con side it allows for almost superhuman feats of precision shooting, like spinning 180 and nailing a headshot at the flick of your wrist. However much more important in my opinion are the unrealistic disadvantages of acceleration, which forces a sort of spastic malady on the player, where you can't accurately control your ability to turn or look at speed without overshooting your target and having to swing back. Of the two, I choose the lesser evil. I choose 1:1.

Guns - What Should Be Done?

Fair enough, I didn't read though enough of the thread to catch on that .22lr was being referred to.

Guns - What Should Be Done?

Who says we're talking about rim fire ammo? You think all .22 ammo is rim fire? .223 Remington can be use interchangeably with 5.56 so the casing is almost identical, as you can see in my image above.

Guns - What Should Be Done?

What are you on about? you realise 5.56mm is the metric version of .223 right? its the same damn bullet.

    Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?

KoS is a legitimate gameplay behaviour, server hopping is not. End of story.
